Collision of Instant Client with other Clients (by registry key ORACLE)

Hello,
i'm trying to use Instant Client Basic Lite and Instant Client sqlplus on my Windows XP to connect to Oracle server.
Client files and sqlplus files are in the same directory. I also have installed client 8, 9i 10g and database xe on my PC.
If I try to start sqlplus I receive following errors:
c:\a\-e>sqlplus ntpl/[email protected]:1522/xe
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
But if I rename regitry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE to HKLM\SOFTWARE\-ORACLE
it works fine. It seems there is a collision with registry values.
I have already tried to set:
set nls_lang=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8
but it haven't helped.
Could you help me please?
Thank you very much
Viktor

As far as I know, Instant Client does not use the Windows registry at all.
Is there a chance that you accidentally use the other client?
Which access method do you use? sqlplus? Some API? Which API?
Are both clients in your PATH? In which order?
It's really difficult to sort out problems with multiple Oracle clients on
one Windows machine. I had to resort to Process Monitor in one instance
to figure out what was really going on.

  • Instant Client to connect to Oracle 8i

Does anyone know where I can download a version of Instant Client that is compatible with Oracle Server 8i (8.1.7.0). The only download I can find is for 11.1 and that's not compatible.
All I'm trying to do is setup some OLE DB data sources in SSIS to pull Oracle 8i data into sql server 2005, but getting a little bit more than I bargined for...
    Thanks

    Here
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/winsoft.html
you can find Instant Client 10.1 and 10.2 for Windows.
These can be used to access Oracle 8.1.7.4, but they do not include an OLE DB provider.
If you want to use OLE DB to access an Oracle 8 server, you'll have to install the regular client (10.2 optimally).

  • SharePoint 2013 Published links to Office client applications - Registry key for MySite is missing on client

    Hello,
how is the Registry Key HKCU\Software\AppDataLow\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Portal
for "PersonalSiteURL" supposed to be set in SharePoint 2013 / Office 2013?
Or is there another way to tell the Office Clients where to look for the user profile / published links? In SharePoint 2007 there was a button "Set as default MySite" which creates the Registry key as far as I know.
How is Office 2013 supposed to get this Information?
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    Hi Dennis ,
    Thank you for your posting!
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get the Published links using  Office 2013 on client.
Yes, you can get the Published links using Office 2013 on client. For achieving your demand, you need to have the 15.0/Common/Portal registry key setup with a PersonalSiteURL defined . For detailed information,
you can refer to the article and note that everything is 15 instead of 12 now:

  • Instant Client with full client (Solaris)

    Hi,
Does the Instant Client come with the full install of Oracle on Solaris, or if there is an option to? Any resources explaining this; I have had a good search on the net but cannot find anything.
I would like to know when libociei.so would be provided, whether this is ever available with the full client. I know this comes with the Instant Client but wasn't sure if it would ever come with the full client/database, or if there was an alternative file that should used.
    Thanks.

    You are a bit vague.
What do you mean by "Oracle"? Client, Server, ...?
And what Solaris do you have?
You can install Instant Client with the Client installation CD, see
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15692/install_overview.htm#i1106622
    or
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15699/install_overview.htm#i1106622
depending on your taste of Solaris.
Alternatively, cou can download Instant Client from http://www.oracle.com.
libociei.so is part of the Instant Client installation, and of Instant Client only.
It is a replacement for the message files and other resource files that come with other Oracle products.
    Does that answer your question?

  • Unix/Linux: How can other OS-users use the Instant Client?

    Hello,
I have a question concerning the practical use of Instant Client. I'm new to this topic and followed the installation guide for Instant Client and installed the software from CD as "oracle"-user belonging to "oinstall"-group.
    My question:
How can I now grant access to the installed libraries which belong "oracle:oinstall" with a completely different user, lets say "tsmith" who belongs only to OS-group "users" ?
What is the most recommended way to grant access to other users?
(in the documentation I found the following statement "the only user accounts that should belong to the oinstall group are the Oracle software owner accounts. For example, the oracle user"....that would mean, it is not recommended to put the user "tsmith" into the "oinstall" group, isn't it?)
Please tell me, how do you grant the access to Instant Client from other user accounts in daily life?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
    Regards
    FireFighter

Oracle tends to be as restrictive with access permissions to the installed software, which is good in principle, but often leads to problems and bugs.
I'd say that if Instant Client is the only Oracle software you have installed in this Oracle Home, you can safely loosen the permissions on this Oracle Home.
I'd change directories to 0755, normal files to 0644 and executable files (files that have executable permission for the owner) to 0755.

  • Is my PHP + Oracle9i + Instant client setup ok ?

    Hello
I have to developp a script in PHP for windows, using an Oracle 9i database.
    Here's my setup :
Windows 2003 Server R2 (all patches applied)
    PHP 5.2.0
    Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.1
    Instant client 10g 10.2.0.2-20060508
    Oracle9i was installed in C:\oracle\
Oracle Instant client extracted to C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
Here 's the PATH env variable (only oracle partis shown):
    C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;C:\dev\php5.2;C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
I deleted the "C:\oracle\ora92\bin" from PATH env variable in order to
the Instant client to be used instead of. Is this a good solution ? Since now I have no more oracle tools available in command line without specifing full path.
PHP is configured to use php_oci8.dll of course. No problem with that.
I tryied to activate PDO but get an error message :
When I run PHP from command line, same error message :
Warning: PHP Startup: Invalid library (maybe not a PHP library)
'php_pdo_oci8.dll' in Unknown on line 0
Maybe it's a bug in PHP, I m not the first complaining about that as far as I know.
My main question remains : Is my configuration the best way to do ? Is there a way not to loose oracle9/bin from PATH ?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks, now I understand better.
    What is "Oracle Runtime"?
Did you install Instant Client from the Oracle Client CD or did you download Instant Client from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html ?
Which version of Instant Client is this?
Can you show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file?

Apologies - thought it was a database to database connection that you were trying to create.
isql: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryThe readline library is in package readline-4.3-13 on RHEL4 and in readline-5.1-1.1 for RHEL5 on my servers (minor version number are of course dependent on the kernel version used).
This is also not an ODBC or Oracle issue. It seems that isql is using rlwrap or similar - this requires the readline library. And possibly LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be set too.

I don't understand your step 7 (the first step 7, actually).
What is that unixODBC-2.2.14-linux-x86-32.tar.gz, where did it come from, and why are you doing all that?
unixODBC should be installed after step 5.
I guess that that is the cause of your problem.
isql is not linked against readline at all on my RHEL 5 system.
Do you notice any improvement after removing the files from that tar.bz file?

  • Oracle instant client 10.2.0.4 to connect to oracle database 9.2

got message ORA-03134 when creating ODBC connection to database version 9.2. However, it was successful to connect to database versions 10g and up. Has anyone successfully connected to Oracle 9.2 by using the 10g instant client?

    Thanks.

I think this is nothing to do with ODBC, to clarify try to connect with sqlplus to same DB.
However, what is your exact Oracle client version?
Looks like there was a bug in 10g, and I think issue is fixed in patch to 10.1.0.3. Check @ 10g client vs 8i server (ORA-03134): news?

I have oracle instant client installed on C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2 and the environment variable for path set to C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2 on my windows VPS server. When I install PHP version 5.3.6 with the OCI8 extension it installs correctly. I run a php script with phpinfo(); and I see...
    "--with-pdo-oci=D:\php-sdk\oracle\instantclient10\sdk,shared" "--with-oci8=D:\php-sdk\oracle\instantclient10\sdk,shared" "--with-oci8-11g=D:\php-sdk\oracle\instantclient11\sdk,shared"
But no OCI8 extension info is listed. So that tells me it's not installed and I can't do any oci functions.
I don't have a D:\php-sdk\oracle\instantclient10\sdk directory on that server and I have no idea on how to change the default compiled directory. If I run the php.exe I get an error saying that it can't locate the oci.dll...
How do I get this instant client path fixed?
I am at the end of my rope so who ever answers this post. THANK YOU!!!

In the same directory as my application, I have these DLLs:
    oci.dll
    Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    orannzsbb11.dll
    oraociei11.dll
    OraOps11w.dll
Connecting to Oracle by using "standard" OracleConnection is fine, only when I try to access my Entity model do I recieve the error.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Hi Rolf,
It's works when you don't have a oracle.dataaccess.client settings(like to change oracle types).
At the end I had to install ODAC using Beta 2, because i am using mapping settings(oracle.dataaccess.client).
I am looking to test the new version 11.2.0.2.50, it's looks like have a XCopy version.
Let us know if you test the new version.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

  • Windows 7 64 Bit machine with Instant Client and 32Bit application

    Hello everybody,
the last days a tried to get a 32Bit application to run on a Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit machine ... unfortunately with no success. The application runs on XP Pro and Vista Pro 32 Bit machines against a 11g RDBMS for years. As a refenence we use SQLTools from sqltools.net. It has nearly the same behaviour like the application, because it is a 32 bit application too.
First thing was to install a 64 bit environement to verify if the connection is allright.
    - Downloaded instantclient-basic-windows.x64-11.2.0.2.0.zip an instantclient-sqlplus-windows.x64-11.2.0.2.0.zip
    - Unpacked both packages into C:\oracle so that they reside in C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2
    - Made a directory C:\oracle\tnsnames with tnsnames.ora in it, because the app uses it
    - Set the environement variables TNS_ADMIN to point to C:\oracle\tnsnames and added C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2 in front of the path variable
    - Restarted the machine
    - Opened a commnd shell and startet sqlplus user/password@sid
Everything was allright, I was able to connect to the database as expected
Second thing was to start SQLTools, but as I feard it quitted with an error message when trying to access oci.dll of the instant client.
So i decided to switch to a 32 bit environement as a third thing.
    - Downloaded instantclient-basiclite-nt-11.2.0.2.0.zip and instantclient-sqlplus-nt-11.2.0.2.0.zip
    - Deleted the old C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2
    - Unpacked both 32 bit packages into C:\oracle so that they reside in C:\oracle\instantclient_11_2
    - Didn't change anything in the environement, because nothing changed from the view of the system
    - Opened a commnd shell and startet sqlplus user/password@sid
But now I wasn't able to connect and got the following error
ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle Net admin error
SQLPlus was able to start now, but when trying to connect to the database I got the same error like when connecting with sqlplus.
Does anybopdy have an idea how to manage to get a 32 bit application to run on a Windows 7 64 Bit machine?
    Thanks in advance
    My packages:
    Windows 7 64 bit SP1
Oracle Instant Client basic lite 11.2.0.2.0
    SQLPlus 1.5 22D

Have you tried WOW64 ? I have not used this emulator for sqlplus but it works for other 32 bit applications.
