Config RADIUS on WLC 5508 - Problems comunication with NPS Server

Hi,
I'm facing some problems when configuring RADIUS auth with a NPS Windows Server.
My WLAN interface is in a different vlan than the management interface, is that a problem?
I want this wlan to be on a different vlan from the management. When i use wlan interface in the same vlan the RADIUS works without problems. But in different vlans is not working.
The NPS server as 2 NICs, 1 for the wireless vlan, and another for the management vlan.
the logs from the WLC shows this, but i have difficulties interpreting all this data:

yes, I thought of that. But if i use a simple password authentication on the wireless, i can reach the server with the same subnet interface. But i don't want to allow this subnet to acess the management subnet of the wireless controller.
One question i have is: The WLC uses whitch subnet on radius? Uses the subnet of the wireless interface or uses always the management interface?
Could you help me understand how the radius auth works with this wireless controller? Did you see anything strange in the logs that I posted above? It seems to run ok until:
dot1x - moving mobile 3c:c2:43:94:3e:bc into Authenticating state

I also note this: "Applying Local Bridging Interface Policy for station "
What does this means?

We have other NPS Servers with corresponding policy settings which are working so I am having trouble to understand why this errors occurs.
Initally the problem seemed to be related to the Cert on the NPS server cause it used the cert generated from the Somputer template. Now it uses the template for Domain controller just as the other NPS servers so this should not be the issue(Not sure if
    this matters?)
Please guide me on how to take this further
    Thank you :)

    Hi,
    NPS Event ID: 6274.
This condition occurs when the NPS discards accounting requests because the structure of the accounting request message that was sent by a RADIUS client does not comply with the RADIUS protocol. You should reconfigure, upgrade, or replace the RADIUS client.

    Appreciate all feedback. Thank you.

    Hi Ruben,
    a) After successful dot1x authentication, session keys are derived from pairwise master key.
    b) When the AP transmits a key to a station by default, it expects a response back within a set timeframe.
    c) If the station does not respond, the AP increments the counter and retransmits the key.
    d) If the AP receives a response to first message just after the retransmission of the key, a mismatch occurs in the counter.
This in most of the cases will be a client driver problem.
    Solution :
    1) try to increase the EAPOL-Key Timeout ( config advanced eap ).
    2) Upgrade the client driver.

  • WLC 5508 802.1x with AES

    Hi,
We have a staff WLAN on Cisco WLC 5508. We use 802.1x with TKIP with authentication from RADIUS server. We deployed new 802.11n APs but on staff WLAN we cannot enable 802.11n because of the TKIP encryption. Can we just simply change the encryption without changing any other configuration to support 802.11n data rates?

On your WLAN you can enable AES and TKIP. Just know that some clients mau have issue when they see both TKIP and AES. Ive had pretty good success with this in the past. Dont forget, you also need to enable WMM allowed to get N rates.
But you will need to configure AES on the client as well to support N rates.

  • WLC 5508 not communicating with ACS 4.2

    Hi,
Strange one here, I have setup a WLAN with PEAP user authentication through ACS to the Windows database. My clients cannot connect to the WLAN.
From the logs, I can see no activity on the Radius server stats (as seen from the controller) and no failed login attempts on the ACS itself. The ACS/Radius is setup correctly on the controller and the controller can ping the ACS, but they just don't seem to be talking???
I have used this setup before, but the only difference is that the controller is a 5508 (done this with 4400's in the past) and the ACS is running on VMWare (Never done this before).
If I change the security to WPA2 PSK it works fine.
I want to use PEAP for user authentication. NOT Machine auth. I have a certificate installed on the ACS and it is in the trust list of the client PC.
    Any help appreciated!
    Dan

  • Just resolved Back to my Mac issue called Apple Suppport in the UK and they were really helpful if the error DNS server not responding the problem is with Apple server not your server ( I had tried to reboot by router, restart my laptop etc.

I was having problem with my Back to my Mac as message was saying DNS Server not responding . I tried to turn my WIFI off, then my router  to no avail. Decided to call Apple Support line in the UK . I got a call back immediatly and great support.  The advisor took over my screen and we check that my laptop was synchronising   with I phots and it was.  The adviser also told that when the message DNS server is not responding next to Back to my Mac is has to do with Apple Server not mine , router etc... Hope this save others some time! Rather than spending time truining on and off changing IP address etc...

Thanks for your thorough post. I too need to use BTMM on almost a daily basis for my job, and it has fallen short countlness times. I too have taken great pains to check all of the typical trouble shooting steps within iCloud and in the Apple keychain on each Mac etc, but after the latest rounds of system updates from Apple a few weeks ago to Mountain Lion, BTMM on one of my Macs is completely broken and unusable. I would concur that if you need remote access for "real" mission critical use, just bite the bullet and pay for a service like LogMeIn. You won't regret it and you will get real software support.

After loading Lion, I have been getting an error message "There was a problem connecting to the server.  URLs with the type "file:" are not supported."  There does not seem to be any actual problem with internet connectivity, but it is persistent and annoying.  Any idea of its cause and treatment?

    Any sugestions ?

Looking at the error messages, they don't point to a singlular fault with the WLC, more like a client issue.  Below I'll explain the messages you are seeing.
    dot1xMsgTask: Jan 18 11:23:34.254: %DOT1X-3-MAX_EAP_RETRANS: 1x_ptsm.c:426 Max EAP retransmissions
    exceeded for client 00:24:d7:22:0e:e0
This means, the WLC has sent an EAP request to the client, and has not received a response.  This could be because either the cleint didn't hear the request, or the AP didn't hear the response.  It could also be the client ignored the request.  You may want to take a look at the following document and see if you want to change the EAP timer values
    .   https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-12110
    *apfMsConnTask_3: Jan 18 11:21:13.118: %APF-3-CHECK_SUPP_RATES_FAILED: apf_utils.c:273 Could not che
ck supported rates. Missing Supported Rate. Length :0. Mobile MAC: b8:ff:61:8f:df:25.
The WLC was reading a message from the client, and the client did not tell the WLC what rates it could support.  This could happen because the packet from the client wasn't heard fully.  As well, some clients will see the WLC that they are associated to, and not the individual AP.  In this case, it is possible that the client didnt' send the supported rates, as it didn't see a change in BSSID>
    *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_0: Jan 18 11:15:31.521: %DOT1X-3-INVALID_WPA_KEY_MSG_STATE: 1x_eapkey.c:708 Receiv

    :50:21:80
The client tried to send a key, when the PEM state on the WLC was START.  More than likely the client thought it could roam, but the WLC thought differently

WLC is sending EAP Identity request to the client, and it is not repsonding.
Decrypt error occurred for clienten 00:24:d7:69:fb:7c using WPA2 key on 802.11a interface of AP e8:04:62:60:a0:10
Couldn't decrypt the packet.  Could be a bad key, or could be we didnt' get the full packet, thus making the decrypt fail.
For the most part, these are commonly seen issues.  Could be the result of RF issues, so you may want to take a look and make sure the coverage at the site is clean.   Some of these can also be caused by WZC, which likes to ignore EAP messages, and has a tendancy to use the login credentials that get cached.  Which if these are not domain credentials can cause issues as well.
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • WLC 5508 series issues with APs

    Hi  All,
we recently upgrade our WLC to a new hardware 5508 running 7.6.120.0 and we seem to notice
now and then users ring up and complain that they can not connect to the APs most are AIR-CAP3502I-N-K9 or AIR-LAP1242AG-N-K9
We can see the APs in the controller and can not see anything wrong.
We reboot the APs and it fix the problems.
Just wondering if anybody experience the same issues with this IOS & hardware ???
    Any feedback is much appreciated
    Thanks
    qle

Cisco has issued a "deferred notice" for 7.6.120.X.  Cisco openly recommends everyone to use the newer code, 7.6.130.X.
If you "read between the lines", Cisco is saying everyone needs to AVOID 7.6.120.X.

  • In WLC 5508 HA Issue with Russia IOS Image

    Hi,
I have two 5508 WLC IOS code 7.6.120.0 in the both wlc I am having the same code. But in the one wlc i am having Russia image as below mention...

AIR-CT5500-K9-7-6-120-0.aes. In this case can I configure HA one like as primary & 2nd wlc as standby mode use the same license in the both wlc. I bye it two separately box before 2 years.
IOS code will be the same but image is change. It's possible for HA. When I buy it that time both wlc ios code is 7.0.X.X & 7.5.X.X.
If possible then how can do for the same. or it's not possible. I am try to convert as normal ios code but it's not accepted. Only upgrade with Russia ios code.

  • RADIUS Authentication for PI 2.1 with Windows Server 2008 (Windows NPS)

    Hello Community,
can someone please provide a step-by-step guide (or at least the VSA part) for RADIUS configuration on a Windows 2008 R2 server for Prime Infrastructure 2.1 please?
We already tried several setups with guides for PI 1.4 without success. The NPS itself authenticates and grants access, but on PI the login always fails.
    Thank you in advance,
    Benjamin

I'm having the same issue and have a few questions/comments.
I can get root/admin access working via NPS/radius by justing telling NPS to send PI the  NCS:role0=Root (or Admin) and NCS:virtual-domain0=ROOT-DOMAIN radius attributes.
But I also have some users who I just want to give read only access.  I cannot seem to get this to work.  At first I configured NPS to send PI the NCS:role0=Monitor Lite and NCS:virtual-domain0=ROOT_DOMAIN attributes.  A user could login, but would immediate get a "You do not have access to the page Monitoring Dashboards" error.  Not to mention almost nothing shows in the menu.  So I tried adding all of the individual tasks related to the "Monitor Lite" role into the radius policy:
    NCS:role0=Monitor Lite
    NCS:task0=Services Menu Access
    NCS:task1=Alarm Stat Panel Access
    NCS:task2=Automated Feedback
    NCS:task3=Monitor Menu Access
    NCS:task4=Theme Changer Access
    NCS:task5=Maps Read Only
    NCS:task6=Help Menu Access
    NCS:task7=License Check
    NCS:task8=Rogue Location
    NCS:task9=Reports Menu Access
    NCS:task10=Monitor Tags
    NCS:task11=Alarm Browser Access
    NCS:task12=Configure Menu Access
    NCS:task13=Search Access
    NCS:task14=Tools Menu Access
    NCS:task15=Administration Menu Access
    NCS:task16=Monitor Clients
    NCS:task17=Home Menu Access
    NCS:task18=Client Location
    NCS:task19=OnlineHelp
    NCS:task20=TAC Case Management Tool
but I'm not having any luck.  The NPS radius logs always show success, but the read-only users always get the same error and almost nothing visible in the menus.
Has anyone successfully configured radius with something other than Admin or Root privileges?
    Thanks!

  • Problem connecting with mail server

About 1 week ago, MS Entourage stopped receiving email and sending emails. In fact I can't even delete old email because I keep getting a message that Entourage can't contact the Mac mail servers. I have not changed any mail settings or my password. I swithed over to Mac Mail and was able to receive and send messages for about a day and now this program just freezes up when I attempt to use it.  Since this problem cropped up I have been able to go to icloud to retrieve and send email. I would like to use the email programs on my MacBook. Is Apple having a problem with their mail servers or this an icloud sync problem with my desktop email programs?

    Dear alfredo,
I have exactly the same problem as you, have found any solution for it
    Thanks for letting me know

  • Problems synching with Nike + Server

After I end a workout, am I able to connect to the Nike server to transmit my workout data less than half of the time. The other times, I get an error message that the Nike server was unable to accept my data. This is totally glitchy! My iTunes is the most current available, and my iPod Nano is absolutely up to date.
I have tried creating a new Nike account and the same problems persist. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how do I fix it? I'm frustrated!!!

Sounds like a problem with their website. You should contact them aboout it.
