Compressor 4 drops frames when converting 25fps image sequences

I am using Compressor 4 to batch convert 30fps and 25fps 1080 tiff image sequences to Uncompressed 10bit 422.
I have created custom presets for both 30fps and 25fps.
The 30fps conversions are fine.
But the 25fps conversions have missing or dropped frames and the resulting clip is too short. For example a 106 frame image sequence becomes 88 frames when converted to Uncompressed 10bit 422 QT. (which suspiciously similar to the 83.33% difference between 25 & 30 fps)
I have double checked my setting and can not find a problem (see grab)
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Update: I have found a work around for this problem, but it is not pretty!
By using the 30fps setting even for 25fps sequences, every frame gets included in the resulting QuickTime. But it plays at the wrong frame rate, so I then use Cinema Tools to change the frame rate to 25fps. Then everything is fine.
As Compressor 4 has been around for while, I can't believe this hasn't come up before!

  • Jagged Edges and Unstable Images when converting from Image Sequence to DV

    Hi,
I have an Image Sequence (very good quality) that I'm trying to convert using Graphic Converter into DV NTSC Video.
    I chose Progressive scan.
I find that the Images appear to have Jagged Edges especially when there is movement involved. Also, the entire image as a whole appears to be Unstable/ Vibrate Slightly.
Does anyone have Experience with this?
    Thanks,
    Rajnesh Domalpalli

Ntsc dv should be interlaced. also if you are viewing on a computer monitor the footage will appear nasty. It's best to view via an NTSC monitor.Do you have Final cut? if your images are correctly sized you should be able to drop the sequence into a final cut sequence set to DV NTSC and render out the resulting video. You will likely need a multiformat monitor as I believe the standard in India is a PAL variant PAL B not NTSC . in NTSC the screen is filled first by odd lines (Field1) then by even lines (Field2)thus a single pixel line will appear to turn off and on as the screen fills between odd and even lines. Straight lines and angled lines exhibit aliasing and flickering particularily when viewed on a computer monitor because computer screens fill the screen progressively from top to bottom and at a much higher refresh rate than NTSC. hope this helps

  • Converting bitmap image sequences to Flash

    Hello,
I use LightWave 3D to create a set of characters that are
simple talking heads. Composited in Mirage and edited in VT4, it's
all bitmap images. You can see a sample here:
    Subversive
    Entertainment
That version was intended for TV but isn't going to sell. I'd
like to try it as an animated editorial cartoon embedded in a Flash
player at online newspapers. But when I compress the video it
doesn't convert as cleanly as I know a direct Flash file would. I'd
like to import the image sequences into Flash and converting them
to symbols(?) or movie clips(?) or(?)...
What would be the best way to handle the image sequences in
Flash? They are currently 180 frames long for each character, but I
could reduce the image sequence to as little as 60 frames. Once the
image sequence is converted to a set of symbols(?) they would be
    re-used over and over.
I imported a 180 frame image sequence and it put one image on
each frame in the Flash timeline. How would I convert that entire
image seqence to a sequence of symbols(?) that I could re-use. When
I exported it as a movie it made a .swf file that looks great but I
don't think that's what I want to work with within Flash. (I'll
create a differnt background in FLash as well.)
    Whew,
    Hope this made sense.

after importing, select the entire range of keyframes
    containing your image sequence. Right-click
over them and select COPY FRAMES.
Open Library and create a new symbol.
PASTE FRAMES into frame 1 of this new symbol.
On main timeline create a new layer (delete original layer)
and drg instance of your new symbol to
it. Now you have a nested animation that can be reused.

New to FCP. Dropped frames when playing section in the timeline w/audio, Viewer plays fine tho. Plays for bout 1 sec with no sound, nothing showing coming through the audio meters. Problem came out the blue, made no conscious changes to settings. FCP 7.0.3. iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. OS10.8.4. If any other info needed please let me know, will be happy to provide it. Thanx.

Thank you for the help. Below is my Source footage and sequence settings.
The other footage I have on the timeline is an mp3 file made in Garage Band and some footage I sent to Motion to edit. I do have some offline media on there since I switched computers but FCP had been working fine for a few months with it on there. I have not tried trashing my FCP Preferences. If I did would I have to back up my project?

  • When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there anything I can do about this ?

When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there any way to prevent this ?

Hi Joe , Thank you for your quick response . I am viewing the jpeg in Microsoft Picture Manager and Flickr. It 's not always really noticeable , but for example if I shoot into the light with dew on the grass , the dew glistens in LRoom and I'm happy with the shot but when I convert it to jpeg ,it looks dull. I have changed the setting to sRGB - from Adobe 1998 ,but don't see much difference.  Kind regards   Alberto.

  • Dropped frames when importing from sony dcr-hc52

    hey all,
i'm getting a lot of dropped frames when importing from my sony cdr-hc52. anyone had this experience? is there a setting i'm missing that would correct this?
    thanks in advance,
    filmgrrrl

Hello kellyfromkenley, Depending on how you move the video or share the video from iMovie to iDVD it can make a big difference. One way is to go to the Share Menu > Share to iDVD. But the better is to Share to Media Browser instead. Try this:
Go back to iMovie and open your Project in Project Library.
Go to Share Menu > Share to Media Browser
Choose the Large size and let it run until it finishes
    Quit iMovie and open iDVD.
In iDVD click on the Media Button, then click on the Movies button and look for your project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser itself.
Drag that project icon into the iDVD project window and burn another disk
I think you'll see an increase in the visual quality using this method.
The reason this has an effect on the visual quality is there's a whole different set of operations performed on the video when you first Share to Media Browser. The side effect of those changes in steps is a much better looking DVD from your iMovie project.

  • Compressor outputs stuttery QT's from image sequence

    Hey all,
I'm having an issue when trying to batch image sequences from compressor. The resulting QT is 'stuttery' and 'jumpy'. The source image sequences are .tga's and the destination formats are ProRes 422 HQ @23.976/ 23.98
The attributes pane recognizes the seq as progressive and 23.98 before putting my settings on and I've not enabled frame controls.
I did have this working at one point during testing, and I remember having to do something mundane to each image sequence so that it came out alright - I thought it was choosing the 23.98 fps setting in the attributes inspector, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything.
This is on a mac pro1.1, quad 3ghz and 12 gb ram.
Any questions or help would be grteatly appreciated-
    Thanks all!

It's perfect when I put it through FCP: as was the previous workflow. It'd just be a heck of a lot easier to batch all the shots I deal with ^^
I think that re-selecting the 23.98 in the atributes window for each image sequence seems to get it. Any other ideas?- it'd be great if I didn't have to. boy- I sound lazy
    Thanks a bunch!

  • CS4; detecting correct FPS when importing an image sequence

Here's the problem: I'm rendering a sequence in a serie of targa images at 24 fps in 3dsmax. When importing into premiere pro it always sets it to 29.97 fps. I can use the interpret footage to change it back to 24 fps, but when you have multiple videos everyday it quickly becomes a time waster.
Is there a way to do it automatically?
    Thanks,

Because Premiere changed from having Project Settings in CS3 to Sequence Settings in CS4 and because there is no setting to set the default frame rate for image sequences, there is simply no way to do what you want.
Project Settings used to govern the default frame rate for Sequences and for image sequences.   In CS4, that's not the case.
It seems Adobe forgot about users who use image sequences on a regular basis.

  • Flash CS5 crashes when importing an image sequence

I am trying to compile an image sequence rendered from modeling software (550 frames). The images are approx. 120kb in size. So far I have only been able to import about 100 images at a time, but when I get to the third import flash crashes. I have adjusted clipboard size to 5000kb max and reduced undo's to 2.
This can't be a hardware problem because I'm running win 7 on a i7 machine with 6gb of ram. Any ideas?

This has always been an issue in Flash for a long time. Search the forum and you'll see. The best you can do is import in smaller batches (I'd recommend no more than 50 at a time).
Do you actually NEED to import a sequence of images? Any reason you're not using video?
FYI on a rig with 32GB RAM I can barely import 50 without needing to save to a new file, then import another 50. Also realize compressed size and actual size are different. If you want to see the actual memory footprint, open Photoshop, open an image and look at the bottom left where it tells you the actual memory required to display that image. For example a 39K JPG takes 225.0KB memory. A 360KB image takes 3.71MB RAM.

  • Drop frames when printing to tape !

    HI
I would like some help please !!!
The problem is when I print to tape I keep on getting drop frames
    Here is the run down
The video is normal some where around 1hr 30 min 2hrs long
    3 layers maximum
    The audio is four layers
I have tried “Nesting all items” and then printing to video (it last a little longer but I still get the same problem)
My system stats are as follows
    G5 Dual 2.7 with 3.5GB Ram, 10.4.8, FCP 5.04 650GB Internal HD and 900GB Sata HD
    Thanks

    Maurice,
make sure all your audio is 48K
close all sequences other than the one you are using to print to tape
Try exporting your project as a QT movie then place it back on a new timeline and print to tape that way
make sure your hard drives are not going to sleep
try recording from the timeline rather than using the print to tape function

  • Not rendering - Getting dropped frames when exporting to tape

I am trying to export my project to Mini DV tape. I have been successful before, but am continually getting dropped frames. I noticed that the sections that are getting dropped frames are showing that it is not rendered (red bar). I have tried rendering them several times, but still show the red bar. I am using a PowerMac G5, Dual 2 GHZ processor with 3GB RAM. The footage is on a Lacie Firewire 800 external hardrive and there is almost 200 GB of free space. I do get occasional dropped frames, but not as often as I am now.

Is there anything else I can do? When I get the Warning - Dropped frames, it suggests turning off "Unlimited RT", which I have and set to "Safe" because I was getting dropped frames. Will this affect the quality when exporting? I have set the Video Quality to "Dynamic" and Frame Rate "Full" and Record "Full Quality". Do any of these settings need to be changed? Lowering your compression data rate (I'm not sure what that is), Closing open sequences (which I've done), Lowering the preference for real-time audio tracks (how do I do that and again will it affect the quality?), Increasing the speed of your system and/or disk drives and/or network connection (Is there a way for me to do that?)

  • How do I set the Alpha when opening an Image Sequence?

I'm trying to imported a tiff image sequence w/embeded alpha into Final Cut Pro. Since Final Cut Pro has no feature for importing image sequences, I assume that Quicktime Pro is my only choice.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Opened Image sequence in Quicktime Pro
    2. Went to "show movie properties"
    3. Selected "Video "Track" which is only track to select
    4. Went to "Visual Settings" tab, "transparency"
    5. Selected "straight alpha"
It turns the alpha or matte area into a solid white. I've tried the other transparency options but they always give me the white.
    6. Import saved quicktime into FCP, edit into timeline, select different alpha settings, always white background.
Am I doing something wrong, or is my graphics guy giving me image sequences with improperly embeded alphas?
Avid will import the image sequence and read the alpha with no problem.

In Final Cut (prefs) set the duration for still's
Import the still folder. Or make a bin folder in the bowser window...
Drop the still folder on the time line ....done
I just did a test and it works.........

  • Drop Frames when Printing to Video

I know there are a lot of topics on drop frames, but I couldn't find any that met my specific set of circumstances.
My video plays fine and there is no red bar indicating that something has to be rendered. However, when I try to print to video, ten seconds in, the project is aborted and a drop frame error is given.
Is there anything I can do to get around this?
    Thanks.

I don't know the specs of your machine however...
Alternatevely you could open the RT dropdown menu
and turn playback video quality and playback frame rate to the minimum and close
    other projects.

  • Why does Premiere Pro stop, or drop frames when using the Timecode Effect.

The Timecode Effect is gpu accelerated, the render bar is yellow and it still drops frames.
If it drops frames on a yellow bar, how can I ever trust it to print to tape? It wouldn't be a problem if I could say render the yellow sections of my edit, but it won't because the bar is not red. Very frustrating!
    Running 64bit windows 7;
    gtx470 graphics card;
12GB of memory (9 reserved for Premiere)
Raid 0 _ Speed Tested Excellent
working with uncompressed black magic 1080i AVI's
It seems to happen when I have overlapping clips with the Timecode Effect on one or both. Plays fine if just a single clip with the effect.
Any help would be great, hopefully I'm just missing something simple..

    Harm,
Here is a capture of my speed test. I do have 4 disks on a raid 0, very little data on the drives. I have run 3 tracks of HD with different levels of opacity with no problem. I do crash the drives when I add the forth. So I would like to think that two tracks with accelerated effect should be fairly simple to playback. Am I wrong to be thinking that way? Also only working with 8 bit, This test is for 10 and up.
The read comes in above 500 mb/s. It was on the way up when I captured it.

  • Repositioning photo in frame when printing small image to A4 paper

I'm trying to print a passport sized photograph onto a sheet of A4 photo paper, but when I resize the image, the program places it in the centre of the frame when I view it in print preview.
I would like to reposition the image, to the top left corner of the page for example, in order to save photo paper.  I can't find a way to do this in iPhoto 9.5.1 or in any of the other photo apps I've downloaded form the App Store, and don't really want to shell out on Adobe Photoshop.  I'm using Mavericks if that makes any difference.
Any ideas or advice would be gratefully received.  Thak you in advance.

You'll need a 3rd party image editor  that supports layers or you can use Pages.  Open pages to a blank, letter sized page.
Drag the photo from the iPhoto window to the Pages window, resize as necessary and drag to the upper left hand corner of the page.  then Print.  If you have Word you can do essentially the same thing.
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $40
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
    Xee 2.1 - free
