Color slider and actionscript dilemma

Hi, Im making a quiz game (and am currently creating the
authoring flash file where users picks colors etc for the quiz) and
I was wondering how I can make a color slider to pass a variable to
an object which actionscript then changes the color of. Please
help.

there is a color object,
new color(movieclip name)
use setRGB(0xff0034) // in hexadecimal 0x is mandatory, "ff"
- amount of red, "00" is amount of green, "34" is amount of
blue..

  • Scanning slides and negatives for iMovie

What dpi setting should I use to scan my 35mm color slides and b/w negatives that will be imported into iMovie? I may want to print some of the photos too, so should I use a higher dpi and will iMovie compress the image to what it needs? When completed in iMovie, I'll burn to dvd with iDVD.

Hi Rick - my (not very powerful) dedicated slide scanner just scans to 1800dpi, and they usually result in rather dark images that have to be 'pushed' a lot in Photoshop - then the results are very acceptable. While in Photoshop you can also remove dust and other blemishes (some of my old ones had tiny patches of mould, and a few scratches as well!). As others say, scan at highest dpi possible - this also allows for some KB zooming (which is very useful especially for pics taken in portrait-mode).
In a few cases with very dark slides, the scanning was not very successful, so I used my video camera aimed at a projector screen (keep the image small), which worked very well, even allowing for zooming and panning to be done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Color fidelity between slides and FCE output

Until the recent past, I have been scanning 35mm slides using a Cannon Canoscan 9900F coupled with Photoshop Elements v 2.0 into FCE v 3.0 on a Mac G-4 with OS 10.4.3. The color fidelity between the slides and final output was reasonably good. Within the past week I have upgraded system software to OS 10.4.8; upgraded Photoshop Elements to v 4.0 and FCE to v3.5.1. Now when I scan slides, the resulting images (both on the desktop and as printed with an Epson stylus 2200) are dark as if the slides were greatly underexposed. The Photoshop Elements correcting or enhancing tools do not solve the problem. I don’t think this is a monitor calibration issue but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Jack A

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the relation with FCE ? It's seem that is more a problem with MAC OS X itself or photoshop or your scanner than FCE.

  • How can I Access the Flash "Slide class" using flex and ActionScript 3?

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me solve a problem...
I'm using the flex SwfLoader to load a flash side
    presentation as follows...
    <mx:SWFLoader id="ss_slides" source="ss_slides.swf"
    width="320" height="240"/>
I would like to access the flash "Slide Class" using flex so
I can make the following call...
    Slide.gotoNextSlide();
Anyone know how I can do that?
Would it be through the SwfLoader Object?
    Is there another way?
F.Y.I. Here is a snippets about the Slide class from the
    Flash 8 help...
Using the Slide class (Flash Professional only)
You use the methods and properties of the Slide class to
    control slide
presentations you create using the Screen Outline pane for a
    Flash Slide
Presentation, to get information about a slide presentation
    (for example, to
determine the number of child slides contained by parent
    slide), or to navigate
between slides in a slide presentation (for example, to
    create "Next slide" and
    "Previous slide" buttons).
You can also use the built-in behaviors that are available
    in the Behaviors
panel to control slide presentations. For more information,
    see Adding controls
to screens using behaviors (Flash Professional only) in Using
    Flash.
    Thanks,
    Chris S.

    Hi Chris,
You cannot access the methods of the Flash 8 movie from Flex.
And you can't do it the other way around either.
The only way to communicate is to create a LocalConnection on
    each side.

  • Messed up color display and resolution because of mini-DVI to video adapter

Once I connected the mini-DVI to video adapter to the tv and got weird colors on my screen for a while but then it worked out, then after a while I disconnected the cable and turned my computer off. After that, everytime I turned my macbook on, the color is fine for two seconds and then it turns into a weird offset color, really bright colors, kinda sketchy and just a few colors, and a weird resolution and display obviously, but then I just connect my Mini-DVI to video adapter and disconnect it again (quickly) and the color returns to normal. How can I make the normal colors stay and not have to connect the mini-DVI to video adapater everytime I want to see the normal color display and resolution??
    please help!

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, turn off the White on Black, VoiceOver, and Zoom options, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left. If the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop, drag half of the items from the Library/Preferences/ folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon into it, and narrow down the files until you've isolated the one responsible.

  • Master slide and table default - Very confusing behavior

This odd behavior cost me the last two hours, so I just wanted to check with you folks if you know a work-around.
Been fiddeling with a new Theme I am building and I was just about to define the default look for a table. Generated a table in the master slides window, applied all formatting I want and I was just about to apply it as the default for this theme (or even this master slide) and POOF - as soon as Keynote finished the
    Format>Advanced>Define Image for Current Master
the table reverted back to the look of a previous version. No matter how often I truied to re-create the intended look, it always came back in this half-baked form.
Very irritating, this behavior and I am sure that there is a fix. Anybody any ideas?
    Best Regards,
    /Dirk

Ok, so I built a new master theme - same effect. The background colors and text formatting for the body of the table would not hold.
Then I placed a placeholder object into the master slide for the table, did all my formatting, applied it and voila - it carried over.
Seems that the palceholder did the trick for me.
    Thanks for your support, brian

  • 4400F scanner has problems with color slides

About six years after buying the 4400F scanner, I finally opened it today in order to start scanning a lot of color slides going back more than 40 years.  It seems as if the software (or the scanner itself) doesn't know where one slide ends and the next one begins.  The slide holder accommodates up to four slides.  Using several methods of scanning permitted by the software, I obtain either three or five JPEG scans.  In the case of three, the images are properly centered--only the final one is missing.  In the case of five, the images are all off-center.
Has anyone had a similar problem with this unit and the software when scanning slides?

I've got a few years experience calibrating large format printers.  First, the Yellow sounds like a file problem.  I used to work with two workstations, one PC ( RIP station ), and one Mac ( file prep station ).  I tend to agree with you in that the OS is probably not the problem.  But, any Colorburst profiles should remain in the RIP, not in the originator application.  My workflow consisted of creating EPS files that were based on established color settings in their given applications ( i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop ) which were interpreted by the RIP which had it's own calibrated profile ( perhaps more than one based on how many different substrates were being used ).  Your partner may be complicating things by incorporating a RIP profile prematurely.  If there are deviations big enough to be noticed, there has to be something in the application color settings that is causing some type of corruption.  This could lead back to the operating system, but I would think it lies somewhere in Bridge or the application color settings.  Start there.  You should seriously consider implementing a calibration system if you do not have one already.  Another slight possibility is the driver's ability to interpret files coming out of Leopard vs. files coming out of Tiger.  It may benefit you both to be in the same operating system dynamics, using the same driver versions and RIP profiles.  At the very least, match everything that is currently working successfully and put them on both machines.  If there is still a noticeable problem in color matching, then something is seriously wrong and you should call in a prepress profiling expert.  Hope this helps.

  • PHP and Actionscript 3

I want to dynamically change the tintColor of a movie clip,
named toolboxMC_bg based on the value of a php variable $style set
    in s3.php. I'm using actionscript 3. Please help. I just don't know
how to get flash to get the value of $style. I have attached the
code I have so far. Thanks.

I feel that the problem lies with the actionscript not
receiving the php variable. I have changed the php to read the
cookie value. Please help! I get no errors in the browser and I get
undefined in the output window. However I do expect to get
undefined because I don't expect that flash could read the cookie.
That part actually makes sense. I know that the color change area
of the code works because if I change the default value I see a
change in color. Flash just cannot read my variable for some
reason. When you view the php page in the browser it successfully
reads the cookie and shows (in this case the cookie is red)
flashstyle=red. I have attached the php and actionscript.
    Thanks.

  • Scanning Slides and Negatives:  JPEG vs. TIFF - what do I really give up?

I am about to scan about 1,200 slides and color negatives and am trying to determine whether I should produce JPEGs or TIFFs. I did a test run and compared the quality of 4,000 dpi JPEG vs. TIFF and the image quality appeared similar - even when comparing print enlargements using a lupe. The file sizes differ dramatically -- so I am biased to produce JPEG, all other things equal. I understand that one major difference is that each time a JPEG is saved, some image degradation occurs since the compression is not 'lossless'.
A few questions regarding the drawback of using JPEGs as my 'masters' in Aperture:
    - Since I am using Aperture, and a feature of Aperture is always maintaining the 'master' without change, do I not have some protection against image quality loss (i.e., beyond that which occurred during the initial scan)?
    - Is there any adjustment that cannot be made within Aperture to a JPEG, that can be accomplished with a TIFF?
    - Any other drawbacks that I should consider when using a JPEG as the 'master' for my images within Aperture (vs. TIFFs)?
Note that I am not concerned about drawbacks associated with functionality in other programs (Photoshop, etc.), just drawbacks associated with functionality in Aperture.
    Thanks!

Along the lines of Live Picture, which was the first colour correction software for ColorSync, and LinoColor which was the first colour capture software for ColorSync, Aperture constructs ICC colour matching sessions to show the colours different colour devices are capable of forming, and does not change the source pixels in the colour correction process.
Nonetheless, JPEG is a lossy model by definition. It works the way compression works in the CIELa*b colour model or in Kodak's colour model for PhotoCD, that is, by destroying information in the chroma channels and preserving information in the lightness channel. Using JPEG as archival master is not a good idea imho, at least not if changes are to be made to the archival master.
For archival masters, select a colour correction ICC colour space (a 'working space' in Adobe terminology) that is large enough to hold any colours you are capable of capturing, and large enough to hold any colours the innumerable colour devices you will be matching to are capable of forming. You can use the Apple ColorSync Utility to check gamuts.
You cannot reproduce a colour that you do not have in your source colour space, even if the colour device you are matching to is capable of forming that colour. For instance, don't use sRGB that is too small to form the colour of pure cyan on bright art paper in ISO 12647 offset printing. And you may want to use TIFF that can be compressed losslessly. Always embed the ICC profile for the colour space in which you capture/corrected the image. Otherwise, there is no definition of the colours your colourants should form on colour devices that need to have the colourants changed in order to form the colours you intended.

My IPad has one half of the screen with vertical multi colored stripes and the other half is normal.  Has anyone had this problem and if so is there a solution?

You could have a hardware issue, but try this and see if it helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Is it possible for a module to remember last viewed slide and user interactions without an LMS?

I am developing a captivate module (using Captivate 6) that can be run either off a local hard drive or web server (not an LMS).
I am hoping that the user will be able to close down the module and then return to it at a later time. Considering the module will not be run via an LMS Is it possible for the module to remember not only the last slide that the user viewed but also any interactions that the user has conducted. For example: saved information in variables, image states (whether or not they have been clicked etc), widgets (I am hoping to use the drag and drop widget so I want the course to be able to remember what items they have dragged where).
Is this possible? I know there is a bookmark widget that uses cookies to remember the last slide the user viewed. I am also aware of another widget that allows you to save variables for use between projects, but in this case I will only have one project file. Is there something out there that does everything I need?
Does the 'self paced learning' checkbox in the TOC save user interactions?
    Thanks!

Thanks Lilybiri. So it sounds like there is no easy way to save  interactions when run locally. Would using javascript (thats run when a user clicks a save button for example) be possible? Get the script to save a cookie with all the variables and 'states'? I know that saving the variables is possible because there is already a widget that does that, so wondering if there is a way to save the slide states as well (for example whether or not images have been clicked etc).
Alternatively, if I create the project in captivate, is it possible to import into flash with all the functionality and actionscript intact and editable? From there I could then modify it to remember the saved states? (i am not proficient with actionscript  so just thinking of potential solutions).

  • Black color slider is multi colored. Glitch?

My black color slider is stuck as a multicolored gradient. The file was originally in RGB mode and I've seen it happen before but usually if I change my color mode to CMYK the black slider bar goes back to normal.
Does anyone know any way to fix this with illustrator open? It doesn't go away unless I close and re-open illustrator. I don't think that it affects my output colors...it's more just annoying.

Yes, that's a known bug in some Illustrator versions.

    Hi Rod,
As originally stated in my opening post, the SWF is to be inserted into an Articulate '13 slide (what I called an aggregator originally - I tried not to bring them up since I don't want the chatter about "There's your problem - using Articulate"! ).
Recall that posting this published file to our LMS did not allow right-mouse click functionality as the flash player menu just gets in the way.
If I insert the captivate 6 files into Articulate as a Web Object (referencing the entire folder with html, htm and assets, and then posted to our LMS, and it DOES allow RM click operations in both IE and FF (although no sound on the Captivate slide in FF). But this is not what we want to do as this introduces 2 navigation controls (the Captivate one and the Articulate Player).
Why must anything be posted to a web server for this functionality to work?
I am able to go into the Captivate 6's published folder, and launch the Captivate demonstration by simply double clicking on the index.html file and this works great in both FF and IE after changing the security settings for flash.
Again - I can not believe I am the only one out there trying to use the right-mouse click feature to do a software simulation by embedding the Captivate SWF into an Articulate '13 project.

What is happening in the most recent keynote when I click on a slide and it pulses (larger-smaller)  Two of my slides have disappeared in the navigator although if I play through them they are there and the slides have their orignal number--there are just white spaces where the slide should be and I can only get to the slide by clicking through from the prior slide.  How do I get the sldies back into the navigator so I can see them.  Oddly, they are show up just find on the light table.

Try removing any transitions or builds on these slides, or delete the slides then recreate them as fresh slides.
There are many playback anomalies in Keynote 6 which Apple have said they will be  sorting out next year.
