Comparing 2 XML files..

Here is what I need. I populate the user information on a jsp page from a base XML. User verifies it and if he needs to update it , he updates it and saves . Now I save it to another new XML file with the changes.
Now what I would like to do is to compare both these files and filter out what is updated.
Is there any way I can do this??
Any help is greatly appreicated..
TIA
CK

Now what I would like to do is to compare both these
files and filter out what is updated. What do you mean by "filter out"? If you mean you want to throw away the changes the user made, then just throw away the uploaded file and keep the original.
But probably you didn't mean that. Did you mean that you want to identify the changes and save them, or display them, or something?
Is there any way I can do this??
Any help is greatly appreicated..Comparing two arbitrary XML files is not a trivial exercise. Here's links to a couple of programs that claim to do it:

  • Compare xml file database data

    Hi all,
Just wondering is it possible using jsp to compare the contents of an xml file to a database table if they are similiarly laid out?

Select the type of dataset :)
You have to place the xml file in the location you specified in Admin tab.
You can create a new dataset, type : based on XML file.

  • Compare XML files?

I am testing an application that read a XML file and creates another XML file. In the test I would like to verify that the created XML file is identical to the read XML file. Are there any unit testing packages for Java/eclipse that deals with this kind of problem?

If you know that, then when you get stuck writing the Java code to implement the algorithm, as a more specific question.
If you don't know how to do it NOT in Java, then you need to figure that out before coming here or even thinking about Java.

    Can anybody help me.

You didn't notice there's a "Support" link on that page you referred to? Ask them for the source code. If they won't give it to you, then you are effectively asking us to give you a stolen copy of it. Don't ask for such things on this site.

  • How can I compare the actual and expected values in Unit testing when they are XML files?

I have created a unit test for a method in VS 2008. My expected value and actual value are XMLs. Therefore though the output is same as I expect it gives an error as I am doing string comparison now. How can I compare these 2 XMLs in expected output and
actual output format in Unit Testing?
    mayooran99

In unit test, when you want to validate XML files, you feed them into the class / struct that you want to feed the XML into and compare the values there (You don't just feed it in XMLReader and feed it line by line, right? But if it really is, that's how
you should also test it in unit tests).
In short, how you'd use the XML in your code, that's how you should test it in unit test.

  • Comparing nodes in two xml files

I need help with a flex app i am making. My skill level in flex is pretty much basic, so some of the questions may seem easy but they r not to me
I need an application that will load two external xml files and compare nodes. The xml files are pretty much identical except for the values ofcourse. After that i need to write this data to a new xml file which my flex app will generate. Can anyone plz give me an example code which i can later modify for my own application. You can give me any type of an example with the simplest xml files.
    Thank you in advance

"for in" and "for each in" statements can be used to iterate through the nodes. If the two xml files are of same structure , you can easily compare the node attributes. Here is the link to the livedocs page for looping through xml nodes

  • Compare two XML files: Analysis and Design

    Hi, Java/XML/JDOM experts,
I realised that an open source of Java utility to compare two XML is still missing. So I would like to write one for my JDOM excises.
I plan to do it in three steps:
    1.Define the problem domain.
2.Design the classes to be developed.
    3.Coding
Below is the problem domain. Would you review it and tell me if it is fine?
    Best regards,

    Compare two XML files
    Schema assumption:
The xml files used for the comparison must have the same schema.
    Definition:
    1. Two elements of simple type are said equal if their name and value are identical.
    2. Two elements of complex type are said comparable if their name, attributes are identical.
    3. Two elements of complex type are said equal if they are comparable and their children elements are identical.

    Hi,
    Thanks for reviewing my idea.
The xml files used for the comparison must have the
same schema.Including not having a schema at all? And if they do
have a schema, must they be valid according to the
schema?I will only support schema based xml files. To include a schema is a good practice. So I will valid them agaisnt schema (is this possible with JDOM? I am testing ...)
    >
    2. Two elements of complex type are said comparableif
    their name, attributes are identical.
    3. Two elements of complex type are said equal ifthey
are comparable and their children elements are
identical.Do you plan to require child elements to appear in the
same order for the two documents to be equal? (Note
that XML specifically says that the order of
attributes is not significant.)No. The order is not significant as I use the attributes as the keys to find comparable element counterpart.
Here is the sample code already tested. Any comments are welcome!
The next step is to define the "delta xml schema" that will guide me to store the comparasion results. Do you have any suggestions?
    Regards.

  • Java program to compare 2 XML files

Any snippet to compare 2 XML files?

    Hi,
I also haven't tried it before.
When i create 2 xml same file (content wise, only names different).
And create 2 Document objects which contains these 2 xml files, and when i tried to compare these 2 documents i come to know that these are not same.
Well we have our own xml Database, Tamino. And we have our own API's to access it. TA4J.
So in that also i created XMLObjects and tried to compare it, it tells both are not same.
Well the reason might be this,
in Tamino, while storeing any xml/noxml object it stores under a collection and assigns Docname and doctype and also ini:id (which is different for different intances) .
so when u try to compare these 2 instances , as both has all data , docname, doctype same, but ino:id is different, so says they are not same.
    Hoep this will help u.

  • Compare 2 xml file in background

    Hello,
I want to compare two XML files in background containing data like following:
    <ReportingDocument>
            <CompanyCode>1000</CompanyCode>
            <TransactionDate>2000-01-05</TransactionDate>
            <InvoiceProperties>
                <SupplierInvoiceNumber>000000162000VSTX</SupplierInvoiceNumber>
                <InvoiceNumber>0100000000</InvoiceNumber>
             </InvoiceProperties>
    </ReportingDocument>
As result, i have to receive automatically Email in my outlook inbox like something:
    Test is ok.
    OR
Test is not ok, differences in invoiceNumber,.....
can some one help me ?
    Regards,
    Ouail.

    Ouail,
    1) Read XML file using open dataset (because it's in background)
    2) Download files to program memory
    3) Get the invoice number (example, next 10 chars after <InvoiceNumber>... or between <InvoiceNumber> and </InvoiceNumber> from these 2 files
    4) Check if invoice number isn't char (in case that when initial the next characters are the closing tag).
    5) Compare both invoice values from xml files
    6) Build the text email with the compare detail. "...test is not ok... / .... Teste is ok...."
