Completely insane:  brand new, 13.3". attach DVI/monitor cable airport drop

Okay, going insane debugging this through router/wireless, etc. I have two macbooks. An older 15 inch, 2007. works absolutely flawless with my wireless (netgear wireless).
I have a brand spanking new 13.3" sitting right next to it. WORKS FINE with wireless. now, I attach it to my rig, monitor, using the minidv cable (monoprice), and BOOM, wireless instantly stops working on the 13.3. the 15 inch. totally fine on the same network.
i have a ping running in a terminal. will work for hours, connect the monitor: ping immediately fails.
completely driving me nuts. do i need to buy another DVI cable. what's the connection between the airport card and connecting the monitor???

still confused, because my monitor works FINE with my 15.5 powerbook with no adapter.
it MUST be the apple approved mini DVI adapter that is causing this interference.
With these sorts of issues it is often the entire system (ie computer, monitor, cable, adaptor) in toto that is involved in producing the interference, aloharich. Sometimes changing any single element is all that is needed to overcome the problem. It is their interaction that generates the issue. Once they are all connected they are electrically "one" in some senses.
i'm sure my solution is buy SOMETHING NEW: adapter, monitor, wireless router...
Before going down that path I'd be trying things like simply changing the channel in use on your wireless router (you do this by accessing the router's own set-up processes using your web browser). Sometimes even simply relocating things will make a difference (try shifting the router , or the monitor location a few feet, or using a different power circuit for one or the other of them, or paradoxically, connecting them all to the same circuit, etc).

  • My Macbook Pro 13' from 2011 keeps kicking me off the internet, even though my internet service (complete with brand new router) shows strong bars. Any help?!

I've had this 13 Inch Macbook Pro complete with the Lion since October 2011. I've been having trouble with the internet connection. I keep getting 'unable to connect to the internet' or 'website unavaiable'. We have a brand new router, so we know for certain the router isn't going out. Both of my parents computers connect just fine without getting kicked out. I thought maybe it was the seat, so I switched chairs and rooms and positions, but that doesn't seem to help. I check my internet connection and always says 'connected' with full bars. I've tried different browswers, using Safari and Google Chrome. It's frustrating not being able to get online and get kicked off in the middle of whatever you're doing for a reason you can't figure out. Any help/suggestions? It's been going on for a month or so now.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

  • Setup not completed on brand new Satellite L510

Started with brand new L510, I dont think setup completed properly, didn't have start up guide so didn't realize was going to take so long, Turned off , so now every time we restart keep getting "setup is preparing your computer for first use" and then welcome to windows 7, and system preparation tool out of box experience, we click ok and get fatal error occured while trying to sysprep machine" have been reading through forum and tried to press F8 on start up but do not get repair my computer option.
Any ideas where to now, am a novice at all this.

    >... didn't have start up guide so didn't realize was going to take so long,
That's the problem. After first start recovery image installation will be started and many different drivers and software components must be installed properly. This procedure can take over one hour and should not be interrupted.
I presume notebook stuck now on some certain step and installation cannot be continued.
F8 option will work when the installation is finished properly.
    What to do now?
I don't know where you have bought this notebook but maybe you can talk with your local dealer about your problem. if they have the same notebook in their showroom you can ask them if they can create recovery disc for you and you can use it for OS installation.
Second option is to order installation disc directly from Toshiba under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx but you must pay for it.
Let me know what do you think about all this.

  • Brand new 260x sometimes wont turn monitor back on

I got a MSI R7 260x last month and put it in my old system and when I'd step away from my pc and monitor would turn off after a few min, when I got back nothing would make the monitor go back on until I restarted by pushing the restart button. I didnt worry too much because I figured that maybe going from NVIDIA drivers to Intel to AMD did something funny. Since I was about to rebuild my pc with some new parts and a fresh Windows install I pushed my worry aside.
Now on my rebuilt pc with fresh Windows, I have the same problem although it isnt currently happening every day. More like every other day. I've tried both the drivers from MSI and from AMD and the same problem happens either way.
    any ideas?

you are using correct and latest vbios for your card
about advises i already give you before:
I'll try clearing cmos but I dont have another pc I can test in and even if I did, I'd have to use that other pc for a week or more, waiting for the problem to occur again. I'll consider trying a backup PSU if it happens again.
Have you seen the reviews on newegg? Seems to be a widespread problem for this GPU across multiple brands. Since this video card was released over a year ago (I think) and the issue wasnt fixed, is it safe to assume neither AMD nor MSI are working on a fix?
I've seen some people say that going into AMD Overdrive and reducing memory clock settings to 850Mhz fixes the issue. Wouldnt this reduce performance? An other suggestion is to increase the power limit setting. The thinking is that the GPU sometimes has issues coming out of power saving mode.

  • Setting up brand new Time Capsule and it asks for a Password????

Okay, so I'm attempting to setup my girlfriend's new Time Capsule with her brand new MacBook Pro but when I access Airport Utility and it tells me there's a problem with the Time Capsule accessing the internet, I then click to continue to troubleshoot the Time Capsule and it asks for a password. Now, the Time Capsule has never been used before and is fresh out of the box. WHy is there a password? I will say this detail:
That the brand new MacBook Pro that she recently purchased, she had all over her old data and files and settings transferred from her old MacBook. I don't know if that means that it automatically installed a password or anything, but I tried using the computer administrator password and that didn't work. ANyone have any idea what's going on?

jkwells84, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sometimes it does help to read some documentation. Like most routers, the Time Capsule has an admin password to keep others from being mischievous and changing your settings.
The default admin password is "public."

  • My brand new out the box airport extreme won't let anything connect to it.

My brand new out the box 5th gen (2013) airport extreme won't let anything connect to it. I've tried several setups from sratch by the book. multiple resets and restores still nothing. It just keeps telling mt that the password is in correct even though it is 100% right.
My curren set up is as follows. Phone Line -> ADSL2+ router -> Airport extreme. There is also an old airport express running of the router, this was done because the airport extremem was failing to work.
    Trying to connect:
    2x iPhone 4s
    2x macbook air
    2x Mac Pro.

You will want the Extreme to be in bridge mode if it is currently disabled. (see image below)
This will allow the ADSL2+ router to perform two important functions for your entire network: 1) Provide both the DHCP & NAT services, and 2) Provide PPPoE support to allow access to your ADSL ISPs network.
If the Extreme is left in its default state, a router, it will conflict with the first item and you will have want is known as a "double NAT" condition. Something you will want to avoid.

  • I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? Please help!

I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? I tried using icloud on my iphone but it stated that I have never back up my phone before. So I guess my iCloud data is gone too? But I have back up my mac in my harddrive using time machine. So how do I get my old itune library back? Please help! Thanks!

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Brand new Macbook 13" - external display won't detect through mini dvi-dvi

As per title, it's a brand new Macbook 13" white plastic, (so version is whatever the recent model is.)
As the adaptors are an absolute rip-off, my brother posted me his old one, which he swears was working, and I have no reason to disbelieve him. I've not got another mac to test it on. If it IS the adaptor, then I'll just have to mortgage the house and buy a new one, but I'd like to rule out anything first...(why DO Apple insist on making what must be several thousand % markup on Chinese stuff when it's an essential thing that should have been provided with the Mac like they used to? Anyway....)
What happens is that it either flickers once, or just does nothing. Either way, it doesn't detect another display. Anything else I could or should try before I splash the cash?

How are you getting from miniDVI to HDMI? (adapter(s) type?)
Have you been able to test your macbook on another tv (or DVI monitor?)
It could be a software thing (e.g. related to a system update) as in this thread:

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • My brand new ipad freezes completly on safari

I have a brand new ipad. Safari won't work at all. Frozen. Can cooneect to web through Istore and wifi. tried restoring factory setting. makes no difference?

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't help - clear Safari and restart.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
A third thing that you can try is to reset your iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Brand new ipod nano will work when attached by cable either to a power adaptor or usb port but stops immediately when disconnected, despite being put on charge with different adaptors. Battery indicator remains constantly on lightning flas symbol and whit

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.

I am trying, unsuccessfully, to export an iphoto smart album- 12,000 photos, no movies- (information is showing 31GB total) to a brand new 32GB scandisk flash stick. A caution msg keeps saying "there is not enough space to complete this" Help!

You need a larger drive or an external drive - they OS needs a minimum of 10GB just for normal operation so you are already experiancing degraded preformance - if yo do not get more space you will start losing data
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Brand New Build - Completing Installation Hangs

    Hey Guys,
I just bought all the following components for a new build:
    Gigabyte GA 965P-S3 MOBO
    Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8Ghz)
    1GB (2x512) Corsair DDR2 (667) RAM
    200Gb HGST SATA300 HDD
    256Mb XFX 7600GS GPU
    Pioneer DVR-112DBK
    And...Windows Vista Home Basic.
OK, so hardware wasn't a problem, had everything hooked up and neat within 2 hours.
Plug in the power and turn it on (it's alive!) with the Windows DVD in the drive, and boots to Vista installation...choose language/enter product key/accept licence blah blah...Copying Files...Expanding Files...Installing updates...computer reboots, back to installation.
Now the problem, the installation screen comes back up and displays ticks by all of the previous steps, and has the Completing Installation unticked and the three dots...waiting...waiting...waiting.
And thats it, Vista installation will go no further than that. Have left the installation on overnight and nothing happens. The HDD light will flicker every so often, and stay on constantly for a few seconds and then go off for ages.
After a while, I got fed-up of waiting, so I installed XP Pro and that worked first time like a charm, setup was complete in no longer than 45 minutes and within an hour all drivers had been setup.
I can't think why anything would impeed the installation, everything was spec'd to work with Vista.
I have tried 'unplugging the monitor cable' and toning-down the bios settings, but there was still no joy.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I found a simple way to do things, and have done some home work.  I found out that most of the systems that are having problems with Vista are not realy Vista ready.   I have a laptop that was not build for Vista I have installed Vista premium edition on it. With the help of the guys at Munksupport Their service is free just clcik on th elive help sign on the right.
But here. all we have to do is get standard hardware devices, most of the newer hardware devices are not ready and if you are going use brand new hardware devices, get ready for a lot of hard work. I use to have problem with application not working properly, as The guys at MunkSupport proved, the older hardware devices that you are able to find drivers for under XP, that worked will work under Vista.
If you are not able to configure an XP system by going to the manufactures website and downloading and having that device running under XP forget trying to run Vista on that device. Most of these new devices will wirk well under XP because XP have drivers for thsoe devices in its drivers folder, C:\windows\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab. Most device drivers are found their, that's why when you install some devices you do not need to install the drivers for it. Windows will find the device and install it for you.
The disk tha came with the device are often time updated drivers that ad functionallity to the device. For Vista they are not ready, that why we are having so many problems, their are confliting applications, and no one was ready for Vista release.  Older hardware may give you a slower performance but they  are the working ones.
When you install Vista, it reorders the driver.cab folder, they calle it the driver store now. and most of the support for thsoe drivers are not in that store for the newer devices. also due to the great amount of security they place it this Vista system, Most drivers wont work. Here is why
Most drivers will try to write in the Kernel area are RAM directly, But Vista have no heart for that, that's why everything you do under Vista you get that popup that asked you if you want to continue.
Simple, If you can configure the device to work and run undeer Xp chances are it will work under Vista.
To test this out her is what you do.     Under XP remove the drivers for your hardware devices except for your video and Network adapter, make sure you have backup. Visit the manufacturers website download the drivers and setup each device, after yo have down so get a windows update and see if thsoe devices still work. then install SP2 and use the system fro a few days, then install all of windows updates. see if any device fails, or if you run into any aspplication poblems, if so run another windows update, sometime updates mess upi your system. take note of everything you do then upgrade to Vista. If all things work out well
for information visit Munsupport.com, and ask thsoe guys they know their stuff. Some things may take a while to solve, but it's free and they get back to you.
