Compiling examples closes LabWindows/CVI

I have a NI USB-5132 module, with NI-SCOPE 3.7.  I can bring up the device in "Measurement and Automation Explorer", and sees it as "Dev1".  I can bring up NI-Scope Soft Front Panel, and toggle the device, read whatever I want to read.  However, I'm trying to run on my CVI/LabWindows 2009 platform, but when I try to compile ANY of the examples, the development software closes.  No error message....nothing.  When I try to create a new DAQmx task, it sees no available devices for ANY of the possible measurements.
Please help!  Otherwise, it would seem my work has purchased a very expensive method to click the exit button.

Hi Chris,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble! Could you please provide some more details regarding when you experience this crash? Does this crash occur when you compile all programs or just specific ones? What examples are you attempting to compile? If this is the first time that you are compiling and are experiencing this issue, please refer to the following known bugs in CVI 2009
LabWindows™/CVI™ 2009 and 2009 SP1 Known Issues
LabWindows/CVI may crash if compiling a project that includes LabWindows/CVI header files with a line containing the #pragma soft_reference statement
Compiling a file with a syntax error can cause LabWindows/CVI to crash.
If these known bugs are not relevant to your code, can you please post a WinDbg log. The following explains how to do this. Despite this article being applied to LabVIEW, this is relevant for CVI as well.

  • Interopérabilité entre labview et labwindows/CVI

    Bonjour,

  • How to Rotation 3D Image in LabWindows/CVI

    Hi All
    I have a 3D image and i want to rotate its x,y and z axis, how it is possible kindly help me.
    Regards
    Umer

    Hello Umer
    When you say that you want to rotate the 3D graph, you mean programmatically? as you can rotate the 3D object using your mouse once the code is running.
    To locate the examples in LabWindows/CVI that incorporate the 3D ActiveX Graph control, follow the steps below:
    Launch LabWindows/CVI.
    Browse to Help » Find Examples » Communicating with External Applications » ActiveX » General.
    3.  Select any of 3D projects which include
    3DGraph.prj, 3DGraphAxis.prj, 3DGraphColorMap.prj, and 3DGraphContours.prj.RegardsMart G

  • TCP using LabWindow/CVI ? ?

    Hi !
    I'm looking for ways to learn & use "TCP" communication ( Client /
    Server ) together with LabWindows/CVI.
    ( all examples at your site are for LabView only )
    Can you please let me know where to find an TCP Client / Server
    applications examples for LabWindows/CVI ??
    If posible i'll like the exact addresse of pages contains this
    examples/information !
    Also if posible i like to know if there is something about Ethernet or /
    and Lan ( Local Area Network ) in the LabWindows/CVI.
    I want to add that i know about the TCP Client/Server example in the
    LabWindow/CVI - Samples, but it is not complete - it is only a skeleton
    which not explain
    it all.
    I also want to know about the hardware i need to establishes a TCP
    connection !!
    Which cable should i use to connect the Server & Client computers ?
    Where exactly should i connect the cable in the computer ?
    It very importent for me to get full answer as soon.
    Thank you very much !!
    Regards
    Noam G.

    I would also like to see these examples, but I can help you on some of this. You don't really need any hardware (since you are accessing this site, I assume you have an ethernet card). For a cable, if you are connecting both computers to a LAN or the internet (direct or via a hub) use a RJ-45 ethernet cable. If you are connecting the computers directly to each other, you must use an ethernet crossover cable. The cables just connect into your ethernet port (where your internet access is plugged into now).
    Go here for more info on a crossover cable:

  • Example LabWindows/CVI code for NI4351

    Hi,
    I'm using an NI4351 PCI DAQ card with the Ni435x
    driver and LabWindows/CVI v5.5 (on Windows 98) to measure temperature
    and voltage levels. Are there any simple tested code examples that I
    could download, which use the NI435x driver function
    NI435X_Check_and_Read(), called from an asynchronous timer for
    continous scan? There are no problems when I use MAX (so hardware
    problem is ruled out), but my code yields
    occasional random temperature reading errors (looks like data
    corruption to me). The NI435x_ functions return no errors. Can I use
    lower level C driver functions instead of NI435X_Check(), NI435X_Read(), or NI435X_Check_and_Read()?
    What does MAX use behind the scene? Of course, the MAX setup only scans
    the one channel, so maybe this is why it works correctly. I have to
    scan one temperature channel and six voltage channels though.
    Many thanks,
    John.

    Humphreyy,
    thanks for the tip. I tried it but it did not work, the same errors were present. Are there any other suggestions. I have racked my brain to figure out why this is happening and have come up with nothing. I am also getting a "Warning" message concerning the "KsMedia.h" file that says "Warning: Excess characters in multibyte character literal ignored." The warnings trace back to the "typedef enum" section of that file. Could that be causing a ripple effect that produces the error I am seeing in the other header files I mentioned??
    I could really use your help and any more help that is available. I really don't want to use Visual C++, because this software is going to get more sophisticated and is to be used in NASA Langley's VISTAS simulator, an environment taylor made for National Instruments software.

  • Any LabWindows/CVI examples for SPI communication using DAQmx?

    I have a PXIe-6363 module in a PXI running as a real time target, and I'm trying to talk to an accelerometer that communicates with SPI.  I know the 6363 isn't one of the special modules built for SPI, but my understanding is it should be capable; the issue is just the programming.  I've seen examples of this for LabVIEW using DAQmx.  Are there any examples out there for doing it in LabWindows/CVI?
    I'm looking to save time and avoid reinventing the wheel here.  SPI is easy on an Arduino, so it should be doable in LabWindows/CVI, right?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hey Matt,
    I was unable to find any full examples of SPI communication with DAQmx in C. My best suggestion would be to use the LabVIEW examples and implement the same series of function calls to implement the LabVIEW code in C. The DAQmx C API is good about keeping a standard with naming conventions to map with the function names in LabVIEW.

  • I'm looking for examples of CAN control code with LabWindows CVI

    I'm looking for examples of CAN control code with LabWindows CVI.

    Hi,
    The NI-CAN driver installs some examples for both the frame API and Channel API (NI-CAN 2.0).
    The typical installation directory is:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MeasurementStudio\CVI\samples\nican.
    It might change depending on where you installed CVI.

  • Intercept LabWindows/CVI CLOSE event

    In my LabWindows UI the user can click the X on the top right to quit the application.
    I'd like to intercept that message to do various things before it gets to the TestStand Engine.
    I tried to use InstallWinMsgCallback for a WM_QUIT and WM_CLOSE but it doesn't get called.
    Thanks,

  • Permission Denied Error when calling Matlab script from LabWindows/CVI

    Hello,
    I am reading in data from a DAQ and am writing it to a .csv file in LabWindows/CVI.  I am then sending this data to Matlab to be filtered.  I would like the filtered data to be accessed by LabWindows/CVI so that I can display it as a strip chart.  I have gotten everything to work except the writing to a file in a Matlab script that is called from LabWindows/CVI.  I am basically using the shipped example in found in the activex demo. (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2994). I select the script that I want to run and each time it tries to open a file with write permissions I get a "Permission Denied" error.  This occurs when using fopen() in Matlab.  I have also tried using csvwrite() as well as dlmwrite().  Each one gives me a similar error.  The script currently does not try to do any data processing.  It just opens the file, if it is successful it then prints "hello" and then closes it.  The script works well when it is run in Matlab, just not when it is called in LabWindows/CVI.  Below is the script.  Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I am also open to using other approaches for sending data between Matlab and LabWindows/CVI.  Thanks in advance!!
    fclose('all');
    [file, errmsg] = fopen('out.txt', 'w');
    if(file<0)
        disp(errmsg)
    else
        fprintf(file, 'hello');
        fclose('all');
    end;
    [file, errmsg] = fopen('out.txt', 'w');
    if(file<0)
    disp(errmsg)
    else
     fprintf(file, 'hello');
    fclose('all');
    end;

    I am using Windows 7.  I am running CVI as an administrator and was able to get rid of the "Permission Denied" error by going into the User Account Controls in windows and changing it to "Never Notify".  However, this did not fix the problem of Matlab not being able to write to a file when the script is run from CVI.  In the Matlab code below, It now gets in to the "else", suggesting that fopen() returns a good file handle.  After getting in to the else statement, it will not actually write to the file, nor does it create it.  However, I can make changes to the plot settings and those appear.  Everything is functional when run from Matlab but when run from CVI, things get screwy with opening the file for writing.  It handles the read well.  It seems like there would have to be some file permission errors but, in the CVI program, I open and write to the file "in.csv".  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    clear;
    fclose('all');
    t = zeros(1000);
    t = csvread('in.csv');
    for i=1:1000
        t(i) = t(i)*4;
    end;
    [file, errmsg] = fopen('out.txt', 'w');
    if(file<0)
        disp(errmsg)
    else
        fprintf(file, 'goodbye');
        for i=1:1000
            %t(i) = t(i)*3;
            fprintf(file, '%f,', t(i));
        end;
        fclose(file);
        plot(t/3, t);
        ylabel('t');
        xlabel('Time (s)');
        title('Is this really working?!?');
    end;
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Trying to use a Microsoft C/C++ Header in LabWindows/CVI, will not work?

    Is there a way to get Microsoft based Header(s) files to compile in LabWIndows/CVI.  It appears that LabWindows/CVI does not like the words "BOOLEAN" or "HANDLE" in the header file for an example?
    Is there a switch that I need to set in LabWindows ENVR to accept this MS C/C++ Header files?

    Please see "Will Microsoft C/C++ Header file(s) work in LabWindows/CVI?" thread in the LabWindows/CVI forum.

  • Labwindows/CVI and Android

    Hello,
    I work in Labwindows/CVI on Windows XP for the moment, I developpe a software and I would like to know if it will be possible to make a software, the same that this one to run on Windows, which runs on Android please ?
    My software uses a SQL database (SQL Server) and an OPC Server (Phoenix Contact).
    If it's possible, how can I do to create this application and install on a tablet for example?
    I just know that a "NI LabWindows™/CVI Run-Time Module for Linux" exists, but I don't know if this module allows me to install my software on a tablet...
    Thanks.
    Bye Karine

    In addition Android programs are normally written in Java, which has nothing
    to do with CVI. But I read a tutorial some time ago that showed how to
    compile C for Android. So at a very basic level of a pure ANSI C program
    with no (or duplicate) user interface, it is possible.

  • How to use CAN256 and CAN257 in Labwindows CVI?

    I am trying to learn about CAN programming in LabWindows CVI. None of the samples do anything other than generate cryptic error messages. I do not have a card or interface device yet, but reading in the help files I found this:
    "NI-CAN provides a virtual CAN card with two interfaces, CAN256 and CAN257. The two virtual interfaces are connected by a virtual bus. When you write CAN frames to one virtual interface, those frames are received by the other virtual interface, and can be read as channels. This feature allows you to read and write CAN data in the same manner as two real CAN interfaces connected by a real CAN cable. The conversion does not require real NI CAN hardware, and your application is not required to check for specific CAN IDs."
    I modified the Waveform ouput project and add CAN256 to the dropdown in the uir file. However when I run it, I get the same error message as always, error -1074388725.
    Is there an example CVI code someplace to demonstrate the use of these virtual channels?

    Thanks Drew.
    Ultimately, my customer provided me with a WriteCAN256.vi and ReadCAN257.vi that were perfect for my needs. The WriteCAN256.vi along with my NI USB 8473s allowed me to provide data collection on multiple CAN devices and to verify that my Software can handle all data types from CAN devices.
    Note: My customer allowed me to share his .vi's. They are enclosed ...

  • How to get bar graph in word in labwindow/CVI ?

    how to get bar graph in word in labwindow/CVI ?

    ashwinic9,
    spawning your question over more and more threads (the present one, this one and this other one) won't give you a faster answer; instead, it will irritate forum users!
    Especially if you have at your disposal a fast way to perform a test. I pointed you some days ago to word report example, that writes a table to a word document: did you tried changing the graph into a bar graph and generating the report? I have done it for you and the result is OK, as you can see in the attached document.
    Now, since the example works well, there must be something in your particular situation that prevents the graph to be shown; that is: you must add some more data on your actual problem and maybe a small example that exposes the problem.
    But please: keep active only this discussion and let the other threads die!
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • How does the URL of DataSocket constitute?And how to use it in LabWindows/CVI ?

    Hi !
    There's a problem puzzled me some days.How does the URL of DataSocket constitute ? And how to use it in LabWindow/CVI ?
    For example.I have downloaded a code in http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3787.I want to make it work properly.So I configure my DataSocket Server Manger according to the URL of this statement.
    DS_Open ("dstp://weather.natinst.com/weather/current",
    DSConst_ReadAutoUpdate, DSCurrentCallback, NULL,
    &dsCurrentHandle);
     My DateSockket Server Manger is configured as:
    However,it could not work properly when I debug it.
    There's a introduction at the top of the code."You may need to replace the references to weather.natinst.com to 130.164.140.10 if the DNS isn't working properly."So,I modified the statement into
    DS_Open ("dstp://130.164.140.10/weather/current",
    DSConst_ReadAutoUpdate, DSCurrentCallback, NULL,
    &dsCurrentHandle);
    but,it did work properly.
    We want to communicate with other computers via the URL of  DataSocket in LabWindows/CVI.Whereas,how could we make it ia the URL ?
    If anyone could help me solve this problem,I would appreciate it very much !
    Best regards.

    Hi !
    Thank you very much for your reply! I will accept your advice.
    Besides,I have another question.If I want to visit other computers or other websites,how does the URL of DataSocket  I constitute ? Does the URL has any relation with the DataSocket Server Manger ?If does,how to configure the DataSocket Server Manager to let them connected.If they have no relation,how to use the DataSocket Server Manger ?
    After all,I want to know how to use it in LabWinows/CVI ?
    Thank you very much !
