Compile Ctrl-F7 feature unavailble for Driver projects in Visual Studio 2013

Is there a way to compile individual files in Driver projects?
I'm running Visual Studio Professional 2013 Version 12.0.21005.1 REL on Windows 7 SP1 x64
This happens with any driver project but the easiest way to repro is to look at one of the samples.
Open up Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 8.1 Samples.zip\IOCTL\C++\ioctl.sln
In the Solution Explorer pane - Right click on  Exe\ioctlapp\Source Files\testapp.c - The Compile Ctrl-F7 feature is available
If you right click on Sys\sioctl\Source Files\sioctl.c  - The Compile Ctrl-F7 feature is greyed out

Thanks for Viorel’s help.
Hi vvx123,
Not the real expert about the Driver projects, maybe you could share me the requirement tools or the detailed steps, so I could repro this issue in my VS2013.
But if you mean that other projects works well, and all driver projects have this issue, I doubt that it has this limitation for this specific project. Maybe you could check it in other machine.
To get the issue confirmed and diagnose by product team, if possible, you could create connect report for it. You will get email notification for update.http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/CreateFeedback.aspx.
If you submit it, you could share us the link here, so could get the latest information from the product team expert.
I have the VS2013 Environment in Windows 8, but it seems that I couldn’t get the driver project template in VS 2013 IDE, do I need to install any tools like SDK or others? Or how I could create a driver project in my side. Could you share me the detailed
steps to repro this issue?
If there's any concern, please feel free to let me know.

  • Evaluation period has ended trying to create a BizTalk project in Visual Studio 2013 ultimate

    Hi,
I am doing a proof-of-concept with BizTalk, and I am using evaluation versions of everything involved, SQL server 2012 SP1, Windows server 2012, Visual Studio 2013 R2 and BizTalk 2013 R2.
All worked (relatively speaking) until I finally came to creating a BizTalk project in Visual Studio 2013 R2.
I installed the relevant BizTalk components on that machine (windows 8.1 32-bit, non eval) and then I get the BizTalk evaluation period has ended error message.
I am sort of stumped, I have a long while left on the evaluation period on all involved software, anyone knows what this is about?

    Hi,
    Try repairing the BizTalk installation.

  • Customize Styles for Report Wizard in Visual Studio 2013

I'd like to customize the styles defined for the Reporting Wizard in Visual Studio 2013.
There was a writeup for doing so that pointed to editing the following:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Business Intelligence Wizards\Reports\Styles\en\StyleTemplates.xml
However, there is no Business Intelligence Wizards folder under 12.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies - yet when selected, the report wizard is picking up a list of styles from somewhere.
Could someone point me to where the style definition is?
    Thanks in advance.
    Doug.

    Hi Doug,
    >>However, there is no Business Intelligence Wizards folder under 12.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies - yet when selected, the report wizard is picking up a list of styles from somewhere.
Just to make this issue clearly, whether this issue is related to the SSRS?

You said that it is related to the Business Intelligence, do you mean that you want to install the SSDT-BI?

    Hi,
In my WPF 4.5 project in Visual Studio 2013, when I right clicked the name of my project it doesn’t show the option to open in Blend for Visual Studio 2013….. and when I try to open the project with Blend for Visual Studio 2013, it doesn't show anything.....
I don't see the project nor the UI of my WPF 4.5 project
How I can open my project in Blend for Visual Studio 2013???
    Thanks!!!
    Regards,

    Hi Jaquense,
open Blend. Open Project/Solution and select the .sln-file of the project you've created in visual Studio. That's it. In the Project Explorer in Blend you should see your files and you should be able to open up your XAML-files.

  • The Error Message 'Application descriptor file cannot be parsed' shows when compiling (Ctrl + Enter) Adobe AIR for Android applications on Flash Professional CS5.5

The Error Message 'Application descriptor file cannot be parsed' shows when compiling (Ctrl + Enter) Adobe AIR for Android applications on Flash Professional CS5.5
This is happening for most of the pupils and staff at our school and they are unable to complete their work.
This also happens on a fresh copy of windows and CS5.5 without any updates and also with all latest updates.
I have tried it on 32-bit and 64-bit CS5, Windows, Air and Java with the same error every time.
There are a small minority of users where this works fine for them with no issue.
I have tried re-setting user profiles.
I have tried a local admin and domain admin account with the same issue
I have noticed however that if the file is moved to the shared area it will compile. If it is on their documents area it will not compile. The users have full control in both locations. This is fine for staff but we are unable to give full control or modify access to the shared area for the pupil's
I have been through the online support section and it directed me to phone Adobe Customer care who informed me that all support has been discontinued for CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 and they will only support creative cloud.
Any ideas what to try next? There is no other information about this error and I cannot work out what is causing it.

I have tried and  able to package an apk using your XML file.Could you please make sure your XML file starting from line 1 and coloumn 0.Any space will results in the error (Application Descriptor file cannot be parsed)

  • Creating mdf file from a database project in Visual Studio for Web

I am very new to database programming in Visual Studio and SQL Server Express LocalDB. I went through a walk through of setting up a database project (using visual studio express 2013 for web and SQL Server Express LocalDB), adding tables and entering data
    and everything worked fine:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms233763.aspx
Then I wanted to move on to trying to build a simple application to access this database so I looked into the following tutorial:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171890.aspx
In a nutshell the tutorial says to add a new datasource and navigate to the database file, and it is looking for an .mdf file.
The database project that I created does not have an mdf file in it, only sql file, visual studio project, dbmdl file, options file, source browser database, etc.
How do I create this .mdf file, that step didn't seem to be explained in the first tutorial. I tried running the project, but didn't see any build options for creating the .mdf file. Again, sorry for the absolute beginner question.

    Thanks edencorbin

  • How do I put a project using nmake (or other make util) into a visual studio 2013 project?

I'm not asking how to convert it over to visual studio's internal setup.  I want to use the custom build feature to build the code prior to building the current project so that the library generated will be available to the project.
Steps I've used I got from
    here:
    Create a win32 dll project.
Copy the files into a subdirectory under the project.
In the Solution Explorer, I create a Filter that I then add all of the source, headers and Makefile to.
I select all of the items in that filter group and right click and select properties.
In Configuration Properties->General, I change Item Type to Custom Build Tool and click Apply. (In the Visual Studio 2013 community, this sometimes comes up with:
An error has occured while saving the edited properties listed below:
One or more values are invalid. Object reference not set to an instance of and object.
Yeah, that's not cryptic. 9.9.  When that happens, I just click Ok and then click on the parent window, and it will ask me
Do you want to save the changes you've made to the property page?
To which I click Yes and it seems to apply it to all the files and I then reopen the property page again.
I then go to Configuration Properties->Custom Build Tool->General and set
    Command Line to:
    cd subfolder
    nmake
For Outputs, I set it to subfolder\bin\output-file.lib.
For Link Objects, I leave it as Yes.
Clicking on ok and then building gets me the following error:
LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'subfolder\bin\output-file.lib'.
Yeah, no kidding, it hasn't been made yet.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
    A
    Adrian

I was trying to get it to be part of another project, and the information from Specifying Custom Build Tools stated:
    If the Custom
Build Tool folder does not appear, the file extension of the file you selected is associated with a default tool. For example,
the default tool for .c and .cpp files is the compiler. To override a default tool setting, in the Configuration
Properties node, in the General folder,
    in the Item Type property,
    click Custom Build Tool.
    Click Apply and
    the Custom Build Tool node
    is displayed.
Indicating that what I was trying to accomplish could be done.  However, since this is 3rd party code, this seems to be a cleaner way of doing it.
    Thanks,

  • Visual Studio 2013 is creating new feature every time new list definition is added

We are using Visual Studio 2013 and details are as under:
    Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2013
    Version 12.0.30501.00 Update 2
We we add a new list definition in our project, it creates a new feature with it. If we delete the feature and add list definition in the existing feature, list is created but columns are not added in the list.
Same thing happened if we rename "Feature1", a new feature is created every time a new list definition is created.
This doesn't happen when we add a Visual WebPart.
Also, we have three different custom list option in the drop down in new list creating wizard.
Is this a bug or we are doing something different.

Intellisense has a bug in VS2013 where it doesn't recognize InitializeComponent when you start working on the XAML.  My feeling is that if you try to compile this app, it will run fine (as long as there are no actual errors).

  • Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows - InitializeComponent() does not contain a definition issue

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows (Windows Store App version), with Update 1.
I create a blank app. I right-click on InitializeComponent() in the MainPage.xaml.cs and select Go To Definition. It brings me to the .g.i.cs file where this method resides.
I go into the designer for MainPage.xaml and create a grid of 2 rows and 2 columns (all at 1*). I add one button, doesn't matter where. I double click on that button to add a click method to MainPage.xaml.cs. Without entering anything into the button click
method, I scroll up and InitializeComponent() has an error and tells me there is not definition, even though I was looking at the definition a minute ago. I found I could unload the project and reload it and InitializeComponent() would have the definition
in the .g.i.cs file but as soon as I add another button click or anything else I run into the same error. It seems as if the .g.i.cs file is not automatically regenerating, or it is being deleted all together when the button click method is added to the xaml.cs
    file.
Everything I have done up to this point is very vanilla. I installed VS '13 Express for Windows, didn't change any VS setting, created a project and ran into this issue. I installed Update 1 thinking there might be a fix from the update--no luck. The xaml
file Build Action is Page and the Xaml.cs file is Compile.
I have tried deleting the MainPage.xaml file, after the creation of a project, and adding a new MainPage file with the added templates VS wants to include, and I still run into the same issue.
I have searched for answers the past few days but haven't found anything that addresses my issue (most of what I found addresses VS '10 but their InitializeComponent() issues aren't the same as mine). Any help the MSDN community can provide would be
a great help. If worst comes to worst, I will re-install VS and see if that corrects it--this would be a last-ditch effort though.
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide

  • Unable to open MVC project in Visual Studio 2008

I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through
DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit
the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed
    properly?

  • Edit a local copy of Project in Visual Studio Without Setting "Edit" flag in TFS

My local drive is mapped to TFS; every time I open up a project in Visual Studio and open up a file; the status of "Pending Changes" in TFS is updated to "Edit".  How do I avoid that to happen?

    Hi Shayaan,
Since your local drive is mapped to TFS, seems it's as expected when edit a file of the project. Generally, when you edit the project on local machine, the project is check out automatically.
If you still have concerns, you can also  check the workspace type you're using. Change it to a local workspace if you're using a server workspace. Or you can elaborate more details about your scenario, including TFS version and reproduce steps etc.

  • Which Visual C++ redistributable package needed for Visual Studio 2013 Update 3 and 4?

Which redistributable package should be installed at the client side for binaries built with either Visual C++ 2013 Update 3 or 4?
From the Download Center, "Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013",
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 I downloaded "vcredist_x86.exe" and "vcredist_x64.exe", which have version number 12.0.21005.1
My system, which has installed VS2013 Update 3, also has "vcredist_x86.exe" and "vcredist_x64.exe", at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\VC\redist\1033", but these having a higher version number: 12.0.30501.0
A colleague of mine has installed  VS2013 Update 4, but has the same redistributable files as my VS2013 Update 3 installation: version 12.0.30501.0.
Is it correct to conclude that
the VS2013 redistributables at Microsoft's Download Center (12.0.21005.1) are outdated?
VS2013 Update 3 and Update 4 based applications may share the very same redistributable package (12.0.30501.0)?

    @Niels,
Maybe we cannot say it is not uploaded. We can see the package is named as
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 Update 4
So the package may only specific for one version and does not mean it should have Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
for Visual Studio 2013 Update 2
If you want to report anything you can consider use Connect:
    https://connect.microsoft.com/
However I don't think we need to report this case on Connect.
For your last question, since the version 30501 seems to be the update version of 21005, I think you will not have them together. Anyway, for this particular VC++ runtime, I would recommend you keep it update to date.
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019667?wa=wsignin1.0
Then you may get the latest features. And if you have any specific reason that you need a specific version, I think we can handle it case by case. For example, if you want to deploy you C++ application and you need a runtime version.
