Column Displaying Error

Hey,
Ive created a JTable and tried to call data from a database to be displayed in this table. However, when it does so, it actually just blanks the first column and fills the data in every subsequent column. Therefore leaving out the data of the last column. it puts data from col1 into col2, and so forth!
Heres the code:
String player[][] = new String [30][13];
String columnNames[] ={"col1","col2"..."coln"} //where n = col12
int i = 0;

int j = 0;

while(rs.next())
     for (i = 1 ; i <= numColumns ; i++ )
     player[j] = rs.getString(i) + " ";     
     j++;
squadList = new JTable(player, columnNames);
squadList.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(new Dimension(680, 400));
data = new JPanel();
data.setBackground(Color.black);
JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(squadList);
data.add(scrollPane);
You may notice that the player[][] is declared with values [30][13], i want the table to be max 30 rows, but the 13 should be 12 in my eyes. However, when i do so, i get
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 12
Im not sure if this is the reason why the columns are displayed wrong or that i get this exception coz of some other error. Any input would be appreciated.

Still same result...
numColumns is got from ResultSetMetaData.
I also tried just entering in the exact number of columns!
My short term solution was to just enter a blank column, Ive a demo tomorrow, so if anyone could figure it out in the meantime that would be brilliant
