Comment Forms? Layers within Tables? Crazy Idea?

Good Day Dear Folk,
I have designed a webpage using tables. I want to be able to
put text in the table with the ability for viewers to scroll within
the table. Layers have the option for scrolling text, correct? So I
would like to put a layer in the table. I like using a table to
center the content of the page. Is there a better way? Also, my
friend wants visitors to be able to sign up for a newsletter and
have the ability to leave comments about the site. I know this
involves forms but I don't know about script writing. I'm more
concerned about the comment form. She would like the comments to
post directly to the page. Any ideas? Please help if you can.

never recommended that you do that. Using Layers as a layout
method is a
very bad practice in general.

Are these PNG files NATIVE FW PNG files? Or did you export
from FW as 8bit
(or 32bit) PNG files? Try using GIF/JPG images instead.

Crazy? No. It's needs like this that drive you to learn. Such
a
capability would require server-side scripting and database
access. You can
try some 'canned' approaches by Googling for 'guestbook' and
see what you
find....

Adobe Interactive - Problem Updating Form Fields within tables

I am working with Interactive forms. My scenario is I download the form, update, upload to the Web and then submit to the backend, I am basically use a blend of the tutorials available. From a Web Dynpro perspective all is working well.
The problem I am having is in the Form itself.
I have 10 fields which I want the user to update. Fields which are bound at Page Level, work fine. e.g.
<CONTEXT>.<PAGE>.<FIELD>::Change
Data_Source.Page1.Langu::Change
However Fields in a table do not seemed to work properly. e.g.
<CONTEXT>.<PAGE>.<TABLE>.<ROW[x]>.<CELL[y]>.<FIELD>::Change
Data_Source.Page1.tblCusDetails.Row[0].Cell[1].Name
If I perform an update in the form Langu works well, Name does not.
e.g. Page1.Langu.rawValue = "EN" This works OK
Page1.tblCusDetails.Row[0].Cell[1].Name = "Andrew " This does not work.
I got round this issue by searching for the attribute at runtime.
Now (Based on my scenario) I am trying to update my form;
I download the form to the front end. Update and save. When I open the form again only Langu has saved, Name reverts back to <Emtpy>.
My workaround would be to remove all the tables, which I will start now, but I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or if its a bug in the form,?
Can anyone help?

Thank you, for your quick response. To be honest, I went through the tutorial from SAP TechEd, "Creating Interactive Forms in Web Dynpro for JAVA, and it is drving me crazy.
I did create under the Contect actually Value Node:
DataSource and within that two Value Node for PersonalData and TravelData. For PersonalData, the following Value Attribute: CostCenter, Department, Name etc etc........
The properties is already set for the value attributes to string, I tried to change it to init it will not take it?

Need easy to use comments form to post to webpage short-term

I'm going to create a 90th birthday tribute webpage with photos etc about a former teacher. We have a past pupils (alumni) website for a now closed school. The average age of the people who visit is 55+ and have to keep it basic. I have created php forms to email for those who want to sign on to our database, label photos on the site etc. That's about all our audience can handle. The guestbook has captcha and it just confuses many users even though there are detailed instructions on how to post with photo guided tut as well!
So I want to put a form under the BD greeting part where they can enter their greeting and hit submit and not bother with captcha. I don't want them to have to register which means they won't be able to edit their comments if there's mistakes. I'm happy to monitor it daily to weed out any spam, or more likely-- posts with errors or duplicates as it's not going to be around that long.To let people know about the page, we will do a mailing and put the link to the page in the email inviting them to sign the card using the comments form.
The idea is not to make the page public on the site's homepage until a day or two before his birthday which is in about 2 weeks. Then I plan to put an announcement on our homepage as he regularly visits the site and so it will be a surprise. Then he can visit the bd card page himself and see those who have posted their greetings, etc. Also, it will be there for anyone wants to add to the greetings and keep it open for another week. After that I will remove the form and tell people that if they want to add to the greeting, they can email us and we will post their greeting.
Someone in our group said perhaps we should just ask for greetings to be sent back to us in the email sending the link and I put them on the site, but it sort of kills the participation factor...we like people to interact with our site. There are a few we know about who will have to have us do it for them because they are not online, but on our telephone list.
Anyone have advice on how to make this really easy to use for the visitors??? Do I need to worry about script hijackers in this short time-frame? Do I need to use Google webmaster tools to exclude it from the search engine?

Any form processing script you run on your server needs to be secure. Otherwise it's an open invitation to HACKERS and other threats that could compromise your server. On shared hosting environments, many web hosts require you to use their scripts. You may wish to ask your host which scripts they recommend.

How to build a form with multiple tables in oracle application express

Hi everyone,
I have got problem in building a form with multiple tables.I have a main table with (20) columns and this main table is related to the other tables with the primary key-foreign key relation ship.My requirement is i have to build a form which has fields from many tables and all the fields are related to the main table using (ID) column.In that form if i enter ID field i have to get information from differnt tables.
Please help me to solve this (building a form with mutiple tables)

I am no Apex expert, but with a situation as "complex" as yours, have you thought about creating a VIEW that joins these 7/8 tables, placing an INSTEAD OF trigger on that view to do all the business logic in the database, and base your application on the view?
This is the "thick-database" approach that has been gaining momentum of late. The idea is to put your business logic in the database wherever possible, and let the application (Form, Apex, J2EE, whatever) concentrate on UI issues,

Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages

I have a view and i am using this to create a page as follows for insert/update/delete .
(1) create application from scratch
(2) on page 1 using wizard choice "Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages"
(3) Follows the screens and create the 2 page where first page is a report and when i click on edit(in my case) it goes to next page for insert/update/delete.Everything like insert/update/delete works fine .
Now this view has say three columns
(1) element_type_id
(2) element_name
(3) yesnoflag
changing element_name and yesnoflag column is ok but then i need to have element_type_id corresponding to the element_name from some other table.
Question1
How should i get the element_type_id corresponding to the element_name .so when i create a new record it goes to page 2 and i can provide LOV for element_name and enter into yesnoflag, how can i get the element_type_id populated corresponding to the element_name entered.
Question2
Also in my application i have name element_type_id as primary key .I am not sure if thats a good idea or should i make element_name as primary key ?
please help.

hey rui--
by "adjust your html", i simply meant that you should look at your page, think about the html that's being used, and adjust it as necessary to make your data wrap as desired. now that i'm pretty sure i understand your issue, i can tell you the adjustment. you're saying that your form shows your long column "correctly" with data broken up onto separate lines by carriage returns or linefeeds. when you display that same data in your report, those carriage returns ( chr(13) ) and/or linefeeds ( chr(10) ) aren't observed. that's because they don't mean much in regular html. two ways to approach this would be:
a) replace your carriage returns with explicit <br> tags to get the breaks that you want...
select test_id, replace(test_description,chr(13)) test_desc from my_table;
b) wrap your column with <pre> tags to preserve all the original formatting of your data...
select test_id, '<pre>'||test_description||'</pre>' test_desc from my_table;
...and you could, of course, do option B in your report row template if you'd like.

before inserting new user to table SLIKA_USERS_NEW i need to check if the user_name alreay exists in SLIKA_USERS table .
i need to take all his details and move them to the new table , in addition as you can see , i need to complete some details like the USER_ID_NUM,USER_F_NAME,USER_L_NAME.
of curse if this user doesn't exist in the slika_users i need to create him as new user.
i thought about trigger , unfortunately it won't be a good idea since i don't have in table slika_users

another problem is : even if i will manage to overcome the problem of moving data from table slika_users .
to slika_users_new ,
to manage it after the tables will switch won't be easy though.
in a few weeks , the slika_users need to rename to slika_users_old .
and slika_users_new will rename to slika_users,
that is a necessary step because lots of pages in the application , relate to the table slika_users ,
in addition if new user need to create i still need to look if it's exists in the SLIKA_USERS_OLD (after i'll switch between the tables )
please give idea how to overcome those problems

Hello,
Basically it can be done, but you'll need to do it manually. You can create your basic report, and define two link columns, each to the proper form, which will include the desired columns.
The problem I see in this kind of solution is a great risk for data integrity, especially in a multi-user environment. It will take time to update both forms, and in between, the table record will contains inconsistent data – the first columns can contains data updated by the first form, but the rest of the columns will still contains an old data.

Converting layers to table - Mine won't work!

In Dreamweaver I first created a template of my website. Using the template I then wanted to create my very first official home page, called index.htm. This is the problem i've got; when I open a blank white Dreamweaver page i go to 'File > New from Template' and then create my index.htm page based on the template of course. So far so good. Within the index.htm page I am trying to convert layers to table but it won't let me click on the 'convert layers to tables' button because its grayed out. My layers definitely do not overlap because within the layers option I have the 'Prevent layer overlap' box ticked.. The weird thing is that if I were in the template and then tried to 'File > Save As' to create my index.htm page this way, it will let me covert layers to table within the index page, however surely by doing it this way the index page would not be updated with any changes that I make within the template as the index page would not technically be based on the template. I hope this makes sense and was wondering if someone could help me with this?

There is no doctype declared in your pages code.
First you need to open your .dwt template file, switch to code view and change the line below, which is at the start of your pages code:

Pages Tables Doesn't recognize styles for TOC within table.

It seems to me that the answer is to either tables to get the info OUT of the table (i.e. make several large tables into smaller ones and then pull the titles out of the table and change style), or get Pages to recognize style within table. Any ideas how to do either?! Thanksx

Only text in the Text Layer of a Word Processing Template is processed for TOC entries. No amount of manipulating the tables will change this basic behavior.

I need to write a PL/SQL Procedure to Compare Data within Tables in a Database.
For Ex :- There is two tables A and B . A has id as 101 and B has is has 101. I need to comapre the Data . If no match is found within the tables i need to have those table name and column name printed. Please help.

Assuming that you want to compare tables with identical structure here is one query that will give you all the records that exist in TABLE_A but do not in TABLE_B
select 'exist in A but doesn't in B' desc, a.*
from TABLE_A a
MINUS
select 'exist in A but doesn't in B' desc, b.*
from TABLE_B bfrom the other hand if you want to get the oposite result you can transform the query above to
select 'exist in B but doesn't in A' desc, b.*
from TABLE_B b
MINUS
select 'exist in B but doesn't in A' desc, a.*
from TABLE_A afinally, if you want to get all the records that are missing in some of the tables, you can do a UNION of the queries above:
select 'exist in A but doesn't in B' desc, a.*
from TABLE_A a
MINUS
select 'exist in A but doesn't in B' desc, b.*
from TABLE_B b
UNION
select 'exist in B but doesn't in A' desc, b.*
from TABLE_B b
MINUS
select 'exist in B but doesn't in A' desc, a.*
from TABLE_A aNow the question is, which records do you want to print?
Also this query might work quite slow if TABLE_A and TABLE_B are large tables.

What do you suggest me for task "please comment up all database tables"

I have in Oracle 10g database in one schema ca 600 ("business") tables created. Most of those tables don't have comments.
I don't understands most of the tables, and no one does. Can you give me some hints, how i should start to comment those tables?
I just want to put firstly comments to tables, later i will comment columns.
I understand that some tables are with mandatory data to the System, something like table ala "SystemRights" would sound to be with mandatory 3 rows that are needed for System to run up. some tables doesn't contains mandatory data for the System, like ala "UserOptions" which sounds like it contains data that User has inserted for herself, so this data is not important for the System. I could maybe distinguish between tables other way, maybe some other hints are important to clarify the purpose of the table.
Can you suggest something helpful how i should do the commenting of those 600 tables?
If you are amazes that there doesn't exist not much persons who could know the porpouse of the tables, then you shouldn't be amazed, take this as reality.
I won't dig into Java code that uses those tables, i believe there wont be much comments either anyway.

Should i do so:
1. run query to get table listing:

ORDER BY t.Table_Name;2. From table list take one table into attention.
3. Run "select * from" to see data of the table.
4. Now look the data and look the table name and try to figure out what the data represents.
5. Then open table definition in Tool/IDE to see if table contains FK-columns. Open the tables pointing by FK-keys and to light analyzing of them.
6. Now look the data of the table again and figure out the porpouse of the table and write it down as table comment.

How can I store a form name with path and then call form from a table

Is it possible that any form that I built I store that form in some table in DB and then call that form from table, if yes, then how can i get this functionality. I am not very experience in form and do not know if it can be done because i think if it is possible then this can be a good security for application and easy to handle as well.

Groupings - Form on a table or view

Hi
I have a view eg. field_a, field_b, field_c, field_d, field_e, field_f.
I have selected all these columns when creating a page (Form on a table or view).
However I would only be displaying field_d, field_e, field_f. I have selected field_a,field_b and field_c as I require these fields so that I can use them to join to a previous page which is an interactive report. I now need to group by field_a, field_b, field_c.
Is this possible?

You should solve it in your view. Define the GROUP BY in there. Of course you can't update the values in the Forms when using a GROUP by function...

Cancel button on form of type form on a table or view

I am a newbie for apex. I am using 10g. I have created form on table emp(empno , name , salary ) . Form is of type Form on a Table or View.
Cancel & Save(Apply changes) button are not working at all. so I copied process reset page and execute on condition save button click. But still cancel button is not working. applcation has some other forms of type Form with a Report and are working properly. I have wasted 2 days on this problem.

You can do that. If you have the branch to in the same form what you have to do use clear cache for that page. Click on the edit page, click on the cancel button in the left button section. scroll down to bottom and type the page 32 in the Clear cache field. However it is better to have branch to the report page (different page from the form).
