Company merger - bgp/ospf networks

Hello Community!
My company recently merged with a small service provider that runs BGP/OSPF within their AS. We run the same protocols internally as well. I'm looking for some direction in merging the two networks. As of now, we have to keep our IP assignments separate and treat each network as it's own entity. I would like to eventually merge the two networks so we have one AS. I'm hoping someone in the community has experience with this type of change and would be able to provide some help/direction. I'm sure redistribution will be used, but i don't know how to start or where??? Any basic guidelines to follow or config examples would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Dealt with a company merger several years ago.  Found VRF and double NAT useful tools.  VRF allowed insertion of company's network onto acquired company's network infrastructure while still keeping them isolated.  Double NAT allow communication between overlapping IP addresses during transition.

  • I am trying to figure out how to merge my AD network account.

I am trying to figure out how to merge my AD network account with my Mac account. The main reason for this is wanting to log into my admin account on the Mac, and have it also log into my network account so I do not have to log into differing accounts depending on wether I am on the network or not. And I am going to be running VMware fusion with windows on top, so having one account would be essential to this.
    Thanks.
P.S. I am brand new to Apple, not by choice. ;-)

Basically I want to link a network account to a local account, so that I always log into the same account, even if I do not have network access....

  • How can I implement a backup 6500 that broadcasts the same OSPF networks?

I feel as though the answer for this is extremely simple, but my routing experience is very minimal. We have a 6500 switch that shares about 10 OSPF networks, which is behind out 7200 router; and we have a spare 6500 we would like to put into place at our second location as a failover. Can I add the same OSPF networks to this second 6500, or will this cause issues since two switches will be broadcasting the same network.
In the case that our core 6500 goes down, i would need the other 6500 to continue broadcasting these networks.

Yes, it's possible for two locations to advertize the same networks, but this implies that both locations can (normally) reach all the hosts on those networks (at either location).  Also, if there's some kind of failure, some hosts (like one location's hosts) often can no longer be reached.  That's normally ok, but what's normally not okay is for hosts on the same network to be partitioned.
Also, when you start to have networks across locations, sometimes there's requirements for hosts to logically migrate to the site that still is advertizing the host's network.
It can all get rather complicated depending on what exactly you're trying to accomplish.

  • Best way to merge 2 different networks/companies in same building

I would like to get some thoughts on best practice regarding joining 2 different networks in the same building.  2 different companys 2 different networks, we are merging. Once networks are joined we will trust the windows domains.
Both networks are using 3750's for core switching. So i would assume running fiber from Company1 core to Company2 core via  trunking and sharing select vlans across the cores would be least expensive and most secure route?
Other ideas or flaws in the idea I have presented?
    Thanks!

Other than the usual subnet and routing issues, stringing trunk fiber between the switches sounds good.
If there are multiple firewalls and ISP's involved, you'll have to pay close attention to the routing topology, or reengineer to reduce the complexity.
If there is overlap in subnet usage, you might want to renumber one side.  Using NAT internally will be an ongoing maintenance headache.

  • Higher-level billing element for the selling company code in your network

    Hi ,
I am getting the error " No wbs element found while substituting wbs element 00074419.at the time of creation of invoice from OBD
I ahve refered note 672929 ,  solution is  "Define a higher-level billing element for the selling company code in your network" but then I odnt ahev anything defined in the network.
Pls guide me how to go about it

    HI,
    - Any of the WBSE which are hierarchically superior to your WBSE "74419" should have the relevant company code.
Check for any such superior WBSE in your structure & assign the company code, in question,  to it. It should be a billing element also.
this is because, while billing system checks for the proper revenue receiver cost object in the particular company code.

  • VLANs in OSPF network?

    Scope of Inquiry:
I've supported heterogeneous networks for merely a decade, but never quite big enough to expose me to Enterprise routing/switching concepts in real-time. I've supported numerous Metro Ethernet hub and spoke topologies, as well as a few racks in a datacenter environment ... however, once again ... no real application of OSPF, EIGRP, etc.
I'm learning some of the fundamental concepts of OSPF, adjacency, LSA types, etc... but one thing that has me tripped up is whether or not/how VLANs would be leveraged in a real-world scenario, in an OSPF environment.
Can anyone kindly give me a very clear and concise explanation/high-level explanation of the contextual application of VLANs in an OSPF network, including whether or not tags would exist in each area, etc. * Please do not pontificate --- that is to overstate a simple explanation with extraneous details that are outside the scope of a basic/real-world explanation. Hope that wasn't too terse, but I'm trying to gain a working knowledge of the protocol and its nuances quickly.
    Thanks!

  • BGP: Customer network announcing error (not advertised)

    Hi to all.
Our company - is small business ISP. We have two BGP upstreams, and some customers who connect with us via BGP. Day ago, our customer opened a case that we don't announce his network to the "global network". I can see, that he announce me his network, and BGP add this prefix to the routing table. But when i open prefix detail - i see that prefix not advertised to any peer.
    Here is sh run :
    router bgp xxx
    bgp router-id xx.xx.xx.xx

Origin IGP, metric 0, localpref 100, valid, external, best
Can somebody help me with this question?

The outputs are very confusing ie.
sh ip bgp neighbors xx.xx.xx.xx received-routes:
Network          Next Hop            Metric LocPrf Weight Path
    *> 0.0.0.0          xx.xx.xx.xx                         0 xxxx xxxx yyyy i
    *> zz.zz.zz.zz/24    xx.xx.xx.xx           0             0 xxxx xxxx i
presumably these are the routes received from the customer ?  If so -
    1) why are you receiving a default from the customer with yyyy in the AS PATH ?
    2) why are there two instances of xxxx in AS PATH for both routes in the AS PATH ?
    also -
sh ip bgp neigh xx.xx.xx.xx adv routes:
Network          Next Hop            Metric LocPrf Weight Path
    *> 0.0.0.0          xx.xx.xx.xx                         0 xxxx xxxx yyyy i
if you are looking at routes advertised upstream why are you looking at advertised routes to the customer ?
It is difficult to say what is happening because you have blanked out all the information.
    Finally you have -
    neighbor yy.yy.yy.yy prefix-list BizTel out
but there is no such prefix list in the config you posted
Can you clarify by answering the above and perhaps explain how this is all setup ie. is x.x.x.x the customer and y.y.y.y your upstream provider.
The more information you can give the more we can help.

  • New (last night) 4s.  at home everything works but at the office, I can't seem to send or receive emails.  Don't know about texts yet.  I manually connected to my company's wi-fi network, have internet access and a good signal.  The phone function works

Just set up my 4s last night - works fine at home but can't get or send email at the office.  Wi-fi connection working and signal is good and telephone and Internet functions working.  Manually set to my company's wi-fi.

Your company has most likely blocked the ports necessary to connect to mail servers outside the corporate network. Shut off WiFi and see if it works. If it does, you'll need to talk to your IT department about it.
Odds are they are not going to change the policy without a valid business reason to do so.

  • Company Merger Prerequisite - SAP MM

    Hi Experts,
Before posing i have check the post regarding this, but not find suitable solution.
We have 2 company codes, now we have to merger both company codes under single company code.
In MM & CIN what will be prerequisites, scenario's & cut over list i have to prepare before go live.
    Please share your valuable experience.

What is the status for you both company code?
Is you work stopped for one company code ?
As we know company code is assigned with purchase organization and plant (From MM side)
Propose these below two option to you client.
Either you have to block one company code and continue with another company code.
Or you have to block these two company codes and create a new company code.
And your work will as per their decision.
If they want to continue with one existing company code, then you have to block other company and continue with one company code.
If they want to create a new company code, then you have to block both company code and create a new company code and you have to set the all assignment from MM side for enterprise structure.

  • Lesson BGP & OSPF path selection in VSS routing environment

Hi, I would like a lesson on how traffic is passed in the following environment:
One 3945 router with interfaces connected to a pair of 4500X switches configured as VSS pair. One link into each of the 4500 running as routed interfaces using separate IP subnets meaning there are two equal cost paths between the router and the 4500X.
We are running a single OSPF area and iBGP between the devices.
I would like to find out, in normal circumstances where both equal cost links are operating normally, how the 4500 selects the path to send a packet to the router.  We would be trying to avoid traffic passing through the VSL but want to know if the system is smart enough to do that.
Is there somebody out there who can tell me if the VSS process will select the path directly to the router or if it cannot be guaranteed to do so.
I also would like to get opinions on whether it is best to create two iBGP neighbour relationships on the link addresses or one relationship between the loopback addresses.
    Thanks
    LP

    Hi,
The OSPF traffic would not pass through the VSL link.  The path would directly go from each 4500 to the 3945 (Equal cost load balancing). I think, the 3900 series supports Etherchannel, if this is the case you can also create a L-3 Portchannel between the VSS and 3945 router.  This way you use one /30 instead of 2 and you still have redundancy.  For BGP, I would do one peering with Loopbacks.

  • XR OS OSPF network command

In IOS, to configure OSPF you had to issue
    network 10.0.0.0 0.63.255.255 area 0
command under router ospf.  I don't see this option in XR OS.  What is the equivalent?
This is the config on ASR9K
    router ospf 10
    log adjacency changes detail
    router-id 192.168.254.13
    auto-cost reference-bandwidth 10000
    area 0.0.0.0
      interface TenGigE0/0/1/0
      interface TenGigE0/0/1/1
      interface TenGigE0/0/1/2

    Hi,
In IOS, OSPF would be enabled on the interfaces whose IP addresses matched the network command, but in XR we configure OSPF differently. Entering the interface name under the area command would enable OSPF on the interface (OSPF routing will occur only when an IP address is configured on the interface).
Looking at your configuration, I believe that OSPF should be enabled for the 3 Tengig interfaces. Take a look at "show ospf interface" to confirm this.
Also, here is more information on configuring OSPF in XR,

  • Changing Number rangeinterval  for position & Persons-During Company Merger

    Dear  Professionals,
    Scenario
Parent Company X, which is a MNC, is in the  process of take over of another company B, which was in the process of implentation of SAP.
Company X want to implement the same number range interval for the company B.
Now consultants who were in the process of implementation of SAP in company B has to align the business process according to company X.
a)Is it possible to change  the interval  for person & position
    Requesting you professional input
    With regards
    Raj

    Raj,
At a high level, yes technically, it is possible to change the number ranges to be same in both systems. But for a meaningful solution, there are several questions that need to be answered -
    1. Will both the companies be on the same landscape after merger/take-over or will it be different
    2. Is one of the companies or both already live with SAP? If so, what are the numbers upto which they have already used?
    Good luck,
    Rajesh K.

  • Merge Time Capsule network with existing WiFi network.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if there was a way to merge the network on from my router with the network made by my Time Capsule. Currently, I have two different networks in my house, which can be annoying to have to choose between them. I have the 2013 2TB Time Capsule and it is connected to my Verizon Fios router through an etherney port. Please let me know if there is a way to do this. Thanks so much.

I am not recommending them, but some users have had success using Ethernet powerline adapters to send the Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in the home.
The theory here is that you already have the wiring in place....you just need the adapters. In practice, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you want to give them a try, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy before you buy.
Your local computer / electronics superstore will have a selection of Ethernet powerline devices.

  • VPLS - Which protocol, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP

    Hi Community,
I am trying to figure out which protocol to use on a flat layer 2 VPLS.
We have a flat layer 2 to connect 10 offices and some other point to point links to connect to other offices. We currently use EIGRP but going forward we want to control the routnig and the path the traffic takes. I was planning on using BGP to peer between the offices using a hub and spoke topology, instead of a full mesh. I know OSFP is better for a layer 2 VPLS as it alows the full lan to be used effectively.
Can anyone suggest why we shouldn't use BGP on a VPLS from a provider?
    Regards
    D.

    Hi Dinesh
In my personal opinion using BGP in a LAN environment will not provide any benefit as it will add to the BGP Session overhead per LAN Node owing to the Full Mesh requirement which is definitely not scalable.OSPF as an IGP is good choice to be run on the LAN in broadcast Mode which will help keep optmial design using DR/BDR.As far as the Routing Control is concerned BGP should be used for external traffic outside OSPF domain and mutually controlled redistribution between the external Routing Protocol and OSPF should be used.
But if we intend to use Hub and Spoke Topology using P2MP Broadcast Ethernet ie VPLS I think this will not be possible to achieve in OSPF Broadcast Mode neither in BGP using IBGP in Hub and Spoke Fashion among the sites because of BGP Split-Horizon Rule nor using dedicated EBGP Sessions between Hub and Spokes because of 3rd Party Next-Hop feature . So in this scenario of using VPLS for any to any communication in L2 Mode between the sites and then considering Hub and Spoke topology will not be possible to achieve either in OSPF or using BGP and also it defies the basic VPLS connectivity taken to connect the diffent sites in P2MP mode.
This is my personal take on this scenario and hope this helps you something in your design considerations.
    Regards
    Varma
