  • Error: "Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly" during Mac Hot Sync

Hello!  After many years of successfully hot-syncing my Palm m500 to my various Macs, i'm suddenly getting an error message every single time my Hot Sync tries to sync the Datebook data:
The application Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Relaunch to launch the application again.
i've already tried reattaching the USB cables and the Palm m500 into the cradle, and rebooting my Mac several times, and removing the "com.palm.xxxx.plist" files and the "Palm Desktop Info" file from my users/library/preferences folder.   and i've spent several hours cruising these forums but nothing has worked.  I've tried hot synching about 10 times in the last 12 hours but i keep getting this same error.
i also tried slowing down my hot sync by pressing the Shift key on my Mac during the entire hot sync, but i still get this error:
    Conduit Manager:  Unexpected error #-111
i tried to paste my full log report below but i ran into the 20k character limit for this form.  since it looks like it's "Thread 4" that is causing the crash, i've deleted other parts of the log report but can send those to you in another posting if that would help.
thanks in advance for any help you can offer!  i love my Palm m500 as I much prefer it to Apple's iCal system and would like to fix this problem so I don't need to abandon my Palm!

    Post relates to: Palm m500

I had the same problem syncing my Palm TX with 10.5.8.  After being without my Palm for 3 weeks, I bought Snow leopard, and all was fine again.  I found out at an Apple store that 10.5.8 was full of propblems, and this was one of them.
Fast forward: I've been using 10.6 ever since it was released, happily syncing away with my Palm ... until Friday night (2 days ago), when it stopped working, and then I discovered that Palm does not and will not support Mac OS 10.6.  So I'm urgently trying to migrate everything on Palm to my iPod Touch, exporting to 10.4 on an old iBook, since it will still sync with it, then moving the data to my iMac's 10.6, and then syncing with my iPod Touch.
I'm working on the problem now, and have my Schedule migrated, but now need to get my ToDo, Address Book and Memos done.
The 10.6 Address Book (v5.0.1) doesn't support the Palm's custom fields like Tiger's Address Book (4.0.6).  I can't yet find a way to export the Palm's ToDos in a format that iCal can consume, and Notes on the iPod (for my Memos, possibly) is not supported on 10.6 yet for my iPod Touch.
1 step forward, 3 steps back, so far; but absolutely necessary, now that Palm has withdrawn from the Mac market.
Any ideas on these 3 problem areas, from anyone, would be most welcome.

  • Error:  The Application Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly

When trying to perform a HotSync using my Treo 700p, I'm suddenly getting this error: "The Application Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly." I have recently been sent a new Treo to replace a defective Treo, but until I received this new Treo, I have been syncing without problems for over 18 months.
Let me know if anyone has had similar problems and any solutions that you have successfully used.
    Thanks!

If you are saying that you synchronize a single Palm device BOTH at work and at home, you've likely explained why your data has become corrupted. A Palm device was not intended to be, and should never be used as, a 'data carrier' or storage device to move records from one Macintosh to another. To do so will almost always result in serious data corruption over time, the duplication of records and so on.
It can be less problematic to synchronize with a Windows platform on one end and a Macintosh on another, but I don't recommend that, as—once again—it places your records at risk.
Keep in mind that the problematic record or records are on your device, not in iCal, as demonstrated by the Conduit Manager warning. There may also be records corrupted in iCal on your Power Macintosh G5, but that's another issue.
You can correct the G5 issue, but first, it is important for you to outline just what you are presently—and have historically—been doing to 'synchronize' your home and work machines.

  • "The Application Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly."

I reinstalled Tiger because the syncserver got stuck when I tried to sync my Palm Z22.
Now when syncing I get: "The Application Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly." In isync I get "the hotsync software is not properly installed or it has never been opened. Try opening HotSync Manager, then return to iSync and choose Devices>Enable Palm again." even after installing and opening HotSyncManager.
    Can anyone help?

You have a very common problem, most likely caused by your choice to archive and install. Perform one of the following procedures:
Take a look at the permissions of the folders listed below by selecting each folder, one at a time, and—either using the I key sequence or the Get Info option in the File menu of the Finder—opening the information box for the folder. Your permissions for the folders listed below should appear as described below the pathname to that folder:
    For the Macintosh HD:Applications:Palm folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm Desktop folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
You can either reset those values manually, then restart and recheck them to be sure that they are set correctly or use the Terminal application by typing these strings listed below this example—substituting your short user name—as shown below:
    sample: "sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm"
    actual: "sudo chown -R michaellafferty:admin /Applications/Palm"
…where michaellafferty is the <shortusername> in my case. Be sure to pay attention to the spaces in each string, and the direction of the / or \ forward and back slash characters.
Here are the appropriate Terminal entries. Each is is shown bulleted below, but actually begins with the term sudo:
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm
NOTE: at this point, you'll be asked to enter your login password
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Applications/Palm
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
Again, pay particular attention to the spaces and to the \ characters, as both are critical to the syntax of these commands. Remember to place your actual shortusername in the string where the <shortusername> placeholder is shown, as in the sample above. Do not include the < and > characters around your actual shortusername.
As a Palm user, don't elect to archive and install Mac OS X unless there is no other method to do so which insures that your applications and data are preserved.

  • Conduit Manager quits HELP

    Hi All,
I have tried several things to solve my problem and have been unsuccessful.  I have been trying to install a program into my Tungsten E and it will sync my usual data but when it comes to installing the new program I get the message "Conduit manager quit unexpecantly".  It gets me the optio to quit or to retry, when I retry nothing happens.  I contacted the programs help desk and they told me to download it again and O did with the same results.  I downloaded an updated version of the palm software also.
It has been frustrating.  Can you help?
I am a real novice so please speak slowly!
    Thanks in advance

Okay so I got everything to sync... a few times. Turns out I just needed to turn off the other conduits or to have them do nothing. But now it won't do anything when I press the sync button on the connection device, or if I do it through my Palm. What could make it do this? Do I need to reset the Palm and/or computer?
    Confused.

  • Conduit Manager quits unexpectedly

    Hello,
I am trying to sync my Palm OS and iSync. I have followed the instructions from iSync (adding the iSync conduit to the conduit manager, enabling iSync for this device in the conduit manager, etc.). When I press the button to sync on the connection device, it begins to sync and then the "application Conduit Manager quits unexpectedly."
Obviously I am brand new to syncing Palm OS and stuff on my Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated on getting started! Thanks.

  • Conduit Manager Quit unexpectedly

So my Zire 72s has always synced fine with my iMac G5. Until now.
Now, part way through hotsyncing the Conduit Manager disappears and I get an error message that says:
Conduit Manager Quit Unexpectedly. I can then close, report, or try again.
On my palm I eventually get this error message:
    Hotsync Problem:
The connection between your handehld computer and the desktop was lost. Some of your data was NOT backed up. Please check your setup and try again.
So it appears the problem is on the computer end.
I imagine that I simply need to reset my conduit manager or something, but alas, I don't know how.
Can anyone help? This is important and somewhat urgent as I need to sync my appointments.
    Thanks,

So, I use Epocrates RX, a drug reference program, I noticed that the HotSync would quit every time it got to syncronizing Epocrates. So, I tried opening the program on my palm. I would get a "fatal error" message and would then have to restart to palm.
I've since removed the program from the palm and now everything syncs okay.
    Hmmm

  • Conduit Manager quits on sync

I just upgraded to Mac 10.5.5 and am trying to sync a T/X. It starts to sync and then the Conduit Manager crashes. Is there a fix for this?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

I am experiencing the same problem (10.5.5 & Palm 4.2.1). HotSync quits while attempting to synchronise memopad.
HotSync Manager also quits when trying to open Conduit Settings from within Palm Desktop.
Problems were not solved by removing all related plist files...
These is the log-report in Palm:
    Loading “Note Pad Conduit”
        Conduit “Note Pad” version 3.0.0

I have also sent the crash-log to Apple via the automatic reporting possibility.

I have an E2 and a MacBook. Recently, I was attempted in sync ePocrates, which I've never had trouble with. As I was syncing, I received a message stated "Conduit Manager quit unexpectedly." It was consistently during the part of the sync in which ePocrates was updating. I uninstalled both program and did a hard reset on my Palm. After doing all of this I received the same error message. Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem of conduit manager quitting during autosync while updating ePocrates.  I went through the same solution suggested by our epocrates staff person, and also could NOT find "Epocrates Conduit SAVED" in order to delete it .  I also deleted "ePocratesPrep" and " ePocrates_AutoUPdate", got rid of installers, and downloaded ePocrates again.  The autosync worked until during the epocrates portion, when the autosync failed and quit.  Now epocrates won't run at all.  Great.   I'm running Mac OS 10.5.3 and am using Firefox.  Here are the sync logs if they are of any use --  I will send this to ePocrates also.

Just as an aside, this coincides with persistent poor calibration of my E2 Tungsten touch screen that will not respond to recalibration by targets, in spite of all the usual resets (haven't done a hard one yet, was waiting to autosync), checking the physical screen, etc.
    Thanks --

  • BB 9700 - Desktop Manager Crashing when Sync'ing Address Book

    Hi all,
At work, we use Novell Groupwise. Calendar syncs fine, but BB Desktop Manager crashes when I sync addresses. I can load one-way from the computer to the BB, but not the other way. I may have a corrupt address, but haven't been able to get it all to work. What do I do to stop this?
    thanks
    Rowdy

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
First, make sure that the version of GroupWise you are using is compatible with the version of the RIM DTM software that you are using:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
Assuming it is so, then the next steps will depend on the error messages when it "crashes". If you have any text of that, you can try searching for it in the public KBs:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
You also can activate advanced synchronization logging to see if the log provides you with any better information:
KB01451 How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
Good luck and let us know!

  • Vista 64-bit Hot Sync and Palm Desktop

Does anyone know when Hot Sync and Desktop will be available for 64-bit Vista?
    Thanks, Bob.
    Post relates to: Zire 21

At this time there is no ETA on any, if any, cabled solution for syncing palm os devices to Vista/XP 64 bit machines. There is a bluetooth solution that has been stickied to the top of the hotsync board, that is the best solution available at this time.

MY TREO 650 INFO is erased on Palm when using ISYNC & Hot Sync Manager. The sync takes a very long time and eventually I get a message stating it has failed--any solutions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What is the specific message displayed as it fails, and what does your HotSync log say about the failed event? Also, who is your wireless carrier and did they provide this particular device to you?

Are you running any kind of Fax software or modem software on this PC?
I found out Windows Media Center has a function that monitors the phone line to your computer.  It will announce the caller ID of any call coming in, if set to do so.
This was causing problems with some Fax software I wanted to run!  When I turned this setting off, the Com port became available.
