Comparing documents with Track Changes on

We're currently using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with Word 2003 (11.8307.8221) SP3.
We create PDFs with Track Changes on (showing).
We're testing and will soon be implementing Acrobat 9.1.3
Here's the issue:
We have a large number (10,000+ documents) created in Word, with Track Changes showing.
We create a PDF using Acrobat 8.1.6.
As long as we continue using Acrobat 8.1.6 we can compare documents with Track Changes on.
However, now we're moving to Acrobat 9.1.3.
We can open these existing documents, and edit them (delete pages, add comments, etc.) but when we try to compare an 8.1.6 file that has Track Changes on, we're getting an error message:
"These dots conform to PDF/A standards and do not allow editing. Please modify PDF/A secumenttings to allow editing and try again."
In Word, our Adobe PDF settings DO NOT HAVE "Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file" checked (for kicks we tried it with this option on and off...same results). We have also DISABLED "Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF."
This is only an issue taking 8.1.6 files into 9.1.3. If we create a PDF in 9.1.3 with Track Changes on, we have no problems. It appears to be a disconnect with 8.1.6 and 9.1.3.
I've gone through the forums and the web, and cannot find this issue anywhere else.
I can also recreate the issue at will.
Anyone out there have any ideas? We can't recreate the old 8.1.6 PDFs in 9.1.3...too many files, too little time, too much trouble.
Thank you!

Open the old pdf in Pro 3.? using file open.  Under "Advanced" select "Preflight", under "PDF/A compliance" select "Remove PDF/A information" and save the pdf.  We had to do this to both old and new pdf's before we could compare without the mentioned error.  It sucks though, having to convert the documents and save them before compare.  Hope this helps!

  • Unable to email Pages 5.0 doc with track changes

In Safari, when trying to attach a Pages doc (Pages 5.0 in Mavericks) with track changes in gmail I get an "Attachment failed" error. In Chrome, I'm able to attach and send the file, but the person I've sent it to is unable to open it. Is anyone experiencing anything similar and/or has discovered a fix?
    Thanks!

No, they get an error when they try to open it, and they do have the same version of Pages. Yes, I did end up having to export it as a temporary solution, and I don't think the track changes stayed. I was wondering if not being able to send Pages files with track changes is a common issue with Pages 5.0. If you try emailing a Pages 5.0 file with track changes, are the recipients able to open it with track changes in Pages?

  • How do I insert one file into another with track changes intact?

I gather that Pages does not have a way to insert a file into a document in the way that Word has insert file. So all we can do is copy an entire document and then paste it into the second document. But when I do that I lose the track changes, except for the odd comment. What is the way around this?

I'm assuming you're wanting to insert the contents of one Pages document into another. I don't have a need to use tracking, so I'm not sure if this applies but I think it should.
You can insert sections from one Pages document into another. Open your files & show thumbnails. Sections have a yellow border around all of the pages in that section. Now click on the page in the thumbnail pane & copy. If the file is more than one page & you only want one, you'll need to insert a section break to separate the pages. Then go to your other file, click in the thumbnail pane & paste. If you want to insert the other content into the middle of a section in the receiving document, you will need to insert section breaks at the point you want to insert. The whole copied page will be pasted in. Repeat with another section. Styles will copy over with the sections but headers & footers will not.

  • Pages files with Track Changes activated can't be zipped!

Hi - I'm collaborating on a document with someone remotely and this feature "Track Changes" is useful for our collaboration.
Its strange, but I can't zip a document that has changes yet to be approved. Is this a bug?

It may be helpful to Press Shift during startup
    which
start up in Safe Boot mode and temporarily disable login items and non-essential kernel extension files .
Several times, R C-R wrote that this helped him to recover a correct behavior.
CAUTION: a normal boot is required after this "Safe" one before usinf iWork's components.

  • Date format when getting a PDF document with RESTful changes

    Hi all,
I have a simple document with a date concatenation (as a string) for DateFrom - DateTo (for example "1/4/2015 - 30/4/2015")
When I am in WebI I can see it in this format, even if I export it to PDF or Excel.
However when I open it using BO BI 4.1 SDK RESTful in PDF or Excel, the date changes to "American format" like this : "4/1/2015 - 4/30/2015"
Is there a way to avoid this, either as an option/parameter in the RESTful call or in the configuration of the BI server?
    Thanks

    Hello Enrique,
Are you using the same user in Webi vs REST? I ask because the locale used is the PVL (prefered viewing locale) one.
You can override the locale using a http header : X-SAP-PVL. But, you have to be very careful because you have to set the same header value in subsequent RESTful calls.
Indeed, internally, we handle one document instance for each used locale.

  • How to avoid changing all the document with alignment change

I want to change one paragraph as centered alignment, but not change the rest of the document. How?

Just select whatever you want to format and not the rest. If it is just the one paragraph just click any where in it.
The alignment formatting is on your toolbar, in the text inspector and under the Format menu > Text.

  • Deploying the same EDI documents with schema changes

I'm trying to make changes to the 867 schema to accommodate one of our customers.  I don't want to make the changes with our other customers, so I will have to have two 867 schemas in my project.   From what I've read it sounds like I should
be able to do this through a party agreement and a new target namespace on the schema, but so far I haven't had any success.
Is there a guide that can walk me through this?

    Hi Bran,
1.In Visual Studio, add the schema that you want to modify to a project and open the schema in BizTalk Editor.
2.To change the properties of a data element or record, click the appropriate node in the left pane of BizTalk Editor and change its properties in the Properties window.
3.To change the values in an enumeration, select the enumeration in the Properties pane, and then click the ellipsis to open the Enumeration Editor. Add to or delete from the list of values, as needed, ensuring that there is one value on each line in the
    Values pane. Click OK.
4.To add a custom field to the schema, right-click a record node in the console tree of BizTalk Editor, point to Insert Schema Node, and click Child Field Element. Name the data element, and then drag the data element to the appropriate position in the record.
Set the properties for the custom field properties as required.
5.To add a custom record to the schema, right-click a record node in the console tree of Schema Editor, point to Insert Schema Node, and then click Child Record. Name the record, and then drag the record to the appropriate position in the schema. Add at
least one data element to the record. Set the properties for the custom record as required.
6.After making the desired changes to the schema, you can change the target namespace that applies to the schema property by clicking the root node (<Schema>) and then changing the Target Namespace property.
    7.Save the schema.
8.Validate the schema by right-clicking the schema in Solution Explorer and clicking Validate Schema.
    Thanks

  • Update existing marketing documents with price changes

I am looking for a way to auto update sales order prices when the item price list changes. is this possible? I havent been able to find a way to change the price on an existing marketing document automatically.

Gordon is correct, you need to do it manually.  However there is a quick and easy way to update a whole document in one hit...
Open the document, hit form settings, change the price list to a different one, hit OK, it will then ask if you want to update, it doesn't really matter if you say yes or no at this stage.  Then go back into form settings, change the price list back again, hit OK and this time when it asks you if you want to update, make sure you say yes.
This will update the document pricing to reflect the current pricing in the price list you have selected.

  • MS Word Track Changes and Acrobat Merge into a Single PDF

I am using Word 2007 to create a group of about 50 files that are being collected with Acrobat 9 Standard Merge Files Into a Single PDF feature.  I need to control whether the track changes in the word files are carried over to the PDF.  Said another way, I want a singe PDF with the track changes showing and another PDF witht he track changes off. Currently, the track changes are being filtered out (accepted) in the merged document.  Strangely, when printing a single document with track changes, the track changes show in the PDF.
I understand I could print each of my 50 files individually and then collect them with the merge feature, but I am hoping to take advantage of the automation.
How do I control the track changes printing / not printing?
    Thanks for the help!

Thank you for the comment!  If this is the best Acrobat can do, I will just have to lower my expectation.

  • Word for iPad - Does Track Changes Work?

I use MS Office at work and need to edit lots of documents.  I am considering biting the bullet and getting an Office 365 Subscription so I can use the new Office for iPad apps. (I know that they are 3 separate apps, it's just easier to say it this way)
I do need to know if the Track Changes function works in the iPad version even close to how it works on the Desktop version of Word.  Has anyone checked this out?  Have you tried to send a document with track changes turned on back and forth between a couple of people to see what happens when the doc is opened and closed by different people and sent via email.
I just don't want to waste my money trying to get the one feature I really need.

OK I shelled out the hundred bucks for the annual subscription to Office 365 (And then two days later found it for $79 at Office Depot, sheesh!).
So far it seems to be worth the money if you need to edit or create documents on your iPad.  If you only need to read docs, spreadsheets or review PowerPoints, just get the free versions and stick with them.
The nice thing about the annual subscription is that we can put Office on 5 computers AND 5 tablets.  And it is supposed to always be up to date.  So I now have access to Office 2013 pretty much everywhere I go.  And with the free (somewhat crippled I will admit) versions of the Office apps on OneDrive on the web, I am in business as long as I can connect to the internet.
I have tried all the apps on my iPad and find them to be very well executed and easy to use.  Track changes works just like on my desktop PC so that made it worth it for my wife who uses it all the time when reviewing dissertations for her students.  And it works for me when I am editing files with my coworkers.
If you don't mind having to pay the annual subscription fee and you need to edit docs on the run and you don't want to have to drag a full sized laptop around with your, I would recommend getting the apps and paying the fee to activate Office 365.
The only con I have run across so far is that the Save As option to save a document to your iPad so you can work on it between internet connections is less than intuitive. You have to make a copy, not surprising, but the option to do this is called Duplicate rather than a simple and easy to understand, Save As.

  • Photosmart C309a - Printing Track Changes on document

Whenever I try to print my document which has track changes and comments, the comments don't appear on the printed page even though they show on the print preview.  If I print double sided (duplex) the comment number appears in the text, but the comments themselves don't appear anywhere.  If I print single sided, the comments appear in the balloons, but are cut off at the margin.
I have tried different settings but with no result.  If I print this at work, it prints without a problem, so I can only assume that I need to click something (or unclick!)  on my printer options to get the information onto the printed page.  I am a newbie with track changes, so may be doing something wrong, but in that event I wouldn't expect it to print out at work.
    Can anyone help me, please?

  • Exporting Track Changes to Word no longer works

Just like it says in the subject line: It used to be that I could get a Word doc with Track Changes on and comments from my editor, do my own changes/add comments, then export it as a Word doc no problem. Now Pages either refuses to export the document or mangles it when exporting, causing certain changes to be automatically accepted or declined.
I was hoping that today's iCloud update for iWork would have this little bug fix in it, but no luck. Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix it?
    Thanks!

I think your problem could be a simple one of corrupt preferences. I think Yvan's script removes them, but maybe not. When something that used to work stops doing so, the most likely culprit is corrupt preferences. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file & then restart Pages. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your user Library will appear about halfway down the list.

  • Word blacks out text; possibly related to Track Changes feature

(also posted to Microsoft Answers forum, but I suspect that this is going to need Pro assistance!)
I was editing a 150+ page document in Word 2007 (on Windows 7 PC with all updates applied). I'd already been working with the document for several hours when suddenly large chunks of the document were blacked out. Paging up or down eliminated the problem
    momentarily, but further edits caused it to happen over and over again. Some squiggly underlines show through the black, but little else. We realized that it was happening when I had Track Changes on and displayed the changes in balloons rather than inline;
when I moved the mouse into the area where the balloons were displayed, that's when the text was blacked out.
We figured that the document was corrupted. However, this is also happening now with another document that's much shorter and far cleaner than the first one. The problem also occurs on PCs other than mine. I opened a clean template, pasted the
unformatted text from the source document into the clean template, and the problem persists in the new doc, so I don't think it's a problem with the documents -- or at least not solely.
We tried this on a newer PC with a ramped-up video card and got the same results. It has not happened (near as we can tell) with Track Changes turned off, but I must track the changes I make so working with TC off isn't an option.
Before anyone asks, I cannot provide a copy of any of the documents because they are strictly confidential.
    TIA!

    Hi,
I have tried in my Word 2007 with Track Changes and I cannot reproduce the issue.
Since you also tried in other files and PCs, so try to open the file in safe mode to check the issue.

  • Track changes made to existing comments

How can I track changes made to comments in Word 2010? It seems that with track changes on, you can tell which user made which edits within the body of a document, but track changes fails to track changes made to content within comments.

As far as I know, track changes would not track the changes made to existing comments. You can see:http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/word-help/change-options-for-track-changes-HA104053477.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA102840151
Maybe we can track the changes made in comment with the help of VBA code.

  • MacBook Air + Microsoft Word + Track Changes = nightmare

I work part-time as an editor.  I use Microsoft Word on my MacBook Air and while I love my Mac for a million other things, it absolutely ***** when it comes to using Microsoft Word in Track Changes mode.  After just a little editing, the program crashes.  It's constant, it's regular, and it's a total nightmare.  How can I best get around this problem without having to use a PC to do my editing?

I'd recommend reinstalling Office, then. I use Word of Mac '11 (same version) without any issues working with track changes. I will say that it can sometimes be a bit sluggish (the application) as the document ages and the amount of changes that occur but never once has the application locked up entirely, crashed or quit on me.
