Comparing ACE to CSS

I'm currently evaluating the ACE module for out enviroment.
May we will take out all our CSS11500 and convert to the ACE Module.
But i have a feq Questins about the Config.
1)
Sometimes i currently use groups for source-nat. I do nat the source-IP in the same VIP as the content rule.
How can i archive this also for the ACE?
I'm missing somthing line "nat client" how it is working on the CSM.
2)
Also i have a general Question about NAT on the ACE.
I have an enviroment where i have many VIPs pointing do my different servers.
If a client is accessing the VIP there is only a destination NAT done by the content rule loadbalancing.
For all Connections which are initiated from the servers i do a NAT/PAT into a group.
"clause 100 permit any nql servernet destination any sourcegroup nat-out"
Can the Ace handle this similar, so that only connections from inside are translated?
Sven

Great, but now i have another question.
It is about Cookies and Stickyness, very complex:
On CSS i can have a cookie like this:
"Cookie: hrz-server1!sessionid=189545484f9u85"
"Cookie: hrz-server2!sessionid=289545484f9u85"
"Cookie: hrz-server6!sessionid=685u4895454u85"
and Search for the prefix "hrz-" searching the cookie String
"server1"
"server2"
"server3"
to determine the right server and end up with a eos Char of "!".
On The Ace, i have to tell, how the cookie is named, but the Name of the cookie itself differs more than tow times. I think the name of thee cookie is
"hrz-server1!sessionid"
"hrz-server2!sessionid"
"hrz-server3!sessionid"
Is this right, that the ACE searchs the name of the cookie, or does it work like the prefix on the css and is not correctly documented?
Any Idea how i can stick the client to the right Server using a cookie like here with the ACE Module?

  • Maximum header size on ACE and CSS

    whats the max size for header that u can allocate on CSS and ACE?

    The CSS limit is in terms of packets...
    501-1(config)# spanning-packets ?
    Integer value(Range: 1-20)
    501-1(config)# spanning-packets
    We can hold max 20 packets per connection.
    So, if you are doing L7 loadbalancing and are looking for a cookie, it better be in the first 20 packets.
    ACE has a limit in buffers per connection and a limit of header size.
    They are controller with a parameter-map
    switch/User2(config-parammap-http)# set header-maxparse-length ?
    <1-65535> Enter max-parse length for header

  • ACE versus CCS.

    Hi all,
    can someone help me what is better to use? We are planning to create Data center with Cat6500 so there is possibility to insert ACE module, but ACE is a quite expensive to CSS.
    On the other side, is it possible to virtualize CSS as ACE?
    BR
    gg

    You should not be comparing ACE module with CSS appliance.
    CSS appliance can be compared with ACE 4710 appliance which is not as expensive as ACE module.Ace module is needed when more throughput is needed ( more than supported by ACE appliance).
    Since there is no active development for CSS its not advisable to deploy CSS in new Data Centers.
    CSS cannot be virtualized.

  • CSS 11500 connections logging

    Greetings.
    How do I send syslog messages about ALL connections to the CSS, with information about which service the connection was assigned to?
    Furthermore, this log would grow rapidly, and it shouldn't overwhelm the internal storage, at best it shouldn't be written there (but other log messages should).
    The software version is 8.20.4.02.

    Hi Dmitriy,
    Yes, the ACE has level-6 log messages for both connections established and torn down. Have a look at the link below for more details on them:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/ace/vA2_3_0/configuration/system/message/guide/messags.html#wp1147852
    Regarding the differences between ACE and CSS and the reasons to migrate, the people from your account team are probably best suited to answer why in your case a migration would be recommended, but, let me give you a couple of general comments.
    For a start, saying that the CSS is EOL is not really accurate. It's still fully supported and bugs are still being fixed, but it's true that we will most likely not see any active development on it because the product is already very old. That by itself is a good reason to start thinking of migrating to ACE instead of growing the CSS setup.
    The ACE is also bringing some improvements from CSS that can justify the migration:
    Higher throughput
    More advanced L7 processing features (header insertion, url parsing...)
    Virtualized setups by the use of contexts

  • ACE 4710- Global Site load-balancing

    Does the 4710 have a feature like global site load balancing like the CSS?
    We have a site that will have 2 ISPs but we don't have our own block of IP addresses to advertise so we would need to use the ISPs IP blocks.  We've had issues in the past advertising one ISPs IP block out another ISP so I was wondering if there was a way we could configure the ACE similar to the way the CSS did global site load balancing.  Basically have the ACE act as a DNS server and respond back with the IP address of whichever ISP we wanted the end user to come in on and use a probe to ping the ISPs remote WAN IP to verify the circuit is passing traffic and resolve the correct IP if it's not.
    Thanks

    ACE does not have DNS server functionality.
    And these methods are not supported on the CSS anymore.
    The solution we offer is to install a Cisco GSS (Global Site Selector) which can interact with the ACE or CSS or CSM to determine which vip is up or down.

  • ACE redirection issue

    Hi,we have our main website https://abc.com and it provides links to users for various applications.If i go to https://abc.com and click the link xyz on it, i get back to main page again and current  connections drops to 0. here my browser should be redirected to https://abc.com/xyz which is not happening. Traffic is getting tunnnled to https://abc.com as seen in logs in http catcher.
    But if i type in https://abc.com/xyz in browser, i go to correct page.
    below  is my configuration. please let me know if any other configuration is  needed, Below config is with 2 links but actual production has many  links.
    I have similar issue for another application where links on  main page can not be accessed. that application works on http  instead  of https.

The ACE is serving clients coming from Internet and CSS is serving my internal clients which connect with http. Is this problem because of communication issue between ACE and CSS?
    Can anybody suggest?

  • Design in dreamweaver

    I am new to this and I am needing to set up a webpage. What
    is the best way to go about designing a page? Do I design
    everything in another program then transfer it in? If so what
    program? OR can I design in Dreamweaver? Also I need to make a
    members login for my page, how do I do that?
    Thanks

    Your question would be more accurate if you reworded it like
    this -
    "Is it a good idea to use a graphics application to write
    your HTML for a
    web page?"
    and the answer to that is unequivocal - NO. It *IS* possible
    to do this,
    but only when you know what you are doing well enough to be
    able to take
    control of both the setup of the graphics program, and its
    resulting HTML
    output. In other words, a function that seems like the new,
    inexperienced
    user's dream come true is a blatant lie.
    The answer you quote from the other forum reveals a shallow
    understanding,
    both of slicing and of CSS page layout, on the part of the
    person giving the
    answer.
    If you read the tutorial I gave you, you will see that the
    authors DO NOT
    use FW to write any HTML. And they *do* all of their HTML
    work in DW.
    That's the best approach in my opinion.

    Good!. We are heading in the right direction.
    After having read the Ten Commandments you can do what I would do (if I were to spoon feed) and that is to compare the modified CSS with the original CSS (knowing that the original CSS works in all browsers) and change that which is not correct.
    If, after that, you still have problems, please come back here and I shall spoon feed.

  • Hardware clustering/load balancing/failover with Tomcat

    Hello forum!
    I recently bought a Cisco 1801, and it sure is capable! Anyhow, I've got a hobby website that is getting a fair bit of traffic - approaching too much for one node to handle and it's time to start thinking about distributing the load.
    I'd like to do a little clustering of server nodes running Apache Geronimo, which is J2EE running atop Apache Tomcat. For the sake of keeping things generic, let's just call it Tomcat because it configures the same way.
    I do not run Apache HTTP Server as a proxy, I only run Tomcat directly connected to the internet. I do this for performance reasons.
    Anyhow, I'm wondering if any of you evil geniuses could suggest a way that I could cluster Tomcat nodes directly using the router to serve as a hardware load balancer and have the whole sticky session thing with failover, etc... All of the documents I find on the subject discuss clustering by way of Apache HTTP with Mod_JK.
    I have already asked this question on the hardware side, and got great information about the capable load balancing features my router sports (but limited compared to Cisco CSS products.)
    Now I'm wondering if anyone has experience taking an open source application server like Geronimo or Tomcat or JBoss and clustering it using hardware load balancing. What kinds of Tomcat configurations, if any, do I need to add for things like sticky sessions and failover? Or, is all that automatic?
    Thanks so much for reading and for any replies. If there is a better forum for my question, please direct me there.
    Cheers,
    Dave Woldrich

    This occurs rarely when the Tomcat process is not able to connect to the database. The database connection problem is an internal cause which manifests externally as missing fields in reports.
    Workaround: Restart the Apache process and the Tomcat process. From the CLI on your CiscoWorks Server, enter the following commands in the specified sequence:
    1. pdterm Apache
    2. pdterm Tomcat
    3. pdexec Tomcat
    4. pdexec Apache

  • Spry bar defaulting to second line in FF

    My spry bar works great in safari and IE, but defaults to a second line in FF. Thinking this might solve the problem, I changeed the spry MenuBarHorizontal.css width both up and down, from 10 as far down as 6 and as high up as 13, and this does nothing except screw up Safari and IE (it seems '10' is the only width that works on Safari and IE). What do I do to get FF to show the menu on one line?

    The original Spry files do work in all modern browsers. Which means that you have changed something, probably within the CSS-file, that has upset the delicate balance.
    Compare the original CSS with the one that you have modified and you may be able to figure out where the problem lies. The 10 commandments may help you out and can be found here http://dwcourse.com/dreamweaver/ten-commandments-spry-menubars.php#one

  • Phone layout not displaying search icon? Responsive HTML RH11

    Hello,
    I'm creating Responsive HTML5 output in RH11. I've done considerable editing of the default theme, changing colors and removing the index page and the links to it (we don't include an index). At some point, the phone layout stopped displaying the "magnifying glass" icon next to the TOC/Glossary icons. If you hover over the spot, the hovering icon does appear. I have tried everything I can think about to fix this problem, but can't figure it out. The regular icon is definitely present in the folder, along with the hover version. The css correctly names the icon. I have looked at the MasterThemeSchema.xml and when I fooled around with that, I got two magnifying glass icons to appear, but not one. I have created another Theme1 layout, where the search icon displays correctly, and compared the main.css and MasterThemeSchema.xml line by line. I've compared the language for the TOC and Glossary icons, which appear correctly, to the search icon, and everything looks fine. I've even started all over and modified the Theme-1 layout from scratch. Can anyone give me other ideas to check to get the icon to appear correctly in the phone layout?
    Thanks,
    Alexandra

    Did you add a background to the search field or change anything about
    the dimensions of the search?
    Do you perhaps have a link to an example output made with the layout? I
    could then take a look and see what is going on. That's easier than
    trying to come up with sensible ideas. Perhaps you can generate an
    example project with the layout (you can export/import them).
         Normally, I use the developer tools in browsers to sniff out what
    is going on in an example output. That's by far the easiest way to find
    out why browsers are not responding the way you expect.
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • DR site

    Hi,
    I have a primary datacenter and am planning to have another datacenter which would be the DR Site. What Cisco products should be used for having a DR Site and how can I implement it.
    Best Regards,
    Rahim

    GSS is just one part of the overall end-to-end solution. Howerver there are many other pieces to the puzzle. Here a just a few:
    -SAN Replication
    (powered by a storage vendor solution like EMC RecoverPoint or HP Continuous Access ... either one enabled by a Cisco MDS SAN fabric)
    -Load Balancers
    (provides a level of abstraction & virtualization of the application IP address and the server IP address -- thus making failing over an application to another site much easier ... ACE - CSM - CSS)
    -Server Virtualization
    (VMWare or VFrame - provides a level of abstraction and virtualization of the applicaion and OS from the physical server hardware -- thus making failing a server transparent to the application)
    -Optical -- DWDM and CWDM
    (often the best choice for a separate back-end datacenter-to-datacenter connection -- powered by a darkfiber service provider such as Above NET and Cisco ONS)
    -GSS
    (to provide site selection based on health as assesed by your Load Balancers)
    ** See attached diagram I have developed showing the end-to-end multi-datacenter solution **
    I use this diagram when I have discussions with Cisco customers like yourself about how to implement multiple datacenters with the latest technology Cisco has to offer.

  • Cs4 + swfObject = syntax error *sometimes*

    With CS4, on some sites I get a syntax error notice, always
    pointing to the line following the javascript for a swfObject
    insertion. But it only happens on some pages, not all. I have
    compared dtd's, css, and anything else I can think of that might be
    different, with no success in determining what is causing this. The
    page renders fine, but the yellow warning bar is a real annoyance,
    and I'd like to cure it?

    You are getting this syntax error IN CS4, right?

  • Why don't bullets print?

    I'm running RoboHelp 9.0.2.271 and I'm generating output using Adobe AIR browser based help and FlashHelp Pro. I'm sure this is a user error, but I can't figure out why my bullets used to show up when  topics were sent to the printer, but now the bullets are missing when topics are printed. The bullets look fine in the Design view, the RH preview, and in the generated output--they just won't print.
    So far I've:
    Compared the current CSS file with the CSS file from a project with bullets that do print. No discrepancies were readily apparent.
    Copied a bullet icon that was successfully printed (in another project) to the project in question. Edited the styles to reference the test bullet. The test bullet displayed correctly, but still didn't print.
    Does anyone have an idea what might cause such behavior?
    Thanks!

    If I generate browser based AIR help from your project, the bullets print as they should. I cannot test FlashHelp Pro as I do not have RoboHelp Server - you do realise that is a requirement for the Pro versions of OLH?
    It could be a printer problem, have you tested on more than one printer?
    The other thing that could be wrong is that both the list style and the paragraph style specify the bullet image.
    .p-Topic-Text-Bulleted {
        text-align: left;
        font-family: Arial;
        font-size: 10pt;
        margin-top: 3pt;
        margin-bottom: 1pt;
        list-style: url("Graphics/smallblack.gif");
        margin-left: 5pt;
    li.p-Topic-Text-Bulleted {
        margin-top: 3.00pt;
        margin-bottom: 1.00pt;
        text-align: left;
        font-family: Arial;
        font-size: 10pt;
        margin-left: 5pt;
       list-style: url("Graphics/smallblack.gif");
    Only the LI style need specify the image so try deleting that line from the paragraph style.
