Compiling PHP with MySQL

Hello all,
I am having trouble compiling php 5.2 (also tried 5.3). This is my configure line:
=======
./configure with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs with-mysql=/opt/mysql/mysql
=======
When I run "make", I get the following error:
=======
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
mysql_set_character_set ext/mysql/php_mysql.o
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to sapi/cli/php
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `sapi/cli/php'
=======
Here are my machine details:
=======
@[machine-name]-/usr/local/php5.2 # uname -a
SunOS [machine-name] 5.10 Generic_138889-03 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris
@[machine-name]-/usr/local/php5.2 # isainfo -kv
64-bit amd64 kernel modules
=======
PHP compiles fine when I do it without MySQL. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you need additional information.
Thank you.

Hi,
first of all please mind that PHP 5.2 is out of support by the PHP developers on php.net. To receive bug fixes petc. you should use PHP 5.3.
Secondly it is worth noticing that there are three function libraries (extensions) which allow accessing the MySQL database. One is the classic "mysql" extension, one is called mysqli, with "i" as in improved, and a driver for the PDO database abstraction - PDO_mysql. You are only activating one of these, in most situations you want all three of them gor maximum application compatibility.
Now with PHP 5.3 PHP bundles an implementation complete of the MySQL Client functionality. So linking against a local installation is not needed. This implementation is called mysqlnd - MySQL native driver.
To build w/ mysqlnd and all three function libraries use a configure line like this:
./configure with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs with-mysql=mysqlnd with-mysqli=mysqlnd with-pdo-mysql=mysqlnd
If you have a strong reason for 5.2 or using libmysql I'd need more information, like which version of mysql was installed. Was it self-compiled or binaries from mysql.com etc. But I hope the above is fine.

  • Compiling PHP with SOAP/Iconv/OpenSSL support

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this but the other topics seem even less related.
I'm trying to compile PHP with SOAP and SSL on a Mac for use with Salesforce.com (it works without any issues on Gentoo and RedHat). Anytime I try to connect I get an invalid SOAP header error. It seems to be happening because the Salesforce SOAP server requires SSL connections and I don't have SSL enabled, but it's hard to backtrace. Regardless, I can't get SSL or iconv support working.
I've installed OpenSSL both from Macports and from source using the default ./config options, neither method worked. It may be related to some issues I'm having getting iconv working as well (which I also can't seem to get right, it's installed via Macports).
Here's my PHP configure, if anyone can let me in on what I'm doing wrong that would be great!!! Thanks in advance!

  • Can not compile php with "-with-oracle=/usr/local/oracle"

I work on Linux engine with a x86_64 architecture and use Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 client for x86_64 linux
so - when i try to compile php with the oracle argument (-with-oracle=/usr/local/oracle) i get everytime the same error:
checking Oracle version... configure: error: Oracle needed libraries not found
I think, maybe i have a problem because configure not found my "64 bit libraries"...
Can someone help me? I am realy helpless...
    thx

Did you really want the obsolete "oracle" driver - why not use --with-oci8?
The user comments in http://www.php.net/oci8 have some good info on 64bit configuration.

i suggest filing a feature request through the bug tracker.
As for why such features may not be compiled in is that whoever maintains the package may have never had the need to have such features in php or experienced any issue because of it. You will experience this with many distros so I suggest not getting accusatory and simply request the feature through the proper channels.
Each persons needs and experience are different and that is why developers write their code to encompass as many features as their users request.  How robust a package needs to be in arch is up to people like you giving the crucial feedback.
(btw i don't see why your request would not be granted. I suggest the feature request though because i know the maintainer of the PHP package is not a frequent visitor to this forum but he will get your request if you make to the bug tracker)

  • CMS for Dreamweaver and PHP with MySQL

    Hello
I am at a medium level with Dreamweaver MX and 8. I have
created a dynamic website running PHP and MySQL. The site sells
luxury yachts (resales). What I need is a simple, not too custom
code heavy content management system to allow the client to update
dynamic text areas and upload images via a web browser (IE7 PC).
The site needs the ability to input new boats, and delete sold
boats (flush out the database items).
Has anyone got a recommendation for some CMS software,
preferably Mac OSX PPC and running on a server under linux.
I don't mind buying it, in fact rather do that than risk
    shareware going forward.

I have the exact same need. Looks like nobody had any
suggestions for the original poster. Perhaps someone can make a
recommendation this time? I too am looking for a commercial
    product, rather than open-source.

  • Compile PHP with GD and IMAP

    Hello,
I want to use GD and IMAP functions in PHP.
    PHP Version 5.3.3
But Apple doesn't compile those functions in the default setup.
Who can help me to install the functions, or can tell me where i can find a manual?
    Tnkx!

    I've got imap installed.
    1. Grab this file from my dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8756757/imap.so
    2. Now move it to the following directory: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/
    3. Then just edit /etc/php.ini and under the extension commands towards the bottom add this line:
    extension=/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/imap.so
For the GD, here is a link to a pdf tutorial which will tell you all the steps to do for it:

Here are the requirments for 10.5.8:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    512MB of memory
    DVD drive for installation
    9GB of available disk space
You have to purchase the upgrade from Apple for $129. You ned to call and order ti since it is not listed in their on-line store. You can also try eBay or Craig's List.

  • Strange PHP compile issue -- old MySQL client version

I've successfully compiled PHP 5.2.8 from source on two Xserve G5s running 10.4.11. It seems to run all the web apps fine. But when I look at phpinfo(), it reports that the MySQL Client API version is 4.1.22. Previously, when using Marc Liyanage's package version (5.2.4), the MySQL Client API was something like 5.0.45 (at least reasonably current with the MySQL version I had installed).
So I have two main questions:
    1. What determines the PHP's MySQL Client API version? Is it some code in the PHP source that gets compiled? (In which case, why is the latest PHP source using an old MySQL Client.)
    2. How can I make the PHP I compiled use the latest MySQL Client API version? (Since I've seen warnings that this could cause problems. Incidentally, I'm using MySQL 5.0.67.)
If it helps, here are the compile options I've used, per instructions online ( http://downloads.topicdesk.com/docs/UpdatingPHP_on_OS_XServer.pdf ):
    ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php5 --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --with-apxs --with-ldap=/usr --with-kerberos=/usr --enable-cli --with-zlib-dir=/usr --with-libxml-dir=/usr --enable-exif --enable-ftp --enable-mbstring --enable-sockets --enable-fastcgi --with-iodbc=/usr --with-curl=/usr --with-config-file-path=/private/etc --with-mysql=/usr --with-mysql-sock=/var/mysql/mysql.sock
I can post the config.log as well if that's helpful.

I'm posting this information here as its the top hit when searching apple.com for mac php recompile
There is a MUCH easier/safer way to install a missing php module then doing a full recompile. Please see and read the comments:

  • Php 5.0.3-2 with mysqli

I requested that the new php5 package be compiled with mysqli and low and behold it was!!  The only problem is, I can't figure out how the hell to activate it.   php.net only mentions that the package must be compiled with the --with-mysqli=mysql_config_path/mysql_config option.  Assuming this was in fact done (as Judd said it was in his reply to my feature request), I have no idea what other steps are necessary to implement it.  php.ini does not have an extension for mysqli, nor does phpinfo reveal that this extension is enabled.  When I try to use the mysqli class in a script, I get
Class 'mysqli' not found in /home/httpd/html/mysqlitest.php on line 2
I imagine there is some other step necessary here to make this work, but I am missing it.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have a problem with mysqli. From my phpinfo():
    --with-mysqli=shared
    Moreover:
    benol ~ $ slocate mysqli
    /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20050922/mysqli.so
    benol ~ $
I still can't use mysqli - objective or procedural. Is there something in php.ini I have to change?

  • Dreamweaver CS5.5 Mobile Apps with PHP and MYSQL?

    Hello,
I don't have Dreamweaver CS5.5 yet and I've been trying to search for information on this but I couldn't find any. I've been learning PHP and been developing with MYSQL with Dreamweaver CS5 but I wanted to know if I can use the same tags and everything if I would to build a Mobile App using the new Dreamweaver CS5.5 (http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs-55-web-premium-feature-tour-/dreamweaver-cs-55-jquery-mobile- pages/). I overlooked at the video and it seems pretty easy building an app. So is PHP and MYSQL easily integratable? Are there any examples that I might be able to check out?
    Thanks!

No. PHP is a server-side scripting language that requires a server (or server-like environment) to run.
An iPhone (or Android) application does not allow for a "built-in" server (which is resource intensive and has scary security implications). You just can't build an application with PHP/MySQL for a mobile device. Instead you can build a web service that your HTML/JavaScript mobile application can then communicate with. This is the only supported way you can use PHP/MySQL in a mobile app. Again: the PHP/MySQL should reside on a server and your HTML/JS mobile app can then communicate with that web service. That's what instapaper and other applications do.
Frankly, just make a web application that's mobile device friendly and you'll:
    1) Avoid all the messiness of the app stores
    2) Have greater control over what your web app can do (don't have to tow the Apple/Google line)
    3) Have a web app that can work across mulitple mobile devices as well as standard web browsers (i.e. more audience = more $).
    4) Future proof your application (pushing updates to your server and everyone using your web app is updated)
Otherwise, read-up on Adobe AIR and what it supports and remember, the best apps are written natively for the platform (i.e. want to write an app for an iPhone? Learn Objective-C and use xCode on a Mac. Want to write an app for Motorola Xoom? Learn the Android SDK and use inteliJ).

  • Using MySql and PHP with Dreamweaver on a Mac

    Hello all,
As always if the answers to these questions are obscenely
    obvious please humour me.
I use XHTML and CSS in my websites and realise that it is
time that I dabbled with SSI. So I've started using PHP.
However, I have been following the installation directions of
MySql and am running into problems. I am installing the relavent
software and am then unable to find it on my Mac, the startup files
are there but the actual MySql data appears to not be installed
despite my computer telling me it is...... I am using a G3 running
OSX 10.4 is this good enough? I noticed talk of needing a PowerPC
or Intel mac. Is this the case?
Also, would I need MySql installed on my actual computer if
the my servers have it already? And does Dreamweaver 8 have both of
    these programs installed as standard?
If you could help out I would be very appreciative as I would
like to learn this stuff and I appear to be struggling at the
    outset....
    Cheers
    M.A

MySQL is a relational database management system that
    comprises a
database server and several utility programs. Although you
    install it
like any other program on a Mac, the similarity stops there.
First, the point about PowerPC and Intel Macs is that there
    are
different versions of the MySQL installer for each type of
    processor.
I'm pretty sure that a G3 is OK, but you must choose the
    PowerPC version
of MySQL, not the 64-bit or x86 (Intel Mac) version.
Once you have installed MySQL, you need to drag the
    MySQL.PrefPane icon
from the disk image onto your System Preferences. This
    installs a
Preference Pane that enables you to start and stop MySQL. The
    Preference
Pane has an option to start up MySQL automatically, but in my
experience, it doesn't work on Tiger. You need to open the
    Preference
Pane, and click Start MySQL Server each time you start your
    computer.
The best way to work with MySQL is to use a graphical
    interface, such as
phpMyAdmin. As Osgood has mentioned, I have written a book
    about PHP and
Dreamweaver, which goes into all the necessary details. It's
    also very
Mac-friendly with separate instructions where necessary for
    PC and Mac.
