Cannot print Landscape report to PCL printer - Solved

Has anyone been able to print a landscape BIP PDF to a PCL printer?
I am on EBS 11.5.10.2, with BIP 5.6.3, and PASTA 3.0.4.
The first report template I tried creating (Discrete Job Pick List Report) in XML Publisher / BIP happens to have a landscape layout, 11 inches wide by 8.5 inches high.
The report is created successfully as a PDF, but I can't get that PDF to print successfully on my PCL printers - the output is truncated on the right. It looks like it is trying to print the landscape report on portrait paper.
Not sure if that makes sense. It is not rotating the report contents to fit on the paper.
I configured PASTA as instructed in MetaLink:
Note 338990.1 - How To Print XML Publisher PDF Reports Via The Concurrent Manager,
Note 356501.1 - How to Setup Pasta Quickly and Effectively, and
Note 365111.1 - How to Setup Pasta for PCL Base Printers
I submitted a TAR/SR on this and they referred me to
Note 421358.1 - Custom Landscape Reports In PDF Format Print in Portrain Orientation
And basically told me what I was trying to do was not normal, and that I should get a PostScript printer. That's not an option, since all of our printers do PCL, but not all of them do PS.
Has anyone been able to achieve this?
Thanks,
Steve

(changed original subject to add 'Solved')

The SR conversation on this topic ended with "EBS does not have any seeded code or driver that can covert a PDF file to PCL, however. If such a third party tools exists, it can be placed (called) within the preprocessing section of the pasta_pdf.cfg configuration file." The documentation recommends "acroread", but I think this is an obsolete utility, plus it doesn't do PCL.
I could not find a third party tool to convert to PCL in the preprocess section of PASTA, while doing landscape, but I did find a third party tool that can replace the "ntPrintCommand" part of PASTA. It is called "GSPRINT", and it is part of GSview. I am on a Windows platform, so this is perfect for me, since it works with the Windows printer drivers at a bitmap level, and no PCL or PostScript conversion or preprocessing is necessary on my part. It takes the PDF as input directly, and prints it.
Here is the essence of my pasta.cfg file now (named pasta_gsprint_landscape.cfg)
  outputFormat=text
ntPrintCommand=c:\utils\gs\gsview\gsprint.exe -printer "{printername}" -landscapeThe outputFormat=text so that PASTA will not do anything except preprocess and print. I took out the preprocess, so all it does is print using gsprint.
Since this makes pasta pretty much just overhead, I'm going to look into the option of running gsprint directly and taking pasta out of the loop completely.

    Hi,
This sounds like a similar problem that I had (and still having). It was (is) a Bug. Go to metalink.oracle.com and reference this bug#1413754. See if this is your problem as well. My only work around was change the format of the file instead of using character mode I am now using PDF. Which is working fine for me.

  • CR XI landscape report not printing correctly on one particular server

    Post Author: BronxJedi
    CA Forum: General
I have a report that was designed in Crystal XI (11.5.0.313) that is not previewing or printing correctly when the users access it on our production server. The report is designed as a landscape report, for an 8.5x11 size paper; however, when this report is previewed on the production server all of the data is pushed over to the left, as though the computer is trying to cram it all into a portrait-sized layout. Furthermore, when viewing the Document Properties of the report in preview it says that the page size is 11x17!
This report, I should mention, is part of a web application designed in Visual Studio. When users select a report to run the application actually displays the report as a PDF document in an Adobe Reader window. So, when I mention "preview" in this post it is not the Crystal Reports print preview window but rather an Adobe Reader window previewing the report as a PDF document.
None of the other landscape reports in this application are demonstrating this same problem. Also, the report in question previews and prints perfectly fine when it is run on other computers or servers.
Currently, we have eliminated design flaws in the report as a suspect because all of the pertinent properties in the report's design are set properly. We have also eliminated the users' printer settings as the culprit because the problem exists no matter who attempts to print that particular report and no matter what printer is chosen.
Right now we are operating under the assumption that the problem lies within the server (which is a new box that just replaced one which died...the hardware on this new box is different, I am told by our server guy, but everything else was mirrored from the old box); however, we are unsure of what to examine in our attempts to fix it.
The production server is running Win 2003 Server, R2, SP2 and there are no apparent printer drivers installed on the production server. We are using Adobe Reader 8.0 on all machines that can access this report.
If anybody out there has had this same problem or knows of anything else we can check (either on the production server or within the report's design) we'd appreciate it. Why would only this particular report be exhibiting this problem and why on Earth would the Adobe Document Properties think that the page size is 11x17?
    Thank you,
    Sean

Once you find an erroneous report, can the report be re-run over the same data (same parameters, same underlying data records after record selection) and the error duplicated?
Can you dump the data read by Crystal in the Detail section of the report?  (Verify the data is as expected...)
Can you post the stored procedure?  (Please wrap it in  markup to keep it readable.  A sample of both crosstabs wrapped in the markup would be helpful, too.)

  • Cannot print to XPS when report contains sub-reports

I've got a simple .NET app that generates a Crystal Report based on data being pulled from a SQL database. The report itself contains 3 sub-reports.
I've found that I cannot print the complete report to the Microsoft XPS Documet Writer. Whenever I try, I get the following messages after clicking Save. Note that one message consistently occurs:
    Crystal Report Windows Forms Viewer
The operation was canceled by user
    OK
Further testing has uncovered that if i click on any of the sub-reports within the viewer I can print without issue.
    Has anyone seen this before?

    Don,
Thanks for your reply. They are not OnDemad sub-reports, and unfortunately I do not know how to set the log on for each report. However, I do believe I've found the cause of this issue...
The report I'm having problems with is a check report that uses a MICR font. If this particular font is displayed on the main report, either as an object on that main report or on a sub-report, the print to XPS will fail. What's interesting is that if the font is in the sub-report and I print just the sub-report itself, the print completes without error.
I'm not sure whether this is a Crystal error or an issue with the XPS driver. Either way, I believer we will be looking for another font to use. But, it would be helpful to know why this happens.
    Thanks

  • Landscape Report - Need to resize for printing it portrait

I have a financial report that I run often and it was originally designed as a landscape report. I want to reformat this report so that it will work for printing it in portrait. I don't really want to take a bunch of time to redesign this, I just want to resize the whole thing so that it will work to print portrait instead of landscape. I was originally using my printer driver to do this because it had a resize functionality that seemed to work pretty well for this. Now, however, after that printer died, I can't do that anymore with the new printer's driver. Any ideas how this could be EASILY resized for portrait? I have a bunch of fields in this report and it's going to be complicated and time consuming to mess with it much, so I'm wondering if there's some shortcut to do this quickly and easily. I'm using Crystal Reports 9.

Export to PDF format, it should resize your rpeort for you.

  • OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

    TRIED EVERYTHING~
Here it goes: We have a Mac running OSx 10.5.7 and PC with Windows XP, and A Laptop with windows XP. Our Wireless Router is a Lnksis 3-G wireless.
I purchased the HPOJ-6500-e709n yesterday and have setting it up all night.  Tried this on the mac.
At first how I had everything connected.Ethernet Cable to the router, and usb to the printer. Set up went through all phases including fax. Was able to print fine. I was never prompted to disconnect the cables but directions included state you must test the wireless connection. I did and the printer did nothing. I reconnected the ethernet cable and was able to print what was in the que. However not wirelessly as I tried this several times.
Directions lead me to test firewall rules and check them. I added rules for UDP and TCP to allow all coming from the URL given in the network config page I printed from the printer. I also added the mac address to the list of allowed attached devices as I added access control as well. I tested this several times and also added the printer using the url. After I had done all this allowing all ports to connect it was able to allow me to view supply levels for ink and even print diagnostic reports wirelessly through the printer manager but cannot print documents.... WEIRD.
I loaded it each time with the correct driver and did all I can to allow it on all ports. The only thing that I can think of at this juncture is that we have a house system that apparently is running on here that I do not administrate. It really has nothing to do with it but I changed the URLs to start managing at 0.100+ as the rep wanted 1-100 to be used by there system so we are running it at 192.168. 0.101...
    What should I do?
    This question was solved.

OK, there may be something else going on, but try this:
Remove the Ethernet and USB cables
Make sure the radio is on (may not hurt to reboot the router and printer, too)
Delete and add the printer under the Default tab - the one marked with Bonjour
Reboot the computer and try to print.

  • Installed ePrint on Officejet 6700, now cannot print wirelessly

    Greetings,
We have beenprinting wirelessly with our Officejet 6700 for quite some time. This morning the HP Connect/ePrint feature was installed...now we cannot print to the computer wirelessly. I have turned off the ePrint functionality on the printer, shut down and restarted...still not able to print.
Looking for suggestions, or a way to delete the eprint functionality.
    Much obliged...

    Hello Bugaloo911,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear about the Officejet 6700 now being unable to wirelessly since you setup the ePrint portion of the printer. What is the Operating System installed on the computer, Windows or Mac? Also, what happens when you try to print? For example, is there an error or message of any kind on the computer?
Setting up ePrint should not have made any changes to the printers ability to wirelessly print via a computer connection. Does the printer still show a connection to the network? If you are not sure, touch the wireless icon from the printer home screen and then Print Wireless Test Report. If there is no connection, run the Wireless Setup Wizard.
Try running the HP Print and Scan Dr on the computer, if using a Windows computer.
Once the printer is working again on the computer we can look into re-setting up ePrint for you.
    Regards,
    JERENDS

  • Cannot print wirelessly - HP Officejet 6700 Premium

I have had no problem printing wirelessly for over a year.  The last few days, I have been unable to print from Windows 7.  From the printer, the wireless connection looks good and I can print a test page.  I can ping the IP address from my computer and I can print a test page  from the printers web page.  But when I try to print from word, notepad or any other web page, it shows the correct printer and IP address, the print goes into the print queue and disappears.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @howtoprint
I read your post about how you cannot print from programs on your Windows 7 computer however, can print from the embedded web server page.
I would suggest running the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.
    Try printing again afterwards.
If that does not work, try Uninstalling the Printer Software, restarting the computer, and reinstalling the printer.
Good luck, I hope this helps

  • Cannot print wirelessly from MacBook to ENVY 5530 get message printer offline

Cannot print wirelessly from MacBook to ENVY 5530, get error message that "printer is offline"
    Thanks for the help.

    Hey @Geneferg,
Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue. Because your printer shows connected on the Wireless Test Report, I am going to have you run some standard Mac troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve this issue.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
First, it's important to have a nice clean slate to work with. Therefore, I am going to have you remove and uninstall the software and drivers for your HP Envy.
To start, can I please have you click here and run through the steps on how to Reset the Print System for your computer. Please run through the steps on 'Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X v10.5.x or 10.6.x'. This will remove every printer from your computer. However, this does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, if you use other printers on your Mac computer simply ensure that the printer is connected through the USB Cable or network connected and (+) add the printer back in via the Print & Scan window. Do not add your HP Envy back in at this time.
Next, please click here and follow through with the uninstall steps under the 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' dropdown.
Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
Please click here to download the latest drivers for your printer
Once the website opens, select the Download button on the top left
Once the download is complete, please follow any onscreen instructions to reinstall your wireless printer
Once your printer has been successfully reinstalled please test the printing function again to verify if the 'offline' issue has been resolved.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • CANNOT PRINT FROM ADOBE 8.1.2 PDF FILE TO OLIVETTI ANYWAY

Hi I have had this problem before wiht a laserjet printer and cannot remember how I have solved it.
I am on a Macbook pro running leopard OS 10.5.2 and trying to print a standard pdf from Adobe Acrobat Professional Reader 8.1.2 to an olivetti anyway. I have no other probs printing, and can print this same pdf through preview, but the fonts default.
It goes through as if it is printing then in the printer set up it just stops itself and won't print.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I did download new drivers, but the situation gets even more interesting. It is only one file I can't print. I print .pdf files from a particular website quite often. When I started having problems with this one file - I just got stuck there. Well, I went to some of the other "new" pdf files and was able to print those. I still cannot print one particular page. I have tried downloading the file to my hard drive but still could not print. I have decided there is some code in this particular file that my printer cannot compute. I did manage to get it printed in B/W on an HP laser printer. Just is a weird glitch. Thanks for responding.

  • Cannot Print in Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 (XP Pro SP3), but Other Apps Can

I am unable to print PDFs on my workstation unless I drag them from a Windows Explorer session and drop them on an open printer window (Start, Printers and Faxes, double-click on printer to open window). I have Acrobat 9 Professional (ver. 9.4.2) running under Windows XP Pro (SP3). I cannot print a PDF from within Acrobat or from within a browser window. I have done a "repair install" on Acrobat and rebooted. When I try to print from within Acrobat or a browser window, I do not receive any form of error message. There is no indication of any problem. If I have the printer window open window (Start, Printers and Faxes, double-click on printer to open window) and I try to print from Acrobat or a browser, I never see anything appear in the window, even briefly. If I drag a PDF from Windows Explorer and drop it in the printer window, the document name appears briefly in the window and the document prints.
I have double checked my printer settings from within Acrobat to make sure that it is not "printing to file." The correct printer *is* selected.
I've tried printing to different printers in the office. I've even tried printing to the "virtual printer" which is a front-end to our fax server. No dice. If I monitor the printers folder (which lists every printer that my workstation can print to currently), the "documents" column (which shows the number of documents in the queue to be printed) never changes from zero.
The fact that I can drag a PDF from Windows Explorer and drop it on a printer and get it to print really puzzles me, since I thought that this was only possible if either Acrobat Pro (or other paid version) or Acrobat Reader was installed. That is, I thought that Windows XP cannot print a PDF unless some sort of PDF reader (Acrobat, Nitro, etc.) is installed. Then again, I may be mistaken. *IF* indeed Windows XP doesn't know how to print a PDF without help from a PDF reader of some sort (Acrobat Reader, Nitro, etc.), then how is it that I can drag, drop and print, but I can't print from within Acrobat Pro itself? Meanwhile, all other apps print just fine to any given printer.
FYI... this question has languished for two weeks with no solution at experts-exchange.com. I've never stumped them before. I've never waited more than 24 hours for an answer there before, and usually a solution takes just an hour or two. This suggests to me that my situation is quite rare. Can anyone get me on track?

  • Firefox 37.0.1 crashes every time I try to print. Thunderbird cannot print either. IE and other apps have no problem printing.

Firefox 37.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. To try to fix, I have inactivated all addons, then removed all addons, then back leveled Firefox, then uninstalled Thunderbird (as this was an addition around the time this started happening), and deleted and reinstalled the printer driver. Even when I uninstalled Thunderbird and then installed Firefox 37.0.1 I cannot print. With both programs reinstalled now I again cannot print from either. I get "error encountered while printing" with Thunderbird, and a crash with Firefox. I followed all of the advice in the "Fix printing problems in Firefox" article in the knowledge base to no avail. The latest Firefox crash report is bp-1132bb48-c14b-4f20-ab65-8d58e2150415. Looking below, I see that there are installed plugins, but I don't understand how those got there as I completely uninstalled, downloaded, and reinstalled Firefox. I can't find the same issue in the knowledge base and can't fix following printer problem suggestions. Sure would appreciate some help.
I also reset all print related config entries per advice in another support thread. Many of those were MP560 related and had that model name built into the config entry name (my printer is a Canon MP560). I notice now that those entries are missing. I also have no PRINT_PRINTER entry referenced as a config option to reset. It is missing.
Resetting the PRINT.PRINT_PRINTER entry on Thunderbird also did not work and the entry disappeared upon reset. I believe this is what happened with Firefox, too.
I forgot to say that I can print fine from all other programs and browsers.

I didn't see that I could edit the question before "I answered myself." I updated the question.

  • Cannot print from ANY application after upgrade to 10.4.8 !!!

    Hi all,
as it is written in the subject.
Up to yesterday, I had OS 10.3.9, everything ok, could print from any application.
Then I moved to Tiger and to the last version (10.4.8).
And today the "nice" surprise: either from Preview, Texshop, Word, any web browser... I cannot print anymore!! As soon as I go to file/print, the application crashes, any suggestions??
    Thanks a lot

Hmmm. It sounds like a possible problem with the system prior to updating. If you've done this already don't be upset by the suggestion. I'm just trying to cover the bases.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
Download the standalone 10.4.8 Combo Updater (be sure to get the correct version - Intel or PPC - for your Macs. Reinstall the update using the Combo Updater.
As an added precaution I would recommend you first boot into safe mode before doing the above.
There is a shareware utility called Printer Setup Repair (www.macupdate.com) that you can also try. It is sometimes very useful for fixing problems with the printing system.

  • Cannot print duplex with hp laserjet 1536dnf mfp

I am using a HP LaserJet 1536 dnf MFP printer in Windows 8.1 with USB 2 connection.  Cannot print on both sides of sheet because clicking on print properties does not bring up the properties dialog window.  There is a momentary flicker as though it is trying to activate, but no window.  It worked fine until a few days ago and I can't think of any change that might account for this.  Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Marlin1 ,
I understand that you are having issues duplexing, the printer properties aren't opening to make any changes. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
You can always restore your computer back to a earlier time when everything was working properly. It may have been from a Windows Update. How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC on Windows 8.
If you would prefer not to do the System Restore, you can try the following steps provided:
