Com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform(1.6) Kernel Panic?
Hi everyone,
I recently updated my 2008 Aluminium MB (2GHz C2D, 4GB Ram) to 10.8. Since then I have had KP reboots several times a day. Attached below problem report.
I have tried resetting NVRAM, updating to 10.8.2 but doesnt help. Can anyone help?
I hope a complete reformat will resolve the problem rather than being a hardware issue?

Greetings
I started to get Kernel Panics (2 today). I pasted in the last one.
The last one happened while Time Machine was running and Spotlight did indexing.
I cannot say for sure that this was the case when the first kernel panic was thrown but I presume it was.
CPU was pretty busy both times and the fans running full speed.
Anyone any thoughts on what's going on here?
Thanks & Regards,
Stefan

Does not happen when running direct into Ethernet, only when using Wifi
I have an AEBS, dual band, but I did set it to G only (in an effort to help route out the cause).

go into System Preferences, Network, Airport, delete those networks that your system remembered.
Go into Keychain and delete all Airport related keychains (be careful not to delete anything else)
Open Airport Utility and choose reset to factory and then go through and setup exactly like before (or making any changes you wanted).
Try this using the NEW AU that came out last week.. -
Hi Everyone!
Over the last couple of days my MacBook performs a kernel panic and forces me to restart. I have to restart a couple of times before it works properly again, but sometimes the screen stays black when I turn it on, and it just sits there until I restart it again using the power button.
I've taken dump of the error message in panic.log and it appears that it is the AirPort card causing problems. Can someone confirm this, and suggest what I need to do to resolve this issue as it is becoming quite annoying now. I bought my MacBook back in October last year, so it should still be under warranty.
Heres the relevent content of the panic.log:

Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Feb 22 20:55:00 PST 2007; root:xnu-792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386Hey boys and girls...
Well, after reading a few of the posts, I can say this:
1. I have the N activated from the factory- This is a week old macbook. (Utilities/Network Utility, choose en1 from the dropdown - if you see (802.11 a/b/g/n), you have n installed)
2. The ONLY airport driver loaded into the kernel is atheros, meaning it MUST be the active driver. See kextstat -l | grep -i airport
3. I have been monkeying with replacing extensions from previous versions. So far, I have not had a wifi dropout or kernel panic... BUT IT'S EARLY IN MY TESTING.
Here's how I replaced the extension. This is taken directly from a macfixit tutorial. NOTE: 10.4.9 still produced a wifi lockup. I have now used the airport kext (I chose all I found) in 10.4.8 and SO FAR (only tonight) I have not had a dropout. IT COULD STILL HAPPEN THOUGH, SO YMMV:
Reverting to older AirPort kernel extensions [Useful for: slow wireless throughput, router not recognized]
f you are experiencing dire AirPort connectivity issues after a major system update (incremental Mac OS X update or Security Update), and have exhausted all other workarounds, you can try reverting to older version of the AirPort kernel extension via the following steps: [WARNING: This workaround is risky because you should not generally mix and match kernel extensions after updates. You will also lose any AirPort-related refinements brought about by the most recent update and new conflicts can ensue. Still, in a bind, it can restore wireless connectivity where other workarounds fail.]
1. Download the Mac OS X combo updater directly precedent to your current system version if you applied an incremental Mac OS X update (e.g. Mac OS X 10.4.9), or your current system version if you applied a security update from Apple's download page.
2. Download and install the shareware application Pacifist
3. Drag the Mac OS X combo installer package (e.g. MacOSXUpd10.4.9Intel.pkg) onto the Pacifist application icon.
4. Click the triangle next to System to expand it
5. Click the triangle next to Library to expand it
6. Click the triangle next to Extensions to expand it
7. Scroll down and find the file AppleAirPort.kext. Drag it to your Desktop or another location (you will have to enter your administrator password)
8. On your Mac OS X startup drive, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and locate a similarly named file (AppleAirPort.kext). Move it to another location for safe keeping.
9. Now drag the file from step 7 (the one that you retrieved from the Mac OS X combo install package) into the /System/Library/Extensions directory on your startup, in effect replacing the newer file (installed by the AirPort updater) with and older copy -- you will have to enter an administrator password.
10. Restart your Mac

Hello, so I have an iMac G4 17" (running 10.4) and it was unfortunately not connected to a very good surge protector. The power surged and a fuse blew and now when I try starting it up it chimes and then just sits at the gray screen with the apple logo. Here's what I've tried:
Booting into verbose and single-user modes, this is what happens:
Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.applemacriscPCI
Couldn't alloc class AGP
Still waiting for root device
Still waiting for root device
Still waiting for root device etc.
Booting into Open firmware mode:
I'm able to do everything just fine, including resetting the nvram
Resetting PRAM:
Works fine, chimes when appropriate
Starting from Tiger install DVD:
Works just fine, I'm able to access all the utilities and was able to copy files off to a flash drive with the terminal. I used Disk Utility to repair the drive and repair the permissions, both of which ran successfully. I did a clean install of Tiger and then repaired the drive and permissions. I selected the new install on the hard drive as the default start-up disk. Still it sits at the gray screen and I still get those same errors in Verbose and Single-User modes.
I found the source code (a cpp file) for the com.apple.driver.applemacriscPCI, but don't really know how to compile it and what headers are necessary etc, and even if I did I don't know where I would put it since the problem can't be on the hard drive after I did a clean install. I have not yet tried completely reformatting the drive before an install but doesn't the installer do that anyway?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Message was edited by: Yost SmithThere may be some circuit damage in the computer; due to the surge of power.
Sometimes, a computer and its owner get lucky and when a surge disables a
Macintosh, a reset of the Power Management Unit (PMU) can help restore the
normal functions. Often, when this works, the computer may not go past the
grey screen at all, until the PMU is reset.
Instead of a simple surge protector, my computers are powered through a
backup power supply; an uninterruptable power unit with battery backup.
These also have automatic voltage regulation. Forget common protectors!
On the iMac G4 series, the PMU reset button is under the metal plate on the
bottom and is hard to see. There may be instructions with images available
online, perhaps in Apple Support's knowledge-base. This would also be in
the official service manual in pdf electronic documentation, for a tech repair.
How to reset PMU in iMac G4:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1712
You may have to see if the Apple Hardware Test can show error codes and
other hints of hardware damages; and perhaps a tech visit is not far off...
Good luck & happy computing!

Hard drive died with a kernel panic during time machine backup
after installing a new hard drive into my 13" macbook pro (mid-09), i used the time machine utility on the os x install disk to restore from my last backup. the restore went well and all my data was fine. however, after about 30 minutes of internet browsing, i got a random kernel panic and after rebooting the computer the new hard drive was no longer being recognized.
i have no idea what happened to the drive (it was brand new, just installed earlier today) but a major concern of mine is that time machine was trying to back up the computer when the kernel panic occured, so i had to reboot in the middle of taking a backup. could this possibly corrupt my time machine backups?
im really scared right now so any insight helps.

Replaced hard drive - now I get kernel panic when I load installation disk
Hi all,
I just replaced a dead hard drive on my Powerbook G4. The Apple Hardware Test says everything is fine. When I put in the installation disk that came with my laptop (OS 10.2.3) and hold down the "C" key I just get the polite suggestion in several languages that I reboot--from surfing the boards I think this is called a Kernel Panic (?). If I don't hold down the C key the computer just crashes. It is possible that my installation disk is bad--was accidently stored in the attic for a couple of years and I only went to look for it after my hard drive died. However, the AHT disk was also stored up there and it worked just fine. I have the phone number for Apple to call about replacement disks, if no one thinks I've overlooked some other possible cause.
Thanks,
LoriLori:
I am glad you were able to boot from your co-worker's disk. As you noted, that isolates the issue as being a faulty install disk.
It looks like I'll be purchasing 10.4.
To install Tiger your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Tiger.
You will need to purchase the Full Retail Version of Tiger. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales 1-800-692-7753.
You can find the Full Retail Version of Tiger, if you shop carefully, at online outlets like FastMac Retail $159; CDs $179, HardcoreMac Retail $199, CDs $249, AllMac Retail $149, CDs $179, etc. If you know what you are looking for, read all documentation carefully and ask questions of the seller, you may be able to get Tiger on eBay.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.
Cheers

We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details. You are experiencing a page fault (reference to an area outside of what is owned by the software in question) in the AirPort driver, in a Mac OS X kernel that does not have obvious third-party modifications to it.
This should not be happening. Your Mac OS X image may be Bad.
If you do not already have a Trusted Backup, that should be your Top Priority.
If this is a new MacBook, and it is within the first 90 days of ownership, contact telephone support and ask them to help you. They will likely suggest a re-Install, right over the Mac OS X you have in place now. This is intended to do no damage, but you should always have a Backup. -
We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details.Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software. -
Kernel panic 10.6.8 backtraced to com.apple.GeForce
Recnetly experineced my first kernel panic in ages on my MBP 3.1. Recntly upgraded to 10.6.8 and, FWIW, the nVidia GeForce 8600M GT failed while under warranty about two years ago and the entire motherboard was replaced. Also, no external USB devices attached and Parallels 6 updated to latest version. Panic log is below:

my iMac crashed quite often recently.
Everytime is crash the log shows ''com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(1.7.1)'' in backtrace
(not sure what does that mean... I have no idea about that)
Can anyone help me find out the problem, please?

Kernel panic: com.apple.ATIRadeonX1000
My father's iMac has been panicking once every few days for the last month or so.
I don't know what he was doing at the time and he doesn't remember. I'm just visiting for Christmas and trying to learn what I can post-mortem.
I don't see any non-Apple kexts, which would have been my first guess.
Here's the latest panic file... Any ideas?

Kernel panics: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBAttachedSCSI
I've been experiencing a number of kernel panics lately, about once per day (it always seems to happen while I'm at work). The problem report seems to indicate that the com.apple.iokit.IOUSBAttachedSCSI kernel extension is the culprit, leading me to believe that my backup disk is the issue here. All four USB ports on the rear of my iMac are exhausted with the following peripherals.
- LaCie 2big 4TB external drive, connected via USB 3, configured with RAID 1 and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system, passes the disk utility check
- Audioengine D1 external DAC
- Apple Superdrive
- The last USB port is connected to an APC UPS
I did a bit of googling on this problem and found several people recommending booting in safe mode, removing certain peripherals, uninstalling software for peripherals, etc. Safe mode is not really feasible since this only seems to happen once per day. All of these peripherals are essential to my workflow and none have required the installation of third-party software. I quite frankly find it inexcusable that a USB peripheral would be causing daily kernel panics. Has anyone else experienced these problems and have a potential fix? I should also note that all of these peripherals had been working with my iMac for many months without issue before these kernel panics started. Here's the the system configuration information that is generated in the report sent to Apple:

Thunderbolt Bus: iMac, Apple Inc., 23.4I suggest you start by removing the LaCie software, which is not needed to use the drive. You have no other software capable of causing panics. Test.
If there's no improvement, remove the two aftermarket memory modules that you installed and test again.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software. -

You might now create a new temporary user account. Log into the new account. Do the panics still occur?
I would also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Sometimes they can be difficult to track down. Looking at each new panic log would help determine if it's cause is associated with the same extensions. -

Also the safe boot red words that was on the top of my screen on the log in window dissapeared after logging in.
So does i have to worry, or its normal. And now that i started up with safe mode does that mean that my mac is alright now? thank you for all of your time also !
