  • JVC HDD Camcorder .MOD & .MOI files don't play

Does anyone know which software is compatible to play these files from the new JVC HDD Camcorders?

Do NOT buy this camera if you want to use iMovie as a home user and avoid any messing about. The Mac software is VERY poor and you may find you need to use free 3rd party conversion software. Taking my 20gb GZ-MG20EK back to the store right away after being mis-sold the JVC 20gb HDD and being told it was fully compatible with iMovie. Its NOT ;-(

  • Help!  JVC HDD Camera and Final Cut Express

    Hello fellow Macsters!
I am using a JVC HDD camera but I realized it doesn't have FIREWIRE only USB 2.0. I am trying to unload my video into my Final Cut Express program but it won't work. Final Cut Express doesn't recognize it and the computer recognizes it as a 'drive'. What can I do to get my video into Final Cut Express and have Final Cut Express recognize this without a traditional firewire cable? Please help it will be greatly appreciated. You can also email me at [email protected]

You could pipe the signal from the JVC to a D/A converter box and then into the Mac, this will work.
    OR
The HDD gives Mpeg2 files that FCE can't directly use. Third party software can de-mux these files before yhey go to FCE. Search this forum for de-mux.

  • Important for users of JVC HDD Camcorder and iMovie HD

I've been having problems using iMovie HD to open my JVC HDD camcorder's videos. Some of you have been very kind in pointing me in a few directions. I thought I'd try and return the favor:
I downloaded MPEG Streamclip and the MPEG-2 Playback Component (both of which can be found easily using google), and used Streamclip to export my video files as .dv files - now I'm using iMovie to attend to my videos with no problems (knock on wood). Thanks everyone for your help! Any questions, just ask!

'cause, for sure the JVC HDDcorders record in mpeg2..
in the beginning, mp2 was meant for disk delievry only, but the HDDcorder manufacturers found it as their codec, to compress the hugh sized streams on that 'tiny' harddrives, 'cause there're chips avail, which do the en- and decoding in realtime..

  • HT1305 how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

Ok, I saw that error in your logic. A Dual G5 2.3 or even a Dual Core 2.3 does NOT use LCS at all. Its air cooled and if anything if the OP is experiencing this problems could be due to possible heatsink paste drying up. He might have to re-apply MX 7 or Arctic Silver.
The only G5's that use LCS are: G5 dual 2.5 from Late 2004, the G5 Dual 2.7 from Early 2005, and lastly the G5 Quad-Core from Late 2005-end of September 2006.
    Hope this helps.

  • External HDD not recognised in Mac Book Pro

I am trying to connect a external HDD to the MacBook Pro. The external HDD used is Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB powered by a USB cord connected to the laptop. The light on the HDD is not glowing neither does it feel like moving when touched.
Can somebody come back with a solution to get the HDD working on the Mac?

By placing the HDD in a different enclosure, one would be testing if the enclosure circuitry is faulty.  Since it works on a PC, then that is not the problem.
noondaywitch may be on the right track.  I note that your HDD has an optional Firewire connector available.  You might order that or get a 'Y' connector where there are two USB connectors that you would insert in two USB ports on your MBP thus gaining more power for the Seagate.  No guarantees of success with either option.
    Ciao.

  • JVC HDD GZ-MG157U --is it compatible w/ iMovie08

I have a JVC HDD camera GZ-MG157U and was told that iMovie08 would solve import problems. Now I've updated to iMovie08 and the file types on the camera do not seem to be "importable". Am I missing something? While somewhat savvy, I am a novice at the video stuff. You all seem to know A LOT so any help or advice would appreciated.

Indeed Jvc everio cam are not fully compatible and even if you manage it you won t be able to access to all files only the 99 firsts of your cam.
The best solution i have found is the software iVerio that can be found at http://www.convertmod.com. Have a look on that site and try it.
It s the best solution for transfering, converting, renaming and dating all your video files, and i have been looking for a soft like this for my camera since 6 months.

  • How to upgrade Sata Hdd to SSD on Mac Book Pro 13"?

I have a Mac book Pro 13" and I want to upgrade my Harddrive to SSD. Also want to know how to do cloning, so that no data loss will be there.
    Regards
    Sid J

what you do is first put the the SSD in an external enclosure and hook it up to your mac.  Then, open disc utility in your utilities folder.  Erase the new SSD and reformat it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Then, run the cloning program and it will make a mirror image of the HDD currently inside your mac to the new SSD in the external enclosure.  Then, remove the SSD from the external enclosure and put in it your mac.  All done!  .  If you are unfamiliar with an external enclosure, they are very inexpensive..here is one I own: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817106115. Any further questions you my have either now or during the process, don't hesitate to ask, I have done this process a handful of times and it is very easy even for the non-techie.

  • FCE and JVC HDD

I have a JVC HDD camera which has movie files not supported by FCE. How can I convert the files to be used in FCE? Is there a recommended software for this?
    Thanks!

MPEG Streamclip (freeware) along with the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple ($19.99 USD) can usually handle the conversion.

  • 24" aluminium imac and JVC HDD camcorder ??

    Hey guys
Some help please. I have just switched to mac from PC and am having trouble opening certain files in the mac.
I have a JVC Everio MG-330 HDD camcorder and the file format is .MOD
I had the same problem opening these files in windows on my old PC and after a bit of research found out all I had to do was change the file extension to .mpg
Now I have tried opening both fiel types in the mac , .MOD and .MPG and I am getting a message saying " cannot open, this is not a movie file. "
I havent imported any of these files into imovie , this is just simply trying to open them from the videos home folder. They just wont open at all.
Can someone offer a solution or tell me what I need to do.
    Thanks.

    Hey!
    Have a read of this....
    Review
    In particular this paragraph......
"UPDATE: Well, after my review of the Everio on the 14th of March I have received a couple of e-mail from interested parties informing me that the comments I made about the .MOD file format not being useable on a Mac, was not totally correct.
The .MOD file is really a ‘MPEG2' and if you have the latest plug-in's on your Mac version of Quicktime you should be able to play these. You can also go to the link below and download the ‘MPEG Streamclip' software, from an Apple recommended website, this OSX application converts the MPEG1 & 2 files to a Quicktime format or DV stream.
    http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html
The original MPEG2 files can apparently be edited in either Apple's Final cut software and Adobe AFX and Premiere but once the files are converted they can be worked on in ‘iMovie', although there is a danger of a loss of sound in the conversion process.
    Then have a look here....
    QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback - Mac OS X
    Might be of some help!

  • JVC HDD Camcorder

My dad just bought me a JVC Everio GZ-MG155 HDD Camcorder yesterday for a late Christmas gift.  He bought it from Best Buy, and the sales guy there said this camera would be compatible with a MAC.  I plugged the camera up into my Windows PC and Windows Media Player cannot playback the files because of some error.
I went ahead and plugged it up to my Macbook and nothing happens.  It appears that my Macbook isn't detecting the camera at all. How do I get it to detect the camcorder?
I'm connecting the camcorder via USB, I didn't see a firewire cable in the package.

I have not tried it on my Windows platform as of yet, but I also have been having problems loading it onto the MacBook Pro, Mac OS X Version 10.5.1, Leopard.
After reading the JVC manual, I discovered that this camcorder DOES work with MAC, but only the MAC OS X Versions 10.3.1 to v10.3.9, v10.4.2 to v10.4.8.... So, I made a bad buyer's mistake and didn't check out the Versions of Mac that the camcorder could adapt to. I have seen other bulletins, though, where others have been able to operate their GZ-MG155 camcorders WITH the version 10.5.1.
Be sure that when you are trying to access the files on the hard drive in the camcorder that you have the camcorder on the platform that comes with it. The platform should be plugged into the wall and should be feeding the camcorder power. Plug the USB connector directly into the laptop- not into an extension USB port, and the other end into the PLATFORM- not into the camcorder itself. Once it is connected in this way, you should turn the power switch to ON on the camcorder and flip open the screen. Once you see the Everio logo on the screen it should bring you to the option of "connect to PC". Choose this option. The Everio hard drive will appear on your desk top.
From here, you open imovie '08. The JVC website has a search box in the upper right hand corner. If you type in the camcorder model a list of applicable articles, FAQs, etc will appear. In this list (search 'site') will appear a link to a tutorial to using the GZ-MG155 with Mac OS X.
I will research that link and post it when I find it again.
Remember this one very important fact: If you have more than 50 movie files or if the total data size exceeds 4300 MB, then your imovie '08 may end up crashing. I don't know if you will end up losing the movies along with it- so be careful with this!
Again, I have yet to get mine to work, but I don't have my platform with me, so I can't try it just yet.
Good luck with this and I hope I've helped!!
I'll reply with that link when I find it again.

  • JVC HDD video editing on Intel imac.

I purchased a JVC GZ-MG37AA camcorder last year and recorded a number of hours of video on overseas visits. It plays back OK on the HDTV. However I wish to edit out certain bits and save to a DVD for showing. This is when I discovered the software supplied with the JVC leaves a lot to be desired. I have been told about Streamclip 1.8 which I have downloaded and I also purchased the Quicktime MPED-2 player from Apple. Without some proper guidance I am unable to get these programs to operate correctly. Is there any way that I can import the MOD files into imovie? I have 6.0.3. I have read some feedback on the apple support which advises not to use HDD camcorders to edit. I appear to be a sucker. I would still like to edit my files even if the quality is not up to scratch. Any simplified suggestions would be appreciated as I am not tottaly computer savvy with video. Thanks.

I have just done a quick test for you converting the TS files from a DVD.
    1. Drag the files onto Streamclip.
    2. Go to File>Export to QuickTime.
    3. In the window that appears change the Compression setting to "Apple DV-PAL", the Quality slider to 100% and ensure that the Frame Size has "DV-PAL" selected.
    4. Try it with the Deinterlace box selected or not. If you select it the conversion will take longer and I cannot see any advantage in the clip I have converted.
You may need to experiment to find the best settings for your needs but the above will give you something to get started.
    Ian.

  • How can I move my three SATA HDDs to the new Mac Pro without backing up?

    Hello,
I am doing initial shopping for the new Mac Pro but have come to the frustrating realization that I cannot move my HDDs to the new computer for free. Sure, I can migrate my OS drive to the new one, but my other three disks inside my 2007 Mac Pro are in a pickle. I want an economically viable method of getting those three drives to the new Mac without backing them up, formatting or something like that. Also, I would prefer a transfer method that will rival the speed of it being internal. I don't think USB 3.0 can do this, but Thunderbolt 2 can? Everything I've seen online has been outrageiously expensive or requires me to reformat (RAID).
    What I'm looking for:
Connect three or more HDDs of various capacities to new Mac Pro
Have the transfer speeds rival or exceed that of my current grandpa computer (Mac Pro 1,1)
Have it not be incredibly expensive (anything over $300 is ridiculous)
Have it be no more than two devices, one prefered unless they are individual enclosures that can either daisy chain and/or are inexpensive.
    Safe for my drives.

    >  a 3 TB, a 1.5 TB and a 500 GB.
Most 3TB drives are going to be "green"
The 1.5TB may or may not
The 500GB is likely old, due for retirement if not worse.
A pair of two drives of 2TB likely would be enough for now and plenty of dual drive USB3 cases.
For a single drive and Thunderbolt docking adapter for using one drive at a time:

    Under $300 case

Or this one is fine and USB3

  • HELP: missing HDD Space on my Mac Mini... where'd they go?

I have a mac mini 1.42ghz, 512 RAM and 80GB HDD (so that's 74.5GB of useful space). recent;y, my mac's been saying that it has only 1.72gig left of free space BUT when i got the info on all the main folders, here's what i got:
    applications: 5.99GB
    Library: 5.57GB
    System: 1.49GB
    USers: 42.93
totalling that, it's only 55.98 GB, plus my 1.72GB of free space, 57.7... my question is, where did my 16 or so GBs of space get to and why is it unaccounted for?!?! how did this happen? i also queried my macintosh HD, and true enough, it says 72.69 used, 1.72 free space on disc, but that doesn't equal all of its parts...
i've emptied my recycle bin, run OnyX already, and still the problem remains... any help please? thanks~!

hi bgreg, i did what you suggested and got omnidisksweeper, and it came up with the same results as i did:
    Macintosh HD - 57.1GB
it didn't come up with anything more useful, other than telling me that my HD has 57.1GB worth of files. it didn't tell me where the remaining 14+GB went to. i checked my hardware stats as well, and it says capacity: 74.53 (so 74.53 - 57.1 = 14GB, but my finder keeps saying i only have 1.8GB free space)...
if you have anymore suggestions, i'd be glad to try them; otherwise, i may have to reformat my HDD, which is something i don't want to do as much as possible, since i don't have most of my installer discs with me at present, plus i'd need to go through the whole process of updating everything again.
i have this paranoid notion that my computer might have developed bad sectors (but 17GB worth, and considering this is still a relatively new comp?) that's why it's not showing up. i hope not though.
    thanks for the help everyone!
