Column dependencies in a query
I have a statement that gives me all the dependent ids that are dependent on id b from the table1. I need to join this table
with another table to get correct order of these ids.
Can any body help.
Thanks in advance
FOR REC IN (select distinct id
from table1
start with b = value
connect by prior id = b) loop
table_of_array(TAB_ITEM_COUNT_OUT) :=rec.id;
TAB_ITEM_COUNT_OUT := TAB_ITEM_COUNT_OUT + 1;
end loop;
Just because the column names were in quotations when the database was created doesn't mean that the quotes are actually part of the names. What's inside the quotes is what makes the column name in the database. If I created a column as "abcd" and put it in quotes just like that ("abcd"), it would go in the database as abcd since SQL would strip off the quotes.
And there's your answer. Just put all column names in quotes whenever you need to talk to SQL. It will strip off the quotes and understand.
I think SQL will also accept square brackets ([ and ]).

How to calculate the individual sums of multiple columns in a single query
Hello,
Using Oracle 11gR2 on windows 7 client. I have a question on calculating sum() on multiple columns on different columns and store the results in a view. Unfortunately I could not post the problem here as it keeps on giving error "Sorry, this content is not allowed", without telling where or what it is! So I had to post it in the stack-overflow forum, here is the link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16529721/how-to-calculate-the-individual-sums-of-multiple-columns-in-a-single-query-ora
Will appreciate any help or suggestion.

ThanksLooks like you want a simple group by.
select
yr
, mnth
, region
, sum(handled_package)
, sum(expected_missing_package)
, sum(actual_missing_package)
from test
group by
yr, mnth, region
order by
yr, mnth, region;I wouldn't recommend storing your data for year / month in 2 columns like that unless you have a really good reason. I would store it as a date column and add a check constraint to ensure that the date is always the first of the month, then format it out as you wish to the client.
CREATE TABLE test
year_month date,
Region VARCHAR2(50),
CITY VARCHAR2(50),
Handled_Package NUMBER,
Expected_Missing_Package NUMBER,
Actual_Missing_Package NUMBER
alter table test add constraint firs_of_month check (year_month = trunc(year_month, 'mm'));

Insert into TEST (year_month, REGION, CITY, HANDLED_PACKAGE, EXPECTED_MISSING_PACKAGE, ACTUAL_MISSING_PACKAGE)

Column name in a query contains special characters
Hi folks,
The column name in a query contains special characters. For example ~ or ^. The creator of the table put these column names under double quotation while creating the table. When I get the column names form the result set meta data object it returns without quotation. Is there any way to tell the jdbc driver so that it return those column names as it was created, I mean in double quotation.
The help is urgent. I will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks .

something like this...

or
select (12+3) as "Sum1", (12-3) as "Sum2", CASE WHEN ( "Sum1" / "Sum2" * 100 > 0 ) THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END

How to use a Formula Column in the main query?
Hi All,
I've tried to use a formula columns defined in some query in the condition of that query like this:
where (:cf_ex - :cf_ex2) >= 5
but when I run the report no data returned! Why? and how to use it the condition of the query?
Note: I'm using Forms 6iwhere (:cf_ex - :cf_ex2) >= 5You cannot do that. Formula columns are not part of the select statement (which runs in the database), but are processed in the report.
When you created this query, my guess is that you got the message "Note: the query Q1 has created the bind parameter(s) cf_ex, cf_ex2". Check these User Parameters in your data model. So, you are actually referencing user parameters in the query, not formula columns.
I made a computations and things using PL/SQL that can't be done in the select statement in the data model!If it's pl/sql you can probably use that in your query. Create some database functions for cf_ex and cf_ex2 and use these in your query. -

Parsing which columns used in a query
Hi,
i try to write my own advisor :-) I´m looking for a package that can help me to find out which columns a used in query in a codition
Example:
select 1 from emp
where deptno=10
and job='CLERK';
=> deptno and clerk
I worked with col_usage$, but it seems not always correct, and it´s not updated when you zuse explain plan ...
Does anybody know, how Oracle´s dbms_advisor/dbms_sqltune finds out which columns are used in a condition ?
Thanks
Marcompatzwahl wrote:

You would need to write a SQL parser.
The language definition is here
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/toc.htm
And don't forget that a function could be used in the condition so you will need to parse PL/SQL also
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25519/toc.htm
Try it out on something simple like this and see how far you get
