Computers not appearing in WSUS downstream replica server

Hello guys,
I need your advice on the setup of the replica servers. I currently installed a WSUS replica downstream server on one of our locations for the clients/servers in the same place to get the updates locally.
Now we are on Server 2012, on this box has WDS service working and I have decided to setup a WSUS replica here. So added WSUS role & SSL is enabled, so ports 8531 & 8530 are allowing traffic on the replica server. Now synching works fine with the
upstream server as far as updates & computer GROUPS were synch fine. Now the issue, is the computers are not showing up in the computer groups for the replica server in contrast with the upstream which has the computers. What could  be the reason?
I have configured already the GPO for the clients intended to get updates for the replica, client side targeting & "Specify a MS intranet location..." is configured with the REPLICA servername:port. Am I missing anything? Please help..
Thank you, Mon

Hi Mon Laq,
Please check your upstream and downstream server have any event occur, the client which not reporting must have error log.
Check if name resolution is working for parent server from this replica server, GPO were not applied correctly, please to confirm the sync between the upstream
and downstream server is working properly,

  • Why do server(s) not appear in WSUS??

I'm a WSUS newbie who has installed WSUS on Win2k12 R2, using the WID...I was looking forward to this until I became stymied. :( :(
I have not yet installed the April 2014 MS updates to the server and will wait till I fix this...
I have a GPO called Servers WSUS Updates, with the target group Servers WSUS Updates, which is also the name of the OU for the servers receiving WSUS updates. I only have one server in this OU now for testing.
This server does not appear in WSUS and gpresult /r does not show the GPO applying to the server itself.
It does not seem to matter if I use http://wsus or http://wsus:8530...
I've done gpupdate /force on the DC several times and then gpresult /r several times on the server...
How and where do I figure out if this is a GP or WSUS problem?? -- since there's two parts, the GPO doesn't seem to apply to the server, and WSUS does not see the server...
    Thank you, Tom

gpresult /r does not show the GPO applying to the server itself.
Well... that would seem to be a significant clue, and makes this a Group Policy issue not a WSUS issue. :-)
It does not seem to matter if I use http://wsus or http://wsus:8530...
Yep. If the policy is not being applied, it doesn't make a bit of difference what's configured in the policy .. but for the record, since your WSUS server is on WS2012, the correct URL is http://wsus:8530.
I've done gpupdate /force on the DC several times
Why? Is the DC the one intended WSUS client? While we're on the subject... is WSUS running on the DC?
and then gpresult /r several times on the server...
And still the policy does not apply, suggesting the problem is more basic. How long did you wait after creating the GPO? If less than 2 hours this may simply be a function of running the GPUPDATE on the wrong machine.
How and where do I figure out if this is a GP or WSUS problem??
Oh, it's definitely a GP problem.
since there's two parts, the GPO doesn't seem to apply to the server, and WSUS does not see the server
Simply logic applies here. If the GPO doesn't apply, then the CLIENT cannot possibly communicate with the WSUS Server. Also, a most important fact to understand.. the WSUS server does not talk to clients. You might find it useful to review the WSUS Product
    Documentation.

  • Computers Not Registering With WSUS

    Hi
i have just replace one of my old WSUS servers with a new WSUS 3.0 server standalone
i never transferred the old metadata from the database from the old WSUS server the new one i might add as i wanted a fresh system and new database
Slowly over the last week machines have been getting detected but its only a small number around 37/100.
its configured to use Group policy and in the GP settings i have changed the "Microsoft update service location" to the new server
i have matched the settings between the 2 servers.
There are 2 GP settings for WSUS one for computers and one for servers, i have created the 2 computer categories on the WSUS server and machines are getting put into there correct group, the issue is its not picking up all the systems on the domain
    any suggestions?
    Many Thanks
    Gordon

    any suggestions?
My first guess would be that you've not applied the required patches to your new WSUS v3 server.
At a minimum that would be KB2734608, but if any of your clients have updated from WU/MU in the last year, then it's more likely that you'll need KB2938066.

  • Shared computers not appearing on Apple TV

    Hi
I had previously set up my Apple TV and itunes sharing with my iMac.
I have upgraded to 10.8.2 on the iMac and just upgraded the Apple TV to 5.2.
Under Settings on Apple TV, under Computers, the Apple TV tells me that libraries in home sharing will appear.  But no computers or libraries appear.
The only distinction I see is that my itunes account was created as a @mac.com and the TV states @me.com.
Do I need to change my @mac.com to @me.com?  Is there some other reason what my library does not appear?
The photos I've shared do appear as screen saver and home sharing is turned on in iTunes.
Not sure how to better word my question.

We recently downloaded 4 movies to the shared macbook pro and only 1 will show up in the apple tv's shared movies. There doesn't seem to be any reason why. They're all MP4s and all can be played within itunes without issue.
Right click and do a Get Info on one of these files - what is the resolution/bitrate?
I assume these are not from iTunes store - just because they play in iTunes does not guarantee AppleTV playback.

  • Networked Vista computers not appearing automatically in Finder

    Hello,
I am having a hard time getting any of my networked Vista machines to show up in the left column of the finder menu. I can access the Leopard's public folder from any of the Vista machines, and I can access any of the Vista machines through smb://"computer name" or smb://ip - they're just not automatically showing up in finder.
I have all the computers on the same workgroup (including the Mac), and I have network discovery, public folder / file sharing, and printer sharing enabled on everything (including the Mac). I have turned the Vista firewall off completely and even changed inbound / outbound permissions in the advanced menu, but nothing makes the computers appear automatically in the finder menu.
I found this article and, according to it, I've done everything correctly.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1277379
It seems I have come to the same conclusion they have:
+"7) So all of the above seems to be great, and you still don't see things in your finder.+
+Can you connect manually with option-k by BOTH IP address (smb://192.168.15.109) and hostname (smb://mastershake)?+
+If so, the issue is with browsing only. If you can do both of the above (IP AND NetBIOS name) and you still cannot see entries in Network, there may be a real bug. I've noticed that Vista machines (with Network Discovery enabled) don't always show up correctly, while XP systems show up every time."+
    What do you guys think?

    Called Applecare,
My issue went all the way up to an "Apple Engineer."
They told me 10.5 does not actively search for SMB shares.
I say "That is impossible because XP is automatically listed in the Finder sidebar anytime a computer is available."
I get an 'over the phone shrug' and that was the end of the call.
Can some network genius out there help me?!?

  • Sent messages do not appear in sent folder - IMAP server

In my mac mail program, I have a .mac account and a gmail account, both of which work fine on all accounts. I also use another email account which is on an IMAP server. If I send an email from the webmail site, the sent message appears in my sent folder both at the webmail site AND in the folder on my mac email client. If I send an email using the mac email client, the message arrives to the destination, but no sent copy appears either in the sent folder on the mac client or at the webmail site. Please help!!

    Hi David,
Where in the Sidebar to the Mail window, does the
Sent folder appear, if one does, for the .mac
    account?
    Ernie
    Ernie,
The sent folder (little airplane icon) for the .mac folder automatically appeared under my email accounts (in fact, both sent accounts - for my gmail and .mac - appeared as subfolders of the sent folder) when I set those accounts up. Those both work fine, though. It's the IMAP account that isn't working.

  • Send-file nocache parameter does not appear to work in web server 7U1

    Hi all,
I tried the nocache parameter on my webserver 7U1 deployment and it appears to have no affect - i.e. the specified files are still cached.

    </Object>
Any body else have this problem w/ web server 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Rob

    Hi guys,
Thanks very much for the help - it was enough for me think more about it and solve the problem.
To answer mv's question, I did previously try the nocache on the default object and it didn't work either (but I will explain the reason below). I knew the file was cached, by seeing the old file in the browser even when refreshed and when checking the access log, the returned byte size was the same as the old file.
elving's comments indirectly led me to the problem, and I'm embarrassed to say it was actually an application error. We're using virtual web servers, and I had been modifing the correct obj.conf file (confirmed by server.xml) - the problem was that the application setting was pointing to the same physical server, but using a different hostname - d'oh!
So in other words, I was updated the conf file correctly for virtual server aaa.com, but the app was set to bbb.com (same physical machine), so the same file was being retrieved but my nocache directives for aaa.com we're being ignored.
Anyway, thanks again everyone for their help - much appreciated!!
    cheers,
    Rob

  • Patches not visible in SCCM 2007 Site server even after approving the patches in WSUS

    Hi,
The patches are not appearing in SCCM 2007 site server after approving the same patches in WSUS.
    Below are the patches.
    MS14-080: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer - Windows Server 2008 SP2 - IE 7 - KB3008923 [23,186.1]

MS14-033: Vulnerability in Microsoft XML Core Services Could Allow Information Disclosure - Windows Server 2008 SP2 - KB2939576 [1,8.1]
MS14-025: Vulnerability in Group Policy Preferences Could Allow Elevation of Privilege - Windows Server 2008 SP2 - KB2928120 (x64) [1,7.8]
MS13-014: Vulnerability in NFS Server Could Allow Denial of Service - Windows Server 2008 R2 Gold/SP1 (x64) [1,7.7]
I have approved the above patches in WSUS and ran syncronization. The log wsyncmgr.log show that synchronization is done and even all child sites are syncronized. But I am unable to find the above even in the parent site. Checked all the SUP settings and
all the 2008 server updates are set and marked to download.
Please help me out on fixing this.

So you should NEVER approve anything in WSUS. This will cause problems with your clients. Honestly since you approved things in WSUS, I would uninstall WSUS and reinstall it, reinstall the SUP, this will clear up any issues that now exist.

  • WSUS 6 upstream server will support WSUS 3 SP2 downstream server or not

In our company WSUS upstream server operating system is windows 2012 r2. I would like to know can we install downstream server in windows 2008 r2 (WSUS 3.0 sp2) it will download approved patches from upstream server.
WSUS 6 upstream server will support WSUS 3.0 SP2 downstream or not?

No post-installation instruction in the KB article.
Then you should READ the article again. Let me help:
    How to apply this update
We recommend that you synchronize all WSUS servers after you apply this update. If you have a hierarchy of WSUS servers, apply this update, and then synchronize your servers from the top of the hierarchy on down. To synchronize your servers in this manner,
    follow these steps:
Note Before computers that are running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 can be updated by WSUS 3.2 servers, you must complete these steps.
Start the process with WSUS 3.0 SP2 that synchronizes with Microsoft Update.
    Apply this update.
    Start a synchronization.
Wait for the synchronization to succeed.
Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each WSUS 3.0 SP2 server that synchronizes to the server that you just updated.
    Known issues with this update
If you have Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 clients that synchronized with WSUS 3SP2 before you applied this update, wait for the update to be applied to the WSUS servers, and then follow these steps:
On the affected client, open cmd.exe in elevated mode
Type the following commands. Make sure that you press Enter after you type each command:
    Net stop wuauserv
    rd /s %windir%\softwaredistribution\
    Net start wuauserv

  • Wsus downstream server not showing up

    OS: Windows 2003
    WSUS: 3.0 SP1
Architecture: 3-tier WSUS, Level 1 approve/decline updates and sync with microsoft update websites; Level 2 is replica of Level 1; Level 3 is downstream servers of Level2 and configed into autonomous mode.
We have a 3-tier WSUS infrastructure in test mode. The WSUS.Level1 server gets updates directly from Microsoft Updates. WSUS.Level2 server is a replica server of Level 1 server, i.e., upstream server is WSUS.Level1.  There are more than 20 other Level 3 WSUS servers use WSUS.Level2 as the upstream servers. Level 3 servers are setup as autonomous mode at this moment.
The Level 3 servers were created from an image that were sealed and syspreped before restoring the Image.
    Microsoft Updates Server -> WSUS.Level1 -> WSUS.Level2 -> 20 other WSUS Level 3 servers
Q1: there are only three Level 3 servers showing up in the Level 2 WSUS downstream server list (should be more as we have 20 WSUS level 3 servers). When I tried to manually sync from any Level 3  server, it will show up in the Level 2 WSUS downstream server list. However, it will replace one of the three servers that is already listed. Always 3 downstream servers showing up in Level2,  always! Any idea why this happens

    <sigh>....
SYSPREP is not an appropriate tool to be used for imaging machines with *APPLICATIONS* installed, particularly if those applications use GUIDs to uniquely identify the machines, as WSUS downstream servers do.
So, ironically, only two threads earlier I answered this very identical scenario . . .
In theory, you should be able to do this to 'reset' these GUIDs...
    1. Synchronize the downstream server so that it shows up in the console of the upstream server.
    2. Set the downstream server synchronization schedule to MANUAL.
    3. Modify the Options | Update Source and Proxy Server | Update Source page to make this an upstream server.
    4. Delete the server from the Downstream Servers node of the upstream server's console.
    5. Modify the Options | Update Source and Proxy Server | Update Source page to make this a downstream server again.
    6. Initiate a synchronization.
You won't see any difference after performing these steps on the first server.
When you'll know this is working is if the second server shows up in the console after Step #6.
Repeat Steps #1 through #6 for the other three servers.
