Unable to email Pages 5.0 doc with track changes
In Safari, when trying to attach a Pages doc (Pages 5.0 in Mavericks) with track changes in gmail I get an "Attachment failed" error. In Chrome, I'm able to attach and send the file, but the person I've sent it to is unable to open it. Is anyone experiencing anything similar and/or has discovered a fix?

No, they get an error when they try to open it, and they do have the same version of Pages. Yes, I did end up having to export it as a temporary solution, and I don't think the track changes stayed. I was wondering if not being able to send Pages files with track changes is a common issue with Pages 5.0. If you try emailing a Pages 5.0 file with track changes, are the recipients able to open it with track changes in Pages?

Comparing documents with Track Changes on
We're currently using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with Word 2003 (11.8307.8221) SP3.
We create PDFs with Track Changes on (showing).
We're testing and will soon be implementing Acrobat 9.1.3
Here's the issue:
We have a large number (10,000+ documents) created in Word, with Track Changes showing.
We create a PDF using Acrobat 8.1.6.
As long as we continue using Acrobat 8.1.6 we can compare documents with Track Changes on.
However, now we're moving to Acrobat 9.1.3.
We can open these existing documents, and edit them (delete pages, add comments, etc.) but when we try to compare an 8.1.6 file that has Track Changes on, we're getting an error message:
"These dots conform to PDF/A standards and do not allow editing. Please modify PDF/A secumenttings to allow editing and try again."
In Word, our Adobe PDF settings DO NOT HAVE "Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file" checked (for kicks we tried it with this option on and off...same results). We have also DISABLED "Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF."
This is only an issue taking 8.1.6 files into 9.1.3. If we create a PDF in 9.1.3 with Track Changes on, we have no problems. It appears to be a disconnect with 8.1.6 and 9.1.3.
I've gone through the forums and the web, and cannot find this issue anywhere else.
I can also recreate the issue at will.
Anyone out there have any ideas? We can't recreate the old 8.1.6 PDFs in 9.1.3...too many files, too little time, too much trouble.
Thank you!Open the old pdf in Pro 3.? using file open. Under "Advanced" select "Preflight", under "PDF/A compliance" select "Remove PDF/A information" and save the pdf. We had to do this to both old and new pdf's before we could compare without the mentioned error. It sucks though, having to convert the documents and save them before compare. Hope this helps!

Unable to embedded xls files word doc with acrobat distiller 6
Hi,
I have a problem to convert a Microsoft Word docs with embedded excel(*.xls) to PDF using Adobe Distiller 6. The excel file will become an image file after conversion.
Please advise on what went wrong or is this a limititaion of Adobe Distiller 6.

HaikalI suspect that what you are asking as nothing to do with Acrobat. For what you are doing, there is no need to use PDF Maker (unless you are looking for links or such). You do not have to use Distiller (unless you are taking about the Acrobat Distiller printer with AA5 and earlier), but simply print to the Adobe PDF printer (that automates the use of Distiller). In fact, Distiller can not handle DOC files, so I suspect you are using AA5. However, the end result will be based on whatever WORD sends to the printer, not how Acrobat converts it. If text is sent, then Acrobat will convert it accordingly. Sounds like WORD is sending the Excel file as a graphic. It may just be that is how WORD handles that OLE aspect of the embedding.
I am no expert on WORD (I use another package), but I really doubt that Acrobat is at fault. I would look at what WORD is doing. One way to do this is to print to a PS file (you can do this with the Adobe PDF printer using print-to-file. Open the PS file and you should find a graphic structure in the PS that represents the Excel file. -
Quick Office for Word docs with tracking
Can I use Quick Office for iPad to view Word docs and see the tracking changes? I don't think so, but thought I'd ask. I did a search and didn't see this posted but I could have missed it. If I did, apologies for the redundancy.
From what I've read on here, none of the Office apps are able to track changes.

Hi - I'm collaborating on a document with someone remotely and this feature "Track Changes" is useful for our collaboration.
Its strange, but I can't zip a document that has changes yet to be approved. Is this a bug?It may be helpful to Press Shift during startup

I gather that Pages does not have a way to insert a file into a document in the way that Word has insert file. So all we can do is copy an entire document and then paste it into the second document. But when I do that I lose the track changes, except for the odd comment. What is the way around this?
I'm assuming you're wanting to insert the contents of one Pages document into another. I don't have a need to use tracking, so I'm not sure if this applies but I think it should.
You can insert sections from one Pages document into another. Open your files & show thumbnails. Sections have a yellow border around all of the pages in that section. Now click on the page in the thumbnail pane & copy. If the file is more than one page & you only want one, you'll need to insert a section break to separate the pages. Then go to your other file, click in the thumbnail pane & paste. If you want to insert the other content into the middle of a section in the receiving document, you will need to insert section breaks at the point you want to insert. The whole copied page will be pasted in. Repeat with another section. Styles will copy over with the sections but headers & footers will not. -
Unable to email Pages documents
I am unable to send a Pages document in an email. I am using the new Pages for Mac, which I already have many issues with. However, at the moment, it does not allow me to send the Pages file in an email. I am also unable to attach/upload a Pages file to a gmail email on the gmail website. Are other people having this issue? I know that my sister is also having problems with this.

Can't open pages 3.0 docs with Pages 2.0
I have Pages 2.02. I am having a person create flyers for me. They are created in Pages 3.0. I am unable to open them. Is this normal, early versions of Pages cannot open later versions. There may be an answer to this but I couldn't find one.
It seems unusual for them not to be compatible. I am not a big fan of Pages and do not want to buy a newer version just to open a few docs.

Pages 3.0 contain features which are unavailable in Pages 2.
So, the structure of the Pages 3 documents is different that the structure of Pages 2 ones.
Ask your correspondant to be fair enough to export its document as a Pages 2 one or as a PDF one.
You may also download the iWork '08 trial version.
It will be a full one during 30 days and will become a simple reader when the 30 days will be out.

I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture. If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender? Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it. I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?

drainguy41If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read. -
Can anyone recommend an alternative software programme to Pages? I have an OS X 10.7.5 macbook pro, so I am unable to get it. I want a programme that I can create docs with pictures and text on, invitations, posters etc. Many thanks in advance…..

Pages '09 docs with imbedded images crash app after OS 10.6 upgrade
I'm unable to open Pages '09 docs with imbedded images (JPG, GIF, TIF, etc) since upgrading to 10.6. I have not seen the same behavior from Pages docs w/o imbedded images. Permission repair lists no errors; can re-install iWork '09 if needed. Below are portions of the report the OS sends back to Apple:

Thanks.After further investigation, I need to refine my evaluation of the problem. I'm able to insert JPG, GIF, and TIF files taken from WWW or CS.
The issue is not with Pages, but with MakeMusic's Finale. You are able to export score/part examples as graphic files (TIF in v2008). As a music teacher, I'm importing those TIFs into pre-existing Pages documents for student assessment.
I've now been unable to open those TIFs directly in Preview or Finder Quick Look. It seems the expected information about a TIF in SN is no being produced by Finale.
I have consulted MakeMusic's forums and currently, there are no official statements from MakeMusic on the compatibility of 2008-2010 versions with SN.

iPad- on all Yahoo pages the mail icon with the red number indication shows email. When I tap, it asks me to sign in again. I do. It takes me to yahoo mail but there is nothing. All the folders are emptied. All my mail is either read, trash, or deleted. Also, when I tap on the mail app on iPad home page, gmail is no problem but for yahoo I get error: no password for yahoo. Go to Mail Account Settings and enter password. I'm stuck. Suggestions? Thank you.

Go to your Gmail account in the browser.
Hit the folder icon that brings up the folder selection.
Scroll down to the bottom and select desktop version.
The broswer will refresh and bring up your gmail account as though you were looking on it on the computer.
The go to the upper right corner and select settings.
Then go to forwarding and pop/imap
Go look at pop download
There you'll find 3 numbered lines
Go to 1. Status
And select enable pop for all mail
Then save the settings
Once you have done that you can go back to BlackBerry device settings and sync your mail or wait for it to sync it's self.

Can't open Word docs with Pages 08
Since upgrading to SL I found that I can no longer open Word documents sent to me via email attachments. Can this be remedied? I thought Macs were able to "translate" Word files.
Help!I did discover I can open Word docs with Text Edit, but it's a multi-step process now. I really don't want to upgrade to iWork 09 and I'm not sure that would solve the problem. I also have to use Quick Time now to open movies in iPhoto. Another multi-step process. I'm not very happy with SL.
