Column Chart Query

Hi,
I am trying to re-create a chart from excel in Application Express and after much playing I have got the data into one series and ordered correctly, is there any way which I can colour some of the lines in the the series a different colour?
Cheers
David

Hi David,
What version of Application Express are you using?
Based on your posts, I'm not 100% sure what results you're trying to achieve. Are you hoping to achieve an overlay effect, like this: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:11 - or a Group By Series effect: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:82 ? If it's neither of those looks, then maybe you could take a look at the AnyChart chart gallery, and pinpoint the type of chart you're hoping to create: http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/gallery/3D-Column-Cone-Pyramid-and-Cylinder-Charts.php.
Custom colours can be applied to your chart via the 'Custom Colors' option on the Chart Attributes page. In APEX 4.1, we now support a new chart attribute called 'Set Color Level', which allows you to specify whether you want the specified colours to applied per series (i.e. even bar in your series will have the same colour) or per point (i.e. each bar in your series will have a different colour). So the 'Custom Colors' option might meet your needs. If you've got a test case on apex.oracle.com, I'd be happy to take a look - just post the workspace name and temporary login credentials to access it.

Hilary

  • SSRS Column Chart Design Returning values in a format different from SSRS -SSAS Query Designer

    Hi All,
I have an SSAS cube Measure Group with Multiple Measures that I am attempting to return on one SSRS report and reflect the
values using a ssrs column chart.
    My Measure Group (Patients).
    Measures:
    PatientsOnMeds
    PatientOnRelapse
    PatientsCounseld
    TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd
    NewlyRegisteredPatients
    HealthPersonelTrainef
    Demension:
    Time (Year) :filtered to 2012 & 2013
In my SSRS query designer I have filtered the above Measures with Time Dimesion year 2012 & 2013
and the data is returned as :
    Year |PatientsOnMeds|PatientOnRelapse|TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd|NewlyRegisteredPatients|
    2012 | 700          | 526            |  25                          | 456
    2013 | 245          | 245            |  15                          | 70
Now the problem is when I return this data on the column Chart it's in messed up mesh
    On the chart Data:
    -Values :Measures
    -Series Group: Dimension
The report values are returned in multiple columns for each value segmented by year i.e year 2012,Year 2013.
I want a single column for each Measure (value) for each single year and The chart axis to reflect the measures(values)
instead of grouping values according to series group.
    instead the legend returns:
    -Year A -PatientsOnMeds
    -Year A -PatientOnRelapse
    -Year B -PatientsOnMeds
    -Year B -PatientOnRelapse
I would like the legend to reflect on -Year A,Year B in color code that will be highlighted in the column values.
Please point me in the right course if you can.Your insights are highly appreciated.Thank you in advance.

    Hi Charlie,
Thank you for your kind response.
In actual I want the legend to show:
    -2012
    -2013
And the bottom axis to show:
    PatientsOnMeds
    PatientOnRelapse
    PatientsCounseld
    TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd
    NewlyRegisteredPatients
    HealthPersonelTrained
Indicating in color code for Year 2012 and Year 2013.
This the challenge that I am struggling with.I hope you understand my scenario.
    It aint easy.

  • Column chart from Bex query with 2 characteristics in rows and column

    Hi,
We're trying to represent the following column chart in Dashboard Design:
    Material/Month
    January
    February
    March
    Material 1
    100
    200
    300
    Material 2
    400
    500
    600
    Material 3
    700
    800
    900
    The BEX query has:
    Result objects: Material, Month/year; amount
The problem is when i paste the Material dimension in the Excel, i'm getting the following result:
    Material/Month
    January
    February
    March
    Material 1
    100
    200
    300
    Material 1
    400
    500
    600
    Material 1
    700
    800
    900
So, when i display the column chart, the material tag is incorrect:
    as the image attached shows.

    Hey Flora,
Happy to hear that its working now.
Answering your question, again its upto the connection and report format you are using. Based on your question i hope you your report output should be like this.
You cannot map to two labels for the series, again this report format is possible only in cross tab through Webi. I would suggest you to concatenate the material and month in a dimension in webi like below.
I have done the concatenation in excel level, i would suggest you to do that in webi. Try to reduce the formula as much in excel.
    or
If you are using Query browser connection, then i would suggest you to create a separate report which will display the actual vs plan material wise, here you need to pass the material as a prompt.
Hope this helps in clear, please revert me for any clarification.

  • How to reset drill-down column-chart based on map-chart?

    Hi guys,
I'm facing pritty common issue while designing one of my dashboards.  Let me describe a little bit  more:
    1. I have some data extracted from BW using Query as WebService into my Xcelsius spreadsheet.
    2. I have map-chart - regions for some country.
    3. I have a drill-down column-chart, which displays data for a selected region.
At the beginning column-chart displays results for entire country (which, in fact, is not exactly drill-down). The issue I'm fasing is, that in case I select any region and the data is drilled-down into my column-chart, I have no option to show data for the entire county in the column-chart anymore (the only one way is to restart the report).
Are there any possible way to do this, or am I doing a design error while displaying data, which is not drilled-down, into a chart which is intended to display drill-down data only?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ivaylo Mutafchiev,
I understand your problem now. So your column chart data which is coming from the QAAWS query should be having a prompt which is bound to some cell in excel. and your map might be passing the values for prompt isn't it? in your case the map might be passing a region.
All you need to do is put the prompt in the web service for region as a optional prompt. Now pull in a check box or a Push button(name it as reset or something.). while binding the data to the check box or push button (source data) bind it to a blank cell. when user clicks on it , it passes a blank vlaue to the region(this is ur input for region) which will inturn makes the prompt optional for the region web service. which should pull all the data for all the region.
The whole idea lies in somehow passing a blank cell to your  web service whose region prompt is optional.
    Thanks,
    Karthik

  • Is it possible to create column chart in WAD

    Hi All,
I would like to know if it is possible to create WAD -column chart  in BI

Though Arun has almost answered your query, gues this might also be helpful to you.
You can create and here is how to do it SAP recommended way:

  • Unable to edit wizard created SVG chart query

    Hi,
I have a problem with an SVG chart that one of the HTML DB wizards created.
On the generated page the wizard created a selection list item named P30_SHOW.
This item allows to choose a table column based on which an SVG pie chart is generated.
The automatically generated chart query is:
    select 'f?p=106:26:&SESSION.:::RP,26:P26_CHART_FILTER,P26_VALUE:'||:P30_SHOW||','||"&P30_SHOW.",
    "&P30_SHOW.", count(*)
    from "TESTTABLE"
    group by 'f?p=106:26:&SESSION.:::RP,26:P26_CHART_FILTER,P26_VALUE:'||:P30_SHOW||','||"&P30_SHOW.",
    "&P30_SHOW."
The page with selection list and chart worked fine at first.
But then, when I edited the chart's width on the respective 'SVG Chart Attributes' tab and pressed
the 'Apply Changes' button I got the following error:
'Query cannot be parsed, please check the syntax of your query. (ORA-01741: illegal zero-length identifier)'
I only changed the chart's width, I did not touch the chart's query at all.
My theory is that HTML DB tries to validate the correctness of the chart's query.
However, the query references a session variable (P30_SHOW) that is
not defined in my development session. Consequently, the query is not valid in the
development context and is refused by HTML DB.
    Now I have two questions:
    1. Is my analysis correct, or are there different reasons for the error I do encounter?
    2. How can I get around the problem? I'd like to use the automatically generated charts,
but also want to be able to edit them.
Thanks in advance for helpful comments.
    Regards Holger

    Scott,
I imported the application using the import/install process. A new application ID was created but was not changed in the chart query. The link was generated by the application wizard. The chart query link is below:
    select 'f?p=103:2:&SESSION.:::RP,2:P2_CHART_FILTER,P2_VALUE:'||:P6_SHOW||','||"&P6_SHOW.", "&P6_SHOW.", count(*)
    from "O_DATA_COLLECTION_POINTS"
    group by 'f?p=103:2:&SESSION.:::RP,2:P2_CHART_FILTER,P2_VALUE:'||:P6_SHOW||','||"&P6_SHOW.", "&P6_SHOW."
The new application id is 101. It is impossible to modify this query because of message:
    "1 error has occurred
Query cannot be parsed, please check the syntax of your query. (ORA-01741: illegal zero-length identifier"
This happens even if nothing is changed in the query but just the apply changes button is pressed.
I had a similar problem with the breadcrumbs menu. The link was also pointing to the old application id 103 instead of the new application id 101. The way I got round that was to delete the breadcrumb template and create a new one. I then had to go through all the pages that referenced that and reset the breadcrumbs menu template in the region definition.
    Thanks Arjen

  • Chart Query and Failed to parse SQL query

    Hi,
first of all, this is not a question. It is a reminder for me and maybe for someone with the same problem.
I just fell over this for the 123124 time.
    I have a 3D Chart Query
    select sum(order_ok) value,
          count(*) maximum_value
    from      v_dialer_campaign
    where campaign_uuid = :P300_CAMPAIGN_IDSaving fails with
"1 error has occurred Failed to parse SQL query!" ...
Saving the query without validation works, but does not show any result in the chart.
v_dialer_campaign is a view selecting from a view in a mssql db over database link and HS.
running the select in sqlplus or toad works.
Without any trace on freetds/unixodb/hs side, i would have not found the following line:
[FreeTDS][SQL Server]The data types nvarchar and text are incompatible in the equal to operator.[FreeTDS][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared.
    Solution:
with q as (select :P300_CAMPAIGN_ID val from dual)
    select     sum(order_ok) value,
         count(*) maximum_value
    from     v_dialer_campaign
where     campaign_uuid in ( select val from q)Maybe the error output when validating the query should be included in the APEX error message.
Same solution applies for dynamic LOV's reading from HS using a where clause.

I tried your first query on Apex 3.2 and it created a nice dial chart.
Is there any ORA-xxxxx error along with the "failed to parse SQL query" message? Did you double check column & table name spelling?
P.S. The second query is invalid (a superfluous comma after the second column).

  • Add Total to Stacked Column Chart on the top and another important thing is the data are from SharePoint site

the same with the following description from another question:
"How can I display a total on top of each column on a stacked column chart (using
reporting services 2008)? If I use Data Labels I can display the
values for each part of the stack on a stacked column, but I want to be display the total.
For Example: If I have stacked column on chart with a value of 10 for the 1st stack, 20 for the 2nd stack,
and 20 again for the 3rd stack - I want to display 50 (the SUM total) as the data label on top of the entire column..."
and a solution for this would create a new column named SUM(category group), this can be done with data source from SQL server, but my data is from SharePoint site list. its query seems can't be changed which means I can't add a SUM column.
what should I do with this? Can anyone give me a hand?
    thank you very much.

    Hi sophiexu,
If we want to display a total for each column on the top of a stacked chart, we can use a matrix control to display the column total value to work around this issue.
The following thread about how to simulate chart legend is for your reference:

  • Value range(column chart): management cockpit

    Hi friends,
how can i put value range condition in column chart. my situation is like this
    I have 10 employees with expereinces 4.1(i.e 4 yrs 1 month),5.5, 1.2, 0.5, 3.5, 0.2, 4, 6, 7 and 8.
I want to present in column chart in x-axis like <1 yrs, 2-4,5-6,>7 and in y-axis count.
How can i achieve this. I maintained calculated keyfigues(for <1 yrs, 2-4,5-6,>7) on key figuer total experience and, in bi report i'm getting correct output. Even total experience is also calculated key figure and perfectly viewing this value in cockpit. But in managment cockpit, remaining calculated keyfigues(<1yrs,2-4,5-6,>7) i'm not getting. So i want to prefer to set value range in chart.
    pls suggest me.
    thanks,
    raju

    Hello  Raju,
You can achieve this by simply using a User defined Periodization & Time Variable.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sem60ep1/helpdata/en/1b/3131375fc9342ae10000009b38f839/frameset.htm
    Defining Periodizations
    1.     To define a periodization, choose Periodization in the dialog structure.
    2.     Choose  to switch to change mode.
    3.     Choose New Entries.
    4.     In the Periodization column, enter a name for the periodization (up to four characters).
    5.     In the Fiscal Year Variant column, choose the fiscal year variant on which you want to base the periodization. (The periodization itself is based on periods of the fiscal year variants.)
    6.     In the Long Text column, enter a descriptive name for the periodization.
    7.     Save your entries and return.
    8.     In the list of periodizations, select the periodization you just created.
    9.     Choose Interval in the Dialog Structure.
    10.     Choose New Entries.
    11.     In the Interval No. column, enter a sequential number for each period to be defined, starting with "1".
    12.     Specify the left time limit (= Start column) and the right time limit (= End column) of the range by entering the respective period of the fiscal year variant on which it is based.
Eg: In your case you follow this
                   Start Column          End Column
    Period 1(<1 yrs)           1               12
    Period 2(2-4 yrs)                     13               36
    Period 3(5-6 yrs)                     37               60
Period 4(>7 yrs)          61               specify the no. of months you want to calculate for
    13.     Save your entries and return
In the Cockpit-Frame-Design screen for the mesures(KPI) on the Y-axis you select the check box of Periodization and select this User defined Periodization created by you. You click on the aggregation box too to get the cummulative value for the defioned periods.
Hope this helps. Revert incase of any query or let me know if it doesnot work as I have tried this with quarters and its working fine in my case.

    Priyanka Singh

  • BO 4.0 Web Intelligence, Error: Column Chart shows not the whole data

    Hello,
I want to create a case study in BusinessObjetcs 4.0 (Web Intelligence) with a column chart.
Year is the Category Axis and Revenue is the Value Axis.
Unfortunately the resulting chart shows only the year 2008.
If I choose Month as Regional Color the chart shows all years (2008-2011).
What I do wrong? Or is this a bug?
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Wladimir

    Hi again,
What I think is that there simply isn't data in the report other than the 2008,
or at least the combination of the section master/year only has 2008 data.
If that is not what you expect and there should be more data, also when looking specifically at the values for just this section,
then you could check if you may be have incomplete query results. Standard they will be limited to 5000 rows, unless your universe designer decides otherwise.
Check the number of rows returned (free cell with query details),
if it is 5000 (or any other nice round figure) have a chat with the universe designer.
    Good luck,
    Marianne

  • Chart Query problem

    Hi all ,
I am a newbie to Oracle apex and have stuck in an issue . I am using this query for my Chart Source
select NULL link, count() Count VALUE , to_char((TRUNC(ORDER_DATE)),'Month') "Month"*
    from  "HR"."OEHR_ORDERS"
    group by to_char((TRUNC(ORDER_DATE)),'Month')
    order by 1 desc
but it gives this error when i click next
    1 error has occurred
    Failed to parse SQL query!
select NULL link, count() Count VALUE , to_char((TRUNC(ORDER_DATE)),'Month') "Month" from "HR"."OEHR_ORDERS" group by to_char((TRUNC(ORDER_DATE)),'Month') order by 1 desc*
Certain queries can only be executed when running your application, if your query appears syntactically correct, you can save your query without validation (see options below query source).
what should i do and what am i doing wrong ? as this query gives the correct result if i run it in SQL window
thanks for the help in advance

In your first query, you gave the count(*) column two names COUNT and Value. That I think was your only mistake.
The column ordering might not matter if you only have one value column, but if you want a single chart query to represent more than one line, then the ordering matters.
In my application I use an Apex item to hold the entire query as text, including v(...) bindings, and displays 1 to 50 lines, dynamically depending on the number of value columns. The names of the lines are derived from the column names.

  • Column Chart

    Hi ,
In my  query I have 2  characteristics say C1 andC2 and 6 key figures out of which I need only  2 say K1 and K2 to display the chart. I have to develope 3 charts which are differenciated by Characteristic C1. and the charts will contain characteristic  C2 on the Xaxis and K1 and K2 on the Y axis. Is there any way by which I can do this? Please reply , this is very urgent.
    Regards

This is how you need to do...
    Component: Column Chart
    Data:
    Team A, Team B, Team C
    11        ,  0         , 0
    0          ,45         ,0
    0          ,0           , 72
    Chart Properties:
    Add series...Team A
    Values (Y): 11,0,0
    Add Second Series...Team B
    Values (Y): 0,45,0
    Add third Series...Team C
    Values (Y): 0,0,72
    Category Labels (X) : Team A, Team B, Team C
Now you will see a chart with 3 columns with 3 different colours and 3 series...

  • WebI 4.0 Combined Column Chart Customization

    Hi,
Is there a way to customize the cobined column chart if I have 3 metrics and I want to specify different colors for each metric.
    Metric 1 - Bar - Blue color
    Metric 2 - Line - Red Color
    Metric 3 - Bar - Green color
Is this do able in WebI. we are on SP 7 for Webi 4.0 and using SAP Bex Query.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Custom palette colours in Webi 4.0 are tricky, but possible.
    From here: http://www.pieterverstraeten.com/blog/custom-color-palette-sap-bo-bi-40-bi4-change-analysis-crystal-webi-house-style/
    Open C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\images\VisualizationConfig.template.xml
    Save the file as VisualizationConfig.xml
Edit the colours as you please.
    Save the file.
    Restart Tomcat.
Yeah, a tomcat restart to change colours. I'm sure this will be tidied up in a future version.

  • SVG Chart Query 'Length'

    Hi,
I cause the following error to be raised when trying to save (Apply Changes) the query for an SVG chart:
ORA-20001: set_attribute error: ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
The query just got 'longer' which prompts the question:
Is there an upper limit to the length (number of characters) of the query ?
Thanks for all and any help,
    sinclair

I cannot answer your direct question, but if your SELECT statement is hard-coded and not generated from PL/SQL, I can offer a possible work around. You could create a database VIEW using your SELECT statement and query the view in your SVG chart.

  • Different sort order with line chart and stacked column chart

    Hi,
I have a problem with sorting within flash charts.
The chart should be ordered by a date column.
If I'm using a line chart everything is fine. The columns in the chart are in the same order as returned by the query.
If I change the chart type to stacked column chart, I get a wrong order.

    FROM db_performance_temp
    ORDER BY zeitpunkt ASC
    SQL> desc db_performance_temp
    Name Null? Typ
    ZEITPUNKT DATE
    DB_SID VARCHAR2(30)
    VALUE NUMBER

    I found the solution.
Anychart seems to have a problem with null values!
The corrupted sorting only occured for a specific set of search criteria and a specific day. At this day some values have been null.
    I added a "nvl( [...], 0) for every value.
No I get a correct sort order.
