Colors shift when a PDF file contains transparent image

Hello,
I tried to programatically set a soft mask to an image by using the Addobe PDF Library, in order to make part of the image transparent. The image color space is RGB. I used PDEImageSetSMask() funtcion for setting the mask. I also have a PDF file that was created in the same way but without the part of the code that sets the mask. Therefore this PDF contains the same image as not transparent.
When I open two files in Adobe Reader 9.2.0 the colors are not the same. The colors in the file which contains the transparent image are a bit darker. The colors are different not only inside the image box, but in all page area. I also tried to open the same file in GSView and there was no such problem.
Can I fix this by changing the Adobe reader preferences, or this is a problem in the code that genereates the PDF?
If this is not the correct forum to ask this question, please direct me to the correct forum
Thanks

You need to set the transparency blending space of the page to RGB, since the default blending space is CMYK (hence the color shift).  You do this by adding a transparency group dictionary to the page's dictionary when creating the PDF.

  • Color shift when converting .mov file exported from Macromedia Flash

I'm trying to convert quicktime file exported from Flash into any other format using Quicktime Pro 7.0.4 and I get substantial color shift. Here's the picture:
    http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/1518/screen3ov.jpg
On the the left is the initial file, and on the right is what I get. I've tried all codecs setting (targa, jpeg2000, animation) but no luck. Please help!

I am in the midst of trying to figure out the opposite : Flash to After Effects.  I am betting that this is an issue of 'color profile' attached to the images and the gamma settings in that profile.  RGBA is only part of the story - color profile is all the rest of it.  Eye Dropper doesn't tell you the color profile attached to the image.

  • Colors not displaying when viewing PDF files

Recently I've discovered that when viewing PDF files I'm not seeing all of the colors in the charts. This is happening with PDF files that I made as recently as last year (when everything looked fine). It's also happening with files that other people at other organizations have made. If I go to a coworkers computer and pull up the files, I can see everything just fine. Also, when I print the files, everything comes out just fine. Any ideas as to why I'm not seeing things correctly on my machine? I'm using a Dell laptop, Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, Microsoft Word 2010. I've also been having problems with graphics disappearing when converting Word files to PDF files but that's a topic I'll post on the Acrobat page. Seems like it may all be related to my new laptop. Thanks.
Attaching an image of what I see when I view the PDF file and a screen shot of the Word file with the color in which does print even though I can't see it. I can see some of the colors in the PDF file but not all of them.

    Hi,
The problem with ie9 or ie8 gets more complicated, since the alt key works on some files, one example is:
    http://www.instrulog.dk/download/manualer/humanware/focus-14-manual
The files where it does not work are placed on sites that require sign in with a digital signature, so it is impossible to give urls to  the files.
With screen readers and with pdf files in the browser, the normal way of getting to the
address bar does not work, but that is not really a problem but a minor irritation, and not a new behavior.

  • Color shift writing to PDF

Am getting a slight color shift when exporting from InD to Acrobat PDF... slight shift towards a more magenta tint... see attached.
    http://peterpica.com/comparison.pdf
All colors are process in source file and am writing to standard print-ready (4/c) PDF format.
    Any ideas?

The PDF you included also previews correctly, so something is probably up with your Acrobat CM settings. The output numbers also match between ID and Acrobat.
What happens if you open Output Preview? Make sure the Simulation Profile is set to your ID profile (SWOP):

  • Color shift when printing

We have a Xerox workcenter 7655 at work and since I upgraded to Snow Leopard I get bad color shifts when printing. It's mostly too much magenta. I converted a cmyk file to a high quality pdf and the color was accurate when printing from a Windows machine but the light blue was badly shifted to lavender from my Mac. I tried different cmyk profiles when creating the pdf and printed the native file out of InDesign with the same results.
The print I get from the Windows machine has the same colors as what I see on my Mac's monitor. I do mostly web design now and have been out of the print end for some time. Until I moved to Snow Leopard, I didn't have this problem.
Can I get some ideas on how I can address this?
    thanks

You answered your own question: CS5.  There have been a slew of reports of workflows spun upside down when upgrading to CS5.  It may require updating your system software and/or Adobe applications, along with any printer driver updates that may be lurking out there somewhere.  The twist to your situation is ( and is very common ) that everything was working before and now it does not.  Or there is a certain print disorder of some sort.  Very troubling.  I wish I had a smoking gun answer for you, but I don't.  It sounds like you have a very viable workflow in place that worked before and damn well should perform for you now.  I'd stick with what works and dump what doesn't ( if you can ).

  • Glitches when Rasterizing PDF Files?

Hi, I'm having issues with Photoshop 5 when rasterising pdf files on a new iMac running OSX 10.6.6. Small glitches, like lines appear in certain areas (see images below) When I rasterised the same file on another older iMac running OS 10.5.8 and Photoshop 4 it rendered correctly. Any ideas what may be causing this and any solutions/work arounds?
    With glitchwithout glitch

    Uhhhh,
specially in a printing environment you should avoild rasterizing any PDF. This is the worst way you can go:
Are you aware about text and vectors which are rasterized become blurry?
Are you aware that 1c-black becomes 4c-black
Are you aware that a pdf can contain different color spaces and profiles?
All this information causes in bad printing quality. Please, don't use PS to rasterize PDFs. If I would realize that my printer is doing it, I would stop any cooperation with him and I would also cancel any open orders and consider to request money back for all other orders. (I would realize it with the first delivery I get it.)

  • Intermittent Problem of Corruption when printing PDF files

From time to time I have a problem with text corruption when printing pdf files. Text comes out one character alphabetically later.
For example, a file I printed yesterday contained the text "ONE WEEK VISITOR LICENCE". On printing it again today (on the same computer and printer), it appeared as "POF!XFFL!WJTJUPS!MDFODF". But another attempt immediately afterwards was correct. Here is a scan of the correct and incorrect printouts
I have had this problem intermittently over a couple of years, particularly with pdf files embedded as a frame in a web page.
I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.0 (but the problem has also appeared on earlier versions), Windows XP SP3 with all updates and an HP Deskjet 6980 printer on a wireless link.
    Any advice would be welcome

Not sure why this may be happening. But you can try printing the PDFs as an image, which should solve the problem. It may take a little longer to print but at least you will get a correct print.
You can do the same by Clicking on the Advanced button displayed on the Print dialog and checking the checkbox for "Print as Image".
Hope that this fixes the issue.

  • Color shift when uploading

I have been trolling other sites to learn what might cause this.
I recently got a Huey device to callibrate my monitor. (I send out digital images of artwork and they need to be acurate color.)
After taking some images and loading them onto iPhoto, they seem to look very much like what I saw on the camera lcd screen. I can make subtle color and tone adjustments while capturing on the Panasonic Lumix camera. Usually, they are so close to what I want, all I do is crop in iPhoto.
But I am experiencing color shifts when I upload to make webpages so I can burn discs, or today when I uploaded to a local photo printer. They seem to move a bit towards more orange/pink tones, but when I drag them to the desk top, and open in Preview, they look identical to the iPhoto stored images.
I have read some ideas about RGB and there being bugs in iPhoto that alter your files even as you are loading them from the camera!
Does anyone know how I could fix this?
I can write scripts if it takes it. Thanks

    Nanci
The pics look correct in iPhoto and Preview, right?
But not on the Web or at your local printer?
iPhoto and Preview are both Color Managed - that is (along with Safari) they read and respect the color profile of the pic.
Do the apps your Printer is using, or that you are using to view online, respect the color profile?

  • Color shift when using save for web

    Hello,
I am converting my psd files to jpegs using "save for web".  I am noticing that the colors are shifting from the original after saving for web. The color shift  does not happen if I just convert the psd files to jpegs by using "save as". The psds have a profile of RGB1998. I am using CS3 and my monitor is color calibrated.
Do I need to convert the psd documents to sRGB first before I go to "save for web"?
The preview doesn't look any different if  I check ICC profile in the save for web window. I have been told that you are not supposed to embed the ICC profile in the document when saving for web because most monitors are untagged.
Anyway I am  wondering if I have to accept a color shift when saving for web or is there something I can do to get the saved for web jpegs to more closely match the original psd?
Thanks a lot for your help.

I think the reason why this question is asked often is because the FAQ entry is pretty lame and incomplete, especially for Mac users that by default have a color managed browser and by default have a screwed up rendering mechanism for untagged images.
Depending on your version of Photoshop, you can convert to sRGB before or during the Save for Web operation.

You convert to sRGB for the systems that do not fully support color management.
    and...
You include the sRGB ICC profile for the systems that do support color management.
Doing both covers your bum in most situations. You may choose to omit the ICC profile if you are working on common interface graphics that do not require strict color management. The ICC profile adds a few kilobytes to the file size that are not necessary on lesser graphic elements on a web page.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (admplugin.apl) crash when opening PDF files

    Hi,
I did spend some time today trying to get Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to run on a Citrix Access Essential 2.0 server.
    Setup
    Server OS:
    Windows Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched.
    Other software:
    Office 2003 Standard, Danish, SP3
    Symantec Antivirus 10.1
    Adobe Reader 8.1.2, Danish
The installation is clean (1 week old).
    Problem description:
When opening PDF files, Adobe Reader crashes before showing any content from the PDF file. The module crashing is admplugin.apl.
    Work-arounds tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (DK).
    Disabling Antivirus (service stopped)
Replacing admplugin.apl with admplugin.apl from Adobe Reader 8.0
Uninstalling DK version and installing US version.
Adding user to local Administrators to exclude any permission related problems.
Deleting Adobe folders from users profile Application Data\Adobe\... and Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\...
    Turn DEP off
    Solution:
Finally I gave up and installed 7.0.9 (Danish). It works as expected.
It seems that the problem is known and a few user has reported this. One Adobe KB article mentions the problem, and the solution is to disable some 3. party diagnostic/support tools provided by DSL providers. This is definitively not the issue in this installation.
Anybody from Adobe having any input to this problem?
    Best regards from Denmark!

    Hi,
I am having a similar issue with Ver 8.1.2 running over cirtix with a similar setup to Jans-Peter.
The difference is that Reader opens fine but when you try to edit preferences it crashes.
This only happens on an citrix session. If I run reader on the server directly it works OK.
However after reading above I can replicate the problem on the server by moving or deleting the ADMPlugin.apl file.
    Any further ideas at all?

  • When a pdf file is opened in a tab, the automatic scroll function from the pad does not work in the other tabs, but only for the particular PDF tab.

The scroll function from the pad/mouse does not work for the other tabs when a PDF file is opened.

    Hi NSHS,
Have you checked to see if your PDF add-on is up to date? You should take a look at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article. There is a lot of good information in there. You should try both of the suggested PDF add-ons to see if that fixes the issue.
    Hopefully this helps!

    Caro Fabiano,
    Atentamente,
    Gonçalo Matos
