Comparing a date value

Is there an easy way to determine if a date value is within the current month?
I usually compare the month and year value of the date to the month and year value of the current date to determine this, but there must be a more elegant way.
Thanks
Frank

This is the only way I can think of...
if month({datefield})+" "+year({datefield})=month(currentdate)+" "+year(currentdate) then "yes" else "no"

  • How to compare the date value with the date datatype column?

    Hi,
    I am executed a query to get output for the particular date in two different database.
    I got output in one db environment, but in the another environment i didnt get the output.
    APP_DECISION_DATE column contains date datatype
    ex:
    SQL> select DECISIONED_STAGE_ID,DECISIONED_STAGE_USER_ID from naap10_application where APP_DECISION_DATE = TO_DATE('23-JAN-07',
    'DD-MON-YY'); 2
    DECISIONED_STAGE_ID DECISIONED_STAG
    2006060106 SYSTEM
    DATABASE - II
    SQL> select DECISIONED_STAGE_ID,DECISIONED_STAGE_USER_ID from naap10_application where APP_DECISION_DATE=
    TO_DATE('31-JAN-2007','DD-MON-RRRR') and application_id=2007010028552;
    no rows selected
    in the same db i got the output while i used the TO_DATE(APP_DECISION_DATE)
    SQL> select DECISIONED_STAGE_ID,DECISIONED_STAGE_USER_ID from naap10_application where TO_DATE(APP_DECISION_DATE)=
    TO_DATE('31-JAN-2007','DD-MON-YYYY') and application_id=2007010028552; 2
    DECISIONED_STAGE_ID DECISIONED_STAG
    2006060113 SYSTEM
    is it necessary to use TO_DATE function while i am using the data datatype column in the WHERE CLAUSE?
    Thanks in advance.
    siva

    Sorry & thanks sathish,
    Now i got the result.
    SQL> select DECISIONED_STAGE_ID,DECISIONED_STAGE_USER_ID from naap10_application where APP_DECISION_DATE BETWEEN TO_DATE ('31.01.2007 00:00:00', 'DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS') AND TO_DATE ('31.01.2007 23:59:59', 'DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    2 and application_id=2007010028552;
    DECISIONED_STAGE_ID DECISIONED_STAG
    2006060113 SYSTEM
    ================================
    But one doubt,
    When i created the column with the date datatype how it gets the time value,
    And in one environment db i got the result but in another environment i dont get,
    Shall i want to change any session status of date?

  • Comparing two Date values in ActionScript - possible to compare whole day values?

    I need to be able to compare the number of whole days between two dates in ActionScript, is this possible?
    I'd like to test if one date is 7 days or less after today, and if so is it one day or less (if it's before today this also counts).
    The workaround I have in place is using the .time part of the date field:
    // Get the diffence between the current date and the due date
    var dateDiff:Date = new Date();
    dateDiff.setTime (dueDate.time - currentDate.time);
    if (dateDiff.time < ( 1 * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000 ))
    return "Date is within 1 day");
    else if (dateDiff.time < ( 7 * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000 ))
    return "Date is within 7 days");
    As I say - this is only a workaround, I'd like a permanent solution to allow me to check the number of whole days between 2 dates. Is this possible?
    Thanks

    I think this is the solution
    var daysDifference:Number = Math.floor((dueDate.time-currentDate.time)/(1000*60*60*24));
    if (daysDifference < 2)
    return new ClassFactory(DataGridRedRenderer);
    else if (daysDifference < 8)
    return new ClassFactory(DataGridOrangeRenderer);
    else
    return new ClassFactory(DefaultGridItemRenderer);

  • Using md5 in a manul tabular form to compare if column value changed

    Version: Application Express 3.2.0.00.27
    Hello,
    I am creating a manul tabular form using apx_item in my select statment that is the source for the query in a report region. I am using a collection. The collection creation statement is:
        apex_collection.create_collection_from_query(
           p_collection_name => 'DELEG_COLL',
           p_query           => 'SELECT authid
                               ,empid empid
                               ,to_char(deldate,''DD-MON-YYYY'') deldate
                               ,delscope delscope
                               ,dellimits dellimits
                               ,subdelrights subdelrights
                               ,to_char(delexpiry,''DD-MON-YYYY'') delexpiry
                               ,to_char(datedelremoved,''DD-MON-YYYY'') datedelremoved
                               ,delremovalcomments delremovalcomments
                               ,delegator delegator
                               ,''O'' original_record
                               ,wwv_flow_item.md5(delscope, dellimits, subdelrights,
                                  to_char(delexpiry,''DD-MON-YYYY'') delexpiry,
                                  to_char(datedelremoved,''DD-MON-YYYY'') datedelremoved,
                                  delremovalcomments, delegator)
                               FROM tbl_delegations
                               where empid = v(''P12_EMPID'')',
           p_generate_md5     => 'YES');The above code is giving me an error in the function
    wwv_flow_item.md5(delscope, dellimits, subdelrights,
                                  to_char(delexpiry,''DD-MON-YYYY'') delexpiry,
                                  to_char(datedelremoved,''DD-MON-YYYY'') datedelremoved,
                                  delremovalcomments, delegator)It doesn't seem to like where I attempt to convert date column delexpiry and datedelremoved to a varchar. I am doing this as in the db they are dates and inorder to using the md5 function to compare if the values have changed and only update rows where the values changed.
    There error that I get is:
    ORA-20104: create_collection_from_query Error:ORA-20104: create_collection_from_query ParseErr:ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis
    In the collection I am trying to store the md5 hash result. I haved all the update and insert logic working expect for date type columns. THose give the above error.
    I thank you ahead of time for your assistance!

    Helen,
    Not sure I fully understand your goal.  We don't use "tasks" at all but if you are looking to have your workflow check certain valus and be able to send email messages to people based on whatever, then you can certainly do that (as long as your Sharepoint
    has the email setup.  We do this for alot of workflow tasks.
    So, in the workflow you can have a blanket statement like what I previously listed:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus  not equals Current Item:Status
        .... do something
    or you can do something like:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus equals "In-Progress"
        .... do something
    Else if Current Item:hiddenStatus  equals "Completed"
        .... do something
    or combine the two and do nested "if" statements.  Then you add an email statement wherever you need it like:
    if Current Item:hiddenStatus  equals "Completed"
       then email "these users"
    To add the email part, just type in "email" on the line where you want to add a statment.  There is only one option to choose from.  That will display the line "then email these users".   The "these users" will be a link.  When you
    click it you will get a popup to add the email info.  We typically will send the email to a user (or users) that are already listed in one of the PeoplePicker fields.  On the email form, you can type in your own text, designate that a value is based
    on a column value (like our PeoplePicker), designate that a value is based on a workflow variable, add a link to the current item, etc.  To get to these options you will click the button to the right of the fields or use the "Add or Change Lookup" button
    in the bottom-left for the text area.  There is alot you can set in the mail.
    Does this help answer your question?

  • Issue with using formatted date value column in order by clause...

    Hi,
    1) Through a function I am listing all the months in a year.
    like JAN-2007, FEB-2007,MAR-2007......
    2) i am comparing these values against a date value column in a table.
    And if there are no values in a particular period it will return a null value (simply to say, i am using an outer join)
    3) The issue.....
    When join both the queries then the order of the dates is not mainted .....
    My requirement is......
    Jan-2007 = 3
    Feb-2007 = 5
    Mar-2007 = null
    etc.....
    should be acheived.
    But I end up in the alphabetical order of the months....
    like
    Apr-2007 = 5
    Aug-2007 = 10
    etc.....
    Can anybody let me know how can i acheive my resultant output to be ordered by the date and not by character.
    When I use the date column in the order by I run into an error....
    saying....
    ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
    Its a kind of urgent...
    Any help is appreciated....
    KK

    When I use a outer join as follows....
    "and upper(to_char(a.task_planned_start_date,'mon-rrrr')) = d.period_name(+)"
    All the null periods are ending at the bottom.It's standard behavoiur.
    Seems, you need to sort by a.task_planned_start_date.

  • How to compare 2 dates in SQL Server 2000 DB using Java?

    How do you compare 2 dates in SQL Server 2000 DB using Java?
    Let's say we have two fields: Date Reported and Target Finish Date.
    Date Reported is 09-10-2004 09:55:55: PM
    Target Finish Date is 09-12-2004 11:59:59: PM
    What i want to happen is i want to convert both dates to days and get the difference of the two.
    can SQL Server 2000 DB do this?

    it doesnt wrk.
    ok here's what i did:
    iv tested a simple code for this case.
    I created a table name tblDate which has 3 columns namely date_ID, date_From (datatype datetime), date_To (datatype datetime).
    I inserted 1 row: date_ID has the value 1, date_From has the value 10/22/2004, and date_To has the value 10/24/2004.
    i run the java code below:
    int days = 0;
              String query = "SELECT date_From, date_To cast(date_From-date_To AS int) AS Diff FROM tblZoo WHERE date_ID = '1'";
              try
                   DBConnect db = new DBConnect();
                   db.openCon();
                   ResultSet rs = db.execute(query);
                   while(rs.next())
                        days = rs.getInt("Diff");
                   db.closeCon();
              catch (Exception ex)
                   System.out.println("Error on Execution: " + ex);
              return days;___________

  • How to get shared date value from subreport to main report

    Hi,
    I need your help in passing the value of a running total that is located in the subreport to the main report. The running total in the subreport is getting the maximum of the Effective Date (which it is type in the database is date) for each group and it is value will change on the change of the sequence no. group. I am printing the value at the group footer which displayed correctly. Now my issue is that how to pass the value from the subreport to the main report as a date. I have created a formula that it is having the code:
    shared datevar ddd := date(0,0,0);
    ddd:={RTotl0}
    The above formula is not compiled and it is first giving me an error at line 1 that date(0,0,0) is not accepted. Then when I removed it, it gave me an error that ddd:= can't have a running total to a datevar.
    So can you please help in getting the value from the subreport and then to pass it to the main report as a formula as I need to include it in other formulas which it compares the dates.
    Thanks

    Hi Mohammed,
    Are you displaying the shared variable on the Main Report's group footer as well?
    Try changing the code to:
    shared datevar ddd := cdate(0,0,0);
    ddd:= date({RTotl0});

  • Report data ( value ... tag) missing in the Webi report retrieved through RestFul Webservice

    I am trying the below URL to get the WEBi report from SAP BO using the Rest Webservice support that is now available.
    http://{serverIP:serverPort}/biprws/raylight/v1/documents/{documentId}
    I am able to get the report but as I compare the same report response when using SAOP Webservice, there seems to be a mismatch in the response. Here is what I see in the SOAP response:
    </td><td c="1" ><cell  ref="1.E.4t" bid="14" h="26" w="231" pad="6,7" sid="-10"><ct >Some arbitrary value</ct><value type="xs:string">Some arbitrary value</value></cell>
    But when I run it through REST, I am missing the <value ..> tag:
    </td><td c="1" ><cell  ref="1.E.4t" bid="14" h="26" w="231" pad="6,7" bt="1" sid="-10"><ct >Some arbitrary value</ct></cell>
    Apart from this right at the start of the xml response, I see some property mismatch as well.
    SOAP has this property extra:
    <property name="output.format.xml.valuemode">yes</property>
    While REST has these property extra:
    <property name="output.format.xml.option.style">1</property>
    <property name="output.format.xml.styledict.fontplatform">html</property>
    <property name="output.format.xml.td.bandinfo">yes</property>
    <property name="source.selected">data</property>
    <property name="xelement.xml.object">yes</property>
    <property name="xelement.xml.object.usemap">yes</property>
    <property name="xelement.xml.object.usersupportedformat">image/png</property>
    I am not sure if:
    the <value ...> tag miss is because of these missing/extra properties or
    current REST support has some issues
    For my application the value tag is a must and I can't do without this, but with REST it seems no way to obtain that.
    Any help or pointer(s) in this regard is appreciated!

    Hello Milind,
    According to our Product Owner Sam Polichouk, the solution should be available for you in 4.1 SP3, which is currently scheduled for release by the end of March 2014 (subject to change).  The product team recommends that you get the raw, unformatted data values from within the Dataset specific call.  This data contains a type to tell the end user what kind of data it is, so you can format it or use it properly.
    The updated documentation for the SDK will be available at SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.1 – SAP Help Portal Page once the Support Pack is publicly released.

  • Compare the current value with the previous value in the same column

    Hi all,
    I have to include a statement in a query which allows to compare the current value of column A with the previous value of column A (same column). from there, I need to add a condition in order to have the expected result.
    Let's take an example to illustrate what I want to achieve:
    I have the following columns in table called 'Charges':
    Ship_id batch_nr Order_nr Price
    SID1111 9997 MD5551 50
    SID1111 9998 MD5552 50
    SID1111 9999 MD5553 50
    SID2222 8887 MD6661 80
    SID2222 8887 MD6662 80
    SID2222 8887 MD6662 80
    SID3333 6666 MD7771 90
    I want to check if the ship_id of row 2,3 (and more if available) is equal to the ship_id of row 1.
    If it is the case, then value 'together with the first batch_nr' in row 2 and 3 under Price column. If not, then keep the original value of Price column
    PLease see below the expected result:
    Ship_id batch_nr Order_nr Price
    SID1111 9997 MD5551 50
    SID1111 9998 MD5552 together with 9997
    SID1111 9999 MD5553 together with 9997
    SID2222 8887 MD6661 80
    SID2222 8887 MD6662 together with 8887
    SID2222 8887 MD6663 together with 8887
    SID3333 6666 MD7771 90
    Thanks in advance for your help, it is really urgent.

    ]That looks like the query you were using before you started this thread.
    Modify it, using the analytic fucntions FIRST_VALUE and LAG, like I showed you.
    I see that you did simplify the problem quite a bit, and it's good that you did that.
    It doesn't matter that your real problem involves joins or GROUP BY. Analytic functions are calculated on the results after all joins and GROUPS BYs are done. Just substitute your real expressions for the simplified ones.
    For example, in your simplified problem, there was a column called order_nr, but I see now that's it's really called o.ordnum. Where the solution I posted earlier says "ORDER BY order_nr", you should say "ORDER BY o.ordnum".
    Here's a less obvious example: in your simplifed problem, there was a column called price, but I see now that it's really SUM (tc1.chrg_amt + tc2.chrg_amt + tc3.chrg_amt). Where the solution I posted earlier says "TO_CHAR (price)", you should say "TO_CHAR (SUM (tc1.chrg_amt + tc2.chrg_amt + tc3.chrg_amt))". (You can't use an alias, like "Total Price", in the same SELECT clasue where it is defined.)
    I removed some columns from the select as they are not relevant for the wanted action like 'adress details or other references'.
    Now here is the result:
    Shipment ID     Order Number     WMS Batch     Freight      Fuel Price Order Total Price
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602649     04641401     110     10 120
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602651     04641402     110     10 120
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602652     04641363     110     10 120
    as you can see, the 3 orders have the same shipment ID.
    The expected result should be shown under column 'Total Price' as follows:
    Shipment ID     Order Number     WMS Batch     Freight      Fuel Price Order Total Price
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602649     04641401     110     10 120
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602651     04641402     110     10 tog with 04641401
    SID0132408     MDK-000014-05602652     04641363     110     10 tog with 04641401Okay, so those are the correct results that I asked for, plus the incorrect results you're getting now. Thanks; extra information doesn't hurt.
    But where is the raw data that you're starting with?
    It looks like you tried to format the code (but not the results) by typing this 1 character:
    before the formatted section and this different character

  • How to compare two dates

    Hi,
    I have two colums(start date &end date) of data type date in my page and both are optional ones.
    I need to have a validation on those date columns,
    End date should not be greater than Start Date.
    This validation should be triggered once i click on Apply button.
    Pseudo Code:
    If (endate>startdate)
    raise form_trigger_failure;
    Can anyone suggest how/where to implement the code, if possible please provide the sample code.
    Thanks,
    Mahesh

    sorry, I was thinking java and not oaf
    there is similar thing thats done in tutorials exercise create page part2
    this is the code snippet from jdev guide...but you may want to go through the chapter before you put this code in your EO file.
    Step 10.2 Add a validateEndDate() method Add the following new method to your EmployeeEOImpl class. /*
    * Verifies that the employee's End Date is valid.
    * Business Rules:
    * This is an optional value which can be updated at any time.
    * Cannot be earlier than sysdate.
    protected void validateEndDate(Date value)
    // If a value has been set, validate it.
    if (value != null)
    OADBTransaction transaction = getOADBTransaction();
    // Note that we want to truncate these values to allow for the possibility
    // that we're trying to set them to be the same day. Calling // dateValue( ) does not include time. Were we to want the time element,
    // we would call timestampValue(). Finally, you cannot compare
    // oracle.jbo.domain.Date objects directly. Instead, convert the value to
    // a long as shown.
    long sysdate = transaction.getCurrentDBDate().dateValue().getTime();
    long endDate = value.dateValue().getTime();
    if (endDate < sysdate)
    throw new OAAttrValException(OAException.TYP_ENTITY_OBJECT,
    getEntityDef().getFullName(), // EO name
    getPrimaryKey(), // EO PK
    "EndDate", // Attribute Name
    value, // Attribute value
    "AK", // Message product short name
    "FWK_TBX_T_END_DATE_PAST"); // Message name
    } // end validateEndDate()

  • How to turn a string into a date value

    Hi All,
    What is the best way to approach a date sorting issue I have?
    A web service that I consume returns a date column in a string
    format. Thus when the user clicks the column to sort a data grid by
    that date value it sorts incorrectly.
    I realize I could put a sort() on the grid or convert the
    data somehow. I am hoping several people can give me what would be
    considered a "best practice" from a code readability and
    performance point of view.
    Thannks in advance for your thoughts on this issue.

    you dont have to convert anything just implement function and
    asign it to Sort object's "compareFunction" property
    The compare function must have the following signature:
    function [name](a:Object, b:Object, fields:Array=null):int
    This function must return the following
    * -1, if a should appear before b in the sorted sequence
    * 0, if a equals b
    * 1, if a should appear after b in the sorted sequence
    inside that function you might need a tmp conversion but
    overall that should be it
    for example (function can look like this :
    if a===b) return 0;
    if(myStringToDateConvertor(a) > myStringToDateConvertor(m)
    ) return 1;
    if(myStringToDateConvertor(a) < myStringToDateConvertor(m)
    ) return -1;
    return 0;
    (remember sortField also has has compareFunction property but
    you dont need that one).

  • How to campare two date values ?

    Hi,
    I want to compare two string values which has date values.
    Here i post my sample code :
    import java.util.*;
    public class Now {
    public static void  main(String arg[]) {
    try{
        String pre_date="";
        Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getDefault());
         String DATE_FORMAT = "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss";
        java.text.SimpleDateFormat sdf =
        new java.text.SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT);
        sdf.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getDefault());
         String sdd= sdf.format(cal.getTime());
         String sysdat = sdd.substring(0,10);
         String pdate = "2007-02-08 18:11:44.0";
         pre_date = pdate.substring(0,10);
         System.out.println("sysdate is   "+sysdat);
         System.out.println("previous date is   "+pre_date);
         if ((pre_date==sysdat)) {
              System.out.println("hai ");
         else{
              System.out.println("welcome ");
        catch(Exception e){
              System.out.println("Error in file "+e.getMessage());
              e.printStackTrace();
    }Here the else part has been executed.
    But both values are same
    Please anybody helpe me how to compare these values in if condition
    Thanks
    MerlinRosina

    if ((pre_date==sysdat)) is wrong
    U need to use pre_date.equals(sysdat)

  • Best Approach to Compare Current Data to New Data in a Record.

    Which is the best approach in comparing current data to new data for every single record before making updates?
    What I have is a table with 5,000 records that need to be updated every week with data from a data feed, but I dont want to update every single record week after week. I want to update only records with different data.
    I can think of these options:
    1) two cursors (one for current data and one for new)
    2) one cursor for new data and one varray for current data
    3) one cursor for new data and a select into for current data.
    Thanks for your help.

    I don't recommend it over merge, but in theory you could use a checksum (OWA_OPT_LOCK.checksum()) on the rows and if they differ then copy the new row into the destination table. Or you might be able to use rowscn to see if things have changed.
    Like I said, I don't know that I 'd take either approach over merge, but they are options.

    Actually, rowscn between 2 tables may not be an option. I know you can turn a rowscn into a time value so if that rowscn is derived from anything but the column values for the row that would foil that approach.

  • Comparing the current value with the previous one in Powershell

    Hi,
    New to scripting and i was wondering how can I compare the current value with the previous value?
    I am having trouble with the loop structure, and I am not sure I am on the right track...
    I am trying to compare the record to next record in the same csv file after import-csv... My code runs fine, but is not giving the right result.
    $FilePath = Get-FileName -initialDirectory "C:\"
    #Testing for null
    If($FilePath)
    $Data = Import-csv -Path $FilePath | Sort-Object BUYER, {[int] $_.PO_NBR}, {[int] $_.LINE_NBR}
    Foreach($fData in $Data)
    $i = $fData
    Foreach($i in $fData)
    if($fData.Buyer -eq $i.Buyer)
    #save all the same buyer name to a new variable
    Write-Host "Same as previous"
    Else
    Write-Host "Variable is null"
    Remove-Item function:\Get-FileName

    Thank you. The Foreach loop is now working properly.
    Can I ask what is the purpose of "-ea 0" in the import-csv? I can't seem to find "-ea" as a parameter for import-csv in help.
    -ea is short for -ErrorAction.
