Compiling for Intel chip

I heard that the compiling of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express might not have been done yet for the Intel chip. Is this true?

    Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's that came from an imac intel chip (Jan 2007) ONTO an ibook power pc G3? The ibook only has a CD drive and I believe the OS installs are CD's not DVD's as there are 2 of them. The ibook currently is running OS 10.3.9 with 23 GB on the HD at the moment. I may be able to free up some space though by dumping Microsoft Office. I know for sure I had 10.4.7 on there before but I got a used HD and there is only 10.3.9 on it. Sigh.

    The cost of the Full Logic Pro 9 from the App Store is less than the cost of the discontinued Boxed Upgrade set for Logic Studio (if you could find one) ... so you might as well purchase the full Logic Pro 9 from the App store and be done.

    I am currently running  3.16.4-1-ARCH #1 and I tried to compile the kernel module for Intel Vtune XE 2013 (r17).
    Unluckily, GCC stops reporting the following errors:

    As the source code points out:

    The missing symbols are expected to be found under /usr/lib/modules/3.16.4-1-ARCH/build/arch/x86/include/asm/fixmap.h, but it seems that they are not present anymore.
    Grepping the headers could not help at all.
    What am I missing here ?

    It looks like the macros:

    got dropped after v3.15
    I wonder if I need to downgrade.

    Have no idea - But if it is a new problem with exactly the same kind of material that was previously used. Then my trouble shooting guide might help.
    If You
    • used a new Camera - file codec might be a sort that don't work
    • Your main hard disk might get too filled up
    Else try
    Trouble
    When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
    ( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.

    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
    _ now select all five options presented
    _ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
    (I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

    I have an EMac that is a PPC. I have XCode 2.3. If I change my Architecture to i386, it seems I have a problem with gcc 3.3.
    I get the following error:
    gcc-3.3: installation problem, cannot exec "ccplus": No such file or directory.
    I have looked for the apple version of the gcc compiler standalone, but I can not find it.

    It sounds like you're using gcc 3.3 to compile your program. You have to use gcc 4 to build for Intel. Your problem is a little surprising since Xcode 2 uses gcc 4 by default.
    To tell Xcode to build your Intel code with gcc 4, you must add the build setting GCCVERSIONi386. Give this setting the value 4.0, and Xcode will use gcc 4 to build the Intel version of your program.

  • How can I use the "gcc compiler and emacs editor" in Solaris 8 for Intel?

    I installed Solaris 8 for Intel to my desktop computer.
    After the installation, I found I couldn't use the companion software (the software CD included in the Multilinugal Media Kit for Solaris 8) - especially the emacs editor and gcc compilers.
    I certainly installed the companion software to my computer. And I can identify that those softwares are
    really installed to my system. In order to check out whether I installed them or not, I went to the "System Administrator" and opened the "Solaris Product Registry", in which I identified that all the files in
    the companion software were succesfully installed in my computer.
    However, when I open terminal or console box and tries to use those
    software, the system responds that "there is no emacs or gcc."
    Why I cannot use those things?
    Did I install the companion software wrong?
    I really don't understand why I can't use them.
    For your reference, I saw the directories "/usr/bin" and "usr/ccs/bin"
    too.
    In /usr/bin I typed

    and no such command.
    In /usr/ccs/bin

    and also no such command
    was what I had as a response.
    If I installed the companion software CD correctly and if they are installed somewhere in my computer,
    where I can find them and how I can use those softwares?

    gcc and emacs install in /opt/sfw. You should change your path statement to include /opt/sfw/bin and should obtain the FAQ from sunfreeware.com. The FAQ answers all your questions.

  • Intel chip due for powermac?

    I want to purchase a new computer in the near future. I was really intrigued by the newer faster Intel chip that the imac now has. I need a high powered power mac because I use huge files with tons of graphics programs. Does anyone know if they are planning on making the powermac with the Intel chip in the near future. If so, I will wait to purchase a new computer. I am not in a bad hurry so I want to spend my money where I want it. Thanks!

    Last I heard, all new Mac are scheduled to move to Intel CPUs by the end of 2006. This may happen much faster than planned, as they are already 6 months ahead of schedule with this first round of Intel based Macs, but that's only speculation.
    It will happen, just nobody knows exactly when.

  • Failing to load drivers (xf86-video-intel) for Intel GMA x3100

    I'm installing Archlinux on my Compaq 6710b. This is the problem:
    No matter what I try, Xorg -configure fails to load the intel drivers for my 965 gma (x3100).
    Weird is that a week ago, I did an install with the pre-release iso's and it worked flawlessly detecting everything as it should and by itself. Now with the new iso's I did several installs, but I can't get the xf86-video-intel driver to work, it's giving me the following error message:

  • Best -xchip option for Intel Q9?50 processors?

    The StudioExpress distribution from July 2008 supports some new -xchip arguments for chips like the Penryn and even has an -xchip argument for the Nehalem.
    I have an Intel Q9650 (I think that means its a Wolfdale, but I could be wrong) in my brand new workstation. In the rare cases when I want to maximize performance, what -xchip or related option should I be using?
    If I just use
    -xtarget=native -m64 -xarch=native
    will the "compile for the host processor" be able to tell enough about the Q9650 in my workstation so that it
    chooses the correct settings for things like -xcache?

    You don't need to use -xarch with -xtarget, -xtarget is a macro that will expand to include -xchip and -xarch etc.
    For cc you can simply do a
    -xtarget=native64 -#
    -xtarget=native -#
    or -fast -#
    and you will see what the macro expanded to, it shows the -xarch and -xchip for your native machine.
    For CC, replace -# with a -v.

  • 3D acceleration for intel video cards

    Hi!
    I have an Intel extreme graphics 2 (865G chipset) video card. What packages do I need to install for 3d acceleration (i tested xmoto and other games, they don't work well). Before arch, I had fedora on this machine & all was ok with 3d acceleration.

  • I have an iMac G5 isight (20" screen) Leopard OS 10.5.8 I do not have an intel chip. I am unable to open movie links on facebook using Adobe flash player. I called Adobe Systems and they said Adobe no longer supported computers that did not have intel chi

    I have an iMac G5 (20 inch screen) i sight (no intel chip).Leopard OS 10.5.8. Recently I went on Facebook and tried to open a movie site someone had sent me on Facebook andwhen I tried to open the video on Facebook, I was told  I had to upgrade my Adobe Flash Player. i tried to do this, but turns out that Facebook is requiring folks to have an intel chip in order to view movies...this is outrageous!  Just think of all the folks in the world who have great running pre intel chip Apple computers. I called the Adobe Help line and was told that I really needed to buy a new computer....no thanks. How do I find a way to get a new version of Adobe for Facebook and youtube. I wish Apple could develop a way to have intel chips installed in the older computers. If you have any suggestions on this please let me know.

    Either get a screen cleaning cloth, or carefully us a slightly damp lint-free cloth and dry off with a dry link-=free cloth.
    As to Flash Videos: I am in a similar same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube and FaceBook for example) are fine.
    For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.

    Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:

    But there is a workaround!
    Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
    Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
    Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
    I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

  • Is there a conflict with the Intel chip and certain web content?

    Just curious about something...
    Somewhat new to OSX...I'm noticing that certain video content,(specifically Comedy Central) won't play for me in Safari, or Firefox browsers. I have Windows Media Player 9, but the plug in or application won't launch when these clips come up. I've noticed on some Power PC machines the clips play in Safari and appear formatted for Quick Time.(Despite the site saying they're designed to play in Media Player 9) Is there some preference that I don't know about? Also how do I install and uninstall plugins for these browsers? Or is it just the Intel chip...I haven't had a problem with any other site but this one.

    Web content not displaying will never be a hardware issue with any computer. You must install the plugins necessary to view it. All plugins are Universal now, except Windows Media, but you can get the Universal beta.
    Windows Media - either use Ho Lee's suggestion or download Flip4Mac Universal beta (look on Google).
    Real Media - get RealPlayer 10 Universal Binary.
    The Flash Player and Quicktime should already be installed. Make sure you have all Apple updates as well.
