Concepts for reliable data storage

Hi all.
Suppose an application like network stream data recorder/player with cyclic replacement of old data with new one.
Which minimal concepts must be used for prevent data lost? Is transactions mechanism enough?
How to minimize a risk of damage entire database files when power-fail occures (or another event entail unexpected program crash).
Thank in advance.

I did. Opened file manager and chose the network drive. The capsule asks for id and password. After I enter it gives me access. It's empty. I clicked on properties and it tells me I've stored 20.7 G on there. I went to another computer with same results.  I had been running fine off this capsule for several months.

  • Tree interface concept for hierarchical data creation/modification

I am designing an interface for hierarchical data creation and maintenance. The interface will have to provide all basic data modifications options:
edit an existing node, add new child/parent/sibling, as well as removing, sorting, dragging and dropping nodes around. Flex tree control is fully capable of all these functions while coding is not going to be a simple task. Has anyone worked on something like this? Any conceptual ideas?
    Thanks

WOW Odie! You're awesome !! It worked like a charm, I created a view as you suggested:
CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW "VIEW_TASKS_PROJECTS_TREE" ("ID", "PARENT_ID", "NODE_NAME") AS
    SELECT to_char(id) as id
    , null as parent_id
    , project_name as node_name
    FROM eba_task_projects
    UNION ALL
    SELECT to_char(id)
    , to_char(project_id)
    , task_name
    FROM eba_task_tasks;
And then I created a new tree with the defaults and customized the Tree query a bit (just added the links really):
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
    when level = 1 then 1
    else -1
    end as status,
    level,
    "NODE_NAME" as title,
    null as icon,
    "ID" as value,
    null as tooltip,
    'f?p=&APP_ID.:22:&SESSION.::NO::P22_ID,P22_PREV_PAGE:' || "ID" || ',3' as link
    from "#OWNER#"."VIEW_TASKS_PROJECTS_TREE"
    start with "PARENT_ID" is null
connect by prior "ID" = "PARENT_ID"
    order siblings by "NODE_NAME"
Thanks man, you saved me a lot of time and headaches :)

  • Best suited CHARSET for ARABIC DATA STORAGE ???

    HI,
I need to design an Web based application (with database as Oracle 8.1.7 and on WINDOWS NT4.0 platform), that would handle ENGLISH as well as ARABIC (SAUDI ARABIA) data. So i need to store data in both languages.
Which is the best suited CHARSET that you would suggest me to use?
    - UTF-8 format.
    - AR8ISO8859P6.
I have tried using AR8ISO8859P6 setting , but when i try save data from any front end , it stores junk data "??????". i even tried created table withNVARCHAR2 field type.
also i have tried out UTF-8 format ,it works fine for me, but still i need to know why the "AR8ISO8859P6" format CHARSET does'nt work fine for me .

  • TS4009 Refund for data storage purchase for iPhone

What is the email address or phone number to get a refund for iCloud data storage?  Apple says simply to "contact Apple" without more specificity.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57#U
Follow the link. If you are in the US just scroll down to US & there's a link to email and the contact phone numbers.  You can also use express lane.
I received a full refund of my ICloud storage purchase 43 days after purchase! The CSR were phenomenal and just friendly & professional - great experience! I might have lucked-out getting the reps (Shelley & Joshua).
    I called:  1-800-MYIPHONE
The wait was maybe 2 minutes max!

  • Windows 7 64bit Raid 1 Data Storage setup with UEFI and 6TB drives

i just bought a GigaByte MB with UEFI bios, 1 SSD 128GB drive for the OS (boot up), and 2 6TB drives for use in a raid 1 setup for the data storage.
I have been able to install win 7 64bit using the UEFI dvd drive.  I have been able to define the 6TB mirror via the bios (under the Intel Rapid Storage Technology option) .  But when ever i go into windows, and check under Disk Management, i don't
see the raid 1, i see two drives listed for the data, each at 1492 GB.   I should be seeing 1 drive at 5.4TB.
note: I have tried re-installing win7 64bit many times to see if i have missed something.   When i run setup off uefi dvd drive, i see that drive 1 (of what should be part of the mirror) and drive 2 are listed there at the reported 1492 GB size each.
So it seems that win7 doesn't see that mirror that i created via the bios. So is this a bios setting problem somewhere?   i presume on this screen i should see the correct mirror size already.
Also, do i need to install win7 via the uefi dvd if  i don't want to boot off those large drives (i just want to boot off the ssd. But when i did try that using a legacy mode, i couldn't later try to create a single large drive for the mirror using
GPT formatting.  it just wasn't an option.  although the mirror was recognized as 1 drive, but broken into 2TB and 3TB.)
what could i possibly be doing wrong??
    Thanks for any help

Thank You Roger.   I did call Gigabyte.   This is how i solved it with the gigabyte support team.
    1.   Don't try installing Win7 64bit sp1 and setup RAID at the same time.  (even go ahead and unplug those raid drives if you have it plugged in).   The OS should be installed first on the boot drive, but make sure the BIOS is already set
to RAID (not AHCI.  If you already installed OS under AHCI, you need to reinstall OS.  i find this crazy because what if you decide to install raid down the road.. to an existing machine.. you can't do that because of this).     Make sure
to install OS with the UEFI dvd drive option (i had done this).
    2. Once the OS is installed, install all drivers that come for the Motherboard... That should include intel Raid drivers. (note gigabyte support didn't tell me to do this, but i didn't want to take a chance to have to reinstall OS again or have more problems,
    but it makes sense.)
    3. Now i have the GA-H97-Gaming 3 mother board, it had Bios F3.  I upgraded it to F5 as per support tech.
    4. turn off machine, and replug in the two 6TB drives.
    5. after reboot, i find out that i no longer see Intel RAPID Storage Technology. (this should have displayed when i set the SATA Mode Selection to RAID before i started all this business... it did under bios F3, but not under F5.. bug??  i think so,
so i plan on letting gigabyte know about this).  This is a problem.  In Intel RAPID Storage Technology is where you define the RAID in the first place.    OK, well after several reboots.. i tried to use CTRL-I to get to intel's interface
rather than that of the gigabyte bios.   Voila... i define the Mirror...
    6. I am able to boot into OS.   I got to Drive Management.  I now see 1 6TB drive.  I initialize it of course using GPT.  Format it.  All all looks good now.
Hope this helps someone.. took me enough tries to get it right.   I really am bothered about requiring the OS installed in the correct SATA mode just to get RAID working.  As i mentioned, you can't change your mind afterwards without reinstalling
OS.   Also i couldn't even get the OS setup to start when i had those raid drives plugged in.. so make sure to unplug them.
    Best Regards.

  • [iPhone] what is the best practice for storing data? SQLite or Keychain ?

Can't find clear guideline about when and what should I store in Keychain and when to use files, SQLite.
I need to save large array of data that is configuration of application.
This configuration should not disappear in event of application upgrade or reinstall. It should be stored in Keychain, right?

Only use the keychain if you need the added security. Even then it is not meant for large data storage. SQLite allows fast and efficient retrieval of subsets of the data and allows selection with the SQL language. Plists are handy but the entire data must be read in to access any portion so if the amount of data is small this is ideal.

  • WAAS Apliance usable storage -vs- maximum data storage

We are looking into deploying the new Wave 594 and have a question about the drive space. The unit comes with a 500G drive and a second optional 500G drive. In one place on the specs they say optional second hard disk drive for RAID 1 redundancy but under the hardware specs they list maximum data storage as 2 x 500G HDD. Do I have the potential for a total of 1T of space or just 500G Raid1? Also is the space divided up dynamically or are there hard limits? I figure some of this space needs to be allocated to the DRE cache and the rest for other data storage such as prepositioning. I am trying to find out what my maximums would be.
    Brent

    Hi Brent,
    Don't bother.
You cannot change the allocations between the different allocations.
WAAS installation (WAAS rescue disk or preinstalled) will determine the allocation based on :
    The device model
The amount of RAM installed (within the supported specs)
The reason for putting in an additional disk, in a 594, is solely for RAID-1 purposes, you will always end of with 500GB disk space.
You have to ask your Cisco accoung manager for the precise sizing guides, but for a :
594 w/8GB RAM (default) - you'll end up with 80GB of DRE disk cache and 100GB for the CIFS object cache
594 w/12GB RAM - you'll end up with 120GB of DRE disk cache and 100GB for the CIFS object cache
    and these cannot be modied.
    Best regards

  • SR830 data storage for rs232

    Hi,
I found a LabVIEW code here which can storage data from input signal (e.g.A/I)in SR830 and transfer it by the GPIB.
I used function generator to generate a sine wave with frequency:30Hz& Vp-p:100mVolt , conencting to SR830.
Clearly ,I got a correct result when i used the code by GPIB communication interface(left graph).
Than,I tried to change the communication interface RS232 to accept the same signal, but it has mistakes(right graph).
Here is original code "data storage for GPIB"
Here is rewrite code for RS232 by myself, but what's wrong i did?
    Attachments:
    SR830 DATA STORAGE EXAMPLE.VI ‏54 KB
    scan test1.vi ‏43 KB

The SR830 expects three integer arguments (separated by commas) for the TRCA? query:
    * i = 1 or 2 specifies which buffer to download from
    * j >= 0 specifies the starting point
    * k>=1 specifies how many points to download
If you know k, you can calculate the exact number of bytes in the response. For your code, which downloads 4000 points at a time, that will be something like 60 kB (if memory serves, the response in ASCII transfer mode is 15 bytes/value). Make sure that you're not hitting any timeout or serial buffer size limits with a transfer of that size.
Edit: You have your bitrate set to 9600 baud (1200 bytes/second) and a 10 second timeout. That will read 12 kB before timing out, or 1/5th of your transfer. The 830 supports baud rates up to 19,200, which will help, but you'll also need either a longer timeout or to transfer your data in smaller chunks.

  • I need a memory management/ data storage recomendation for my IMac 2 GH Intel Core 2 Duo

Since giving my mid 2007 IMac a 2GB memory boost to accommodate Lion all has been well however my memory is full. I have a sizable ITunes library and 6000 photos in IPhoto, Me thinks I should store this all more effectively for the safety of the music and photos and for the well-being of the computer....but there seems to be choices. Is this where ICloud comes into play or time capsule or should I just get an external mini hard drive. Can anyone help me with some pearls of wisdom with data storage.

    Greetings John,
There are two types of memory which you mention here.
The 2 GB memory you refer to is RAM.  It is not used for storing information.  Rather for giving the computer a place to do much of its work.
File storage is handled by the hard drive of the computer.
If your available hard drive space is getting low you can move larger files to a Mac Formatted external drive:
    Faster connection (FW 800) drives:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H2068VC/A
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW315VC/A
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H0815VC/A
    Normal speed (USB) drives:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H6581ZM/A
Larger files can include entire databases like iTunes, iMovie, or iPhoto.
Keep in mind that if you move these items to an external drive you will have to have the drive plugged in and powered on to access the data on them.  In addition, if you move important information off your internal drive to an external, you should be sure that your backup solution is backing up that external drive to keep your information safe.
iCloud is not a file storage solution and TimeCapsule is not suited for storing databases like those mentioned above (its meant primarily as a backup solution).  I would stick with an external drive (1 to hold your big files and another one big enough to backup both your computer and the first drive).
Here are some other general computer clean up suggestions: http://thexlab.com/faqs/freeingspace.html.
    Hope that helps.

Can I connect My Passport HD into my Airport Extreme's USB port to access it from my computers (27" iMac 2012 now using Yosemite) on that Wifi network for data storage and retrieval purposes?

Yes, if the AirPort base station's hardware supports 802.11n. The drive needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), FAT16, or FAT32, and may need to be connected through an USB hub with its own power supply.

  • How to use a 2nd partition for data storage?

The 40 GB hard disk on my satellite L10 was delivered with two 20 GB partitions (drive C and D). I now understand (by reading this forum) that it is preferred to use one partition for data storage.
Until now there was no need to use the D-drive. But by now I need the extra space.
How can I use the folders structure in windows XP home (My Documents etc) and put the data on the D-drive.
We work on this computer with several accounts.
I tried to move one folder out of My Documents to the D-drive, but then it can be reached by the other users. Should I use shortcuts towards the D-drive? I hope there is a simple solution.
    Thanks in advance.
(I tried my best to write this in English....)

    Hi
I didnt tried it before but you can try to make your personal folder on D partition. The notebook administrator should set the security settings that can be found under folder properties. Go to Security tab and check all permissions for other users. Choose Deny option for all of them.
I believe that on this way you can use your data folder alone and be sure that other users can not read or execute any of your private data.
Please let me know if it works properly.

  • Using a partitionned cache with off-heap storage for backup data

    Hi,
Is it possible to define a partitionned cache (with data into the heap) with off-heap storage for backup data ?
I think it could be worthwhile to do so, as backup data are associated with a different access pattern.
If so, what are the impacts of such off-heap storage for backup data ?
Particularly, what are the impacts on performance ?
    Thanks.
