Commit multiple rows of ADF table at once?

Hi All,
I’m using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3 and ADF BC technology. I’ve created jsp which consist of ADF table and submit (commit) button. There is one column editable, where the user can choose from SelectOnechoice component the value Yes OR No. I tried to save all changes in each row at a time, in order to do that I used commit from Operations but the changing in first row is saved. How can I make the commit save all changes at once.

Hi,
a commit is performed on the transaction, not the rows you see on the screen. So you need to make sure that changes get submitted using the autosubmit functionality or by submitting the form before pressing commit

best practices when deleting multiple rows is to do this on the business service, not the view layer for performance reasons. When you selected the rows to delete and press submit, then in a managed bean you access thetable instance (put a reference to a managed bean from the table "binding" property") and call getSeletedRowKeys. In JDeveloper 11g, ADF Faces returns the RowKeySet as a Set of List, where each list conatins the server side row key (e.g. oracle.jbo.Key) if you use ADF BC. Then you create a List (ArrayList) with this keys in it and call a method exposed on the business service (through a method activity in ADF) and pass the list as an argument. On the server side you then access the View Object that holds the data and find the row to delte by the keys in the list

How can I insert more than one row in the same database table on single submit button.
(i am using the ADF , EJB and Toplink for this example.)
EMPLOYEEand DEPARTMENT tables will hold a common coloum deptno
The method I have tried is as follows.
I have created the UI that holds EMPLOYEE(DETAIL) details and a DEPARTMENT(MASTER) table and I have created two separate bean classes which hold the getters and setters for the corresponding tables.
I have created a method in Department bean which will be called when we add the employee details

But this method will fail as I need to create the new employee bean object every time when ever I need to pass.

In the EJB session bean how can I commit multiple EMPLOYEE rows and DEPARTMENT values at once.

The use of &variable in a script is actually syntax for a "substitution variable" in the SQL*Plus tool (other tools may also do the same), not an inherent part of SQL or PL/SQL itself.
Whenever SQL*Plus is given a script it parses through it and if it encounters one of these it prompts for a value. This value is then substituted into the script before the script actually get's sent to the SQL or PL/SQL engine (process) on the database server. Once the script has gone to the database server it executes there and the results are passed back for SQL*Plus to display. However, the SQL and PL/SQL processes on the database server have no way to interface to the client machine, so they themselves cannot prompt for input from the client and you can't expect to prompt inside a loop as you are doing.
What you need is a user interface on the client that can prompt repeatedly for values and then re-send the script, or call a procedure on the database each time. This can be done using shell scripts or dos batch files (depending on your client being unix/dos based) or using a front end application tool such as Java, .NET, Powerbuilder, PHP, Application Express (APEX) etc.

Updating multiple rows of a table at once

Hi All,
I am writing a stored procedure which fills out all columns in a table, say Table A with one query except for one column, say column 'ABC' in that table. I have to load this left out column using a different query that is referring to some other tables. How can I update this column 'ABC' with all its rows of data coming from a different query?

If you post an update with a create table and insert statements it would help... I think you want to update a table with a select from another table using a join... is that correct?

The where clause is only needed if you don't want to update missing customer_ids to null.

Problem to create multiple rows in adf table.

i am using jdev version 11.1.1.5.0. i have facing very strange problem to create row on table.
In my use case i have create row on table under loop statement. so no of rows created based on loop condition. each time on loop we supply diffrenet value for column like subpkgid,sno but row created with same value.

            } i have called this method on a button click so no of row selected on pkglist vo same no of row created. and these row are different pkgid but when i again select some row from pkglist and click on button thease row created with same sno ,subpkgid as first row.

Have you used the debugger and dropped through the code?
Have you checked that opthdr.getRowCount() returns a different value each time?
Using the method isn't optimal as it will iterate over the towards each time. Next you'll get duplicate numbers if more then one user works with the application and end up clicking the button. You should use a sequence for this.

currently I am selecting one row from the table and rendering a region at the top of the table and capturing the user entered data with the following code:

After making all the checks, i commit it.

Now in my new page I am capturing the user input in the table itself like an excel sheet. Suppose there are ten rows in my advanced table on my page, and each row has one editable field. I have one save button at the bottom of the table.
Now on clicking the save button I have to capture the user input, check whether there is any null value and if all the entered data is correct then only I should commit it.
Can you please let me know how we can accomplish that.

Jonas, I've downloaded the sample application from your ADF UIX Editable table tip but have some problems.
I can't even open the emp.table.uix file - errors are:
Parsing error. Unable to parse binding.
javax.servlet.jst.el.ELException:Function ctrl:createSortableHeaderModel was not found.
and
javax.servlet.jst.el.ELException:Function ctrl:getSortOrder was not found.
Also - is there a place in the sample where you define the sample tables? They do not seem to match the standard sample emp table, for instance.
I've just started using JDeveloper and would like to use the solution.

We are using Jdev 11g. After received your response, i went through all of your responses in ADF coner and OTN for the related topics (setting detail row) and got some ideas(Specially, i got your detail coding for moving makeCurrent expression into selection listener method into backing bean, etc ) and was ready for coding this function. But our PM changed their mind and we dont need this function. So, I had to move to another area......

Update row in a table based on join on multiple rows in another table

I am using SQL Server 2005. I have the following update query which is not working as desired.
UPDATE DocPlant
SET DocHistory = DocHistory + CONVERT(VARCHAR(20), PA.ActionDate, 100) + ' - ' + PA.ActionLog + '. '
FROM PlantDoc PD INNER JOIN PlantAction PA on PD.DocID = PA.DocID AND PD.PlantID = PA.PlantID
For each DocID and PlantID in PlantDoc table there are multiple rows in PlantAction table. I would like to concatenate ActionDate and ActionLog information into DocHistory column of DocPlant table. But the above update query is considering only one row from
PlantAction table even though there are multiple rows that match with DocID and PlantID.
DocHistory column is of type NVARCHAR(MAX).
How do I fix my query to achieve what I want ? Thanks for the help.

We do not use the old Sybase UPDATE..FROM.. syntax. Google it and learn how it does not work. We do not use the old Sybase CONVERT() string function. You are still writing 1950's COBOL with string dates instead of temeproal data types.
You also did not post DDL, so we have to guess about everything. Does your boss make you work without DDL? How do you do it?

Focusing a field/column in the new row of adf table

I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0. and UI-Shell Template in Main application and sub applications are added to this master application as ADF library jar files. Application is working fine.
I am trying to focus to make focus on a column in the newly created row in one of the sub application by referring the below link

I created a single application and found that its working
But in my application focus is not working.
When i checked the java script by using FireBug console it is found that comp = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent(‘”+inputId+”‘); is getting as "undefined" , where inputId = table.getClientId(facesCtx) + “:” + rowId + “:” + “it3″; I am getting the exact row id also. When i tried with by passing the table id as input id like inputId = table.getClientId(facesCtx) ; the fire bug console then showing the table id. So its sound strange.
What may be the cause of not able to find the input text it3 by using findComponent ?
Is any body can suggest a solution for this.

Fixed number of rows in ADF table

Can we specify fixed number of rows for ADF table so even no rows displayed it will still show 10 empty rows.

the rangesize property determines how many rows will be displayed and controls paging. If there are no rows to begin with (if I understand the question correctly) rangesize won't have any effect.
