Colors in JTable.......urgent

Hello.
i have a JTable and i need to paint each line from it with a different color....
does anybody here know how can i do this?? an example would help a lot....
thanx

You need a class which serves as your table cell renderer.
private class ShooterCellRenderer extends JLabel implements TableCellRenderer,
                                                                           MouseListener {
     private JCheckBox chkBox = new JCheckBox();
     private int lastRow = -1;
     private int lastCol = -1;
     public ShooterCellRenderer() {
          super();
          setOpaque(true);
     public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable tbl, Object val, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int col) {
          Component cmp = null;
          switch (colIndex[col]) {
          case 0:
               setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.RIGHT);
               setText( ((Integer)val).toString());
               cmp = this;
               break;
          case 6:
               boolean b = ((Boolean)val).booleanValue();
               chkBox.setSelected(b);
               chkBox.setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.CENTER);
               cmp = chkBox;
               break;
          default:
               setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.LEFT);
               setText((String) val);
               cmp = this;
          if (dataModel.isDeleted(row)) {
               cmp.setForeground(Color.red);
          } else {
               cmp.setForeground(Color.black);
          if (isSelected) {
               Color c = null;
               if (hasFocus) {
                    if (dataModel.isCellEditable(row, col)) {
                         c = new Color(120, 220, 220);
                    } else {
                         c = new Color(200, 200, 80);
               } else {
                    c = new Color(250, 250, 100);
               cmp.setBackground(c);
          } else {
               Color c = new Color(255, 255, 255);
               cmp.setBackground(c);
          return cmp;
     public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { ; }
     public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) { ; }
     public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) { ; }
     public void mouseExited(MouseEvent e) { ; }
     public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {
          int nrOfClicks = e.getClickCount();
          if (nrOfClicks > 1) {
               if (whatToDo == FIRESELECTIONEVENT) {
                    int row = theTableInstance.getSelectedRow();
                    int col = theTableInstance.getSelectedColumn();
                    // The user double clicked the row (uneditable is set).
                    fireShooterSelected(((Integer)dataModel.getValueAt(row, 0)).intValue());
               } else if (whatToDo == EDITSELECTEDSHOOTER) {
                    // Editing
                    int row = theTableInstance.getSelectedRow();
                    startEdit(row);
}Then add the following code to your JTable:
        private shCellRenderer = new ShooterCellRenderer();
     public TableCellRenderer getCellRenderer(int row, int col) {
          return shCellRenderer;
     }Note: the renderer class above also takes care about the mouse clicks. Since it's actually came from one of my running projects, it may contain some references to the variables of the outer class (but the names are self explaining IMHO).
Note2: the switch is necessary only because I have different components in my table columns (have checkboxes for instance).
Note3: the renderer above actually prints the text in red for the deleted and black for the undeleted values, plus changes the background of the cell depending upon whether it's allowed to select a cell, and whether the editable feature is switched on or isn't.

  • How to get the default selection color from JTable

    Hi, there,
    I have a question for how to get the default selection color from JTable. I am currently implementing the customized table cell renderer, but I do want to set the selection color in the table exactly the same of default table cell renderer. The JTable.getSelectionBackgroup() did not works for me, it returned dark blue which made the text in the table unreadable. Anyone know how to get the window's default selection color?
    Thanks,
    -Jenny

    The windows default selection color is dark blue. Try selecting any text on this page. The difference is that the text gets changed to a white font so you can actually see the text.
    If you don't like the default colors that Java uses then use the UIManager to change the defaults. The following program shows all the properties controlled by the UIManager:
    http://www.discoverteenergy.com/files/ShowUIDefaults.java
    Any of the properties can be changed for the entire application by using:
    UIManager.put( "propertyName", value );

              g.setColor( Color.RED );

  • HELP!! set the cell color in jTable

    I need to set the color of a specific cell in jTable, but, I need to retain the old color in the jTable. It must not reset the whole table.
    would anyone help me in this problem... PLSSSSS its urgent

    A flexible variation on this is to specify formatting options in the JTable's client properties:
    // Use some sort of special "key" to indicate the cell and that you want to set the background color
    String key = "background:" + row + "," + column;
    table.putClientProperty(key, Color.green);You can then write a general table cell renderer that looks for these special formatting options and it doesn't disrupt your existing TableModel in any way:
    public class FormattingTableCellRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
      public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, int row, int column, ...)
        Component component = super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, row, column, ...);
        // See if the JTable specifies any properties to override the default format
        Color backgroundColor = (Color)table.getClientProperty("background:" + row + "," + column);
        if(backgroundColor != null)
          component.setBackground(backgroundColor);
        return component;
    }Any custom cell renderers you have then simply need to extend FormatTableCellRenderer instead of DefaultTableCellRenderer.
    It's very easy to add formatting options other than background, such as font, to the list of recognised attributes. You'll probably need to make some alterations to get it to recognise selection/focus but hopefully you get the idea.
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing background color in JTable, only changes one row at a time...

    I'm trying to change the color of rows when the 5th column meets certain criteria. I think I'm very close, but I've hit a wall.
    What's happening is the row will change color as intended when the text in the 5th column is "KEY WORD", but when I type "KEY WORD" in a different column it will set the first row back to the regular colors. I can easily see why it's doing this, everytime something is changed it rerenders every cell, and the listener only checks the cell that was just changed if it met the "KEY WORD" condition, so it sets every cell (including the previous row that still meets the condition) to the normal colors. I can't come up with a good approach to changing the color for ALL rows that meet the condition. Any help would be appreciated.
    In this part of the CellRenderer:
            if (isSelected)
                color = Color.red;
            else
                color = Color.blue;
            if (hasFocus)
                color = Color.yellow;
            //row that meets special conditions
            if(row == specRow && col == specCol)
                color = color.white; I was thinking an approach would be to set them to their current color except for the one that meets special conditions, but the two problems with that are I can't figure out how to getColor() from the table, and I'm not sure how I would initially set the colors.
    Here's the rest of the relevant code:
        public void tableChanged(TableModelEvent e)
            int firstRow = e.getFirstRow();
            int lastRow  = e.getLastRow();
            int colIndex = e.getColumn();
            if(colIndex == 4)
                String value = (String)centerTable.getValueAt(firstRow, colIndex);
                // check for our special selection criteria
                if(value.equals("KEY WORD"))
                    for(int j = 0; j < centerTable.getColumnCount(); j++)
                        CellRenderer renderer =
                            (CellRenderer)centerTable.getCellRenderer(firstRow, j);
                        renderer.setSpecialSelection(firstRow, j);
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.awt.Color;
    public class CellRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
        int specRow, specCol;
        public CellRenderer()
            specRow = -1;
            specCol = -1;
        public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
                                                       Object value,
                                                       boolean isSelected,
                                                       boolean hasFocus,
                                                       int row, int col)
            setHorizontalAlignment(JLabel.CENTER);
            Color color = Color.green;
            if (isSelected)
                color = Color.red;
            else
                color = Color.blue;
            if (hasFocus)
                color = Color.yellow;
            if(row == specRow && col == specCol)
                color = color.white;
            //setForeground(color);
            setBackground(color);
            setText((String)value);
            return this;
        public void setSpecialSelection(int row, int col)
            specRow = row;
            specCol = col;
    }If I'm still stuck and more of my code is needed, I'll put together a smaller program that will isolate the problem tomorrow.

    That worked perfectly for what I was trying to do, but I've run into another problem. I'd like to change the row height when the conditions are met. What I discovered is that this creates an infinite loop since the resizing triggers the renderer, which resizes the row again, etc,. What would be the proper way to do this?
    Here's the modified code from the program given in the link. All I did was declare the table for the class, and modify the if so I could add the "table.setRowHeight(row, 30);" line.

  • Changing Row Color In JTable !

    Hi friends
    I have two JTables. The first one has 7 columns and 10 rows (with data) but the second one is empty.
    The user can choose one row from first table and by pressing the ((copy)) button , copy that row to the second table. Is it possible to change the color of those rows(in the first table) that been copied to the second table. I mean if the user choose a row and copy then to the second table, the color of this row wold be changed.
    Can anybody help me with that??
    Thanks

    I think you are heading in the wrong direction here... you want to create a brand new DefaultTableCellRenderer and override the getTableCellRendererComponent method...
    public class MyRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer {
      public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value,
                              boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
                  JLabel lbl = (JLabel) super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus,
                               row, column);
                  //now I can change the background color depending on the row...
                  if (row == xxx) lbl.setBackground(Color.red);
    }Then use your new class on your table...
    <table.setDefaultRenderer(Object.class, new MyRenderer()); //the class must match what you TableModel returns for getColumnClass();Hope this helps,

    Yes, you use a TableCellRenderer. Rather than explain further I'll just refer you to the tutorial about JTable.

    If you have a different color for every cell in the table, then maybe it would be easier to store a custom Object in the TableModel that has two pieces of information:
    a) the text to be displayed
    b) the background color of the text.
    Then you can write a custom renderer that uses both pieces of information to renderer the cell correctly.
    Here is an untested example of what the custom renderer might look like:
    class ColorRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(
                   JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column)
              super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus, row, column);
              CustomObject custom = (CustomObject)value;
              setText( custom.getText() );
              if (!isSelected)
                   setBackground( custom.getBackground() );
              return this;
    }

  • Problem in setting the background color of jtable with Nimbus

    Hi
    I have created a java swing application. In which I am using JTable.
    When creating a simple JTable and displaying with Nimbus, the row background color alternates between white and a light blue-grey.
    I want the table with single colour. Only the first column should be grey colour and other should be white.
    I used this code to set the background and foreground colour.
    public Component prepareRenderer
        (TableCellRenderer renderer, int index_row, int index_col){
                Component objComponent = super.prepareRenderer(renderer, index_row, index_col);
                Color objGreyColour = new Color(240,240,240);
                Color objWhiteColour = new Color(255,255,255);
                if(index_col == 0){
                    objComponent.setBackground(objGreyColour);
                    objComponent.setFont(new java.awt.Font(CommonClass.getFontName(),java.awt.Font.BOLD, CommonClass.getFontSize()));
                    objComponent.setForeground(Color.BLACK);
                }else{
                    setSelectionBackground(Color.BLUE);
                    objComponent.setBackground(objWhiteColour);
                    objComponent.setForeground(Color.BLACK);
                return objComponent;
            } Look wise it is fine but when i try to select the cell it is not highlighting the cell and also i m not able to select multiple cell with ctrl key.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Sonal

    Hello,
    1) if you want better help soone,r please post an SSCCE (http://sscce.org) instead of a code extract.
    2) selection highlighting is lost because your code... doesn't handle selection. To take selection into account, you can use <tt>if (super.isRowselected(index_row)) {...}</TT>.

  • Change the cell color in JTable?

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to do that, the user make a selection of multiple cells in a table. And when it press enter, I whant to change the color of the selected cells.(the isEditable of JTable it's already overwritten to return always false)
    I have already make my own CellRender, my problem is, because the cell remains unchanged the render are not called...
    Thanks,
    NeuralC

    You need not access this function when you want to paint a cell. This is how your code while instantiating the table should typically look like.
    JTable table = new JTable(model);
    table.setDefaultRenderer(Object.class,new MyCellRenderer());
    and
    public class MyTableCellRenderer extends JLabel implements TableCellRenderer
    public MyTableCellRenderer
    setOpaque(true);
    setBackground(Color.white);
    public Component getTable.....(JTable table,Object value,......) //fill all these things
    setFont(table.getFont());
    if(value != null && isSelected)
    setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.RIGHT);
    setText(value);
    return this;
    When you set MyTableCellRenderer to the table, the getTableCellRedererComponent method is called automatically to renderer the cells and only the selected cells will be hightlighted in blue color. For a better understanding of how tables work and their corresponding Renderers work, you might have to read the tutorial on JTable. Do that as that would help you in removing all the confusion.

  • Change Row Backgroud color in Jtable : ADF Swings

    Hi ,
    I have developed a ADF Swings Details Form . On Details FORM LOAD if Check Box is TRUE( means selected) i have to change the back ground color of the JTable row and also i have make that row as READ ONLY mode .
    Need help.
    Regards
    Bhanu Prakash

    ok i found how to do it
    i directly inserted this in the renderer code:

    thanks :)

  • Change cell's color in jtable when user clicks on it

    Hi everyone,
    i've got a JTable, and would like to change the background of a cell when user selects it
    so i added a mouselistener over my jtable, the mousereleased method looks like this:
              public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) {
                   int row = table.rowAtPoint(e.getPoint());
                   int column = table.columnAtPoint(e.getPoint());
                            // help needed
              }as you see, i found the code to get the index of the cell selected, but i don't find any method in JTable class to get the cell component itself, and to alter its background color
    Please notice that the "setSelectionBackground()" in JTable isn't enough, since i would also like to change the color of cells which are not selected when the user select a cell
    how could i do that?
    Thanks in advance!
    edit: i tried the following but it does not work either
              public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) {
                   int row = table.rowAtPoint(e.getPoint());
                   int column = table.columnAtPoint(e.getPoint());
                   AbstractTableModel atm = (AbstractTableModel) table.getModel();
                   Component cell = table.getDefaultRenderer(CaseMemoire.class).
                   getTableCellRendererComponent(table, atm.getValueAt(row, column), true, true, row, column);
                   cell.setBackground(Color.MAGENTA);
                   table.updateUI();
              }

    ok i found how to do it
    i directly inserted this in the renderer code:
    if (row == table.getSelectedRow() && column == table.getSelectedColumn())
    cell.setBackground(etc);
    (curiously it does not work with "if (isSelected)")
    thanks :)

  • JComboBox in Jtable - Urgent!!!!

    Hi folks,
    I am using my owm editor for combobox in jtable. My problem is when I am editing the combobox, value is set only after I press enter or click on the other row. But I want to set the values when i change the selection in the combobox. How can I do that. It is very URGENT!! I appreciate any help.
    My code for editor :
    class comboEditor extends DefaultCellEditor
    public comboEditor (JComboBox b)
    super(new JComboBox()); //Unfortunately, the constructor
    //expects a check box, combo box,
    //or text field.
    editorComponent = b;
    setClickCountToStart(1); //This is usually 1 or 2.
    //Must do this so that editing stops when appropriate.
    b.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
    fireEditingStopped();
    b.addItemListener(new ItemListener()
    public void itemStateChanged(ItemEvent e)
         fireEditingStopped();
    protected void fireEditingStopped()
    super.fireEditingStopped();
    public Object getCellEditorValue()
    return editorComponent;
    public Component getTableCellEditorComponent(JTable table,
    Object value,
    boolean isSelected,
    int row,
    int column)
    editorComponent = (JComboBox)value;
    return editorComponent;
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks Greg. But my problem is when I select an item in the combobox still that column contains combobox in the table which I don't want. I want the combobox to be dissappear as soon as I select an item. This is important for me as I can change the values in the table dynamically by selecting the different panels underneath the dialog which contains this table. So, if user selects an item in the combobox ( without clicking the enter key)and then selects another panel (which loads different data ), then the selected value is set for the second panel not for the first panel(actually value shud be set for first panel).
    And one more problem is samething is happening for even textfield in the table. So, how can I fire editing stopped event before setting the new data. Actually, now when I directly set the data , it is setting the data first and then firing editing stopped event, so it is setting the data for second selected panel.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
