Configuration Management in Forms 6i

Hi,
Is there any way we can use Oracle SCM (configuration mangement tool available in forms9i) with oracle forms 6i?? Or can anyone suggest any other similar tool for configuration management in Forms 6i? or is there any way wher tools like subversion be used for managing .FMB files which are inherently binary and lend these tools devoid of features like comparision etc?
We have an oracle Forms 6i application which uses Oracle 8i server on backend. Currently there is no configuration management tool in use and because a huge development work ahead we are looking for options available. Oracle forms .FMB files being binary in nature cannot be efficiently handled be CM tools like subversion, CVS etc.
Oracle SCM available with oracle form 9i is something we are looking for but cannot see we would be upgrading our app from 6i to 9i.
cheers
Amit

Hi Amit,
If you use a tool like Subversion (or any other tool which is based on CVS), you will run into problems because the repository will attempt to merge the files. This, as you noted, does not work very well for Oracle Forms binaries.
If you would like to stick with Subversion (or another concurrent access model), you can compile your Oracle Forms binaries as .FMT files (ascii text files) for use in the repository. This way Subversion can actually perform the merge on the files, although I cannot say how well the merged file compile.
If you really want to store FMBs, you could either experiment with Subversion by locking each file or use a different source control program that does not support concurrent access (like rcs or pvcs). Then, you can perform any comparisons/diffs outside the source control repository.
For comparison/diffs, there is an external tool called FormsMate developed by Jockvale Consulting, Ltd. which will allow you to compare two Oracle Forms binaries, producing a report of all the changes. This is very helpful for comparing say version 1.0 of an FMB to version 1.1 of the same file.
Hope this provides some insight.

  • Software Configuration Manager Vs Forms&Reports 6i

I develope using Forms&Reports 6i, can I manage my source files (fmb, rdf, pll, text file, ...) with Software Configuration Manager?
Which is the best way to do this?

    Fabio,
Most certainly. Not only can you manage the source code but you can also merge .fmb files and run dependency analysis against forms and reports to identify the impact of changes to the schema or application.
There are plenty of examples at http://otn.oracle.com/products/repository/demos.html

You need to have an infrastructure as a pre-requisite for a portal type OAS installation.
Please see this [link and the whole guide - click Content on the top-right|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/win.1012/install.1012/install/mt.htm#sthref508] for details and then decide what have you installed that you are referring to as OAS 10g.

  • Software Configuration Management for ABAP Development ?

    Hi,
we are a software company selling a Data Capture Solution.
For this, we are currently in the process to develop an interface for transferring the extracted data into a customer's SAP R/3 system.
Since we want to develop this interface following certain software engineering principles, we are looking for a way to solve certain simple common Software Configuration Management issues, such as:
    - Object Versioning (Similar to file versioning in classic software development): That means being able to:
-- Keep track WHO changed WHAT WHEN and WHY?
-- Revert to a former version of an object (e.g. when the fix of a former defect must be revoked for some reason)
-- Keep track which changes have been made for a certain Change Request (NOT meaning SAP Change   Requests, but Change Request for our interface development)
    - Label a certain version state as 'released' or 'tested' or whatever
    - Perform a kind of 'Branching' (Classical Software Configuration Management task), e.g. when we   release a version of our interface and start the development of a new version, we must open a   'Maintenance Branch' of our released version parallel to the ongoing development of the future release.
When I say 'Objects', I mean everything being concerned when developing something within R/3; that can be ABAP programs, forms, tables (structure and content(!)), etc.
We are using an SAP System version ECC 5.0 for development; as for now, we have come to the conclusion to use the versioning that comes with the Transforms, although they do not really cover the above requirements as we would like to.
Is there anybody out there who had the same idea and solved it somehow?
My impression is that in the SAP world, classical Software Configuration Management is not a part of the way of thinking; and that development for SAP R/3 has little in common with classical software development.
But maybe there is an add-on or some hidden features of NetWeaver or anything that can solve these issues.
Hope is the last to die...
Thank you very much for any feedback,
    Regards,
    Jörg

Thank you very much for your answers!
    @Pushkar:
    No this is not exactly what I meant;
What we want to do is a kind of classical configuration management or at least version control of
development objects like ABAP programs, table definitions, table data etc. that are contained within our SAP development system.
It's not about version management of external documents imported into SAP.
I know that there is a kind of version control via Transports, but this does not cover all classical version control mechanisms; what we are missing there is
    - the possibility of reverting to an older version of an 'object'
    - Branching / Merging mechanisms
    - the possibility to choose which changes I want to release with which transform and which objects
    - view differences between arbitrary versions of an object
I was hoping there is maybe a kind of 'add-on' or maybe even a built-in tool that provides classical version control mechanisms or something similar.
    Thank you for further help,
    Regards,
    Jörg

    Hi,
This issue is always caused that you had missed FBA configuration in web config of your web application.
You can configure the FBA authentication then check whether it works.

  • Third party Certificate not showing up in SQL configuration manager drop down box

    Hi,
I have an SQL instance that needs to use a third party SSL certificate for all communications to that SQL instance. I have installed my third party certificate via MMC and it is showing under the Personal Folder.
However, when i go into the SQL configuration manager and right click the instance name > Properties > Certificates, it is not showing in the drop down box.
I am currently using MS SQL Server 2008 R2, which is installed on Windows Server 2012.

    Hi,
If the certificate cannot be used for SQL Server and hence will not be visible in SQL Configuration manager. Check the validity of the installed certificate. It may not has the correct DNS name.
I suggest you request a new third party certificate from the vendor with the correct DNS name. Install it on SQL Server environment, then you should see certificate form the configuration manager dropdown box.
    Thanks.

  • Unable to start ICM Configuration Manager in ICM 8.5

    Hi,
We are in the midst of setting the unified contact center 8.5.2 on windows server 2008 R2.
We are using CUCM 8.5. As for the icm 8.5.2, the servers are as follows:
    1. Router A & logger A & CMPG A & VRU PG A on 1 mcs 7845
    2. Router B & logger B & CMPG B & VRU PG B on 1 mcs 7845
    3. Administration/ Data server with HDS on 1 mcs 7845
All servers are running ms SQL server 2005 with sp2. When the instance and all components
were created, I could start all services on these 3 servers. But when I tried to open the
Configuration Manager, it showed an error "(-9959) The AWDB needs to be reloaded before
any operations may be attempted. Please run Initialize Local Database."
Then I tried to start the process in the Initialize Local Database windows, it threw out
another error saying "the pipe has ended" following by another message "the process is
    completed".
Then I tried o start the configuration manager or the script editor again, the same
problem still persists. I tried to recreate the Administration server & data server component again, but it
doesn't help. I also tried to delete the AWDB but it said the database in current in use.
Did I miss out any important steps here? Appreciate your help to rectify this issue ASAP.
I also noticed version 8.x and 7.5 is so much different. How do I check the each icm
process like the process window in version 7.5?
    Thanks & regards,
    Eric

Geoff is correct...and I would agree with David as well.
I will try to be more specific and answer both questions:
On Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 or higher is the requirement.
On Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 or higher is the requirement.
The validation should be enforced in ICM Installer 8.0(1a).
Specifically, if SQL Server 2005 is detected on a machine and if the service pack is not minimally correct, when ICMCCInstaller version 8.0(1a) is run, the following severe error will be displayed to the user as well as being logged in the ICMInstall.log:
"[Error] Microsoft SQL Server 2005 installation does not have a high enough service pack.  Cisco Unified ICM/Contact Center Enterprise & Hosted requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack or greater."
where is 3 when running on Windows Server 2003 and 4 when running on Windows Server 2008 R2.
didn't you see this message when installing it?
The 8.0(1a) full installer contains the same file set as the 8.0(1) FCS version. The difference is in the InstallShield installer, which allows customers to install the product on Windows 2003 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (whereas the FCS version did not allow W2k8). Release 8.0(1a) completely replaces 8.0(1). End user documentation still just refers to 8.0(1) (i.e. you will not see reference to 8.0(1a)).
Note: 8.0(1a) does not have the complete working solution for Windows Server 2008 R2. You must apply the 8.5(2) or higher maintenance release in addition to 8.0(1a) to have a working solution. The MR contains bug fixes specific to Windows Server 2008 R2.
Now, how to see processes...well...say goodbye to that one as it is used to be
    No UCCE Process Windows
In Windows Server 2008 R2, session 0, where Windows services run, has no desktop. No user can login to session 0 as previously known as console. And since there is no desktop, no visible object of any type can be displayed. Among such objects are the UCCE process windows. Customers and TAC have long relied on the process windows to diagnose the system and provide a feel good indicator that the system is running. The title bars of some windows are critical for determining things like which side is active. The tracing provided in some windows sometimes made it easier to diagnose or monitor certain conditions, especially in reproduction during a maintenance window. The goal was to make this same information available in another way.
Diagnostic Framework Portico: Process Status Info (title bar)
The status of the UCCE processes is used to be shown in the title bar of the corresponding process window.  Since all UCCE process windows no longer show up in the taskbar, users are not able to use the process windows to check the status of the UCCE processes anymore.  As a result, process status information was added to the Diagnostic Framework Portico.
The Diagnostic Framework Portico is a web-based GUI that list the current running UCCE processes.
You can also access the Diagnostic Framework Portico by choosing All Programs > Cisco Unified CCE Tools > Diagnostic Framework Portico.
Note that the process status information is now displayed.  Additionally status changes and low uptime is highlighted. Uptime will be red if uptime is less than 10 minutes and yellow less than 30 minutes. These will also be underlined. This will help to identify cycling services. Status changes will be highlighted and made bold when a process's status changes. This highlighting will last for 10 minutes or until the status returns to its original state. Also as compared to the original page, the vertical space has been used more efficiently to fit more processes on a single page without scrolling. There is also a refresh checkbox which when checked will refresh the page every 5 seconds. It is checked by default.
    EMSMon: Process EMS Messages
In Release 8.5(2), for Windows 2008, process windows for ICM processes are no longer available. The title bar status information is available in the Diagnostic Portico; however, real time data does not appear there. To address this, Cisco recommends that partners and TAC use EMSMON as a replacement.
EMSMON has been with UCCE/ICM since the earliest versions of ICM. EMSMON displays logged messages from a process as they are logged. It displays the same content as the former process windows. The two exceptions are the title bar and stdout and stderr output. Events are logged for all processes and appear in EMSMON. However, rare error condition messages (shelled processes, and so on) that go to stdout do not appear in an EMSMON window.
You can start EMSMON while the process is up or down. If the process is down, EMSMON displays messages from the process when the process starts. EMSMON does not end when the process ends. To end EMSMON, press CTRL+C or close the window.
Note: To prevent ICM processes from queueing too many EMSMON messages and exceeding the system memory, ICM processes may drop queued EMSMON messages. If this happens, EMSMON clients display a message indicating one of the clients fell behind and there is a gap. This message is also logged in the processes event log. This can happen if a particular EMSMON client is too slow or paused by quick edit or ctrl/s for example.
    How to run EMSMON
EMSMON has the same parameters as procmon:
    *Instance/Customer Node process,[process] [System]
The System parameter is optional. You can use it to run EMSMON from a machine remote from where the process is running.
For example, if the Instance/Customer Node is ?ucce and you want to monitor the JTAPI gateway on PG1A, type the following:
    EMSMON ucce PG1A jgw1
If you are remote and the machine name is UCCEPG1A, type:
    EMSMON ucce PG1A jgw1 UCCEPG1A
Note: A trust relationship must exist between the two machines. (Use the “NET USE” command or something similar).
The following list includes some EMSMON facts:
EMSMON (like DUMPLOG) can monitor multiple processes. The use of EMSMON to monitor multiple processes is not discussed here.
A single EMSMON can monitor multiple processes and merge their output (for example, (jgw1 and pim1).
Multiple EMSMONs can watch a single process. For example, you can have a local (on box) EMSMON and a remote EMSMON. Cisco recommends that you use one EMSMON only for each process.
To reserve system resources for ICM processes, it is recommended that you run the EMSMON client on a remote machine that does not host ICM processes. For example, running EMSMON client on side A of a PG and connecting it to a process on side B of a PG is not recommended.
To run EMSMON on a remote machine, copy emsmon.exe, emsmon.pdb, and icrmessages.dll from c:\icm\bin and place them on a remote machine.
You can cut and paste just as in the command windows but it is safer in EMSMON.
You can start EMSMON at anytime, even when the process is not running. (You can have a batch file on a machine to start sessions.)
For history (events prior to EMSMON starting), use DUMPLOG.
To change the number of lines each EMSMON window retains, modify the command window parameters.
With EMSMON, you can have one local connection and five remote connections per process. When the number of connections is exceeded, the oldest session is disconnected with the following message ?You are being disconnected because another user has connected to this named pipe.
If your system is running a heavy call load, your EMSMON connections may disconnect and the following message appears: ? You are being disconnected because the system is running a heavy call load; this connection may impact the performance of the system. It is recommended that you do not reconnect your EMSMON sessions until your system returns to a normal call load

    Goran

  • Add Field - Configuration Manager

    Hi all,
I add a field to the checkin menu with Configuration Manager.
    My name field is Local.
Then I tried to override this field but instead of it the Content Server add a new field to the checkin menu with the same name:
    <@dynamichtml std_document_file_fields@>
    <$include std_namevalue_separator$>
    <$fieldName = "xLocal", fieldCaption = lc("Local"), valueStyle = "strongHighlight",
    isRequired = "1", requiredMsg = getRequiredMsg(fieldName, lc("wwSpecifyComments"))$>
    <$fieldDefault = "Insert a local"$>
    <$include std_display_field$>
    <$include super.std_document_file_fields$>
    <@end@>
How can I override this field instead of create a new one with the same name?

Ok, so you DO see the field you created, but you want to change where it appears in the check in page. Have you looked at playing with the order column in configuration manager (this may be what you meant in your former post). This would allow you to get your field up towards the top, but only as close as the primay file field.
Past that, you CAN do some things to get it EXACTLY where you want but your next step would be to start looking into profiles pretty heavy. There is a lot of documentation out there on profiles.
    In the screenshots here:
    http://www.corecontentonly.com/Blog/RemoveProfileHorizontalRulesBuild1
You can see that I have placed a field named Sub Type up under regular Type. This takes some messing around, but I did it with profiles. The exact steps are a little longer than I can put down just now. :(
Maybe this will be explained more in the coming post at CMSTechie:

This looks like a lack of memory problem. I'll need a bit more info:
    1. How much memory is on the machine?
    2. What config are you installing?

  • How best to manage global forms

Looking for the best way to manage "Global forms". Where the same form (Output) may have different data displayed based on the country it is printed from.
Let's just use BA00, Order Confirmation as an example.
In the U.S. this output is on 8.5 X 11 inch letter paper, and has some specific texts which should be displayed in certain locations.
For Britain, we'd like to use the same form, but this will print on A4 paper, and have their own specific texts (in specific form locations)
Same difference for China, Greenland, Mexico, etc. Assume each "Country" is a Sales Organization in SAP.
How best to manage the output form configuration and controls?
If I use a condition record for BA00 that includes Sales Organization, is it left up to the SMARTFORM programmer to query the sales org. and determine what and where to output the appropriate texts for each country?
Is there a way to have a different form for each Sales Org, and how would this fom be "selected"?
Anyone got any other ways to more efficiently handle this situation ?
    Thanks in advance

Crikey ! Thanks for the quick response. That is where I was going, but wanted to get some other viewpoints
    Thanks

  • Is anyone using the Oracle Software Configuration Manager (SCM) feature?

I would like to provide version control over my forms development process (check in, check out, etc). I see that there is a built in Oracle Software Configuration Management tool. Has anyone used it?
    Any pros?
    Any cons?

Hi Daniel, it looks like Bruce has succinctly and accurately described configuration of the ImportManager step above (8/13).
One thing I could add is that the Key Field for Manager ID field should be set to the LDAP attribute that contains the 'pointer' to a given person's manager.
For example, given John Smith's sample LDAP record with the following attributes and values:
    givenName = John
    sn = Smith
    uid = jsmith01
    mgrUid = mmartin51

  • SolMan and CMMI Configuration Management

    Hi
We are looking into implementing CMMI level 3 in our organisation.
One of the main points is to use SolMan for Configuration Management which seems obvious.
Does any of you "out there" have any experiences and answers/ideas to the following topics:
    - which CI's have you identified?
    - how are versions of the CI's managed?
    - how are you managing baselines and is there any demand for a baseline "rollback" in CMMI?
And how are you handling Requirements Management and Requirements Development in SAP Solution Manager? Especially the bidirectional traceability
Have you found any litterature on the subject?
Thanks in advance - all help is welcome
    Peter

I don't have a good answer to your question, but chose to reply because I'm also in search of Architectural and Operational standards and practices for WLS. Everything I see in terms of Oracle and 3rd party documentation, including the product itself, seems geared toward the developers and optimized for for their needs and desires. Precious little advice in terms of best practices for deploying and hosting production services on this platform. I'm just a lowly SA and need things explained like I'm retarded.
Obviously common sense will have to end up addressing most of this, but why must we re-invent the wheel?
FWIW in regards to your question, we don't rebuild our environments from scratch at every deployment. We don't even delete configurations and components at deployment. (Although I've heard that's a recommended practice, I never get a straight answer for "why?" From this I'm left to conclude that; what, WLS is unreliable, unstable? Until I hear a good reason why I should be deleting everything all the time I'll stick with my instincts.) As for configuration management, we're stuck in the stone age I'm afraid; although high on my list is to start reverse-engineering our prod config into scripted form so we can do just what you're explaining.
At deployment, for every object we check for it, add it if it's missing, and re-set the configs. For all application deployments we undeploy/redeploy. All in WLST scripts that live in our version repo, natch. We could be doing it totally wrong, but it works so there's little impetus to change it. We're also handling an OSB deployment in a similar fashion, but that's done with a heavily modified-for-portability import.py script w/ ant.
