Complex workbooks

Hello all,
I have a complex workbook which contains 5 sheets  (each represents one query)
When i refresh the query, the variable screen is appreaded to enter variables(which is asusual.)
After entering the variables and execute..it starts executing the first query. but the results are not directly placed in the respective excel sheet.
instead it is giving a pop up screen to select the cell location where the results are to be placed.
Please help to resolve this.
I want the query results should go its respective sheet.
regards
sunil.

Hi Chris
You can certainly merge two workbooks into one. But it will not be a straight forward approach. You will be recreating one workbook in the process.
What you need to do is choose one workbook which is more complex than the other. Connect to your server and Insert a new tab in that. One the second (blank) tab keep your reference (mosue click) on some cell say B4 and insert a Analysis Grid (second icon in the Design tool box). This will take you to the design mode. Here right click on the Analysis Grid and choose properties. In the General tab, in the Dataprovider click on the create new icon give it a name and choose your deired query and click ok. Come out of the design mode by clicking on the "A" icon in your design menu and this will execute the query that you chose. GO ahead with formatting your worbook as required.
I hope this helps.
THanks.

    Try "Clear All" found in the Editing group on the Home tab of the Ribbon ... or ...
    the Edit menu in xl2003 and earlier versions.

  • Precalculation corrupt Excel workbook

    Dear All,
    I installed the precalculation service and untill I open the Excel workmap on my local PC, where I opend my email account and saved the workbook on my desktop, it works fine.
    When opening the workbook I get the error in excel that the workbook is corrupt.....
    Anyone had this problem earlier ?
    Best regards
    Marcel

    Hi Experts,
    I would like to share you little bit regarding Precal Server 7.0.
    1)Whenever you install precalserver, please take care of installation path as mentioned in SAP note..  1039616
    The path of the precalculation service is the same as the path of the BI front
    end installation.
    (Mostly this would be C:\Program files\SAP\BW\Frontend).
    After installation checkout following files are installed in the location C:\Program files\SAP\BW\Frontend.
    BExPreCalcServerProgram.exe
    BExPreCalcServiceRestarter.exe
    BExPreCalcWindowsService.exe
    BExPrecServiceInstaller.exe
    BExPreCalcRfcServer.dll
    BExPreCalcInstance.dll
    sapbexp.xla
    Issue: Sometimes it will throw error like.
    Precalculation failed: E value cannot be null
    Parameter name:buffer
    cannot precalculate workbook wb_70_test2
    Error occured during processing of framework
    class CL_RSRD_PRODUCER_EXCEL, type PROD
    Solution: This issue is mostly related to not proper installation of precal server. To solve this issue, you have to
    uninstall the precal server and restart the machine, and again install the precalserver as specfied in note
    1039616
    2)Certain time in Windows service the SAP BW Precalculation service dispay start mode but eventhough it is not started
    to solve this issue , again you have to restart your SAP BW Precalculation service.
    3)Don't Create too many instance(Register) in RSPRECADMIN for your precal server.
    4)Check your MIcrosoft Excel version and its support of precal server.(it is better to know the prerequisite of precalserver)
    5)Sometimes if you precalculate older workbooks it will throw error. To avoid this upgrade your workbook by opening itin New version
    of Excel analyzer and save it again. This will upgrade your workbook.
    6)If you not properly saved your workbook, it will through error or you will receive corrupted workbook.
    7)After installing your precalserver, check your precalserver staus(green), if it is not show in green, again goto
    window serverices and start your precal server windows services.
    8)Test your precalserver in RSPRECADMIN. Goto your precalserver(registered/instance that you created in RSPRECADMIN). Dobule click it
    give a sample workbook and email-id.
    9)As fas as i know precalserver is not working properly for workbook with variables and complex workbooks.Correct me if am wrong.
    Check your precalserver in these scenarios.
    if it is useful assign points.
    hope it helps

  • Shared Excel sheet maximum users

    I am trying to share a fairly complex workbook. I have the formulas protected and all of the subsequent tables flow into a summary table on the very first tab. For this reason, I do not want/can not use the Excel Web App. I have sharing turned on and am
    successfully getting the [Shared] logo when the page is opened.
    There is just one small problem. Sharing is limited to two users. I need the workbook to be accessible for up to 10 people at a time. Is that not possible by simply sharing the workbook on a local drive?
    Please help me with how to solve this problem!

    Hi,
    As far as I know, there is no such limit for shared workbook. How did you shared the workbook to the users? Please try to disable the sharing and then share it again using the steps below:
    1. Open the workbook that you want to make available to share.
    2. On the Review tab, in the Changes group, click
    Share Workbook.
    3. In the Share Workbook dialog box, on the
    Editing tab, select the “Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging” check box.
    4. On the Advanced tab, select the options that you want to use for tracking and updating changes, and then click
    OK.
    5. In the Save As dialog box, enter a shared location in the
    Address bar.
    6. Click Save.

  • "Open method of Workbooks class failed" when opening Excel file via Internet Explorer

    (apologies, I posted this first to the general Office 2010 forum, but then realized this was probably a better spot to post)
    We have an Excel COM add-in installed on users' PCs.  This add-in responds to workbook open events by opening a particular XLA file (also deployed to the PC) to make certain features available.  This process works flawlessly when Excel files are
    opened locally - but when a user attempts to open an Excel file from an IE link, we get the following error: "Open method of Workbooks class failed".  This is happening on the line that is trying to open the XLA file.  This only happens
    when launching an Excel link from IE - works fine in Chrome or Firefox.
    I have found several posts on this topic, but no solutions:
    1. This post (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/office/en-US/73c96005-84af-4648-b103-32b677205be3/open-method-of-workbooks-class-failed)
    is the closest to our problem.  In this case, the "answer" was that the user may not have access to the 2nd workbook being opened.  But in our case, we're opening an XLA that is on the local machine, and I've confirmed that it is not
    corrupt and accessible (read & write, just in case!) to Everyone.
    2. This (very old) post (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/open-method-workbooks-fails-excel-hosted-ie-t965608.html)
    seems similar, but is talking about opening Excel inside of IE.  This is not what we're doing - the link is supposed to (and does) open Excel outside of IE.  Interestingly, Excel.exe is being launched with the "-embedded" flag, even
    though it isn't running in the IE window.  When launching Excel by opening the file locally, Excel.exe is run with the "/dde" flag instead.  Clearly the "-embedded" mode is what is causing the problem.  I could change the
    links on the web page to use some JavaScript to open Excel differently... unfortunately, the links are actually generated by SharePoint (the Excel files are in a SP repository), so this is not really an option.
    3. This Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268016) talks about problems opening an XLA directly from IE... but this is the case of a link pointing
    directly to an XLA file, not opening a regular workbook that in turn opens an XLA, as is my case.  In fact, this article specifically points out in the "More Information" section that "End users do not normally open XLAs; instead they open
    an XLS that (if needed) loads one or more XLAs during startup." ==> precisely what I'm trying to do that is giving me the error!
    I've replicated the situation with a very simple COM add-in (created in VS2010 using VB.Net) and a very simple XLA file (does nothing, just pops up a message in auto_open).  For anyone wanting to try it out, here is the exact test case:
    1. In Excel, create a simple XLA file containing only the following code, and save it in C:\TEMP\dummy.xla:
    Sub Auto_Open()
    MsgBox "Auto Open fired"
    End Sub
    2. In Visual Studio, create a new Excel 2010 Add-In.  I created mine via Visual Basic, but I doubt the choice of language matters.  Place the following code in ThisAddin.vb:
    Public Class ThisAddIn
    Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Startup
    AddHandler Me.Application.WorkbookOpen, AddressOf Application_WorkbookOpen
    End Sub
    Private Sub ThisAddIn_Shutdown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Shutdown
    End Sub
    Sub Application_WorkbookOpen(ByVal workbook As Excel.Workbook)
    On Error GoTo ErrHandler
    If (Not workbook.Name.Contains("dummy.xla")) Then
    MsgBox("Workbook open")
    Application.Workbooks.Open("C:\temp\dummy.xla")
    Application.Workbooks("dummy.xla").RunAutoMacros(Excel.XlRunAutoMacro.xlAutoOpen)
    End If
    Exit Sub
    ErrHandler:
    MsgBox(Err.Description)
    End Sub
    End Class
    3. Build & publish this add-in and install it on the same machine as the XLA created in step 1.
    4. Create and save an empty Excel workbook (I called mine WayneTest1.xlsx) - save it locally (on your desktop), and put a copy somewhere on your web server (I put mine directly in c:\inetpub).
    5. Create an HTML file with a link to that workbook, saving it to the same web server location - here is mine:
    <html>
    <body>
    <a href="WayneTest1.xlsx">Link to Excel file</a>
    </body>
    </html>
    6. Double click the workbook on your desktop (from step 4) - opens fine, I get the "workbook open" message, following by the "Auto Open fired" message.
    7. In Internet Explorer, navigate to the HTML file specified in step 5 and click on the link - when prompted, select "Open" - I get the "workbook open" message, following by the error message "Open method of Workbooks class failed".
    Here are a few things I've ruled out / tried so far:
    - Unchecked all the "Protected View" settings in Excel, made no difference
    - Unchecked all the "File block settings" in Excel, made no difference
    - Made sure dummy.xla was open for read & write to Everyone
    - Made sure the web page was in Trusted sites and set the security level to Low for those sites in IE
    - Tried making the local desktop file (step 6) readonly, made no difference (i.e. launching it locally still worked fine)
    - Tried using Excel 2013 - made no difference
    Any ideas / suggestions?

  • Problem with exit Variable in may BEx Analyzer Workbook

    Hello,
    I have created a workbook. In this workbook I use the 0CMONTH variable. I always want to get the previous month. For that I have the variable 0CMONTH-1 inserted in the query at default values in the query designer by 0calmonth.
    It will automatically deliver the previous month.
    When I put this query in the Bex Excel Anayzer Workbook, then comes the following message:
    Diagnosis
    In the query definition, the default values of characteristic
    [0CALMONTH]Calendar Year/Month are stored as variables. The system tires to fill

  • Problem with complex folder

    Hi,
    We have our EUL set up and working fine until last week. Today I received a call from the user saying that they are unable to open any workbooks, complaining that it has lost the joins.
    Upon investigation found that, these workbooks are built upon a couple of complex folders and when looked into the EUL found that these Complex Folders are DISAPPEARED.
    I know my database is in Archive Log mode and the EUL owner is in USERS tablespace. I do not know at what point these folders disappeared. And we do not have a back-up of the EUL.
    Can somebody plz suggest how to restore the EUL schema from the tablespace.
    Many Thanks
    MK

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes, I did check the EUL as EUL Owner and I do not see those folders.
    Can you please explain me bit more how I can restore the EUL tables from back up. We have the database in Archive Log mode and I am not sure how often the database is backed up. Can we restore the tables from Archive Log files.
    Awaiting your response.
    Thanks Again.

  • Opening Excel Workbooks from a WAD

    Hello Experts,
    My company is using a mixture of 3.5 and 7 Queries and Web Templates.
    I use the 3.5 WAD Role Menu item to give direct access to 3.5 Queries (via the Adhoc Query Browser) and 7.0 Web Templates.
    However to solve a complex problem I have had to use some 7.0 Excel Workbooks.
    The workbooks appear and can be executed from PFCG, however they do not appear on my web Role Menu item!
    Has anyone over come this problem?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    In my application , we have Excel files on the server i.e we are not creating excel sheets.
    I just want to display these static excel files through a jsp.
    I am able to display the excel files by reading them into ByteArrayOutputStream
    <%
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=B.xls");
    ServletOutputStream so = response.getOutputStream();
    String filename = "D:\\Test.xls";
    String mimetype = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
    ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    InputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(filename));
    byte bytebuff[] = new byte[500];
    for(int lengthread = 0; (lengthread = in.read(bytebuff)) != -1;){
    output.write(bytebuff, 0, lengthread);
    byte data[] = output.toByteArray();
    response.setContentType(mimetype);
    so.write(data);
    in.close();
    so.close();
    %>But my question is that , do i really need to do all this for rendering excel through a jsp.
    Can't i do it by just setting the content type ?

    Hi,
    These kind of problems occur due to the size of the repository sheets. If the queries are having complex definitions, the filling of the repository sheets takes a lot of time. So the formatting time will increase, this is expected in Excel Workbook. However this is not the same with web reporting as concept of repository sheet and cell definitions are very different in WEB. So you can use web reporting is you are comfortable with it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using VBA for loading Query data into Excel workbook

    Hi all.
    I want simply load data from BEx query into Excel Wortksheet using VBA because of report formats and footer section at the end of the results.
    Any code examples, tutorials, comments, suggestions will be regarded.
    thanx in advance,
    Gediminas

    The difficalty is that I don't know the number of rows report will return. And I need my footer only on LAST page of workbook.
    Another thing I can't imagine how to do by using standart BEx functionality is to design complex column header set (merged columns, sub-columns and etc.).

  • How to make Custom Discoverer workbook use Custom Security profile of Apps

    We use Discoverer in Oracle Apps setup. We have added Custom security in our HR People Form of Apps.
    This Custom Security restricts one HR Emplpoyee not view other HR employee record except for himself/herself. Also maintining that they should be able to view all other employee's records.
    The following code was put under the Security Profile Form -- > Custom Security Tab
    exists (select 1
    from per_jobs b
    where ASSIGNMENT.job_id = b.job_id
    and (b.name not like '%HR%')
    and (b.name not like '%Human%')
    and ASSIGNMENT.assignment_number is not null
    union
    select 1
    from fnd_user fu
    where fu.user_name = fnd_global.user_name
    and fu.employee_id = PERSON.person_id
    and ASSIGNMENT.assignment_number is not null)
    Above security profile works fine for HR People Form.
    However, It does not work for our Discoverer Workbooks. I found a note on Metalink 422841.1 which talks about leveraging the Custom Security of Apps in Discoverer Report. I read it, but did not get much clue.
    Can Anyone help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you want to use custom HR security with Discoverer you have to ensure that the correct security filters are applied when the Discoverer reports are run. These filters can use the supplied HR_SECURITY package or you can develop your own conditions using table lookups or functions. To get the filters applied to your reports you have a number of options:
    1. Build the security into custom folders using additional conditions
    2. Use custom database views in Discoverer and build the security into the views
    3. Use mandatory conditions in you Discoverer folders using either a function call or database contexts set at login time
    4. Use VPD (Virtual Private Database)
    I am not sure which of these options you are using to implement your HR security in Discoverer. The last option, VPD, is the most flexible and can give the best performance but maybe it is more complex to set up.

    The slowness you are experiencing is largely owing to the fact that the WebUtil package is running on the middle tier -- but the Jacob bean is running on the client. Loading a spreadsheet requires a lot of network I/O. To speed things up, implement your operation within a custom Java bean, in such a way that communication between the tiers is minimized. For example, write a Java class that receives all the data in one call, and understands how to write it to an Excel document. Deploy this class as a Java bean, and call it from your form as needed using FBEAN.INVOKE( ).
    The catch: passing data through PL/SQL imposes the 32K-character limit for VARCHAR2. If you cannot be certain that the data to be written can be expressed as a string of this size, you must consider introducing compression, passing the data over multiple calls, or possibly both.
    I've been working with this, using Java's GZIP libraries for compression, and Apache Axis' BASE64 function for binary-to-String conversion. Since I'm passing a complex data structure, I use open-source XStream to serialize this structure to XML, GZIP the XML string, Base64-encode and pass it along. Sounds awkward and cumbersome, but has worked fairly well so far.
    The XML step may not be needed for simple tabular data, but because GZIP minimizes the cost of wrapping every value in tags, the incredible convenience offered by XStream makes it worth at least trying. (One call to marshall, one call to unmarshall.)
    Sorry, but this is all I have time to write, at the moment -- hopefully it at least gives you an idea regarding the problem and possible solutions.

  • Steps to Format a Workbook ?

    Hi Experts,
    I am looking to create a template for Workbook with some formatting in it (fonts, header, hier, color, etc)  I was wondering if there were some specific steps that you go by ?  Also, while formatting, do I use Excel tools or BEx for formatting ?  Please send me a doc or link that would show me how to get that.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    There are a couple of options.
    The first option is to write complex vb coding which would pass the parameters from the main sheet to the sheet where the result area is displayed.
    The sheet where the result area is displayed, would still have the navigational area, but will be hidden from the user. The vb code would pass the parameters to the referenced cells in the result area sheet.
    One other option is to have a sheet called "DISPLAY" where in you would, using excel functionality, map the cells from various result area sheets. The users would then have a well formatted display to look at.
    However, you should be aware that the second option too has certain limitations. It is preferable to use structures for the rows, since you want to have a fixed reference. In cases where you cant use structures, you should create a vb script to create the "Display" sheet.
    Hope this helps.

  • E-mail resuls of Scheduled Workbooks

    Hi,
    Can somebody tell me if it is possible to automatically e-mail the results of a scheduled report in discoverer as soon as the report is run. If possible please explain how can it be done.
    Thank You,
    RM

    RM.
    Discoverer may support emailing reports, but as you probably know, to automatically do it is another thing altogether.
    Right now you need something to perform automation, and as Michael points out there are various 3rd party scheduling tools (including Febooti which I've used in the past and works well with this) which will run your Discoverer workbook / worksheet automatically, and export (or email in this case) automatically from the command line.
    Which tool or method you choose is a popular - and sometimes contentious - issue on this forum as we all have our biases. However, you could probably boil it down to running a scheduler to invoke Disco Desktop from the command line (ie: DOS), or running a scheduler to invoke Disco Desktop from VBasic, or my favourite but never heard of anyone doing it (and therefore is it even possible), running a Java program which issues the same command line commands.
    All methods are possible, all rely on the command line interface (whether DOS or Java) and all can be simple in just having one command line run 1 workbook / worksheet, or incredibly fancy (I'm guilty of this) in having an entire corporate reporting system using it but incredibly complex DOS bat files.

  • Components of Complex folder

    Hi
    Currently, the components of a complex folder is pointing to folders in a different business area. The business area that the complex folder is in also has those folders. I would like to know if it is possible to modify the folder properties for the complex folder so that the components point to the same business area. It is not possible to drop the folder and recreate it using the folders in the same area, because reports have already been developed

    Hi
    I am sorry to be the bringer of bad news but you cannot do what you ask. I have looked at the tables that comprise a complex folder. These are:
    EUL5_OBJS - Folder Table - this hold a single row defining the folder name
    EUL5_OBJ_DEPS - Folder dependencies - this holds one row for each sub-folder used in the complex folder
    EUL5_JOIN_USGS - Folder joins - this holds data about how the sub-folders are joined together
    If you look in the database and get the OBJ_ID for the complex folder you want to repoint you will see that this joins as follows:
    EUL5_OBJS.OBJ_ID joins to EUL5_OBJ_DEPS.OD_OBJ_ID_FROM and
    EUL5_OBJS.OBJ_ID joins to EUL5_OBJ_DEPS.OJU.OBJ_ID
    To make the switch you would have to be able to change both EUL5_OBJ_DEPS.OD_OBJ_ID_FROM and EUL5_OBJ_DEPS.OJU.OBJ_ID to be the OBJ_ID of the main folder. Unfortunately, these columns are part of a unique key and you cannot update them as it would clash with the definition of the original folder.
    The other thing that would stop this from working is that when Discoverer saves a worksheet it embeds the unique key for each join within the worksheet code. Even if you could switch all the pointers within the EUL the workbook would still not open. It would find the folders but then detect that the join ideintifier was not the same and you would get an error.
    I have tried for several hours manipulating a test EUL that I have to see if there was a way of doing this and I have not been successful.
    It looks as though you will have to edit each workbook, drop out the new folder and reattach the old folder.
    Sorry about this
    Michael
