Color APEX charts based on query value returned?

Hi,
I appreciate any information regarding this topic. Do you know if there is a way to change the color of a column chart based on the value that is returned in SQL query? This specific type of query and chart only has one bar...so we don;t have to worry about multiple series of bars here.. For example,
select null link, FTE_NAME label, (SUM(INVOICeABLE_ALLOCATION) + SUM(SECOND_BILL_ALLOC)) value1
from FTE_VIEW
WHERE FTE_ID = :P9_ID
group by FTE_NAME
This might return an allocation of 2.5 for a specific person, where we only want people allocated to 1.0 so anything > 1.0 the chart color would turn red.
PS: There is a reason we are allowing them to enter values >1.0 by the way ;) if you are wondering..haha
Any ideas? I also looked up in the AnyChart knowledge base, but could not find any help there..
Kind Regards,

Hi,
Thanks for your help. I am not clear on whether I need to create the :P1_Colors item or not. If I choose Custom colors and then have my colors as #099E4A,#F00E19 can I reference :P1_COLORS in my SQL or do I have to create the item :P1_COLORS and use a statics list? Also I've playing with the SQL, I was able to get a return value using a CASE statement, but I had no lukc with the Decode...Here is what I tried IN SQLdeveloper but could not get it to work.
SELECT FTE_NAME, DECODE(SUM(ALLOCATION),SUM(ALLOCATION)<=1,'GREEN','RED') AS COLOR
FROM FTE_PRJK_VIEW
where id = :P9_ID AND FTE_PROJECT_STATUS = 'YES'
group by FTE_NAME
(Where i have Green and Red I would have the item :P1_COLORS = #099E4A,#F00E19, ETC..)
Was able to get this case statement to return a value in SQL Developer..but cannot get it to work in the chart...
select null link, FTE_NAME label,
CASE WHEN SUM(ALLOCATION)<1
THEN :P1_COLORS = '#099E4A'
else :P1_COLORS = '#F00E19'
END CASE value1
from FTE_PRJK_VIEW
where id = :P9_ID AND FTE_PROJECT_STATUS = 'YES'
group by FTE_NAME
Really Appreciate the help with this :)

• Color report rows based on a value in that row

I would like to Color report rows based on a value in that row.
For examplle with the "EMP" table:
I would like job=MANAGER to be red and job=CLERK to be green etc etc
The other example I found only had the option of one color either the highlight or the default color.
I am looking for a way to do multiple colors.

Hi,
In the row template, you can use #1#, #2#, etc to indicate where a field in the report needs to be output. This does not have to be plain text - ie, you can use it within style tags if you like.
So, take a query like:
SELECT EMPNO,
ENAME,
DEPTNO,
DECODE(DEPTNO, 10, 'green', 20, 'red', 30, 'cyan', 'white') BG_COLOUR
FROM EMPYou get columns 1=empno, 2=ename, 3=deptno and 4=bg_colour. In the row template, you can then do:
Before Rows setting (sets up the table):
<table>
<tr><td>ID</td><td>Name</td><td>Dept</td></tr>After Rows setting (closes the table):
</table>Row Template 1 (used for ALL rows):
<tr style="background-color:#4#;"><td>#1#</td><td>#2#</td><td>#3#</td></tr>Then, for every row, the colour that has been calculated using the DECODE function will be used in the style tag to colour the background for the entire row.
How you determine the colours is up to you. I've used DECODE here, but you could use a field on the DEPT table to hold this and use this in your SQL statement.

• Problems with SVG line charts based on PL/SQL returning SQL

Dear all - I wonder if anyone can tell me whether this problem is likely to be fixed at some point?
It relates to the fact that you can't get more than one series on a chart where the SQL is returned from PL/SQL.
It is a huge issue for us when trying to create complex, dynamic charts, which are simple enough in PL/SQL, but end up quite nightmarish in pure SQL.
Although we have implemented Maani SWF (Flash) charts as a workaround, users don't like them as there's no 'save as...' or copy+paste and they seem to print very badly indeed.
Here's part of a post from last May with more detail:
"If I take a really simple table like this:
CREATE TABLE "CHART_TEST"
( "X" DATE NOT NULL ENABLE,
"Y" NUMBER(5,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
CONSTRAINT "CHART_TEST_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("X") ENABLE
and populate it with:
X Y
2006-01-01T00:00:00 1
2006-02-01T00:00:00 2
2006-03-01T00:00:00 3
2006-04-01T00:00:00 4
2006-05-01T00:00:00 5
2006-06-01T00:00:00 6
2006-07-01T00:00:00 7
2006-08-01T00:00:00 8
2006-09-01T00:00:00 9
2006-10-01T00:00:00 10
I can create a chart with a single series using syntax something like:
begin
return 'select null link, x label, y value
from chart_test';
end;
and this works fine. However, if I add a second series:
begin
return 'select null link, x label, (y + 1) value
from chart_test';
end;
then the whole of the chart region blanks out.
There's an example at:
http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=15491:1"
Many thanks,
John.

On some, but not all SVG line charts, I had trouble when some values are ZERO.
Putting a CASE WHEN var = 0 then 0.05 ELSE var END in the select statement
fixed those situations.
I had missing lines when the number of data points in a series exceeded the default number of 15, and I did not set in the series configuration to a number equal to or higher that the number of data points in that series.
And I had one instance, where a couple missing lines reappeared when I exited
the browser and app completely and restarted the app.
All these comments apply to ver 1.6x and 2.0x

• UPDATE statement based on query and return multiple value

Hi everybody,
I have two tables: temp3 and temp
One of them (temp3) should be updated based on the query where clause (id and flag columns).

• Changing field text color and fill based on input value.

I am trying to create a field that can be red, yellow or green. In the end, what I need is a box that can be made red, yellow or green by the form user. My strategy is to use a validation script to change the field and text color based on the field input. So if you type "red", the text and field turn red, essentially making a red box. The field is named "GoalColor".
Am I headed in the right direction to get make this dynamic colored box?
This script works but you must type "red" into the field(including quotation marks). Any ideas on why the word red alone isn't triggering it?
var vcolor = this.getField("GoalColor").value;
if (vcolor == "red") {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.red;
} else {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.white;
I have also tried - works if you type 'red'
var vcolor = this.getField("GoalColor").value;
if (vcolor == 'red') {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.red;
} else {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.white;
and  - does not work
var vcolor = this.getField("GoalColor").value;
if ( vcolor == red ) {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.red;
} else {
this.getField('GoalColor').fillColor = color.white;
Thanks!

And you don't need to add the quotation marks in the text field. In fact, doing it will cause the script not to identify the word.

• How do I format based on the value of the @status attribute?

Example: I use the @status attribute to indicate that a step in a procedure is new or that a paragraph in a concept is new.
For review purposes, I want to format new text as green - preferably a green highlight, but green text will do.
Example: I use the @status attribute to indicate that a step in a procedure has been deleted or that a paragraph in a concept has been deleted.
For review purposes, I want to format new text as crossed out.
Can this be done? If so, where do I set up the formatting for attribute values?
Thanks in advance.
Marsha

Hi Marsha,
If you want the formatting to be "locked in," that is, driven by the EDD, then Lynne's advice is the way to go. If instead it would be sufficient to temporarily color the desired elements as a format override, you could use the AXCM plugin:
http://www.weststreetconsulting.com/WSC_AXCM.htm
This plugin can do any nature of coloring, strikethrough, etc. based on attribute values and other markup. The coloring is applied as a format override and easily removed by a refresh of the EDD. The coloring features were mainly designed for conditional text purposes, but it would work in this case too.
AXCM is completely free. Disclaimer... I own West Street Consulting and this plugin.

• Bex query that returns variable number of columns based upon variable value

I have a request to create a query that, at excution time, has a variable for 'nbr of months', and based on the value entered by the user, returns data for only the specified number of months. Value that can be entered can vary from 1 to 12. A simple example is, if the user enters 1, then they would only want to see one column, and if they entered 6, then they'd like to see 6 columns in the workbook. All suggestions on how to implement this dynamic columns on a workbook will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
Do this->
1) first create a New Structure in Rows-> Place your New Selection and drag your KF.
2) Nw Create a New Formual under this structure. Now Create a Formula variable ( "ZFVXXX")with user-entry and ready for input and dimension as NUmber. and place in formula area. And hide this formula.
3)Now Create a New Customer-Exit variable on 0CALMONTH name as "ZCECMON" with following atrribute->Mandatory, Range(Interval) and remove check for Ready for entry.
4)Drag your 0CALMONTH in Rows above That Structure and restrict it to "ZCECMON".
5) Now go to CMOD and write this code.
INCLUDE ZXRSRU01 *
DATA: L_S_RANGE TYPE RSR_S_RANGESID. 'In global area
DATA: LOC_VAR_RANGE LIKE RRRANGEEXIT. 'In global area
DATA: zmonth like /bi0/0calmonth.
CASE I_VNAM.
WHEN 'ZCECMON'.
IF i_step = 2.
LOOP AT I_T_VAR_RANGE INTO LOC_VAR_RANGE
WHERE VNAM = 'ZFVXXX'.
zyear = sy-datum(4).
zmonth = sy-datum+4(2).
l_s_range-low = zmonth.
zmonth = zmonth + loc_var_range-low.
l_s_range-HIgh = zmonth.
l_s_range-sign = 'I'.
l_s_range-opt = 'BT'.
APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
ENDIF.
ENDCASE.
6) activate the porject and go to rsrt and run there first.

Is it possible to create such pie chart.I don't think so because that will be too dynamic, only thing you need is populate a hidden item on the page with comma delimited list of colors. and use it with the combination of Custom Color scheme and specify the hidden item example. PX_COLORS
This is what apex help says :
Enter colors separated by comma, or an item in the application that holds a comma separated list of colors.Set of Custom Colors will be used to change chart colors automatically if you selected Custom option for the Color Scheme.
For example:
Comma separated list of colors:#005381,#0D813D,#BB8199

• Change Column Header / Column Background color based on a value in a specific row in the same column

SSRS 2012
Dataset (40 columns) including the first 3 rows for Report layout configuration (eg: the <second> row specifies the column background color).
Starting from the 4th row, the dataset contains data to be displayed.
I would like to change the background color of the ColumnHeader/Column based on the value in the same column in the <second> row.
How can I accomplish the this requirement? (this must be applied for all the columns)
Thanks

Hi Fasttrck2,
Per my understanding that you want to specify the background color of all the columns/column header based on the value in one special column of the special row, right?
I have tested on my local environment and you can add expression to condition show the background color in the columns properties or the column header properties.
Details information below for your reference:
Specify the background color in the Column header: you can select the entire column header row and in the properties add expression in the Background color :
If you want to specify the background color for the entire column, you can select the entire column and add the expression, repeat to add background color for other columns.
If you want to specify the background color based on the value in the specific columns and row, you can create an hidden parameter to get the list of values from the specific column, specify the Available values and default values by select "Get
values from a query", finally using the expression as below to get the specific value you want:
Expression(Backgroud Color):
=IIF(Parameters!Para.Value(1)="1221","red","yellow")

• Set initial value based on query

Is it possible to set the initial value of a field based on a query. Kindly advice.
Regards,
Careen

Hi,
Yes. You can create a VO for your query and map that to the field on your page. Then execute the VO in PR method.
Or if the field is not based on VO, you can execute your query in PR method using PreparedStatement. Then get the handle of the field and set its value to the value returned in resultSet of the query.

• Plot a chart dynamically based on the values selected

Hi All,
I have some requirement like this i want to plot a chart . The chart should change dynamically based on target_name and date. What type of UI should I use ? I tried using multiselect or shuttle for choosing the target_name and date picker tool for date once i choose all this the chart should appear. Can I have a custom button called submit so once all the values are entered it plots chart ? Please help me out with our ideas.
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Using the dependent value sets you can govern the values which can be selected based on a specific value selected in a particular segment. Example if Country name is selected in segment 1 then specific states names as per the country selected can be displayed in segment 2.
As per the requirement described you want to enable different fields based on the value selected in segment1, currently there is no standard mechanism available to enable/disable fields based on a value and you will have to do an extension/customization to meet this requirement.
Thanks,
Sanjay

I have a query on DSO and it is running fine.
Current Query output :
CHAR1 | CHAR2 | KF1
1111       S            100
1111       H            100
I want to put + or - sign for KF based on value of CHAR 2 (Flag) in query output.
So
Desired Query output :
CHAR1 | CHAR2 | KF1
1111       S            -100
1111       H             100
I can Add CHAR3 in DSO and based on CHAR2 value CHAR3 will store +1 or -1. Add it can be used to get + or -Value of KF using CKF.
But without doing it (CHAR3), can I do it directly at query level ?
Regards,
Vinod

Try this:
RKF1: KF restricted on S
RKF2: KF restricted on H
CKF: (-1)*RKF1 + RKF2
This should give you what you are looking for.
Regards,
Gaurav
