Communication between processes in different ear files

I have two processes that I created in WLI 10. Each process is deployed to the same Weblogic 10 server but they are in different ear files. How can I send messages between the two WLI processes without making a web service call? Im trying to find an efficient way to communicate between the two processes. Since there is alot of overhead with web service calls I am trying to stay away from using web service calls. I would like to use a WLI control but I cant find a control that will communicate with another process outside of an ear file without using web service calls.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks -
John

There are two ways of doing it
1. Have the first WLI process put the message to the queue and have the second WLI process to start by pickin up messages from the queue
2. Generate the wsdl out of the Second Process, create a Process Control and call the second process using the Process Control.
The Choice depends on the frequency of calls and payload. If the frequency and payload is high, it is preferred to use the first approach.

  • Same container, different ear files, remote lookup failing!

I'm having severe problems with my ears! I used to have all my EJBs in one ear file and everything worked hunky dory. Now I have separated out various components into their own ear files as they may be deployed into a separate box and also this eases group development. My problem is that some (most) of the remote lookups don't work. I'm getting a Class cast exception when i use the narrow() method.
I have tried all the methods I can think of now and I'm getting desperate! Initially when all the beans were in the same ear file I used the coded reference for the lookup. This did not work across separate ear files so I replaces the coded reference in the lookup() method to the JNDI name. Now this works for some lookups but not others. Invariably a client application running in the container in a separate ear will work no problem. However a session bean using the same code as the client can not succeed in referencing another bean.
I'm baffled here because the lookup itself appears to succeed (if I but a garbage name in the lookup method it returns "name not found"). The error I'm getting is class cast exception! Occasionally though it does work - by that I mean it works for some inter-ear references but not others ie it's not intermittant.
Can anyone shed some light on the correct/best method to lookup a remote reference to a EJB from an EJB living in a different ear file in the same container?

    Found the problem!

  • Difference between .jar, .war and .ear file

    Hi,
I am pretty new to J2EE technology.
I would like to know what is the difference between .jar, .war and .ear files and how they are deployed on webserver.
    Thanks,

Files with a .jar extension or JAR files, are essentially just a collection of files compressed using the ZIP/ZLIB compression format.
JAR (short for Java Archive) files were introduced in the early days of Java as a means to conveniently package and distribute Java applications and components. Since then, a number of additions to the Java platform have followed suit. The introduction of the EAR file is one such addition.
An EAR (Enterprise Archive) file is a JAR file that contains a J2EE application.
A J2EE application is a group of Web modules that collectively perform as a single entity.
A Web Module is an entity consisting of one or more resources such as HTML files, Java class files, XML files, etc. Web Modules are packaged in Web Archive (WAR) files.
Looking at it from a top-down view, EAR files contain JAR files and WAR files. Packaging resources in WAR files, JAR files and eventually EAR files, makes it easy to reuse and reassemble components as new J2EE applications and distribute them to new environments.
For example, Tomcat deals only with WAR files.
So, in order to auto-deploy a Web application to a Tomcat environment, you must place an application's WAR file in the appropriate directory or use Tomcat's deployment tools to manually deploy the file.
If you already have an EAR file that contains the WAR file, you can extract the WAR file and use it as is. If you do not have the EAR file or the WAR file, you can use any number of compliant tools to create the WAR file. Tomcat is a servlet/JSP container available from the jakarta.apache.org site.

  • Different EAR file size for 2 exactly the same set of source codes

    Hi All,
I have 2 exactly the same sets of source codes for my application that were compiled in 2 different environment (say SIT and UAT; both using the same jdk versions), is it possible that the EAR files after build will be different in size too?
Can you suggest any online reading materials that I can read regarding this?
    Thank you very much
    Eddie

    Hi Arun,
    Thanks for the answer.
I already did a comparison of the 2 application, they are exactly the same (i only copied the source including the jars from PROD to UAT). I also did a comparison between the 2 EAR files generated (exploded the EAR file and compare each of the files), they are the same. My aim actually is to compile the application in Machine1 and deploy it in Machine2, I am just puzzled why the 2 EAR files generated by the 2 machines are different in size. Does it has something to do with the compression and compiling?
    Thanks,
    Eddie

  • Communication between servers on different FIs

Just want to verify communication between UCS servers on same chassis but having active vNICs on different FIs (Diagram attached). I suppose all commuication between server-A & server-B will happen through Layer 2 switch as server-A will generate an ARP request for Server-B, that will be passed over to FI-A and then to L2 switch down to FI-B, where server-B will respond back with it's MAC that will then be passed to Server-A via FI-B to L2 switch to FI-A.I don't expect any traffic between servers A & B be routed via firewall? Is there anything I need to be careful about in this design? Going forward we will have multiple subinterfaces on the firewall for different VLANs and all servers will use Firewall as default gateway.

you may want to look at the throughput of your firewall for server-server traffic in different VLANs. If your L2 switch is 10G but your firewall is only 1G then you could have a potential bottle neck.

  • Pass values between panels in different UI files

    Hi All,
Is there a way to pass values between panels belonging to User Interface files ? Or is it easier to have one .uir and different .c and .h files ?
    Thanks,
    Kanu

I should say that it's not possible for you to trap events from the first popup, and this depends on the basic concept of "popup panel".
When you install a popup panel, all user interaction with existing panels is excluded: all focus it aimed at the popup only, no other user interface event is generated. If you launch another popup from the first one, the second popup prevails over the first one and no event can be generated on the first panel until the second one is closed.
Handling a chain of two popup panels while looping on GetUserEvent can lead to unpredictable situation not so easy to untangle.

  • Data Communication between flash and different applications

Is there a way to communicate between two different
standalone applications, without using a HTTP server ?
for eg: from Flash to JVM

    hi,
I want to communicate between flash exe and director exe
    using local
connection object. Can anybody help me in this, by telling
    the code for it. I
tried a lot using it by different ways but I am not succesful
    in it yet
    Thanx in advance
    ANSWER :
you should make an action script to the animation & etc.
you made in your FLASH by a name as like as this : (I made a pause
    Button & named it gPause);
    on (release) {
    getURL("event:gPause");
and then in youe director file make a MovieScript including
    the following code :
    on startMovie
member("name of member you imported from Flash as swf. file
    ").model("Bip01").bonesplayer.pause()
    end
    on gPause
member("name of member you imported from Flash as swf. file
    ").model("Bip01").bonesplayer.pause()
    end

Scenario is parent mxml file (Within the Application tags) having a text component with a value like "ABC". Child mxml file (within a TitleWindow) having some text input fields. I want to get the value of the parent screen text field value ("ABC") in the Child page when opening a popup window (child) by usingthe below code. Then i can use the parent text field value to any text fied of child component.
    public var popupwindow:IFlexDisplayObject = PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, childmxmlfilename , false);
    Anyone help me,please?

    yes you can

  • How can i implement the communication between processes?

the processes must run in the machine which has small
    memory,no harddisk and tcp/ip protocol.

pipes and or shared memory, much faster than using

  • How to Persis session between two ear files

Can anybody tell me how to persists session between two ear files?
    Please Help its urgent!!
    Rahul

Rahul -- there's nothing as a J2EE spec requirement or even a proprietary feature of OC4J/OracleAS which will enable this.
If you have two different EAR files, then they are two different applications, and each will have their own session which can't be shared amongst each other.
If you have data which needs to be shared across different applications then you could either put it on a shared file system or write it to a database which you can then read from in the other application.
One way to do this is to implement the HttpSessionAttributeListener interface which will be called when object are added/removed/updated from a session, and then make a determination on whether the new object needs to be stored in a common place to facilitate sharing between applications.
This is more likely to be a hackaround and ideally you'd examine why you want to share session state across applications and rearchitect so you don't need to do it -- but if you want to try a solution without a major revisiting of the whole application, then perhaps it's an option.

  • CMR between EJBs in different JARs

    Hi,
how could I manage CMR between EJBs in different JAR-files (different deplyoment descriptors as well) ?
    THX
    Tim

Hi Tim, You should post this question to EJB newsgroup not JNDI.
The answer though is you cannot, please see this documentation,

  • Refering to JNDI name in other EAR file

    Hi, there:
Our team is trying to write a session bean as a factory to serve
other beans. Even the JSP (or other clients) can find the correct
session bean residing on different ear file, the factory can't return
properly when the returning parameter is a java object (it works fine
if we only return int/string/etc). Is there a work-around to make
    these work?
    Thanks,

    Hi Ravi,
Can you please post the error message and stack trace? Also what version of WLS are you
using? The more relevant information you can give me, the more likely I'll be able to
    help you.

  • PAR , JAR ,EAR files

    hello all,
       1. what are  PAR,JAR,EAR  files and list some examples.  what is  their purpose each ?  and also one more question to ask (i.e)
       2. Difference between PAR JAR and EAR file and where is each one used ?

    Hi
PAR - An archive file containing all resources of a portal application.
You can know more about the files in PAR is here
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/e3/fab74247e2b611e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
EAR -Enterprise Archive Files,A file type that contains a Web-based application for companies.
From a technical viewpoint, an EAR file is an archive of MIME type "application/zip" and can be extracted with any pack program. It always contains a file in which all of the components belonging to the archive are described. Further applications are necessary to enable the correct implementation of the applications contained in the archive after extraction.
JAR -Java ARchive. A file type that contains an EJB application developed according to the J2EE standard, or an archive of Java class files.

  • Communication between thread in the same process using file interface.

    Hi,
I am developing  driver and i need to communicate between two thread.
    >can anyone guide me on implementing communication between two thread in the same process using File Interface. First thread will be driver and second will be application.I need to send IOCTL like commands using File interface ie is WriteFile(),ReadFile()
from Host process to driver through file-interface(which run's in driver context).Host process should not be blocked for the duration of the driver to process the command.
    >File-interface will run in driver context and it will be responsible to receive command from application and pass it to the driver.
    what are the complexity introduced?
    >Can anyone also give me the link/reference to get more information on this topic?
    >How to replace IOCTL command's for instance baud _rate change command with a file interface for example with IRP.

    Here  is the detailed query:
Hardware Abstraction Layer will interact with Driver(Both will be running in complete different process) .there is a IOCTL for command and  File interface for read and write.
    My requirement is:
Both should run in the same process so HAL will run as one thread and driver as another thread in the same process .I don't want HAL to wait for completion of request and also i don't want driver to be blocked .
We are planning to use a File Interface for communication between Hardware abstraction layer and Driver
HAL will send the command or read/write operation to a file interface and driver will get the command or read/write request from the File interface
There is a flexibility to change Hardware Abstraction layer and also the Driver
Is it possible to use IOCTL between two thread under same process? if not what other options do we have.
Can we use File interface to  send command (like IOCTL) between two thread?

  • Communication between different JVMs

    Hallo,
is there a simple way, to exchange data between different java sessions? At the moment I store the needed data to a table and load it in my java procedures when ever I need them.
But because this data is temporary, it wouldn't really be necessary to store the data. It's just for communication between the different JVMs. Is there an other way to do this, too?
    Thanks, Christian

Christian, I may have misunderstood your question, but, until java version 1.4, the only way for different JVMs to communicate was via sockets, or secondary storage (the file system -- which includes databases).
In java version 5.0 (previously version 1.5), there is a new feature known as class data sharing.
But since you posted to the "Database >> JVM" forum, I can't help thinking that you are referring to different database JVMs. Is that correct? In any case, sockets and secondary storage are your only options there as well.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.
