  • Faux column background not aligned in smaller browser window...

    I'm working on a three-column webpage.  I'm using fixed-width columns, with the left and right columns floated (started with a dreamweaver layout).  I am also using a background applied to the <body> tag to apply the faux column look, so that the side column backgrounds flow all the way down the page.
    My layout is a total of 780px wide, but the background image I'm using is 2000px wide.  It's the same image that was used in the previous version of the website, and I can only guess that the image is that wide to "fill" the extra space around the main content when the browser window is wider than 780px.  Because the image is so wide, I have it styled to center on the page.  When my browser window >= 780px wide, everything looks great... the faux columns line up perfectly with the divs.  However, when I make the window less than 780px, things get messy.
    My layout elements stay where they are, meaning that the left edge of the container stays aligned with the left edge of the screen and a scroll bar appears at the bottom.  However, since my background is set to center itself, it continues to try to center itself in the browser window.  Basically, the content is not centered in the browser window, but the background is, causing the faux columns to not line up with the divs.  The relevant CSS I have applied is:
    body  {
        font: 100% Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
        text-align: center;
        font-size: 12px;
        color: #666666;
        background-repeat: repeat-y;
        background-position: center;
        background-image: url(../img/BG-gray.gif);
    #container {
        width: 780px;
        margin: 0 auto;
        text-align: left; /* this overrides the text-align: center on the body element. */
    Note: everything within the container div stays where it should relative to the container, so I didn't include the CSS for them, though I can post it up later if you really need to see it.
    Is there a way to keep everything lined up in a smaller browser window? Or, would it be better to trim down the background image to the same width as the container?
    Sorry for the long message, but I'm new at this.  Please don't eat me.

    Same problem, only worse.  That causes the background to show from the very left edge of the image.  All my text is in the gray area in the example below.  Let me try to clarify...
    The background image is something like this (colors are for clarity):
    (filler)
    Left faux column
    Main content goes here. This is always in the center of the browser window.
    Right faux column
    (filler)
    Where the combined width of the blue, white, and red sections is 780px.  This is what I want my layout to line up with, the blue and red columns being the faux left and right columns, respectively.  The gray areas are "filler" that colors the excess width in browser windows that are wider than the fixed width of the main content.  With the background set to centered, the white stripe is always centered in the browser window.  As long as the window is wider than my layout, the layout is centered in the browser window as well.
    I'm looking for a way to either center the background relative to the layout container, not the browser window, or to keep the layout container centered in the browser window when the window is narrower than the layout.

  • In XI pro, exporting PDF to Excel problem.  Excel columns and data are not properly aligned.  Help?

    I used 30 day trial of Acrobat XI and all the functions work perfectly.  But, when I buy the program (either download or disk) my PDF that export to Excel is not working.  The excel columns and data are not properly aligned as they should be.  The Trial version aligns everything perfectly.  What is happening?  I use a MAC 10.9.5.  But this shouldn't matter because the trial version works perfectly.  Can anyone help?

    just found out that this is posted in the wrong section.

  • Cells from layout-mode alignment

    I'm trying to use layout-mode table to build a site. Even
    though the cells are created inside a table they don't snap to the
    table and are all not aligned. How can I align them? How can I
    include code that allow me to control the exact position of the
    cells?
    I originally set up the width of the table to 800px and now
    is 816 (?) and I can't change it back to 800!!!
    Also seems like the cells move around all the time! Is there
    a way to lock them down to position? Thanks for your help here too.
    Thanks

    Stop immediately. Layout mode creates convoluted code that is
    next to
    impossible to troubleshoot if anything goes wrong. The
    problems are so
    great that Layout mode was removed from Dreamweaver CS4.
    Learn to build
    web pages using conventional techniques. It takes more time
    when you
    begin, but saves a lot of time and frustration later.

    That's one of the problems with Layout mode. Whenever you
    change
    anything, it's very difficult to control.

  • Dreamweaver does not allow me to edit the editable region

    Oh my, I'm so desperate in this, I have a .dwt and have set up the editable region as well. When I want to make a new html file from the said template dreamweaver does not allow me to edit it. I mean, all the code is completely grayed out as if the template itself is locked by default.
    What I want to do is to create several new pages such as new albums, charts, genres, contacts (which all based on the home template) The home template itself has slider in its body. For the new html files I'm about to create (which I'm so desperate why I can't do so) I want the header and footer to remain the same.
    Here is an image of my index.dwt (my homepage) anything inside the red frame is what I want to edit for new albums, charts, genres, contacts, login page, etc. The top part is the header and the bottom one is the footer (Excuse the right image, I'm working on dual screen)
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Sorry for my english

    Hello SeptianNugraha,
    here some hints concerning while handling templates (I quote):
    The main principle of DW Templates is:
    Non-editable regions = propagate to all child pages. The content of non-edtable regions is identical on all child pages. When you edit a non-editable region, DW propagates all changes to all child pages.
    Editable regions = do not propagate because they're unique to every child page. The whole idea of editable regions is that they contain page specific content which does not appear on any other child page.
    And:
    PART 1
    1. Create a prototype page with all the sitewide elements (common header, footer, sidebar, etc..) that you will need for your entire project. This requires some careful pre-planning even for small web sites.
    2. Validate your code & test this prototype page in all major browsers. 3. When you're completely satisfied with your layout, SaveAs Template. DW will save this as a .dwt file in a site folder called Templates.
    4. DW will ask you to add Editable Regions for stuff that will change from page to page. Do this and SAVE.
    5. Close your Template.dwt file.
    PART 2
    1. File > New Page > from Template.  Select the template you wish to use.  Hit OK.
    2. This is a child page.  You can only edit content within editable regions.  Everything else is locked.
    3. SaveAs index.html (your home page) to the root in your local site folder.
    PART 3
    Repeat PART 2 for each additional page required.
    PART 4
    1. Open your main TEMPLATE file and add a navigation menu with links to your site pages.2. SAVE.3. DW will ask if you want to populate changes to child pages.  Hit yes.
    4. Publish all site pages to your server.
    PART 5
    If you should ever need to edit your TEMPLATE .dwt file, Repeat PART 4.
    Good luck!

    Try this without the border images and it will work in all browsers with increased text size. That's assuming eBay supports embedded CSS styles (which I'm not convinced they do).  Inline styles are safer IMHO.

  • PanelLabelAndMessage not aligned in hierachical viewer until node is clicke

    Hi,
    I am using the DVT Hierarchical Viewer. Using the code below (which is similar to the the demo code). The Labels column is coming out zig-zagging (not aligned to the right) but the OutputText column comes out aligned correctly to the left. Once I select (put focus on the node), the label column aligned correctly.
    Can someone please tell me what I need to so that the nodes will render with the label column aligned.
    <af:panelFormLayout inlineStyle="padding:5px" id="pflc3" styleClass="AFStretchWidth">
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage label="Name" id="plmc3" >
    <af:goLink text="#{node.name}" id="gl2"
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage id="pn1" label="First Name">
    <af:outputText id="iii" value="#{node.firstName}" />
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage id="pn11" label="Last Name">
    <af:outputText id="iii1" value="#{node.lastName}" />
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage id="pn111" label="Email">
    <af:outputText id="iii11" value="#{node.email}" />
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage id="pn1112" label="Work Phone">
    <af:outputText id="iii112" value="#{node.phoneNumber}" />
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    </af:panelFormLayout>

    Thanks for the suggestion David.  I tried that this morning but the issue still remained.  Are there any known issues with the latest 3.3 patch and the viewer?
    As an added note, the issue is not browser specific.  It happens in both IE and Firefox.
    Thank you.

  • Output is not aligning

    Hi,
    Can someone please tell me what I can do to make my output align correctly? I used Titanic and then Mission Impossible for the name of the DVD's and the output is all off. It's correct but not aligned right with the column headings.
    Thank you!!!

    Java is not actually designed and developed for stand alone console application. So you cannot expect output in console as you thought. There may be third party utilities for your needs. Just google it. You can use your own logic to do this. It is not difficult. Anyhow I include this code here. This would be helpful I hope.
    public static String padAlign(String string, int fieldLength, char padding, boolean alignRight)
    int length = fieldLength - string.length();
    if (length <= 0)
    return string.substring(0,string.length());
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer(fieldLength);
    for(int i=0; i<length; i++)
    buffer.append(padding);
    if (alignRight)
    buffer.append(string);
    else
    buffer.insert(0,string);
    return new String(buffer);
    public static void main(String[] args)
    System.out.println(padAlign("Test",20,' ',true)+" "+padAlign("Test again",20,' ',true));
    System.out.println("--------------------|--------------------|");
    System.out.println(padAlign("Test",20,' ',false)+" "+padAlign("Test again",20,' ',false));
    }

  • Images not aligning properly in table cells

    I have a simple table (1 row, 4 columns).
    Three of the images have identical dimensions (108 x 200 pixels). After placing them each into a cell of the table, the middle image is not aligned with the other two. Instead, it is higher in the cell.
    I looked at source code, and everything appears to be identical. Also, every image has the default setting for alignment (center, middle).
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks

    OK thanks for posting a link to your site.  The error is in Line 73 .  The code snippet looks like this:
    Click on the above picture to get a magnified version of it and you will see that in Line 73 you have something like this:
    & nbsp;
    Delete it and your problem is solved.
    Good luck.

  • Planning Layout error K9162 - max number of columns in planning layout rest

    Hello collegues,
    our client would like to have 34 columns in planning layout costs activity inputs of TA KP67. But error message K9162 - max. number of columns is restricted to 30. So I tried to switch of the message with TA OBA5 application area K9 - msg number 162. But this does not work as the error comes up again even though the message is switched off.
    Do you have some ideas?
    Thanks and regards,
    Christian

    Hello,
    thanks for your response. I have maintaine in OBMSG:
    K9     162     WE     E    switch off selected
    then in OBA5 for dialog and batch I have maintained  -
    but the error is upcoming again. So I think that this sort of message cannot be switched off as the planning layout is restricted to 30 columns by design maybe?

  • Help for fixed columns in web layout

    Hi all,
         I'm facing the problem of Fixing the column of web layout,I know there's a post of solving this,
      Fixed Rows/Columns in Web Interfaces
    but all the download links in this post are expired,could any one send me the file or the how to documents to [email protected]? thank you very much!
       thank you all.

    Denny,
    The easiest way is to use the Microsoft OWC (office Web component) and you can have Excel on the web where you have to publish the layouts for the web.
    If not, and you use pure web, Olaf Fisher's paper might be published as a how to guide by now.  I would suggest a search on SDN.  I have downloaded the file a long time ago but I think it is on the server in the office.

  • Data columns in BPS layout

    Hi,
      My current BPS layout has three columns, they are cost,price and margin respectively. The user now ask to add another column call "alert" after the margin column.
    The logic is that if the margin is less than 10%, then the alert column should marked with "X", otherwise leave it blank.
      In order to add a column after margin column, the added column have to be key figure which will not allowed characteristics,while all the other key figure type such as amount, quantity, date ect will not take
    "X".
      Any idea or suggestion.

    JW,
    If Margin is the last column on your layout, what you do is in the last layout definition screen, add the locl excel formula to the column after where the margin would appear.  Then you just use simple excel formula to do it.
    For things to appear only if there is data in the row, I typically use an IF in the excel formula and check for values in cost, price, margin.  Actually it would be 2 nested IFs.  One to check for value and the other to determine the 10% and mark it with a X...  In purely excel formula, there is no distinction between key figures and characteristics since it is only Excel.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing 4 up 6x9 pages on 11x17 and not aligning up

    Trying to print 4up 6x9 pages on 11 x 17 paper duplex. Indesign layout is exacetly the same for all the pages. When I print the odd page is not aligned up with the even page. Example the header and bottom page number doesn't align up with the side of the page.
    I even printed one page first and feed it back in the printer to print the next page. It's close but still off a little bit.
    Can someone tell me if I'm missing something here or what my layout is not setup.
    I appreciate it.
    Thank you.
    Aloha

    While Eugen is coorect about what I'm asking, his solution may not work on every printer. Even relatively expensive commercial printers like the Minolta BizHub series and similar products from other vendors don't have the same sort of sheet-to-sheet tolerance for alignment that yo will find with a printing press because they use differnt technology for moving the paper through the machine.
    It's not unusual to see drift through a long run of up to 3mm or .125 inch overall acros both the length and the width of the page when working with digital printing equipment. In general that's within the machine tolerance specifications (+/- 1.5 mm) for page-to-page registration, and the only thing you can do is design to account for the possibility and use margins large enough to hide a discrepancy.
