Compare Strings using JSTL

How can I compare strings with JSTL? One string is a stored date and the other is a generated date. My goal is to set the correct date in a dropdown menu with date values (yyyy-MM-dd) by comparing the current date with the stored.

EL is not java. The same rules don't apply. You actually do want to use the equals operator here. It ends up invoking the java .equals method in the end.
To make it explicit:
<c:if test="${status == 'A'}">

and I want to read title id = 1 then, how to parse it, I found tutorials regarding parsing simple xml document but how to parse attributes of a given XML

But both of them either parse a file or data from an input source. I don't think they handle strings.An InputSource can be constructed with a Reader as input. One useful subclass of Reader is StringReader, so you'd use something likeDocument doc = documentBuilder.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(myXMLString)));

Spliting a utf-16 string using jstl

Hey guys, I've been trying to find the best posible method to detect a uft-16 character in a string and then treating it as one character, then reprinting it so that a new string i create has a maximum of 20 characters for example... here's what i have so far:

Simple question - compare Strings with SSIS expression language

SSIS variables - strOne = YES, strTwo = YES. I want to compare strings using ssis expression language (ie inside a variable's expression box, constraint of task flow arrow etc).
Will @strOne == @strTwo be true ? I hope its not like programming languages where you need to do
@strOne.Equals(@strTwo) instead of ==. Also is @strOne == "YES" true ?

([User::strOne] == [User::Strtwo] ? True : False)
The third variable created should be of type boolean if you're using above expression. if its of type int return 0 and 1 instead of False and true

Append string using c tag

Hi,
I've a code like this

the problem is both first name and last name are strings,word wrapping is not done perfectly.
For instance if it is,
"James Gosling"
then it may come like ,
James Gosli
ng
so is it possible to append both the string using jstl?

I think it's caused by the cell column width being too small, not related to the behaviors of jstl tags. You can try it outside of a <td>, or increase the column width.

How come the JRE uses == to compare Strings?

Similar use of == and not .equals(...) is seen in many other swing classes.

Note that the following would be the same String literal because this concatenation would be done at compile-time, not runtime:

How to compare string in a case-insensitive manner using JavaScript?

Now I have a javascript to compare checkbox's value with user's input, but now seems it only can compare case-sensitively, does some one know if there is a function in javascript that it can compare string case-insensitively ?

C:choose for comparing strings

Hi,
I am trying to apply alternate styles to table rows using JSTL. When I am comparing strings it always falls into the 'otherwise' block. I guess I either have a silly error or there is something I am missing. When I output the string with the c:out it is set to the value 'data_row_white', which is what I find confusing as the test should prove true.
I have also tried using the 'eq' operator to compare.
Any help is appreciated.

Using the ternary operator in EL which intercepts on the loop index is a much better/clearer/quickier way to alternate table rows.
Basic example:    <table>

I need some assistance on how to display a Map in JSP using struts or core JSTL. I have a HashMap which has a List of keys and each key maps to a value of an ArrayList.i.e I have an ArrayList of taxCodes and each taxCode maps to a value of taxDetails which is an ArrayList of details for for that particular taxCode. I have some trouble to display each taxCode then display taxDetails for each taxCode. Here is my code below:

Problem while parsing xmlString in jsp using JSTL

HI, I am not able to display data in jsp page that I have stored in string variable in XML form.
I want to print xmlString data in jsp using jstl.
probably i might have to parse it but i don't have idea . Can any one help me PLZ??

Retaining of values in JSP while using JSTL

Dear All,
I have an application using the struts framework, wherein I am facing a problem.
Here goes the problem " In my JSP's I have multiselect, the JSTL tags works fine when all the server side validations are done. But I get a problem when an error(server side validation error) occurs, I have to retain all the multiple values selected in the Multiselect box.
Can anyone suggest me best way to retain the multiple values.
E.g. My multiselect populates 5 values

B
C
D
E
As a end user I select "B, C,E", and a server side validation error occurs I have to keep the values "B, C, E" selected in the above list of 5 values using JSTL

The control I am placing(multi select) has the data type in the form as String[],
The validation error(server side) I was talking about is: I have 5 fields in JSP, in one of the 5 fields I have a title, which is unique in the database, if the end user enters an already existing title, then all the values previously (entered, selected) for rest of the controls should be retained and an error message from application resources is populated about the title duplication.
Here I will show the entered values in text box and also the multi-selects, so using JSTL, I want a way out to retain the previously selected values....
In my JSP for the control I say <input type="select" property="propertyname" multiple="true">
of struts...
