Compass Server, Robots, Binding to IP address

Hello,
We're running iPlanet Compass server on top of iPlanet web server. We have been using the product for years now (back when it was called Catalog server). Anyway, we would really like the robot to bind to a specific IP address and use it when doing crawling.
For example, our machine may have a primary IP address of 1.2.3.4. However, using IP aliasing, we may also have an IP address of 1.2.3.5 on it (same subnet). We would like to have the robot use the IP alias address instead of the primary address when doing crawling.
Many servers allow for this ability (BIND and Postfix come to mind). This allows us to separate the 'service' from the server providing the service. If we need to move the service on to a different server, we simply migrate the IP address over to it the new server. The old server keeps its original IP address because it never had any connection to the service.
Does this capability exist for the robots? Please note that I am NOT referring to the web server portion; I understand that the web servers can be configured to bind to a specific IP address, and we do that with great success. However, the crawlers (robots) all seem to want to use the primary address of the machine.
I'm hoping there might be a setting in process.conf that we could add to enable this functionality.
Thanks for any pointers,

On other server (not problematic one) try;
netstat -ano
verify in the list if the ports 137, 138 and 139 are listed and listening or at least have
*.* in foreign column. If not make sure File and Printer Sharing
is bound to the connection.

  • Server Socket Binding

We use a ServerSocket Listening on port 162 to receive Traps from a Remote agent. If the application is launched on a multi-homed system (system with Multiple IP Addresses), which IP Address does the socket bind to ?
Is it the case that the Socket binds to a port and not to a IP and hence IP to which it is bound does not matter at all?
    Kindly respond

We use a ServerSocket Listening on port 162 to receive
Traps from a Remote agent. If the application is
launched on a multi-homed system (system with Multiple
IP Addresses), which IP Address does the socket bind
to ?It depends of the ServerSocket constructor you use. If you only say:
ServerSocket ss = new ServerSocket( port );it will bind every IP address your machine has. However, if you use:
ServerSocket ss = new ServerSocket(port, backlog, bindAddr) ;Your server socket will be bound to the InetAddress object bindAddr (the IP you need to be bounded to).

  • Cups - Unable to bind socket for address

At first I must say, than CUPS is the bigger shit I have ever seen on Linux. I have configured many daemons like: Apache, Lighttpd, MySQL or dnsmasq. Everything always just work, but not CUPS. I have configured it for 15-20 times. I always need about 5-10 hours to run it, and I've never known why it started work - probably it is randomly like Windows
Now, CUPS works fine on server, and I can print from laptop. But I've reinstalled Arch on PC. I've copied /etc/cups/ from laptop to PC, and now I can't start CUPS:

  • Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??

I am looking to move from an outdated Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to OS X Lion Server but I am unsure as to how Lion will handle email. I do not want to spend money on a new windows server if I can get a Mac Mini Server to do the job. I am a very small business with a number of email accounts for a couple employees and need access to email and calendar from both the office iMac's and my Macbook Pro when on the road. My IT guy says I need Exchange but he's been off base on a few other items recently and I wanted to check with other sources.
I have 2 new iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad1 and and iPhone4 on the mac side of things and 2 windows computers running XP. I would get rid of the windows computers completely if not for my CAD program which runs best not in a virtual machine mode.
How well will email and calendar entries sync across devices?

I have a very similar setup at my office. Lion Server will push email, calandar, contacts to all of your apple product with out a hitch.
As far the Windows XP machines, you can access email over IMAP with Thunderbird, and calandars via sunbird or the built in web app.
I would ditch the exchange server move to Mac OS X Server, and never look back.
    God Luck!
PS. All of your devices will be in sync all the time.
    Shore answer:
Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??
    Yes.

  • Mac mini server refuses to get DHCP address from router

Everything was going along fine. But after a power outage the server goes to a 169. address when the router puts out 198. addresses. If I put a static 198. address in it sees the network but won't connect to the internet. I've flashed the router (everything else sees the router fine, 3 computers and a time capsule). I've had the hardware checked at the Apple store - it picked up an address right away. After narrowing everything down the problem has to be in the operating system. I even did a full time machine restore to the day before the storm. No luck. Anyone heard of this problem.

    Mauricette has a point.
A server function is not designed to accept a floating or dynamic IP address.  If that is the case, how do you create firewall rules that prevent those unnnecessary ports being left opened from being attacked by rogue machines in Romania and China on a hourly basis when you announce to the world that your server is available if the server IP address keep changing due to the DHCP lease change?  Yes, they do have bots that do this VERY EFFICIENTLY!
By changing the very nature of your firewall rules by working with DHCP, you are opening ports you do not know to accommodate DHCP dynamic addressing, which was the reason why your Mac Mini Server stopped working in the first place.  It's ok for a client, since a client isn't serving any files to any one right.
By using client based firewall rules, you are exposing your server to attacks and when they get through your Mini server, which they can if they are persistent, they get into your home network and then whatever file server services you have opened and unprotected at the time WILL BE copied by these people easily.
I have a client once who did just that.  She was attacked, the hacker went through her network like a rampaging bull.  They were from China.  My Synology RAID server gets this attack all the time, but I have a well establish IDS system and the Synology RAID has logs that tracks attacks.
For a server setup.  Use static IP and then build a strong firewall around it and protect it and never compromise.
Recently, I just noticed someone somehow hacked and broke my WPA-PSK AES passkey for one of my Wireless N network router.  It was not set up with a strong password though, but thankgod I had a firewall around that so my internal networks were safe. So this teaches you that if someone wants in bad, they will get in.
    Hope this helps.

  • How get the RVS4000's DHCP server to assign another IP address other than its own as the default gateway to its DHCP clients?

    Hi,
I have a RVS4000 router with DHCP enabled and in router mode.
The LAN is 192.168.2.x.  The RVS4000 static IP address is 192.168.2.8
The router is not the RVS4000 and is at 192.168.2.1
The RVS4000 dhcp is assigning it's clients a default gateway of 192.168.2.8 instead of what I want 192.168.2.1.
How can I get the RVS4000's DHCP server to assign another IP address other than its own as the default gateway to its DHCP clients?
    Thanks

Hi Gail, you cannot do this. The router, as the DHCP server will only assign a default gateway of what IP interface the DHCP server runs on. If you have the default IP, the gateway is 192.168.1.1. If you create a second vlan, by default it would be 192.168.2.1.
There are not configuration options for the built-in DHCP server. If you'd like to expand this functionality, you would need an external dhcp server.

  • Server doesn't recognize email address

I can recieve email, but I can't send email.  It keeps saying "server doesn't recognize email address."

    Ok,
    I have it working finally.
On a whim, I tried deleting the iCloud account (again) and reinstated it.
I set it up using [username]@me.com, and all is well.
This is the 2nd time i set it up this way, so I would suggest trying it again, if you have already.

  • AirPort Express DHCP Server for distribution of IP-addresses?

Does the AirPort Express have an DHCP server that distribute local IP-addresses like other Wi-FI router does? If so, how do I set it up in the AirPort Utillity?

+Seems I cant force it to only use a specific subset of the IP address range?+
That would be up to the Netcomm router to provide the IP addresses to be used. I'm not familiar with Netcom, but a router with the type of capability I was thinking of could be configured to provide a certain range of IP addresses to a given device based on the MAC address of the device.
The additional information that you just furnished indicates that you probably have a basic featured router designed for home network use that would not have this type of capability. In that case, the AirPort Express would not be able to be configured to Distribute a Range of IP Addresses. It would have to be configured as a "bridge" on the network and receive IP addresses from the main router.
Or, the AirPort Express might be able to distribute the IP addresses that you want if you configure it to Share a public IP address. The rub here is that you will have what is known as a Double NAT on your network. You'll have two devices handling DHCP on the network when there should only really be one. It may or may not function correctly as this is not a recommended configuration.

    Dear Juan,
We have maintained enque parameters in ASCS80 profile and restarted SAP.
Still we are facing the same error.
The parameters which we have maintained are as below:
    enque/table_size = 50000
    rdisp/enqname = $(rdisp/myname)
    rdisp/myname = SIDci_SID_00
The last parameter rdisp/myname = SIDci_SID_00 from above list is also maintained in instance profile of ci and application server as well as in default profile.
The parameter rdisp/enqname = $(rdisp/myname) is also present in SCS10 profile.
Please guide us on maintaining these parameters as it is maintained in almost all profiles.

  • IPad won't send emails but iPhone does. iPad message says server does not recognise email address resetting account makes no difference what else can I try?,

My iPad won't send emails despite identical settings with iPhone which does work. " server does not recognise email address" resetting account fails to solve issue. What else can I try?

Have you checked ALL the settings including the port assignments? Easiest way to get those back to is to delete the email account from the iPad then redo the email account. Usually the ISP providing the email account will have instructions on their web site.

I can ping the server just fine.  Can anyone point me in the right direction here?  In 2.5 years dealing with CM I've never run across anything like this.

    Hi,
The address cannot be defined if the DP is already installed.
Please make sure the IP of the sever("I can ping the server just fine.") is the same with the IP of DP.
If IPs are the same, please have a try after closing the firewall.
If it stills not work, please try to reinstall the DP.
    Best Regards,
    Joyce Li

  • How to config AM agent with websphere app server which binded http server??

    Hi, thanks for your concern.
I am configuing AM policy agent with websphere 6.0 application server , the difference to the normal situation is : the IBM application server is binding with IBM http server so the server can deal with request from the port 80. It puzzled me much what shall I do when I installing the agent, the following are the questions:
    1. Enter the Instance Config Directory: -- shall i use the config folder for "server1" or "webserver1"?
    2. Enter the Server Instance name. -- shall i use the "server1" or "webserver1"?
    3. Enter the preferred port number on which the application server provides its services: -- shall i use "80"(web server) or "9080"(app server) ,
    4. Enter the preferred port number on which the application server provides its services: -- yes i should fill "/agentapp" here, but when i deploy this application, the web module should be "webserver1" or "server1"?
And yet I only need SSO here , what is the easiest way to configue them well? I do not want to obey the contents from DOC, at fact it makes my websphere crashed ... I think maybe I can use "filter" for application only after I installed the agent, is that right? but it make me crazy that, websphere told me it can not find the class javax.servlet.Filter ... I copied one for it ,but it still can not work. I think maybe I make wrong configuration before .
Is the document "Sun Java SystemAccess Manager PolicyAgent 2.2 Guide for IBM WebSphereApplication Server 6.0" only for stand alone application server?
Any help will be most appriciated! thank you!

If you are trying to install j2ee Agent 2.2 then the below answers may be helpful. i am not sure what webserver1 is ?
Remeber all config for j2ee agent is for the app server.
    1. Enter the Instance Config Directory: -- shall i use the config folder for "server1" or "webserver1"? You should be using the 1 which your app server is using. The server.xml will be modified for the corresponding server instance.
    2. Enter the Server Instance name. -- shall i use the "server1" or "webserver1"? depends on above config
    3. Enter the preferred port number on which the application server provides its services: -- shall i use "80"(web server) or "9080"(app server) , for j2ee agent ot should be 9080
    4. Enter the preferred port number on which the application server provides its services: -- yes i should fill "/agentapp" here, but when i deploy this application, the web module should be "webserver1" or "server1"?it should be ur app server port.
And yet I only need SSO here , what is the easiest way to configue them well? try sso_only mode
I do not want to obey the contents from DOC, at fact it makes my websphere crashed ... I think maybe I can use "filter" for application only after I installed the agent, is that right? without the agent filter in the web.xml the agent wont intercept any traffic.
but it make me crazy that, websphere told me it can not find the class javax.servlet.Filter ... I copied one for it ,but it still can not work. I think maybe I make wrong configuration before .
Is the document "Sun Java SystemAccess Manager PolicyAgent 2.2 Guide for IBM WebSphereApplication Server 6.0" only for stand alone application server?
Follow the SUN Docs strictly and it should work fine.
