Computer no longer recognizes SuperDrive

My early model iMac G5 (pre-iSight) has recently stopped recognizing the SuperDrive. There is currently a DVD in there, but the computer won't acknowledge it in any application or on the desktop. Looking at the system profiler, I get the message:
No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly.
Any explanation and possible solution would be greatly appreciated.

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community,  I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? (I'm not enough of a techie to know what I'm doing or how to locate /reinstall CD drivers. I am searching for driver disc but cannot locate.)

  • My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.
    Mac mini
    1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
    OS 10.4.11
    iTunes 9.2.1
    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

  • After upgrading to Mavericks, my computer no longer recognizes my ipod.

After upgrading to Mavericks, my computer no longer recognizes my ipod. Screen lights up when it's plugged in, but it doesn't get to the "connected" state and it doesn't show up on my computer, in the /Volumes folder or in iTunes. This has only started happening after I upgraded to Mavericks.

I should also note, that I have restarted my computer and ipod multiple times and have attempted restarting the SMC on my mac, as per
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    all with no luck.
Also, I have updated to the most recent version of iTunes and have checked that the USB ports are being read correctly through the System Profiler. I have also plugged the ipod into the same ports that worked with my keyboard and mouse, with no different results.

  • When i update my ipod the computer no longer recognizes it

i have a 30 4 button click wheel and i have tried to update it and the computer no longer recognizes it. i then have to restore the ipod and software and everything works fine, but i would like to find the way to have it updated.

i am trying to update the ipod software with the ipod updater, and to fix this i have to restore the ipod to the factory settings. There is not so much a problem running the older version, but i liked the updates on the ipod very much until i tried to plug it back into my computer.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my phone.  how do I get phone to show up on computer when I plug it in via usb?

my computer does not recognize my phone when I plug it in via USB.  how do I get it to recognize my phone?  I need to backup and download updates.

    Hello Raytw8425,
It sounds like your phone is not recognzied in iTunes anymore. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
Here is an overview of the troubleshooting to be done:
    1. Update iTunes
    2. Check the USB cable
    3. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    4. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
    5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
    6. Check for third-party software conflicts
If the issue persists, try uninstalling iTunes and its associated apps with either of these two articles depending on your operating system version:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
    Or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

I've got 2 15 gig ipods, one has becomes increasingly hard to to transfer new tunes from itunes. At first the problem was sporadic, so I got a new USB cable, but now my computer does not recognize that I've hooked up anything when I plug it in, but if I switch to my other ipod, same cable, etc, it works like a charm. Any thoughts?

I have a Canon GL2 and a Sony GV-HD700 that plays mini SD tape. Suddenly the computer no longer sees the hardware and will not allow me to download video. Been on the phone to Apple Care and Genius Bar and they can't help me. I am getting worried. What happened?

    Hi
    May be help here ?
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Windows 7: computer no longer recognizes iPhone USB for Hotspot

Yesterday (and every day before) I plugged in my iPhone 5 (latest updates in terms of iOS) to my Windows 7 PC and used the USB hotspot capability. Today I plug it into my computer, turn on the hotspot, and my computer does not recognize the USB hotspot. No updates to iTunes, or Windows - yesterday it worked, this morning it does not.
Other data: the phone is charging via the USB connection. iTunes sees the phone via the USB connection. And I can connect to the computer via the wireless hotspot, so the hotspot itself is functional. I just can't get my computer to recognize the USB hotspot.
Tried repairing a file someone recommended in the Program Data/Apple folder (can't remember the name) and that didn't work. Obviously lots of reboots for both devices. Resest the network settings.
    Help!

  • Computer no longer recognizes mount point of hard drive

    Hello all,
I have a perplexing problem here. When I was running a Verify Disk in Disk Utilities I got a "Keys Out of Order" error, and I cannot repair with either Disk Utility or using fsck.
I ran a Hardware Test and nothing was wrong, so I decided to back everything up, wipe the drive, and re-install the OS. Problem is, DIsk Utility will not let me wipe my hard drive. The mount point shows up as just "/" instead of, for example, /Volumes/My Awesome Computer. I assume this is a symptom of my "Keys out of order" error, since I can see my boot camp partition just fine and can choose to erase it if I want to.
I guess my question is, how can I wipe my Apple partition if the option is not even available to me to begin with? I tried booting up from my installation disks and doing an Archive and Install from there already, but my disks don't even recognize my Apple partition, so I can't even begin to re-install the OS from them.
My only remaining idea is to re-partition my hard drive into another Apple partition, install there, and then unpartition, but I'm not sure if that'll work. Does anyone have any clues or advice?

Update: I tried re-partitioning my drive, but that failed to initiate. I got this error: filesystem verify or repair failed.
It's the same error that I get when I tried to repair my HD with Disk Utility. So, I cannot make new partitions, and my hard drive mount point remains unrecognized by my install CDs. Yet...I can log in and use it just fine. The only manifested problem I've had with this Keys Out of Order error is that I can no longer see my Apple partition from Boot Camp, but I'm worried this problem may get just worse and worse. Help would be greatly appreciated.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my ipod

I have an iPod classic 5th gen, and have been using it on the same computer for over a year just fine, but the last time I tried to plug it in, iTunes wouldn't recognize it. Itr shows up on the desktop, but not under the device tab in my itunes. Is there a major problem, or am I just making a stupid mistake?

Perhaps something in this article can help: iPod does not appear in iTunes or iPod updater in Mac OS X Products Affected
Have you tried a simple hard reset of the device with it still connected to your Mac? To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
