Command Line CD Player

Although VLC works fine on my computer, it seems wasteful just to play an audio CD. Can anyone recommend a command line CD player that will work with ALSA?

I'll also throw in a shameless plug for nccd, a curses based cd player I've written in perl.  It can do cddb lookups if you are connected to the 'net.  It is very simple to use, but does require you to install a couple of perl modules.
Audio::CD is available on the aur, but Curses::UI is not.  I'll try to get it up there in the next day or so.  All documentation is available on the website.

  • [solved] command line music player

    Hi,
i'm looking for a very simple command line music player like mpg123 but with a server option like mocp/mpd.
Other than mocp or mpd i want it for playing files on-the-fly. Like browsing around and playing files i see in the current directory, queueing them, maybe with a curses interface like ncmpc.
As far as i know, mpg123 can't queue and doesn't run in the background per default. mocp on the other hand comes very close but i don't think it can play files out of the current working directory like i want it.
Do you know a tool that fits my description?
    Thanks in advance,

fwiw, i have a script i call playnow which accepts a file path and plays it through mpd.  i use it for one-off downloaded content or whatever.  it just adds it to a temp folder, quickly updates the db, adds the temp folder to the current playlist (queuing) and plays it.
it's been working well for me.  i also hear mpd accepts the file:/// uri scheme which kinda takes care of this usage case too.
As far as I know, MPD's database is updated automatically via inotify as soon as a file is added, so I think you don't even need to update before playing.
sounds great in theory, but i'm not so sure about in practice.
for inotify to pick up the new file(s) and mpd to update itself all between bash executing `ln -s` and `mpc add` would be... impressive.  calling `mpc --wait update` manually means i only wait exactly as long as the update requires.
thanks for the advice though, maybe i'll test it out and see.

Is there any command line audio player that can handle song rating and play count? Thank you

I answer my question: mpd + mpdcron can store song rating and play count and much more to sqlite database.

Hi I am new to the imac. I have a script that needs to play ogg sound events. So I need a command line callable audio player. Is there one for the imac?

Try PlaySound 1.6.6 - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Is there a command line music player?

I simply want to play some music in my console

I'd suggest mp3blaster. Somaplayer is also good, and I'm thinking to write a PKGBUILD for the suite.
Another great thing is indeed mpd. Client-server architecture, easy to set-up and support for CLI, TUI and GUI. Furthermore, since every UI is client side, after you chose the playlist you can kill it without any problem, the music will go on, and opening another UI (local or remote) will take you to the current playlist... simply great

  • Command line mp3 player with equalizer support?

I would like to use CLI to play my mp3's, but MOC doesn't have a equalizer and that really hurts my ears. lol
Is there another program I should look at or is there a way to add equalizer functionality?

Yes, but u have to --forcever if u want the 2057 branch that the patch was written for. Thanks to snowman for that tip.
But, what I realized after reading the website http://moc.daper.net/node/310 is that developer branch 2061 has the patch for sound mixer already in it. So since makepkg forces newest svn version all u have to do is run makepkg or install with yaourt moc-svn and this functionality is all ready for use with the 'w' key.

  • How to install adobe flash player through command line with some script

    Hi Guys,
Do you know how to install adobe flash player through command line with some script?
    Thanks,
    Galina

Windows. I tried silent install  with "install_flash_player.exe /install" but it works only with one file that I downloaded from adobe.com - "install_flashplayer10_mssd_aih.exe". But it is possible to download this last file only one time, every next time it redirects me to download install_flash_player.exe file.

  • Command line to detect installed flash player version

    Hi All,
Happy New Year to you all.
I have one desktop application (Flash Director/C++) for which I am developing Windows installer script. I am facing some problem developing the installer script regarding installed Flash Player version. When I am running the script, it is overriding the already installed Flash player irrespective of the version.
Is there any command line (for Windows script) to know the version of the Flash player prior to install the installer contained Flash player so that I can check before pushing the installer Flash player?
I would appreciate your quick reply.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sanjoy.

Can anyone please give some inputs on this query?

Please note that all browser windows must be closed before executing either the installer or uninstaller.  The following document describes the different parameters:

There is no MSI (nor .exe) for the Authorware web player.
    It's only
available as a .cab. However, of course, you could unpack the

create your own MSI if you have the proper tool (i.e

Someone (in China?) did that a couple years ago. Searching

  • Can flash player app be run and controlled in a system with only command line?

I want to test my.  flash app in a remote linux pc. I am not permitted to install  desktop environment in that remote pc.
So I am wondering if I can use flashplayer_10_sa_debug to run my app in a system with only command line access.
And further, can I use some command option to interact with my app for doing something?
If not , how can I reach my goal? Can you give me some advices?

    Hi,
Can we get a status update for this? This seems to have broken Mac Projector files when published from a PC. Our old CD-ROM presentations no longer work. They throw the same error.
Is there a bug ticket that we can follow? Any sort of timeline? I need to give an answer to my client on when this will be fixed. Telling them to disable Gatekeeper isn't really a great solution.

  • Command line parameters and resuming

    Hi,
I am researching for a client who wishes to have several students (K-12) using Adobe Captivate course on the same computer. Another constraint is that a course is run from DVD (1+ GB in size) so it's published as standalone application (.exe for Windows, .app for Mac). Quick questions:
Can a course have an action to parse command line parameters? I haven't found that.
Explanation: this would be used to simply parse a name and e-mail address (if possible) and last module passed to a course player. Resuming could be disabled (there is an answer how to do that in the forum) or overridden but the learner should be transferred to a slide to resume based on the calling parameter (and not the default resuming - there will be several users so each must resume from the last passed module slide).
Can a progress of the current learner using the course be saved to a database (no LMS, e-mail, Acrobat.com etc)?
Explanation: this is needed for the current learner and for each one separately. I guess I already have a solution in mind (custom application, having small internal web server like Mongoose, with a script that replaces internalServerReporting.php and saves the data to a internal database, SQLite). But for this to work spawning a course with command line parameters and course itself reading these parameters would need to work.
If there is a (better) solution for the above, please reply. The goal is have minimal changes on the course e.g. if there are command line parameters, then parse them and do something (mark modules passed, open appropriate next slide). If parameters are not given/recognized, do nothing (so the course would still work on computers used by one learner only, including resuming etc).
My opinion is that this should also be one-way as much as possible. E.g. additional application handles user name, e-mail and current progress and spawns Captivate course. The published course itself should not depend on the application like reading progress from a text file (though an URL call could return current progress from an application for the same user name). So ideally only changes to use internal server publishing to save current progress and adding a logic to check parameters at start would be applied to a course.
    Waiting for your smart answers.
    Matt

DVDs, when finalized, are read-only... so unless you are considering to do an Install of the course from the DVD to the machine, you're not going to be able to write to a database.  A USB stick may be more suitable in this situation.
Command line params are not possible with EXEs unless you create your own EXE wrapper.  If you're going to go through that trouble, you'd be better off creating an Adobe Air application that can run your local web content without security restrictions and use SQLite or some other backend to store the data.
Can the progress be saved?  It depends what you mean by progress.  If you just want to allow the student to resume from the slide where they left off... you can do that with a bit of JavaScript.  However, if you want to ensure that any previous questions answered on a quiz were also resumed and intact from the previous session... not possible without an LMS.
Why not run a Moodle installation via a USB stick and you can have a full featured LMS with a database and ability to resume a previous session?
    http://docs.moodle.org/19/en/Installation_guide_-_Moodle_for_Windows_on_a_USB_Memory_Stick
    Just some things to consider...

  • Debugging with command line flex 3?

I am using Flex 3 from the command line and have downloaded the debugger Flash Player.  I get the debugging option on the context menu in the browser when I run my .swf but it is greyed out.  I do not seem to have any swf files with -debug in the file name.  I am using Mac OS X (Snow Leopard).
    Can anyone assist please?

Comparing Visual C++ and Flex is apples and oranges.
For one thing, the heritage of the two tools is different.
The lineage of Visual C++ goes back before it was even called
that, to Microsoft's C, released in the MS-DOS 2.0 days. And, C and
C++ come out of the Unix tradition, also a heavy command line
environment. The first version of "Visual" C++ was released after
Windows 3.1 came out. By that time, the Microsoft C/C++ product
line had 9 years of history behind it, C++ 13 years, and C two
decades! This long heritage of command line use still shows in
Visual C++ 2008: observe how often you see command line switches
    mentioned in the project settings.
The heritage of Flex is Flash. They're essentially going the
other direction: starting with a purely graphical tool, and adding
pieces to it to mollify the code monkeys.
Another factor is that Flex is young. One could argue that
its history doesn't even begin properly until Flex 2.0 (2006), when
the price dropped down out of the stratosphere, spurring adoption.
It needs some time to grow still. This is an advantage as well:
Flex doesn't have as much baggage as (
ahem) other programming environments. As it does grow, it
will have more freedom to explore new spaces than a tool bound to
    old paradigms would.
I have to second the comment on the cost of the IDE. I mean
really, $250 is a problem? That's low enough even for hobbyists. I
don't even see complaining about a CS3 license as sensible. If you
can make a legitimate business case for using MorphShapes, you
should be able to pay for a copy of Flash with the time you save in
creating them vs. writing equivalent code by hand. That one feature
will pay for the tool. But then, maybe you can't justify using the
feature in a business context, so this is all just wankery.

  • What silent install command line option will Adobe change to next?

I just discovered that Adobe has, yet again, changed the command line syntax for doing a silent install of the flash player. Apparently it's now just "-install" to do a silent install. Which makes me wonder, what will they call it next version?
    I have a few theories...
    install_flash_player_11.exe -fuggedaboudit
    install_flash_player_11.exe -BeVewwyBewwyQwiet
    install_flash_player_11.exe /@?-[BR-549]
