Compiling and debugging woes

SQL Developer 3.2.20.09
I feel so dumb ...
I modified a package, now it won't compile. When I run the sql-File that holds package specification and body it rightly complains that there are errors. I tells me to check the compiler log. First question: where to I find the log?
Ok, than I navigate in the connection browser to the package body itself which is marked as erroneous. ok. I open it. I right click and choose "compile" in the context menu. I would expect now that it shows me a list of syntax errors. But it does not. Nothing happens.
How am I suppose to debug this now? Should I switch back to sql-plus?
thanks for any help!
stephan

Thanks for your help - but this seems to get even more tricky:
I've tried to do the same thing on a windows machine, and there it works without problems.
The instance of sqldeveloper I have problems with is on ubuntu linux, I have downloaded and installed Sql Developer 3.2.2 for other platforms.
Apart from not being able to compile the package I also miss all the usual icons in the code editor view. See https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8595447/img86.png
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks!
Stephan

  • SQL Server compilation and Debugging

    Hello,
I am trying to compile a SQL Server procedure but looks like the SQL Developer 3.2.20.09, I am using which is the latest treats the SQL Server code as read only, there is no option for compiling the code as is available for Oracle PLSQL. Am I missing something or doing something incorrectly ?
Also I would like to debug an Oracle Procedure using SQL Developer which is called from a Java apllication , can someone please let me know how this can be done or forward me links to some useful documentation on this.
    Thanks

There's no error message there, it's working!
You just didn't give the debugger an opportunity to stop.
    'DEBUGGER – START DEBUGGING OPTION
Set this to ‘Step Over.’ This allows you to start and run a debug session sans breakpoints. If you leave it at the default, starting a debug session will appear to ‘not work.’ This is because SQL Developer will enter debug mode and run until it finds a breakpoint, breaking condition, or exception. If you have none, it will execute to the end of your program. The ‘Step Over’ option will tell SQL Developer to stop execution at line 1 auto-magically.'

This is a golden opportunity to learn some Unix. The Fink project
    http://fink.sourceforge.net/
will permit you to quite painlessly install (in addition to what is already available when you install the developer tools that came with OS X) the excellent g77 (GNU Fortran 77) or g95 (GNU-related Fortran 95) compilers and crunch away.
The learning curve for command line tools is not as steep as you might think!
Depending on your needs, it could be as simple as
    g77 -o mybin mysource.f
    ./mybin < input.data
Snoop around the Unix forum Apple discussion group for more info. Good luck!

  • Remote compile and debug on Sun Studio

I am currently working with sun studio on my linux station.
is there a way to compile the source code that I edit on the Solaris server using solaris compiler (not Gnu compiler).
Is there a way to debug this program while I'm running the Sun studio session on the Linux.
Currently I have to logon to my server, start studio on it (set DISPLAY to my Linux) and work from the server.
    Tnx, Avikosan

I think your question has two parts:
Q: Can I compile on Solaris and generate code that will run on Linux?
A: No. Sun compilers do not support cross-compilation. You must build on a platform compatible with the target. To generate code to be used on Linux, you must build on Linux. Current releases of Sun compilers do not run on or generate code for Linux.
We have "technology previews" of Linux compilers on the Sun Studio web page. These compilers are not released, and are not fully functional. Go to
    http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio
click the "downloads" tab, then the "technology preview" menu item.
Q: Can I run the debugger and GUI on Linux?
A: Yes, if you are using Sun Studio 10 or later. The debugger and GUI are available in Linux versions. The Sun Studio 11 version is free. You can get it from the Sun Studio page listed above.

  • DEBUG, Compile and run by making connection with Run Manager

Can anybody tell me how the compile and run of the pl/sql package is done in SQL Developer? Will there be use of DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE?
Why I am getting the "package name can not be started in the database, because it is not in the database connection manager" how to solve this problem
    Thank you
Edited by: Higlander on Sep 22, 2010 12:30 PM

You you compile and debug a plsql package, it runs as if you were just running it from a prompt. The advantage of debugging is that you can set breakpoints in your code. Once those breakpoints are reached, execution is paused and you can look at all (well most) of you variables. No need to dbms_output your variables.
Never seen that error. What version are you using, and how your you initiating the debugger?

    Application Error - javax.servlet.ServletException: Invalid reqest -

On that way, debugging the application is not possible.
    Any idea what's wrong ?
I've heard there is a deployment tool document ? Where is it ?
    thanks for your help

    Hi--
None of our team has experience running JATO apps in JBuilder. The main
thing to check when running in an IDE is that the web.xml is properly
registered. Because you've received a JATO error, I assume it is in your
case. Therefore, it must be something else.
The error you sent means that the lookup for the LoginViewBean class failed.
This is probably a silly question, but are all of your classes compiled and
under the /WEB-INF/classes directory? Any other reason your application
    classes might not be found?

  • Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 "compile for debug"

Using Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 on Windows XP pro machine connecting to 9.2.0.4 database on AIX machine.
Trying to debug a procedure, in the navigator window, I rt-clk the procedure and select "Compile for Debug", then nothing happens. This happens for every procedure I've tried. I've been granted both DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE and DEBUG CONNECT SESSION. Any ideas?

This is the first I've used SQL Developer, so I'll take the blame. I had not noticed that the Messages Log does in fact tell me that the proc compiled. However, the debug icon (little red bug) was nowhere to be found.
I see now that I need to Edit, not Open, the proc in order to debug. If I had read the Help screens a little more closely, I would have seen that I needed to be in Edit mode. My bad. Thanx to all for your responses.

  • How to deploy and debug java web service in eclipes or using any other soft

    Hai,
can any one tell me how to deploy and debug java web service in eclipes or using any other software.
i have used tomcat web server and jdk1.4.0 to develop web service.
we have used web service to interact with MS outlook .
    bye
    sudhakar.m

    Hi Sudhakar,
If you are used to working with ant then you can very well use eclipse to deploy your web service.
You would usually have the ant script in the source root working directory. From eclipse if you select the build file from the navigator view and right click you will see a run ant option in the pop up menu.
Select that option and you would be able to see each targets with a checkbox select option. So define each target maybe one for wsdl2java conversion, one for compilation and one for deploying your web services. You can either make all of them run by having depends option on or you can run them individually as it takes your fancy.
I am not sure about debugging a web service yet.
    Hope this helps

  • Compiling and installing Tux On Ice, need a little help

I have a desktop system and a netbook that I would like to have hibernating when they aren't being used.  The wiki outlined roughly how to accomplish this with this page:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tuxonice
I downloaded from the AUR the kernel26-ice 2.6.38-4 to compile and install.  I managed to compile it (I think ... correctly I hope) but every time I try to get it installed with "mkinitcpio -p kernel26-ice.preset" the build fails with these errors:
    [root@blackyunzi ~]# mkinitcpio -p kernel26-ice
/etc/mkinitcpio.d/kernel26-ice.preset: line 5: /etc/mkinitcpio.d/kernel26-ice.kver: No such file or directory

I have tried to CD into the build directory just to make sure I was using the correct file but that has not helped.  I've never compiled my own kernel before today and I'm stymied as to what I'm doing wrong.  If it matters, I compiled it as a regular user in the folder where I downloaded it to.  The contents of my build directory:

    Hm... netbook.
If you don't mind trying bfs and bfq too, then you could give the pf-kernel that is mentioned in the wiki too a try:
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50956
    It has a repository here:
    [pfkernel]
    Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11734958/$arch
    and a thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103462
I'm not quite sure how netbook performance is affected by BFS...
It has the bonus to already be based on 3.0.

  • Plsql_code_type NATIVE and DEBUG true??

    Hi,
In the documentation i've read that we can use pl/sql debugging tools for program units compiled for interpreted mode (but NOT for those compiled for native mode).
    Then, if i have:
    alter session set plsql_code_type=native
alter package my_pkg compile DEBUGWhy can i specify DEBUG? Because it is compiled in native mode, and in native mode we cannot use debugging, isn't it? The last statement shouldn't have cause an error?
    Thanks

    Roger,
When I says alter session set plsql_code_type=native; it means all subsequent automatic recompilations of that library unit will use native (machine code) compilation. Ok.
After that I says, alter package my_pkg compile DEBUG; it means I am going to compile the package with DEBUG option and DEBUG option says compiler to compile and generate the code for debugger. Here debugger will read the compiled code in native compilation.
There is no error, simply you are going to provide the native compiled code to debugger.
Here one more parameter plays big role :
    PLSQL_DEBUG
PLSQL_DEBUG specifies whether or not PL/SQL library units will be compiled for debugging.
    Values:
true - PL/SQL library units will be compiled for debugging
false - PL/SQL library units will be compiled for normal execution
When PLSQL_DEBUG is set to true, PL/SQL library units are always compiled INTERPRETED in order to be debuggable.
When the value of this parameter is changed, it has no effect on PL/SQL library units that have already been compiled. The value of this parameter is stored persistently with each library unit.

  • Copied objects are compiled with debug True

I had an issue with copied packages/triggers/procedures that when they were copied showed up as compiled with debug status.
My sql developer client has a default setting of compilng PL/SQL code with optimization level = 0 , while our database has a default = 2.
When modifying this level and setting it to 0, the debug flag is turned on, although not specified in the sql developer client)
    preferences -> database -> PL/SQL -> Optimization Level = 2
select * from v$parameter where name like 'plsql%' returns
    888         plsql_debug      1             FALSE    FALSE
889         plsql_optimize_level     3             2             2 after setting the level to 0 the same query returns:
    888         plsql_debug      1             TRUE     TRUE
    889         plsql_optimize_level     3             0             0this compile with debug behavior is shown on oracle 10 and 11 databases.

I also have sqldeveloper version 3.2.20.09 and look up the value for optimizer in the preferences menu via preferences -> database -> PL/SQL (just as in my first message)
BTW I can still reproduce this issue (and 15 other dbas and developers at where I work) on both oracle 10 and 11.
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    "CORE     10.2.0.4.0     Production"
TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    and
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    "CORE     11.2.0.2.0     Production"
TNS for Linux: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
BTW We've been using sqldeveloper here since version 2.x. We found a workaround by setting the value for Optimization Level to 2, although you might not reproduce the issue, I suggest to keep it for others, although it seems not many others experience this issue.
