Communicating between linked classes

I have been struggling with what seems to be simple concept in ActionScript 3.0 - how to communicate between classes. I have a very simple experiment with two movieclips on the stage. They are named YellowBox and RedBox in my library. I have linked the following code to the YellowBox movieclip:
package
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    public class YellowBox extends MovieClip
        public function YellowBox()
            this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, rollOverHandler);
        public function rollOverHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
            this.x = x + 3;
What I would like to do is call the YellowBox() function on my RedBox MovieClip with the following code:
package
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    public class RedBox extends MovieClip
        public function RedBox()
            YellowBox();
I get the following message when I compile: 1136: Incorrect number of arguments.  Expected 1.
Any help explaining the process of communicating between classes would be greatly appreciated. This experiement is just an attempt to gain a greater understand of how classes can access and use each other's methods. Thanks!
Also, any tips on inserting code in a more readable fashion as I have seen in other posts ...

Its a concept called Composition, where your class will use Delegation to yellow class to perform a task.
Key Object Oriented Terms when you are ready to know more about class's and their structures
Composition means that a class has another class in its posession, and delegation is when a class tells another to do something.

  • Communication between classes ???

    Hi
    I am facing problems in establishing communication between java classes.
    My application consists of 4 java classes in following sequence.
    Sockets main() of java UI called JavaUI calls execute class;s func Execute()
    Client --------------------- server---------------------------------------- - java UI appln ------------------------------------------------------------------ execute button.
    When execute button is clicked ANT tools are called and executed. I want some mechanism by which my execute class notifies my java UI application about the successful completion of execution, which in turn tells my server and then server should acknowledge client about the same.
    How can I achieve this back ward communication in java.

    i have written a swing application in which does program does the following.
    1. Server Application (can be deploy on the server)
    a. checks an engine if it is still working by checking the database every minute
    b. if not working sends a string of message to a dedicated port
    2. Client Application()
    a. retrieves messages from the dedicated port
    b. engine has been stopped, client application can start the engine
    maybe you can do the same for your application

  • Email links out of Practice Fusion are not active (as they are in IE), which they say is a problem with "something lost in the communication between the Flash engine and the browser". Does anyone have experience with this?

    This is a medical records system, cloud based. I use Firefox to get into the system, but any browser would work. Other than this problem, Firefox works fine (better than IE, in my opinion).
    Patient demographics include their email, which is hyperlinked and should go right to Outlook (my default email program). This works in IE, but nothing happens on the click when using Firefox as the browser.
    I queried Practice Fusion, which replied: In regards to your previous question about the email hyperlink in the patient information, it looks this is not something that can be fixed on our end right now. It is the web browsers' responsibility to handle these types of links, and there seems to be something lost in the communication between the Flash engine and the browser. I apologize for any inconvenience.
    Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  • Communication between two jvm (client and server)

    Hi ,
       I want to access the UME service of the SAP J2EE Container using a stanalone client application.
    So the client would be running on remote JVM.
    Here we use the JNDI service to communicate between the client and server.
    p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl");
                        p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, providerURL.trim());
                        p.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, securityPrinciple.trim());
                        p.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, securityCredentials.trim());
                        Context ctx = (Context) new InitialContext(p);
                        Object objRef = ctx.lookup(ejbName.trim());
    I want to know that is the communication between the client and server secured in this scenario
    Best Regards
    Manoj

    Okay, the client and server VMs are different implementations of the Hotspot engine. Hotspot basically takes the Java bytecode from your .class files and turns it into native machine instructions at runtime. (The optimizations are actually much more complex than that, but that's the basic concept.)
    The client VM is so named because it's designed to be used for GUI-type applications interacting with the user. It is designed to have a quicker startup and smaller memory footprint.
    The server VM uses more memory and is typically slower at starting up than the client VM, but can often perform ridiculously fast. This of course depends completely on the particular code being run, and you should probably profile and see which VM works better for your application.
    Some interesting optimizations are performed by the 1.4.1 server VM, such as: removal of array-bounds checks (when it determines that the index can't become out of bounds), inlining of methods, and more.

  • Communication between iViews

    How to realize communication between two iViews of the same window but not the same portal page? I tried with using firing portal events but this doesn’t seem to work with Mozilla Firefox. Do you have any other ideas?
    The sending iView is a portal application the receiving iView a Web Dynpro for ABAP application (so I cant use JavaScript, I guess).
    Thanks!

    Hi Mrkvicka,
    To enable communication between iviews you need to use the EPCF .
    You can raise an event in the component of the first iview and define an OnClick event.
    this event you can subscribe from the other iview
    Refer to this link to get a more clear picture
    DropDown Selection and EPCF
    also refer to
    EPCF
    hope this helps,

  • Communication between jsp and abstractportalcomponent

    Hello All
    Communication between jsp and abstractPortalComponent.
    jsp contains one input text field and one submit button.
    when the user clicks on submit button it will call the component and that input value will
    display in same jsp page.
    how this communication will happen?
    Rgrds
    Sri

    Hi Srikanth,
    In the JAVA File,
    OnSubmit Event,
    String inputvalue ;
    InputField myInputField = (InputField) getComponentByName("Input_Field_ID");
    if (myInputField != null) {
                   inputvalue = myInputField.getValueAsDataType().toString();
    request.putValue("textvalue", inputvalue);
    request is IPORTALCOMPONENTREQUEST Object.
    In JSP File,   to retreive the value,
    <%
    String  textstring = (String) ComponentRequest.getValue("textvalue");
    %>
    In PORTALAPP.XML File,
    <component name="component name">
          <component-config>
            <property name="ClassName" value="classname"/>
            <property name="SafetyLevel" value="no_safety"/>
          </component-config>
          <component-profile>
            <property name="tagLib" value="/SERVICE/htmlb/taglib/htmlb.tld"/>
          </component-profile>
        </component>
    Using the code above, You can pass and read values between abstract portal component and Jsp Page.
    Instead of this, I suggest you to use JSPDYNPAGE Component for Data Exchange.

  • Communication between : AP and WLAN controller

    Hi,
    The communication between AP and WLAN Controller is ( Data and Control ) UDP.
    Source port 1024 and destination port 12222 and 12223. Actually which device listen to which port or both should listen as control and data can be generated from both the devices.
    How does the user ( wireless client) traffic is switched - if user traffic is a TCP traffic. It will be sent to WLANC and then WLANC forwards it to respective VLAN or default gateway ( depending upon the destination in the packet ).
    Please explain / share the experience.
    any link on cisco.com
    Thanka in advance
    Subodh

    "the LWAPP Control and Data messages are encapsulated in UDP packets that are carried over the IP network. The only requirement is established IP connectivity between the access points and the WLC. The LWAPP tunnel uses the access point's IP address and the WLC's AP Manager interface IP address as endpoints. The AP Manager interface is explained in further detail in the
    implementation section. On the access point side, both LWAPP Control and Data messages use an ephemeral port that is derived from a hash of the access point MAC address as the UDP port. On the WLC side, LWAPP Data messages always use UDP port 12222. On the WLC side, LWAPP Control messages always use UDP port 12223.
    The mechanics and sequencing of Layer 3 LWAPP are similar to Layer 2 LWAPP except that the packets are carried in UDP packets instead of being encapsulated in Ethernet frames."

  • COMMUNICATION BETWEEN JAVASCRIPT AND JAVA APPLET: US$20 AWARD FOR SOLUTION!

    COMMUNICATION BETWEEN JAVASCRIPT AND JAVA APPLET PROBLEM (Easy Filter Java Applet) -
    US$20 TO ANYONE WHO CAN RESOLVE THE PROBLEM
    To forum visitors:
    I am prepared to pay a standard shareware fee of US$20 to a user who can resolve this technical problem.
    If your advice resolves the problem, I'll forward the payment to your postal address (include your
    address with your reply, and also your email address)
    I am attempting to enable a HTML button (using Javascript's onClick command) to directly input a number into one of the parameter text boxes in the Easy Filter Java applet (ie, enter a new color value number in the text field of the standard Colors Multiplicator Filter interface).
    The applet is Freeware and can be downloaded at: http://www.javazoom.net/applets/easyfilter10/EasyFilter10.html
    (It is a very effective bitmap display and editing utility)
    To achieve this, I am trying to access the part of the applet that defines and sets the textbox. The text box is defined in the .class file by accessing the parameter details in the genericfilter.txt file (accompanies the .class files). I need to access 'private String appletInitialize()' and then one of the 'textFieldParameters' which sets the textbox.
    I understand the basic syntax for referencing the applet:
    document.appletname.setString("An example"). However, accessing the text fields in this applet is more complex!!
    Please can you recommend the correct Javascript syntax to achieve communication with the applet.
    Thank you for your kind assistance.

  • Communication between 2 computers

    Communication between 2 computers
    Hello to everyone!
    I have wrote a JMS program that works wonderful on my computer
    And now I want that this program can communicate between 2 computers
    As the JMS allows.
    I know that I should change the ip configuration or something like this.
    How can I do it?
    Can someone explain it to me or at least give a link to this kind of information
    Thank you
    Ilan

    Hi.
    This depends on the JMS implementation you're using. every product has its own installation instructions. Just read the manual and follow it...

  • Communication between two portlets - Java Portlet JSR168

    Communication between two portlets
    Hi All,
    i want to be question how do communication between two portlets. Exam:
    I have 2 portlets in a portal together: a Menu portlet & a Content portlet, now i want when i click to an link of portlet Menu then my Content portlet will get param from link that.
    i'm develop by Oracle Jdeveloper tool & OracleAS 10g.
    Thank a lot !

    Hello,
    I assume you are not using Weblogic Portal, correct? If you are using Weblogic Portal, you could use events to communicate between two JSR168 portlets, but this only works in Weblogic Portal.
    If you are not using Weblogic Portal, the only way to communicate between two JSR 168 portlets is to put an attribute in the session in one portlet, and retrieve it from the session in the other portlet. For example, to set a value in your Menu portlet, given a javax.portlet.PortletRequest variable "request", and an object you want to send to the content portlet in the variable "menuChoice":
    javax.portlet.PortletSession session = request.getPortletSession(true);
    session.setAttribute("menuChoice", menuChoice, javax.portlet.PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE);
    Then, in your content portlet to retrieve the value of the menuChoice variable you would do this:
    javax.portlet.PortletSession session = request.getPortletSession(true);
    Object menuChoice = session.retAttribute("menuChoice", javax.portlet.PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE);

  • Communication between different JVMs

    Hallo,
    is there a simple way, to exchange data between different java sessions? At the moment I store the needed data to a table and load it in my java procedures when ever I need them.
    But because this data is temporary, it wouldn't really be necessary to store the data. It's just for communication between the different JVMs. Is there an other way to do this, too?
    Thanks, Christian

    Christian, I may have misunderstood your question, but, until java version 1.4, the only way for different JVMs to communicate was via sockets, or secondary storage (the file system -- which includes databases).
    In java version 5.0 (previously version 1.5), there is a new feature known as class data sharing.
    But since you posted to the "Database >> JVM" forum, I can't help thinking that you are referring to different database JVMs. Is that correct? In any case, sockets and secondary storage are your only options there as well.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Communication between ECC and CRM

    Hello,
    I am in phase of showing communication between SAP CRM 5.0 and ECC 6.0.
    I am struggling with finding some simple transactions which are common in both, with which I can show correct connectivity between ECC and CRM.
       I need to save some data from CRM and access the same via transaction within ECC, save some data via ECC and access it via CRM. I already established RFC link between ECC and CRM.
    Probably communication between SD module of ECC with CRM.
    Can you please help me out with this, a clue/correct direction will be of very helpful. Basically I want to know, what transaction I can use for same.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks
    -Vishal

    Hi Glenn,
          I followed all steps in document mentioned above. In the end during execution of transaction I selected appropriate source and destination, when I click start transfer objects, it gets stuck in waiting phase.
    Among those steps I was not able to perform step#10. Creating Subscriptions for OLTP. My ERP is not displaying this option under subscription wizard. Should it be reason for not starting transfer ? I also do not see ERP logon screen when I select transfer.
    My another question is when transfer will complete, where I'll be able to see transferred objects within ERP database ?
    Thanks
    -Vishal

  • Communication between non SAP and SAP

    HI,
    do you have some information about communication between non SAP and ERP (WebAs) SAP System ?
    I would like to receive an xml file or xml IDoc from a Java Plattform (non SAP) into our SAP ERP System as an own defined IDoc.
    remember: we don´t have a converter like XI.
    What about using a proxy (do you have some information/blog how to use that) ?
    What about using a webservice (do you have some information/blog how to use that) ?
    What about storing the xml on the application server (do you have some information/blog how to use that) ?
    How to transform xml to IDoc ?

    Here is a link to connecting MS SQL Server with SAP using Open Hub connection.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd299430(SQL.100).aspx
    This might give you some insight into connecting with Non SAP Systems.
    I have used the information from this link to export data from SAP to MS SQL Server.

  • Communication between JInternalFrame

    Hi, I have a question on the communication between two separate JInternalFrames in the same GUI.
    for example, Jinternalframe1 has a Jbutton (where action Command is already set and is ready to be caught in the actionPerformed() method). When I press the Jbutton in internalframe1, how can I create an Event in Jinternalframe2?
    Thanks in advance.

    if you want to set the background for a button on the an internal frame from the other for example, you can do this :
    public class MyFirstInternalFrame extends JInternalFrame
    public JButton b1 = new JButton(...);
    public MyFirstInternalFrame ()
    b1.addActionListener( new Action.... Performed{
    MySecondInternalFrame.b2.setBackground(Color.blue);}
    public class MySecondInternalFrame extends JInternalFrame
    public static JButton b2= new JButton(...);//must be public & static
    public MySecondInternalFrame ()
    I hope it will help you..
