Computer not reading ipod at all

i bought my nano like a month ago... i connected my nano to the computer and all the songs went on it... a week later though i got a message saying i needed to upgrade so i did and in the middle of the upgrading process it froze and all my songs were deleted from the ipod now when i try to connect it itunes doesn't read it and when i try to open 'my computer' it freezes. i've tried resetting the nano and i even tried using another computer but the same thing happens can anybody help?

Disconnect the iPod and close the iPod updater and iTunes. then try again. If it doesn't work, then close both again, and push CtrlAltDel and end the iTunesHelper.exe and iPodservice.exe processes. I'm sure you did this first, but just doublecheck no file are running off the iPod.

  • Computer wont read iPod at all

I have a 1st generation 20gb iPod and I can't get any type of feedback. When I plug it in to my computer I get a battery with a yield sign. If i try to reset it by holding the menu and select button, the screen flickers for a second and goes back to the battery sign. I can't charge it either. I have tried my outlet charger, an iHome and my computer, the same battery sign shows up. I can't think of anything else to try and fix it. Is it completely worthless?

I had the same problem when I bought my Touch 2 months ago. Here is fix I used:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090209182107AAR4juY
First (MAKE SURE YOUR IPOD ISNT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER, AND ITUNES IS RUNNING!!) you have to reset it by holding your home and power button. Make sure you slide it to power off. Then as it powers on, hold the home button and connect your ipod to the computer at the same time. (DO NOT LET IT GO FOR ANY REASON) as iTunes loads it, it'll say that your iPod is going into recovery mode. Click ok, and restore it.
It worked for me. Hope it helps...

  • I bought a new MacBook Pro (Mac Os 10.8.4) when conecting my mobile broadband dongle (Huawei E122) the computer does not read it at all. I do not have problems when connecting it to my former computer (PC) and a Mac from last year. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

  • FOUND A FIX FOR COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING IPOD!!!

I have read several threads over the past week relating to the issue of iPods not connecting to the computer. The specifics were:
    1. iPod not appearing on desktop
    2. iTunes did not recognize iPod
    3. Disk Utility and iPod updater did not register that iPod was connected
    4. THE IPOD DID CONNECT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER!!!! (I would recommend trying this if you can, if it does connect to another computer you can isolate that it is the computer not the iPod causing the problem)
I really did not want to restore my iPod or reinstall system software, but after reading a suggestion about resetting PRAM, I thought I might as well give it a try, as nothing else was working. IT WORKED!!! And it was only at the cost of resetting my computer's clock, even better!!! If this solves your problem please post here to let me know.
If you dont know how to reset your PRAM check out this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

Good call, resetting the PRAM and NVRAM did the trick for me! I got some message about a new firmware that I should install on my iPod, and then after that I got messages saying that my computer couldn't recognize my iPod, and that I needed to initialize the disk.
    Your suggestions saved me!

  • ITunes on new computer not reading MP3 tags

I have transferred my library of MP3 that were ripped from CD from my old computer to my new computer, and many of the files do not show the album name or artwork, etc. in iTunes.  If I look at file properties in Windows, however, all the information is present for the MP3 - album, artist, etc.  I have found that there is a field called "Encoded by" and is says "iTunes 11.0.2.26", or some other is an older version of iTunes.  If this iTunes version is older than the latest version of iTunes on my new computer, then iTunes does not read the MP3 tags correctly.  If I manually change that iTunes version in Windows to the latest iTunes, then that file is fixed!!!
My question is, what is the fastest way to make this change for all the files that are showing old info in the "encoded by" field?  The files are all buried in various artis->album folders in the music folder, and I can't see any way to change this field from iTunes, I can only do it from windows explorer.  If I could do it in iTunes it would be fast because I could group all the bad files together, select them all, and change them in one step.
Please help!  I am close to fixing it!

Are you using the latest downloaded version of iTunes from Apple.com, instead of a version that came on disc with the iPod? According to this article, Windows Vista 64-bit required iTunes 7.6 or later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1426
Also, make sure you got the version of iTunes 8 for Windows Vista 64-bit

  • My podcasts won't download from the computer to my ipod touch all of a sudden!

All of a sudden my podcasts won't download from the computer to the ipod touch anymore.  It still downloads changes in music and apps, but it just seems to be podcasts.  Can anybody help me diagnose my problem?

If they are video podcasts, they now appear in the Video app after iOS 5.

  • I can't get the music I bought while on my computer to transfer to my iPod touch. I synced it but nothing happened. The computer says my Ipod has all the music but the iPod says differently.

I can't get the music from my computer to my iPod touch. I put it in sync mode and the computer says it did the job and transferred the music correctly but the iPod says it doesn't have the music transferred.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • ITunes not reading iPod Classic?

    Hello, it's me again.
This time, I plugged my iPod in. iTunes is working this time. However, it's not reading my iPod. My computer recognizes it, my iPod recognizes my computer but iTunes isn't picking it up.
    Any ideas?

There's rather a lot of different things that can cause that, E. The following document is probably the best place to start:

  • Computer not reading HDMI adapter

I use a macbook (mid-2010) and use OS X Yosemite. I have used in the past an HDMI adapter to connect my laptop to my TV. However, recently my computer is not reading the adapter. The screen flashes but under devices and under sound preferences no device appears. I checked the HDMI cable with my cable box and it works. The adapter has only been used a couple of times so I don't think that is the problem. Under devices the only option that appears is resolution and brightness. Please help me figure out how to solve this problem. Thank you in advance!

    Hello adupre3,
Thanks for the question, and great isolation so far. The following resource provides some additional steps that you can attempt, including checking all of the connections and resetting the PRAM and SMC:

  • Itunes & Computer not recognizing Ipod

Since we purchased them in December, my wife and I both have both been using our iPod 2nd generation Nanos(2 GB)with our laptop. Suddenly today her iPod is is no longer being recognized by ITunes and the computer.
Her iPod doesnt show up in "My Computer" or the Device Manager. Since it doesnt show up in ITunes at all, I can't force a sync. My iPod is still recognized, so it is not a problem with the USB cable or the USB port.
How can I get ITunes and our computer to recognize her Ipod again-? Is there any other way besides resetting it-?
    Thanks~~

    Try looking into these articles:
iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Mnager is empty
Also, it's possible that this is being caused by drive letter confusion. If the above articles don't seem to help, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Then, after you've done that, disconnect your iPod, and reconnect your wife's iPod to the computer, and see if it is recognized.

  • Windows computer not recognizing Ipod

I have just purchased a 30gb Ipod and have tried to connect it to my computer. My wife's Ipod has no problems being recognized, and neither did mine after a few tweaks. Now it does not recognize the new ipod at all. Any suggestions on how to make this work every time would be appreciated.

  • Computer Not Reading Cd?

I keep putting various cd's in (I listen to a lot of music) and they're not coming up on the computer or in iTunes. It used to just happen every now and then, but now it's almost constant. I've just tried three different CD's and it's not recognizing them at all. When I put a disk in, it takes it, thinks about it, then spits it out again. Is this something that I should bring it to the experts for?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC; then, try again.
