Communicate with cFP 1804 on Ethernet with Microsoft C

I don't want to use LabVIEW or LabWindows to communicate via ethernet or serial to cFP=1804 I want to use Microsoft C C++ 6?

Yeah I know we have programmed the device in LabVIEW/LabWINDOWs  but in this particular case it needs to run in the same project with all the legacy code in MS C\C++ 6 and we need to keep it lean and mean so we prefer just using the FieldPoint DLL in the project as we do with DaqMX.dll  but it seems that doesn't work perhaps due to some kind of data exchange with NI MAX.
We tried using the code that works in LabVIEW and generating a DLL .h and .lib files and calling it from MS C\C++ 6 application but it seems as though it was executing the code in the DLL but not actually communicating with the Field Point modules/controller.
thanks for any help at this point!

  • Can I use to Labview 6.1 with cFP-1804?

I have Labview 6.1, Can I use to it wiht with cFP-1804?

    Hello,
Yes, you can use LabVIEW 6.1 with cFP 1804.  According to:  What Version of the FieldPoint Driver Added Support for the cFP-180x?  Support for the cFP-180x was added in FieldPoint 4.1.2. You must have version 4.1.2 or newer in order to see the network module in MAX and use it in LabVIEW. In your case, it cannot be a newer version because the newer versions don't have support for LabVIEW 6.1.    Check which version of the FieldPoint software is included in the  CD that came with your cFP 1804. In case it is 4.1.2 then you are all set; in case it is 5.0 or a newer one you will have to download version you need.  You can find drivers at ni.com --> Product Support --> Drivers and Updates.  For Product Line select Distributed I/O  FieldPoint.  For Software  select NI-FieldPoint.   For version, you will see v4.1 and then it skips to v5.0.  Try version 4.1.
If it doesn't work. You will have to contact an Application Engineer  in order to get a service number and then we will provide version 4.1.2. Dial the free telephone number according to your country or region. You can find the number at  ni.com.  The number for Mexico is 01 800 010 0793.

  • CFP 1804 stops when second PC plugged into second ethernet card

    Good Morning
Having an issue with two PCs and a CFP 1804.
I currently have a CFP 1804 linked to a PC running a VI, no issue.
I've updated the VI with a series of shared variables that I need to read and respond to from another PC about 20 feet away.
I wanted to connect the two PC's via crossover ethernet cable, but when connected, the CFP crashes (as seen in MAX and the VI crashing).
The two PCs and cfp are on distinct static IPs, but most likely the same subnet. Will this cause the crashing? How can I correct this and still use the shared variables?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Solved!

    Zach;
You were spot on. I added a network switch, and assigned static IPs to the remote PC, Labview Development  PC (host) and the CFP. Thanks! However, I am having issues with deployment of the executable.
I was able to deploy the executable to the remote PC and its bound variables, and it communciiated no issue with the LV PC (host).
Ive tried to deploy the software to the host PC, however,  upon execution, there appears to be no communication between the VI executable and the Shared Variables. When running, the green arrow indicators on the variables are empty (not even red).
When I look at the Distributed System Manager, I can see my host pc, remote pc and the two libraries, but they show them errored and unexecuted.
I have the variable engine, USI, MAX, Runtime 2013 F2, Deployable License, Distributed Sys Manager included as additional installers.
Im at  loss why the variables appear “unlinked” in the executable.
FYI: developed with LV 2013 and all updated drivers as of 25 Oct 2013. Deployed on XP pro.

  • How do I use WINSOCK with VB6 to communicate with a Fieldpoint FP-1600 module ?

I have a Fieldpoint system connected via a FP-1600 ethernet module to our local network. I can use CWDataSocket with Visual Basic 6 (under WinNT 4) to communicate with the fieldpoint hardware via the fieldpoint explorer and OPC server. But if I try to read multiple channels from say an analog input module, only one reading is returned (i.e. a single float).
It would appear that in order to read multiple channel simultaneously, I need to by-pass the OPC server and communicate directly with the FP-1600. The FP100x programmers manual explains what commands to use and what responses to expect etc. There are also exampls on the NI web site using the MSComm VB control to co
mmunicate with fieldpoint RS232 comm modules. But can't find anything that specifies how to configure the WINSOCK conection in order to achieve communication with an FP-1600.
If someone could post an example of a VB application that can do this, or explain how I should go about it, I would be very grateful.

    Ben,
The FieldPoint OPC Server will publish only the first element of a multi-channel analog signal. What you should do is use multiple DataSocket connections (URL's), one to each channel to get all the data that you desire. There is no drawback to doing this method (other than needing to code additional connections using the same CWDS object). The information will not be any better or worse synchronized and all the data is independantly time-stamped.
I would not recommend that you try to bypass the OPC Server. The FieldPoint Ethernet modules use a NI ethernet protocol that is proprietary so there is no information or examples on doing direct communcation using winsock.

  • Communicate with LIN device via RS232

    Hi,
We have a project to communicate with a card containing the LIN bus. I seek a solution to communicate directly with the card via the RS232 port. I think use an rs232 adapter and a rs232-LIN transceiver directly to the card. The links below containinformation of material:
    http://www.mikroe.com/eng/downloads/get/1276/max232_manual_v100.pdf
    http://www.mikroe.com/eng/downloads/get/1507/lin_manual_v100.pdf
I want to know if anyone has used this solution before. Do you think this is feasible. Thus, the problem is that Labwindows allows easy implementation of code ofcommunication with the card (functions, examples ...).
Thank you for your opinion about this solution.

    Hello,
Sorry for the delay. Can you describe me your solution. I thought of another alternative. Can I communicate directly using the rs232 port, a LIN  transceiver and a power adapter (rs232 to TTL). Can you tell me what library I should use because I do not know really what is the principle.
    Many thanks

  • My husband's only way to communicate is with ipad.  He now has double-vision.  The icons are too small.  Is Apple planning on accommodating us boomers and handicapped with a larger icons? Zooming doesn't help becuase of limited manual dexterity.  Thanks

My husband's only way to communicate is with ipad.  He now has double-vision.  The icons are too small.  Is Apple planning on accommodating us boomers and handicapped with a larger icons? Zooming doesn't help because it's not a permanent setting and he can't change it too meet his needs because of limited manual dexterity.  I understand and appreciate the desire for consistency, couldn't they make a two or three size option setting. Small, Medium, Large and maybe Xlarge?

Thanks.  Tried it.  The size of icons is great but now the part of the screen is missing.  For example, he likes going into his  music app, yes, it was easier for him to see and select, but once in the app he couldn't see the sides, so he couldn't select song without a double-tap to get it out of zoom.  I will see if I can arrange his pages so that all icons show.  This is a sort of work around.  Larger icons would be a better solution.  My husbands illness makes him akin to a person with ALS, so his ipad is his prized possession.

  • HD 4600 - Can't communicate with monitor via HDMI

Hi, I have recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite S50-B-15U and I'm trying to connect it to my 3 year old AOC monitor
via HDMI (the Toshiba doesn't have a VGA port). However whatever I try I can't get the laptop to communicate with
the monitor. The graphics card in the Toshiba is a HD 4600 with a version 10.18.10.4061 driver.
Someone on another forum suggested that an older version of driver (9.18.10.3165) would cure the problem but when I try and install this on the laptop it keeps saying I have the latest driver and it will not let me change to the older version.
I should add that the laptop communicates fine with my TV via the same HDMI port and cable. Also, the monitor works
fine via VGA to my old tower PC. Any suggestions appreciated

  • Setting IP address on the cFP-1804

    Hello,
I just purchased the cFP-1804. I would like to connect it via Ethernet crossover cable to a PC (that will be running LabVIEW). I have connected the cFP-1804 and the PC. The cFP-1804 and PC both indicate that they are connected (i.e. - the cFP-1804 indicates a green LED under 100mbps and a organish LED for active and the PC indicates that a connection is made at 100mbps as seen on the toolbar). When I open MAX and look under "Remote" heading it does not list the default IP address. I have read through most of the help files and it suggested I right click on "remote" and create new. I did so. However, it asked for the IP address of the cFP-1804, I could not find that information nor could I figure out how to determine it. My best guess was to open the windows network connect and see what it read the IP address to be (but I think it may have given me the PC's IP address). I plugged that IP in but it said it could not connect to that device b/c it is not online.
Does anyone know how to properly congiure the cFP-1804 to be recognized by the host computer (i.e.-determine the IP address). I know that in order for the cFP-1804 to appear in MAX the target has to be on the same local subnet as your PC but I am figuring that if they are directly connected they would be. If they are not is there a way to get them on the subnet mask? If not what other methods do I have connected these two devices?
    Thanks.

    Hi rchaoua,
Do you have NI-FieldPoint installed?  Without the FieldPoint driver, MAX
will be unable to detect the cFP-1804.  If you need to install the
FieldPoint driver and are using LabVIEW 7.1, 8.0 or 8.2, you can download it
    from here.
If you need the FieldPoint driver and are using a different version of LabVIEW,
let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you locate the correct version
of the FieldPoint driver to use.
If you are unsure whether you have the FieldPoint driver installed, expand My
System >> Software in MAX, and if the FieldPoint driver is installed you
will see FieldPoint in the software tree.
Additionally, if your computer has firewalls in addition to the Windows
firewall, that may also be blocking the device from being discovered in
MAX.  Make sure all firewalls are turned off as well as any anti-virus
software.  On occasion, I have seen anti-virus software prevent devices
    from being discovered in MAX.
Please let me know if you need additional assistance.

  • Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation compatible with Microsoft Office Powerpoint?

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and need to purchase iWork or Microsoft Office. Does iWork come with a form of powerpoint presentation? If so, is it easy to use and compatible with Microsoft Office presentation software? The latter question is extremely important as we use Microsoft Office primarily at the college.

Yes, Keynote is iWork's PowerPoint equivalent. You can save as a PowerPoint file as well. Very easy to use IMO.
