Concerened about Vodafone support.

Hi,
I'm a member of the Vodafone eForum and I have a couple of concerns I wish to raise about Vodafone Customer Support.
I signed up primarily to enquire about firmware updates for the N95 8GB, which is my first concern.
I am a bit miffed and disappointed to hear that they may not release the v30.x.x.xx firmware as they deem the handset to be no longer supported, even though the handset is still under Nokia's 24 month warranty and Vodafone's warranty. I still have issues with the handset crashing, hanging and restarting, sometimes in mid call. Vodafone insist that I send the handset to them for repair.
A task I am reluctant to undertake on the grounds of my second concern that a large majority of people on the Vodafone eForum are reporting that Vodafone's repair agents are voiding the warranties on the grounds that the handsets have "Water Damage" when the owners are adamant that the handsets have not been near water.
This issue centers mainly around the Nokia N95 8GB and the N96. Now there's one of two things that could be happening here: either someone is telling porkies or the N95 8GB and N96 are susceptible to condensation forming inside the handset when being carried in the pocket. I beleive this is something that does need addressing as there are a lot of Nokia owners, including myself who feel they are on the receiving end of unfair and unjust treatment.
I would be interested to hear other peoples views on this, as some of the eForum members (including myself) are planning on making further enquiries as to where we stand.
Thanks
Mick

One of the the easy ways to spot water damage to a phone is from small labels inside the phone which changes colour is it comes into contact with moisture. Sometimes, these labels are buried inside the phone, but on some models (including the N95), one such label can be seen in the battery compartment, as in the attached image.
The best thing you can do is seek a second opinion from a Nokia service point. The manufacturer will support you for the full term of the warranty, irrespective of the sales/production status of the phone. It is not unusual for networks to stop supporting phones when they stop selling new ones, this is often why updates stop being approved.

  • Question about SAP Support pagackes

    Hi all
I am trying to understand more about SAP Support packages. Can anyone please help me to answer the following questions.
    1. How do we find out  waht version of Support package currently installed on our system. ( e.g what command or transaction provides this info).
    2. How do we find the latest support pack available from SAP?
    3.   Do we have to apply support pack to each component or to each module e.t.c
        ( Any command or tranaction....)
    4.  What is a  differnce between SAP kernel support pack and SAP Note.
    5. Is it requirement to  apply support package from SAP solutaion manager or can also be applied throught transaction
    Thank you very much....

    Hi Julio,
    1. How do we find out waht version of Support package currently installed on our system. ( e.g what command or transaction provides this info).
Go to Txn SPAM --> Click on Package Level --> Check the level against SAP_BASIS or SAP_ABA
    2. How do we find the latest support pack available from SAP?
    http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks --> SP Stack Information
    3. Do we have to apply support pack to each component or to each module e.t.c
    ( Any command or tranaction....)
There will be support packs for each component like SAP_BASIS,SAP_ABA,SAP_BW .. etc and you can apply them through SPAM.
    4. What is a differnce between SAP kernel support pack and SAP Note.
Kernels are central program that are required to run SAP system and these programs reside in OS level.Kernel support pack means correction to these cental programs .There is no transaction for this. You can replace the existing files with the new one ( in simple words ) . SAP note means correction to SAP programs , more than one SAP note is called a Support pack and Note can be implemented using SNOTE and Support packs using SPAM
    5. Is it requirement to apply support package from SAP solutaion manager or can also be applied throught transaction
Now you need Solution Manager to download Support packs from SMP.You can apply SPs in the target system without using Solman.
    Thanks

  • "About your support coverages"

I have to verify service coverage for my product, but I'm having trouble finding the box "About your support coverages"?
    Thanks a lot.

    partyskinke wrote:
I don't think that's the one... This is the message I got from Apple:
"To verify service coverage for your product, please visit <http://www.apple.com/support>. If necessary you may “Select Your Country” on the right side of the page. Under "About Your Support Coverage" on the right side of the page, enter your product's serial number and click Go. You will see the purchase date from our records, model name, web support resources, and AppleCare support agreement status."
The *About Your Support* is no longer there. The pages have been updated. The link I gave is the same as the link on the page you gave. The link on the support page says *Check My Warranty and Repair Options*
I just tested the link and it gave me my information for service coverage. All the different pages that say *Check Warranty Coverage* lead to the page I gave. You can go to the main MacBook page and reach it through that link also. They all end up where I suggested you look.
If it doesn't work for you call Apple Support and they can help you.

  • Information about GPUs supported by Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hi,
I'm going to buy a new nVidia video card and, because of I'm very passionate of video editing, I want finally have one supported by Premiere Pro CS5.5. I've read something about that on the Adobe site, and I've found a list of supported GPUs:
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
    GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
    GeForce GTX 570 (Windows)
    GeForce GTX 580 (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3700M (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800M (Windows)
Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro FX 5800 (Windows)
    Quadro 2000 (Windows)
    Quadro 2000D (Windows)
    Quadro 2000M (Windows)
    Quadro 3000M (Windows)
Quadro 4000 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro 4000M (Windows)
    Quadro 5000 (Windows)
    Quadro 5000M (Windows)
    Quadro 5010M (Windows)
    Quadro 6000 (Windows)
    Quadro CX (Windows)
Now I'm asking, if I bought a GTX 550, which is not in the list, would it be supported? I think so becase, however, it should be better than, for example, a GTX 470, instead present in the list. But I have this doubt... Can you clarify my ideas?

    Welcome to the forums!
It depends on what you mean by supported.  If you mean can you use either of them then the answer is yes. The supported list is those cards specifically have been tested by Adobe and are listed in the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" file  If you have another card you may have to add it to that file.  If you take a look at the Premiere Pro BecnMark (PPBM5) you will see that many other cards are being used by people that have submitted their results,
The more important factors that you should consider is the number of CUDA cores and how much power your system can supply to this upgrade that you intend to do.  The 470 has 448 CUDA cores and requires 215 watts.  The 550 is of course a slightly new design but it is at the low end of the CUDA cores with only 192 cores but it only draws 116 watts.  Either could require you to upgrade your power supply depending on how much spare power is available in your power supply.
Here are some boards that I personally tested about a month ago (prices may have changed) showing PPBM5 (MPEG2-DVD, H.264 and Rendering the Timeline) encoding times versus board type.

  • Should I upgrade to Macericks now from 10.6.8 on my i-Mac(mid 2007, core 2 duo?). Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ? 10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about future supportibility?

Should I upgrade to Mavericks now from 10.6.8 (i-Mac, mid 2007, core 2 duo)? Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ?  I have the latest version of 10.6.8 and have upgraded my memory to 4GB. This could be one reason for me to make the move now.
10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about lack of support now. I know my PC apps will not work but maybe some apps that work now will "walk away" from 10.6.8 and then there's the security question of above.
I am also concerned about iPhoto 9 transition to i-Photo 11 and compatibility of my Time Machine WD Passport HD (format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) based on several questions in applicable forums.
Thanks for your help in this important decision!

If I were you I would stick with Snow Leopard. It's much better suited to your old hardware. That said:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Where can I find information about official support being ended bij Apple concerning 10.6.8?

Yes I am aware the policy somewhere stipulated n-2 or the 2 latest version of current OSX...
Yet I like to know if a official date is mentioned for those still running 10.6.8 when it comes to security updates etc.

Apple doesn't announce when they will stop supporting a operating system version, we sort of figure it out ourselves by the lack of security updates.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222
For instance 10.6 didn't get Safari 6 with it's slew of security fixes, so it's time to no longer use Safari, but another browser that does provide timely updates.
If you been following the news about Flashback botnet and 600,000 compromised Mac's, with nearly 300 in CupertinoHQ itself, then you will know it was caused by Apple not providing security updates for 10.5 and later since 10.7 was released, slow to update Java on 10.5 and later for all OS X versions.
Apple finally dragged 10.5 (Intel) out of mothballs and provided a update for it in May, also is now updating Java on a timely basis. In fact 10.5 Intel, 10.6, 10.7 will disable Java if it's not used after awhile. Only because of the Flashback botnet, closing the barn door after the horse has already escaped.
Apple again seems to be repeating it's same mistake with Java again with Safari 6, not providing updates for older OS X users.
In fact Google was severly hacked once and since they tend to use all Mac's... I wonder...
OS X security is good, it's just Apple's management/corporate policy is screwed up really bad, like they are asleep at the wheel or doing dope or something, leaving stuff unpatched.
If programmers can't fix issues they know they need to fix, then what can they do right? They have to earn a living and feed their kids.
Apple needs to support all their OS X verisons in major circulation, the death of hardware will do the natural turnover thing, there is no need to deny security updates for machines currently in circulation, especially 10.6 which is over 50% right now.
But Apple never listens because they are morons sometimes.

  • Confusion about Dolby support in Vista and SB c

    Hi,
This may have already been posted but I'm still confused. I have heard that the drivers for Vista do not support full Dobly Digital/DTS decoding. Does this mean that when I watch a movie in PowerDVD 8 I won't get decoding for DD or DTS, or is this just at the base OS driver level? If I watch a movie what will I get? I'm getting a new computer and am concerned about this.
    Any ideas?
    thanks.

If you have either Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Standard or Deluxe the audio features would be at a software level. Not in hardware decoding.
If you only have "Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Standard". That only comes with Dolby Digital 5., a audio add-on upgrade pack is required to get the DTS audio features.
The "Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Deluxe" will come with Dolby Digital EX (7. ch), Dolby Digital (5. ch), DTS 96/24 Decoding at a software level. Also, if you want more audio enhanced features (DTS-ES Matrix and DTS-ES Discrete; DTS Neo:6) a audio add-on pack is required.
The "Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Ultra" has all the audio features included listed above, plus you get, Dolby TrueHD (7.-channel) and DTS-HD (7.-channel).

  • Knowledge about the support project

    Dear All,
When we are taking up the support project, could any one help me what are the knowledge i should have about the client before take the project?
    Thanks in advance
    With Regards,
    S.Balachander

    Dear S.Balachander,
    It depends on various factors:
    1. Your role in the project.
    2. Has any of other resources of your company currently working or the project is new to your company.
    3. What are all the modules/Technologies that you would be supporting. etc...
Get knowledge transfer from existing resources, if there are any.
    Go through their Business Process.
Get familiar with the tool that they are using for handling Tickets.
Go through Service Level Agreement. (Time frames for different type of tickets)
Legacy system's if they are using any.
