Concat rows into one string for display on report

I have a result set having 1 column and multiple rows.
On the report I just want to display all the rows comma separated.
For example:
Name
RAM
GURU
Sundar
Shyam
Inba
KalaiOutput:
"RAM, GURU, Sundar, Shyam, Inba, Kalai"Any help appreciated
Thanks.

Hi,
it's ok like this.
The result will be your return value.
The reason is that if you choose context instead of value that you could have more than one return value.
In your case you could use the code of Rohit and then just map it like
input (with context E1EDPT1) -> UDF -> target

  • Need to concatonate multiple values for same key columns into one string

    Hi...I'm attempting to use PL/SQL to read through a table containing more than one column value for a set of keys, and concatonate those values together into one string. For example, in the STUDENT table, for a STUDENT_ID there are multiple MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED such as History, Biology and Mathematics. Each of the majors is stored in a different row with the same STUDENT_ID due to different faculty DEPARTMENT values.
    I want to read through the table and write out a single row for the STUDENT_ID and
    concatonate the values for MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED. The next row should be another STUDENT_ID and the MAJORS ACCOMPLISHED for that student..etc.
    I've hit a wall trying to use cursors and WHILE loops to get the results I want. I'm hoping someone may have run across this before and have a suggestion. Tks!!

    I think you are looking for string aggregation.
    The following are the replies posted by me in the forum recently on the same case.
    they might help you.

    Look up the LISTAGG() function in the documentation for your version (assuming it is there) and see if it can do what you want

  • Output strings from loop into one string

    im trying my best to explain my problem so ber in mind:)
    hey having a bit of trouble with outputing strings from loop
    example
    i typed ab into the textbox
    the output should be 12
    but since it is in a loop it would only output the last string and in this case is 2
    im trying to get both strings from the loop and output strings from loop into one string.
    here is some of my code to understand my problem
    // characters a to f
         char[] charword = {'a','b','c','d','e','f'};
         String charchange ;
      // get text from password textbox
                          stringpassword = passwordTextbox.getText();
                          try {
                          // loop to show password length
                          for ( int i = 0; i < stringpassword.length(); i++ ){
                          // loop to go through alfabet
                          for (int it = 0; it < charword.length; it++){
                             // if char equals stringwords
                               if (stringpassword.charAt(i) == charword[it]){
                                    System.out.print("it worked");
                                    // change characters start with a
                                    if (charword[it] == 'a'){
                                         charchange = "1";
                                    // change to 2
                                    if (charword[it] == 'b'){
                                         charchange = "2";
                                        }

    Not sure how you are displaying the result but you could display each value as soon as you find it.
    if (charword[it] == 'a'){
        System.out.print("1");
    }If it is in a text field then use append. Or if you really need a String with the entire result then use concatenation.
    if (charword[it] == 'a'){
        charchange += "1";
    }

  • Merging rows into one row but into SEPARATE Columns

    Hello Gurus,
    I have searched alot on OTN and many other places, but no where I could get the solution of how can we merge rows into one row but separate column. For example
    Consider the below scenario
    "DEPARTMENT", "EMP","NAME","SUBJECT"
    "Electronics","1","Sam","LIC"
    "Electronics","2","Pam","VLSI"
    "Electronics","3","Tom","C"
    "Mech","1","Abu","Thermo"
    "Mech","4","Lina","Machines"Now, I need the output like
    Based on Department as Group By Clause
    "DEPARTMENT", "EMP1","NAME1","SUBJECT1","EMP2","NAME2","SUBJECT2","EMP3","NAME3","SUBJECT3"
    "Electronics","1","Sam","LIC","2","Pam","VLSI","3","Tom","C"
    "Mech","1","Abu","Thermo","4","Lina","Machines"
    The row data to be loaded into separate columns. Name of the column is not an issue... can be anythingIn all the forums which I went through I could find them loading into a single column, but not into respective separate columns.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Frank,
    I saw your name nearly n number of times, as I went through many forums today... And the link which you have just posted, I went through it today afternoon.
    Could you please explain this bit taken from your dynamic pivot post.
    SELECT     DISTINCT
         ',     COUNT (CASE WHEN job = '''
    ||     job
    ||     ''' '     AS txt1
    ,     'THEN 1 END)     AS '
    ||     job
    ||     '_CNT'     AS txt2
    FROM     scott.emp
    ORDER BY     txt1;Many Thanks.You only need that when you need column aliases based on the actual data (and you explicitly said you don't need that) or when can't put an upper bound on the number of columns to be displayed. If that doesn't apply to this problem, then don't use any kind of dynamic SQL (like the code above); it makes the job much more difficult, less efficient and less robust.
    Here's what the code above is doing.
    If you were hard-coding a query that showed the number of people in each job, and you knew that the possible jobs were 'ANALYST', 'CLERK' and 'MANAGER', then you might hard-code a query like this:
    SELECT    deptno
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'ANALYST'  THEN 1 END)     AS analyst
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'CLERK'    THEN 1 END)     AS clerk
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'MANAGER'  THEN 1 END)     AS manager
    FROM       scott.emp
    GROUP BY  deptno
    ;If the jobs had different names, or if there were not 3 different jobs, then you would have to change the lines in the SELECT clause that start with ", COUNT ( CASE ...".
    The code you posted is from an example of dynamic SQL, where you first run a Preliminary Query . (What you posted above is, in fact, the complete preliminary query.) The output of that preliminary query is exactly the variable part of the real query, such as:
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'ANALYST'  THEN 1 END)     AS analyst
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'CLERK'    THEN 1 END)     AS clerk
    ,       COUNT (CASE WHEN job = 'MANAGER'  THEN 1 END)     AS managerYou then use this output as part of your main query. In other words, you can write something today that will generate exacrly as many columns as you need next year, with names from the data as it is next year. How? because you're not writing the full query today. The variable part will be written by the preliminary query when it runs next year.

  • Combining string array elements into one string

    Right, I have an string array called str which stores 1 character in each of its 16 elements. It gets this character from another array, strArray. Now, what I want to be able to do is to take all 16 elements and combine them into one string called keyString. Using the code below keyString only prints out the last character. The code is shown below:
    for (x=0; x<16; x++) {
         str = new String[16];
         str[x] = "";
         str[x] += (strArray[(index+x)%16].charAt(strChar[x]));
         keyString = str[x];
           System.out.print(keyString);
    }Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Edited by: Paragon96 on May 20, 2008 7:32 AM

    your logic is wrong ; if you want to concatenate the content of the array, you have to loop (what you did), and concatenate keyString for each index, meaning:
    keyString += str[x];you can also use a StringBuilder for such kind of operations

  • How to coalesce many rows into one?

    I am using SSMS 2008 R2 and am simply trying to coalesce many rows into one. This should be simple I think, but it is currently repeating data in each row. Consider:
    create table test
    Name varchar(30)
    insert test values('A'),('B'),('C')
    select * from test
    select distinct Name, coalesce(Name + ', ', '')
    from test
    How can I rewrite this to achieve one row like: A,B,C
    Ryan D

    Or as a variation
    Declare @S varchar(MAX)
    set @S = ''
    select @S = @S + ', ' +Name
    from test
    Select substring(@s, 2, length(@s))
    Would be interested to know performance difference between this style and the XMLPath used by Naomi though. The XMLPath technique certainly looks cleaner
    A samll correction for RyanAB's solution:
    Select substring(@s, 2, len(@s))

  • Concatenate multiple columns into one string

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle 11.2, how can I concatenate the value of multiple columns into one string with one SQL:
    create table testTb(classId number(5), classRoom varchar2(32));
    insert into testTb value(101, 'room101');
    insert into testTb value(101, 'room201');
    insert into testTb value(101, 'room301');
    insert into testTb value(202, 'room444');
    insert into testTb value(202, 'room555');
    I would like to generate the result as followings:
    Class 101 is in room101, room201, room301
    Class 202 is in room444, room555
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Since you're using Oracle 11.2, you can use the aggregate LISTAGG function:
    SELECT       'Class ' || classid
                   || ' is in '
                 || LISTAGG ( classroom
                         ) WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY classroom)
                   AS txt
    FROM       testtb
    GROUP BY  classid
    ;The generic name for concatenating all the strings in a group is String Aggregation . This page shows several ways to do it, suitable for different versions of Oracle.

  • A way to roll up rows into one row

    Is there a way to "roll up" a set number of rows into one row? I would like to have a row that can be expanded into several rows by clicking a plus sign or something similar. Anyway to do this?
    Regards,
    Mark

    Mark,
    Sorry, it didn't occur to me that you meant "hiding". It sounds like you already know how to hide and unhide but unfortunately there are no shortcuts. I agree that it would be nice to have a way to unhide a selected row or column and if my memory serves me I submitted a request for this feature some months ago. May I suggest that you also go to Main Menu > Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.
    The more requests for features they receive the better the chance for getting them in future updates. Best wishes,

  • Blank not Zero for Display in report

    Hi,
    For a Particular Calculated Key Figure X, I get a Zero value using a logic such as
    if Y=0; X=0.
    For Display in Report, Currently it shos the vakue as Zero. I want to show it as a blank vaklue instead.
    Could you suggest how to achiev this ?
    I can not suppress Zero becuase for the other Key Figures in the report, i should show 0 as 0 only.
    Please acknowledge
    Regards
    Shweta

    Hi,
    In the query designer, go to query properties, the button is just before the check query button.  In the Display tab, in the section Number format, you have a setting for Zero Value Display.  Click on the options and select, Suppress Zeros.  You also have the option of showing the zero as something else.
    This setting is different from the Suppress zero setting, which will suppress the line when all key figures are zero.

  • Tcode SD related for displaying a report with completed deliveries

    Dear SAP Experts,
    I would like to ask you a question.
    Is there any Tcode for displaying a report with all the completed outbound deliveries (8000++) or posted goods issues (4900++) with the relevant net values of the relevant sales orders, BEFORE the creation of the relevant billing documents.
    Great Thanks in Advance
    Kind Regards
    John

    You can use transaction VF04 - Billing due list.
