Communication between desktop applications

Ok here is my dilemma.
I have one desktop application that will collect data and store in a database (among other things). This
application is developed using Java.
Then I will have another application on the same desktop that is going to poll the first application for
different data with some intervalls. This second application will be developed with C# and .NET.
How can i get this working (the easiest way)? I guess i could make the first appliction act as a server and
let the second connect to it through a port and then simply send back information when it receives querries.
However, it should just be internal for the desktop. No outside software should be able to connect to the first
application, so it should not open up a socket public for connections.
Is there someway to make this networking internal for the desktop?

If you are saving the data from application 1 into a database, why not let application 2 read from the database? For example, use sqlite. It has drivers for java and Visual Basic and other languages. See http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/wiki?p=SqliteWrappers. You can use any databse engine that supports the languages you use.

  • Communication between ADF Application and third party tool

    Hi,
    JDev 11.1.1.5.0
    I am a new bee to SOA Suite :). I am looking for a suggestion on below usecase.
    We have Arbortext Editor which is a dynamic publishing tool for creating technical publication. We are planning to develop a UI tool
    using ADF/JDev. As POC, we are able to invoke our ADF application from Arbortext Editor as shown below.
    AccessURL accessURL = new AccessURL();
    String myURL = "http://127.0.0.1:7101/IFS_Object_Selector_1-
    ViewController-context-root/faces/object_selector_main?";
    java.awt.Desktop myNewBrowserDesktop = java.awt.Desktop.getDesktop();
    java.net.URI myNewLocation = new java.net.URI( myURL);
    myNewBrowserDesktop.browse( myNewLocation );
    So, Arbortext is having it's own JVM and can have standalone java program with main method. If we can able to provide communication between our ADF application and Arbortext JVM, that can solve our issue.
    We need to pass some information back to Arbortext editor from ADF application on some action (Button click).
    Can you suggest any clue on this?
    It would be really helpful, if you can provide some pointers for similar usecases.
    Thanks,
    Samba.

    Hi Samba,
    I'd suggest better raise it in he ADF forum.
    However, this should be possible by calling the Arbortext functions on click of ADF form buttons. Or you may send the information to a placeholder (JMS, File, DB etc.) from where Arbortext can pick that information.

  • Data Transfer / Communication between Live Applications

    Gurus,
    I am basically an E-Business Sutie Developer. This is my first experience posting questions in Application and Architecture community.
    Please read the following and let me know if this is the correct thread to post this question also it would be appreciable if you could provide suggestions / solutions for my question.
    Q:
    We are on E-Bus Suite 11.5.9 with custom applications built using Oracle Forms. Recently one of our department decided to buy a custom software to replace one of the application. There are other applications which we built still running in E-Bus Suite. The custom software is based on .NET and SQL Server. We at IT rite now researching how to data transfer between our existing applications and the new software. They both were in different platforms.
    This is a new initiative for us because all these years we use to work on oracle applications and this is the first time where we have to go away from our forte. This could be simple for people with experience in related field but this is challenging for us.
    Your views and suggestions are highly valuable.
    Thank You.
    Karthik.

    Hi,
    Thank You for the reply. Below are the notes from person who already did some of the research. I am not sure whether to go with the below mentioned or to research more...
    Below are the following options to load data from SQL server to Oracle, I read limited on each option. See if something convince you and I will explore more on that option..
    1.     Linked Servers: Linked Servers can be setup on the SQL server instance and then data can be pushed out to the Oracle schema.
    a. Limitation in terms of data type supported by provider/ODBC driver used for creating
    linked servers, Performance good for decent size tables
    b. Advantage: All SLQ based
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188279.aspx
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/35943/How-to-Config-Linked-Servers-in-a-Minute
    2.     Oracle Hetereogeneous services: This is Oracle’s answer to Microsoft’s linked servers. By setting it up,
    this can be used to pull data from SQL server db and load to Oracle.
    Same limitations and advantages as 1.
    http://www.csee.umbc.edu/portal/help/oracle8/server.815/a67784/hs_ch6.htm
    3.     DTS (Data Trnasformation Services) or SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) : Microsoft SQL server 2000 comes
    with DTS and SQL 2005 with SSIS.
    SSIS is robust than DTS for this job and can be used to load data up in the Oracle Schema.
    These tools can be used to provide a real ETL process for data loading.
    4.     Scripting Framework: Scripts can be written to bcp data from a SQL servere db and then use SQL Loader to
    load data to oracle schema
    5.     Third Party tools: A couple of third party tools also provide these options.

  • How to switch between desktop applications?

    Hello Guys,
     I'm not familiar with windows application development but I'm working on a PC Standalone game in which I want user to make payment through my game and for this he/she is directed to paypal which open
    in a browser. Now here I want is that when user make a payment then he should re-directed back to game. But currently user has to manually open the game.
    Please help me to achieve this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    You could open the paypal windows inside the app by using x-ms-webview.
    This enables you to manage all the browser process, close the window, have app focus, ...

  • Communication between 2 application

    I am new to CEP framework and am basically trying to get my CEP application talk to another application(ADF based) hosted on a separate J2EE server. This is all happening on the same box. My underlying application server is Weblogic 11G(11.1.1.4).
    I’m trying to use JMS adapters in CEP framework to accomplish this. Is this the right approach(using JMS adapters) to let 2 applications communicate to each other? Is there another alternative way?
    Appreciate the help here.

    If I have to send events from Oracle Service Bus, which one will be best with low latency? JMS /HTTP Adapter?
    If HTTP pubsub server is used to push events, Can I directly send events from OSB to OCEP?

  • Communicating between Air apps on local network?

    I am trying to build an AIR application that allows communication on a local network only.  Can I use the Local Connection to achieve this or is that only to communicate between apps on a single machine.  The functionality I am trying to achieve is simple check in/out app to let users know when someone is already working in a folder.   I already have the functionality built for this, I just need to be able to broadcast events to another AIR app on a local network.  Can anyone help or shot this down?  Thanks in advance.

    You are right: you can only use LocalConnection for communication between AIR applications (and SWF content in browsers) on a single machine.
    You may want to build a server application that the other AIR applications communicate with via a socket connection.

  • Using clipboard for communication between applications

    I am facing a problem related to clipboard during a remote desktop connection. I have the same application both in a client (Windows 8) and in a server (Windows Server 2012 R2) and the communication between them is made by using clipboard. Before making
    the connection to the server through "Remote Desktop Connection", there is an option related to Clipboard in Local Resource tab which must be checked. I did it and when I run both programs they don't work as expected. They should exchange messages
    between themselves, however some messages are lost during the communitation (between the client and the server). I suppose there must be some kind of configuration I have forgotten to setup during installation of Windows Server 2012 R2. Perhaps something like
    that: http://www.technipages.com/unable-to-copy-and-paste-to-remote-desktop-session. Does anybody know if clipboard option should be set in an additional menu in order to clipboard to work properly in Windows Server 2012 R2? Should the client settings also
    be checked as above? I've seen many possible solutions on the Internet for similar problems like this, but none of them solved it. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
    You can try to disable the “Do not allow clipboard redirection” on both server and client side with administrator permission under Group Policy on below mention path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Device and Resource Redirection
    Hope it helps!

  • Ports required for communication between Web servers and service applications (the default is HTTP)

    We're using SharePoint 2010, I'm the system admin for a SharePoint farm. We enabled SharePoint Search by adding a Search Service APplication. One of the crawl report timer job is failing every 5 minte with the error "Cannot connect to remote server".
    After digging around, we found that the server running the timer job tries to connect to the SearchAdmin.svc on the index server, over HTTPS / port 32844 However, communication over SSL via a non default port is blocked by our firewall.
    According to this article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262849.aspx the default is HTTP for communication
    between web servers. How is it possible that it's trying to connect over SSL?

    Hi,
    Quoted from
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262849.aspx#ServiceApp :
    You can change the protocol and port binding for each service application. On the Service Applications page in Central Administration, select the service application, and then click
    Publish.
    Here is an article for configuring Windows firewall port rules for SharePoint using PowerShell in case you need:

  • Communication between separate ADF Web Applications

    Using 11.1.1.5 of JDeveloper I have two Fusion Web Applications that each have a single "view" task flow. Those task flows will be dropped into regions within a WebCenter Portal application so they behave like portlets. I'd like to have a value from one app passed to the other app and have the second app respond to the change. It seems like it should take about 10 minutes but so far... two weeks without any progress. I'm incredibly frustrated. Does anyone have a simple list of the steps I need to perform to pass parameters between task flows? Please help! All I'm looking for is step 1: set up this, step 2: set up that. I can't believe it's this hard.
    All of the samples I find on line are about inter portlet communication with JSR 286 portlets, WSRP portlet producers or inter-component communication. I've read this too: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2011/11-may/o31adf-352561.html but I haven't been working with JDev and WebCenter for 5 years so it simply doesn't make sense. For example, one piece of sample code looks like this
    public void handleEventStringPayload(String customPayLoad) {
    FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ELContext elctx = fctx.getELContext();
    ExpressionFactory exprFactory =
    fctx.getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
    ValueExpression ve =
    exprFactory.createValueExpression(elctx, "#{backingBeanScope.mirrorPageBean}",
    Object.class);
    MirrorPageBean mirrorPageBean = (MirrorPageBean)ve.getValue(elctx);
    mirrorPageBean.setMirrorValue(customPayLoad);
    AdfFacesContext adfFacesContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    adfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(mirrorPageBean.getMirrorTextField());
    Pretend I don't know the nine layers of technology involved here. Why in the world do I need all of this stuff in this order just to set a parameter... or is that NOT what this is doing? Why are they doing addPartialTarget? What does that do? Why do they have an EventObjectHandler and an EventStringHandler? The article is clearly written for an experienced WebCenter developer and that simply isn't me. If anyone has a resource that shows me how to pass parameters between web apps that actually explains the steps needed and why they need to be taken, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi!.
    To communicate two regions (ADF Task Flows) in a WebCenter Portal Page you have "Contextual Events Framework".
    You can learn it following this Blog entries:
    http://technology.amis.nl/blog/3365/adf-11g-how-events-in-one-region-cause-other-regions-to-refresh
    http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2010/10/contextual-events-framework-and-adf-11g.html

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIVom59Kq2U
    In addition, you can communicate two regions without Contextual Events following this entry:

  • Communication between Applications

    I was wondering would it be possible to communicate (reference Vairables, Method, Functions etc..) between Applications. What I want to do is have my 1st Application return some variables which the 2nd Application will use to construct a Bubble Chart. If this is possible what is the code to reference between the Applications?
    Thanks.

    I made an attempt to try and communicate between 2 .swf files using the LocalConnection, but am not able to get it working. To recap what I was trying to do was:
    1st Application (.swf file) this application after a series of questions are answered I have functions that will calculate the values that will provide the data for the Bubble Chart, my 2nd Application (.swf file).
    Below are my functions that calculate the data for the ArrayCollection to the Bubble Chart. So Curr_Evaluation is what needs to be sent to the 2nd Application.
    public trace("NC is: " +Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkChance); } public function setCurrEvalNI():void { Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkInvestment = finalNetInvest.toFixed(2); trace("NI is: " +Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkInvestment); } public function setCurrEvalNP():void { Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkPotential = finalNetPot.toFixed(2); trace("NP is: " +Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkPotential); } function setCurrEvalNC():void { Curr_Evaluation.getItemAt(0).NetworkChance = finalNetChance.toFixed(2);
    I have a Submit Button on the 1st Application that when clicked I want the data to be sent to the 2nd Application. I have already got a function that handles the click for another purpose as shown below.
    private "Complete with this Process?", "Please confirm:", Alert.YES | Alert.NO, this, submitHandler); } private function submitHandler(evt:CloseEvent):void { if (evt.detail == Alert.YES) { setCurrEvalNP(); setCurrEvalNC(); setCurrEvalNI(); ExternalInterface.call( "SubmitPresentation", "True"); } } function onBtnSubmit(evt:Event): void { Alert.show(On the 2nd Application my code is as shown below
    If anyone can help with putting together with the code that I would need on my 1st and 2nd Application to make the communication between them, it would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Communication problem between air application from swf at browser

    Hi,
    I am trying to communicate adobe air native application from brwser using swf, I check for native application installed or not. If installed then launch and if not then install and launch.

    Hi sinious,
    How could I clean up connection when browser is aborted or lost?
    below you can find the code snippet to check for air application and connection

                                                                if(!m_isPluginsInstalled)
                                                                          airSWF.installApplication(m_url, m_runtimeVersion, m_argsToPass);
                                                                          airSWF.launchApplication(m_installerFileName, m_pubID, m_argsToPass);
                                                                else

                                            break;
    in the above code snippet I pass localConnection for send and recieve as an argument in m_argsToPass.
    the connection names strarts with "_".
    In the air application I I split the event arguments like given below
    argsArray = event.arguments.toString().split(",");
    and then try to establish connection.
    Please suggest, how could I clean the connection on lost/ abort of browser, since then swf object embeded in browser also get lost.

  • Communication between a web app and a desktop app

    Hi,
    I would like to know how i can make a web application communicate with a desktop application (protocols,technologies, patterns).
    And if I'm using a jsp web app and a java se app?
    Indeed, i have a desktop app. which use some information provided by an user via a web app,and the work performed by the desktop app cannot be performed inside a web container.
    Thanks.

    you mean it the other way around I think. You have a desktop app that needs to communicate with a web application.
    There are multiple ways.
    1) use plain old XML combined with URLConnection / HttpClient
    2) use XML-RPC
    3) use SOAP
    and there are more even. You will need to decide for yourself which technology can do what you require.

  • Adobe AIR - is what I need for communication between C++ and Flash?

    Hello,
    We currently have a C++ desktop application running on Windows and Mac. We want to support web-enabled (launching from the web browser) and moving UI into Flash. I am looking for a communication package that can use with VC++ 6.0 and CodeWarrior 8.0 (Xcode later). This communication package will handle messages between C/C++ app (process) and Flash. The communication need to execute fast (no delay).
    I searched online about this and came across LocalConnection class and Adobe AIR but not getting enough info to have an answer. I am hoping posting this message will get more information.
    Thanks,
    -Thanh

    Thanks Kalisto for a kind offer. We are using old compilers, CodeWarrior 8.0 compiler on the Mac and VC++ 6.0 in Windows. It is nice if I can find a package that will work with both compilers (platforms). Since we want to communicate in realtime, AIR is probably a best option to go for Windows. I am still looking for the answer on the Mac side of how to communicate from C++ to Flash. I'll ask for your help on AIR when time come.
    Again, thanks.

  • Use of Shared Variables for data transfer from a RT traget to a desktop application

    Hi,
    I want to adopt the shared variables to share data in an existing distributed application comparable with the T3 Benchmark configuration in this document:
    [1] http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/5B4C3CC1B2AD10BA862570F2007569EF
    The current implementation uses a well tuned solution with RT FIFOs and TCP/IP communication with a desktop-PC which monitors and stores the data.
    The desktop application runs with a much slower execution rate than the TCL. So the TCP/IP packets are used to buffer the data with a package size dependent on the data send rate.
    To use the shared variables instead of this RT FIFO + TCP/IP implementation I need to read the shared vairable buffer at once each time the desktop application reads the shared variable.
    But according to this quotation from [1]:
    "With buffering, you can account for temporary fluctuations between read/write rates of a variable. Readers that occasionally read a variable slower than the writer can miss some updates."
    this seems to be impossible. Am I right?
    Are there any suggestions to circumvent this problem? Or are shared variables not made to share data between unsynchronized processes without data loss?
    Regards Till

    You can use the error-cluster to detect the end of your queue. The erroroutput of the shared variable will return a -2220 Warning, if it reads a value it has read already before. I attached a modified example and saved it for 8.2 I hope you can open it.
