OK so my computer crashed. I know I have all the music files so no biggie on that end of things. However, how am I supposed to get my apps back??? I've got the ones on the phone but if I sync it to the new computer it will sync whats on the computer on to the phone right? Thus leaving me with none... SOMEONE slap me in the face and tell me there is a way.... :-/ Thank you in advance!

When you get you computer running again, log onto the same account you had and you can download previous apps.
If not sure look at your history and it should show them all

    These links will give you

methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search if the links below leave you wanting…

After recovering your song files, consider developing a backup strategy for just this type of situation. Music files on just the iPod and the computer is

considered having any backup. Backup both the music files

the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). Below are some very good threads to read on the subject:

I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

This last update forced my 83 year old mother to enter a passcode. She doesnt have one. This is her only computer. Now what Apple? The

I'm still not fully convinced that the system is asking for a previously entered passcode, rather than to set it up. If the passcode was set up before, your mother might not remember what the passcode was, but wouldn't she remember that she did set up something? What happens if she clicks on the Cancel button/word?
After each iOS upgrade you do have to re-enter the passcode. That's why you had to enter it.
My sympathies are with you. I know from personal experience how difficult it is to troubleshoot problems remotely, especially with someone who's not familiar with the proper terminology. Is it possible and reasonable for your mother to go to the Apple Genius alone?
IF she did indeed set up a password and can't remember it, there's a procedure that will reset the iPhone, but it's not pretty in terms of preserving data on the iPhone if it hadn't been backed up to iTunes or iCloud. These links might be of assistance:

    bee,
Your response was somewhat helpful thankyou. This is my 15yr sons Nano. We understand that his music is gone now right? He only had about 40 songs on there. We DO understand now the importance of backing up his songs on to a disc after purchasing. So, my question now is....when he goes to download more songs, will he lose those songs already on his Nano? Thanks

  • Computer crashed, now I want to move my files

My computer crashed a few weeks ago and before re-install Leopard I want to move some of my files onto an external harddrive. WHAT KEYS should I press while I start up my computer to get to the right screen? As in, when I start up my computer I want to see a screen that lists all my files so I can copy some onto an external harddrive. I have already tried copying my entire harddrive and that did not work.
I really need to know how to copy these files onto an external harddrive, so please don't just tell me to do archive and install!

If you have access to another Mac, connect the two together with a firewire cable (hopefully you have a FW port). And plug your external drive into the other Mac as well (not sure if you could just leave it plugged into the Macbook).
Now power up your macbook (the other computer should already be running) and hold down the "T" until you see a floating FW symbol. Your Macbook should show up on the desktop of the other Mac. You should be able to drag your Home folder or whatever files you need to the external drive.

  • Im so confused! i need help! my computer crashed, now my cards arent good...:(

ok so heres the problem... i was downloading itunes latest version, and i was also on the itunes store. i redeemed a $15 dollar card and a $25 dollar card, then my computer crashed and my account ran dry to the amount beofre at .92 cents. now when i go to re-enter the code it says the cards already been used when i only bought one song.

try signing out of iTunes and sign back in
    you can do this by:
-going to store menu at the very top of your page (usually located up there with file, edit, view, and controls)
-from the store menu, choose the "sign out" option
-sign back in using the same move
-credit balance should update to the correct balance
    hope this helps:)

  • Computer to computer network: now what?

I have just upgraded from a G5 iMac to an intel iMac, and i am still trying to migrate some files over. Rather than reboot into target disk mode every time, I figured I might as well try this computer-to-computer network thing via airport express. So I created a network on the old computer, and joined it from the new computer. Didn't get any error messages, and both computers show that I'm connected.
But now what? How do I "find" one computer from the other? It's not in the sidebar in finder windows. It's not on the desktop. In the finder if I click the imac icon, inside there is my HD, my idisk, and a folder called network- but that folder is empty.
I'm guessing this is something simple and I'm being dumb, but i'm not sure what to do next. I guess I could just transfer it on a jump drive, but now I want to know how this works...

ok thanks, I'll try that. I guess I should have thought of that.
I turned on sharing on the old computer, and it said "other macs can access your computer by afp:xx or browse for "my computer" by choosing Network from the Go menu in the finder."
I tried the network: browse options first since it's easier than typing a bunch of numbers. I choose Network from the Go menu, and there is nothing there. Doesn't matter if I'm on my regular airport network, or this computer-to-computer one- nothing comes up either way.
But, if I do 'connect to server' instead and type in the afp:etcetc stuff it works.
I guess I just don't understand the point of this computer to computer network. I thought i was connecting the two computers directly- so why do I need to go through enabling sharing, connecting to servers, etc. In target disk mode, the old computer's HD just shows up in the finder- I was hoping for something simple like that. Right now, I have both computer on my airport network. How is that different?

  • HELP! MY COMPUTER CRASHED! WHAT DO I DO?

what can i do to keep my data, and is there a way to continue to add files to my ipod without loosing al that stuff?!?!

You can move the music from iPod to computer and then all your music will be on your computer. You can then continue updating normally.
    Here are a few ways...
    YamiPod
    MacMuse: Computer Crashed
You can search the discussions or the Internet via Google for more options.
You can also set your iPod to manually update and just add new songs...

However, if you do that, make sure your music is backed up...

  • Computer Crashed, Now cracked Screen on Phone, How do I get my songs? Gurus

Ok, heres the deal, have a computer that Windows based I downloaded all my songs over 2000 dollars worth, well that crashed and wouldnt load 3 months ago. In the mean time, I was downloading directly off my 2G Iphone. Well my bro put another harddrive and operating system in. So on my computer I was still able to download Itunes and then Grab that folders from my old hard drive and authorize my new computer. Now I cracked my phone and Im getting a new one. How do I get the songs and apps I bought off my Iphone, so that I have them when I get my new Iphone?
Im going nuts here! THanks to anyone that can help!

With iphone attached, in itunes click File>Transfer Purchases.
This will get your itunes purchased music from iphone to your computer.
The apps should transfer automatically. If not, you should be able to download again for free. You will go through the buy screen, but there should be no charge. You can do a forum search for this as it has been asked and answered before.

  • Computer crashed, now having issues with syncing

Well our computer crashed. We had it fixed and I had to reinstall Itunes. I bought an app on Itunes through the computer and tried to sync it to my iPod. It told me that I have to erase everything on my iPod because you can only sync to one computer. Well I have a bunch of songs and other apps that I do not want to have to re-buy. How do I sync everything and get it all together? I am not trying to use more than one computer, my hard drive had to be completely replaced.

    Welcome to the discussions,
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Music and other media you did not buy in iTunes and pictures are not part of the backup. But there are other ways to copy such content, although not supported by Apple. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Computer Stolen - Now what?

My iMac was stolen only a couple of months after I bought it. I had created my website though iWeb and hosted it with GoDaddy. Now I have replaced my iMac, but I don't know how to import (?) my existing website into iWeb so that I can continue updating it.
Does anyone have the answer? I have already downloaded all the web files from GoDaddy's Remote System, so I do have them locally. Now what?
    Thanks!

Your Mac stores most things that would be important to you in a personal way, in your Home Folder. Things like your iPhoto Library, your iTunes Library, Downloads, and last but certainly not least, your iWeb Domain.sites file (which contains everything you create in the iWeb application--including multiple sites). All of your iLife apps will, by default, store their files and everything you create in these programs in your Home folder.
Make it a habit to back up this Home folder on a regular basis to an external drive. If you can, invest in an external drive and then make use of Leopard's new Time Machine application.
Your Home Folder will also become bloated over time. Having clones of it on an external drive will enable you to trim some fat and create more space on your hard disk when you need it.
The good part is you only have to learn this lesson once, usually.

  • Computer crash- now has export problems

I have premiere pro cs3. My computer crashed, so I did Format c: and rebuild.  Most things worked, first time, without fail...some did not.  I can no longer export to adobe encore,  It says "failed during loading default preset"  I can export the movie as .avi and import.. but...I want things back to the right way, the proper integrated setup needs to be back in place.. HELP please..... and thank you...

This is a known bug by Telestream the makers of Flip4Mac in Quicktime 7.2 and they are currently working on a fix for it. However, you have already stumbled on their workaround: change the audio to 44.1 then export. The only other thing you can do is revert to a lower version of Quicktime.

  • Computer crashed. Saved songs on D drive and put in new computer. Now what?

My computer went down for the count. C drive went bad. I was lucky in that my iTunes music folder was on my second internal hard drive, the D drive. Got a new computer, installed the D drive into the new machine, and the folder is still there. When I open up the files, most of the songs are now M4A files which I never heard of and the computer doesn't know what to do with them either. I haven't downloaded and installed iTunes yet. I am nervous. All I read about is people plugging their iPod into a new computer and all of the music on the iPod is gone. What is the proper sequence for me to download iTunes, tell it where the music files are and then show iPod that all is well and it doesn't have to have a lobotomy? Also, will I be able to retain the information, such as album covers, equilizer settings, genres, etc? Where is this info kept? And what are M4A files? Shouldn't they be MPEG files? I think that is what they used to be. Enough questions? As you can see I am still recovering from computer ****. Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Dave Schwartz

M4A files are aac music files, either those you bought from apple or those you ripped with itunes if you had aac selected as the format to use.
To restore your library, install itunes 7, then hold down the shift key when starting it up. When it asks you to create a new library or select an existing library, click on "Choose Library" and navigate to the library file on your D drive, it should be called "iTunes Library.itl".
If you can't find a library there, return to your My music folder and create it there. Once itunes starts with an empty library, select "add folder to library" on the file menu and then select the folder containing all your music. Itunes will add it all to the new library.
Once you get the library up in itunes, attempt to play one of your purchased songs and log in when itunes asks you to. This will authorize your new computer to play your purchased tunes.
Once you have your full library back in itunes you can safely plug in your ipod. itunes will probably reload it completely, but all should be well once it's done.

  • Computer Crashed. What Now?

My computer crased and I just got it back.
So im wondering is there any way to get the songs from my ipod onto my computer?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • For example, when I click on the craig's list book mark, I get a pop that says to up date Firefox. I don't have Firefos on this computer. Now what is going on here, anybody?

I am getting unwanted popup ads about software update for software that I don't have installed. I have an iMac 20", 2009, running 10.10.2 Yosemite. This just started this week. I read that Adobe Flash Player was causing problems with mac's and Windows pc's. I did the Adobe Flash Player update for windows 7, on my pc's. Is this my problem here on the iMac? I also get popup ads when viewing and crags list ads. they appear in the midle of the screen, and in the lower right hand corner.  Any advice, suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
