Configuration on rac and http cluster

We installed Rac database 10g(10.2.03) and 2 http server OAS 10.1.3.
We are planning to have 2000 concurrent users.
What is your advice for parameter changes: database and http for the best performance?
Thanks MB.

  • Tnsnames configuration for RAC and dataguard

    Hi everyone,
I have an environment with RAC and dataguard (production is RAC, standby is single instance) and I was wondering what is the best way to configure the clients (since I have quite a few and I don't want to change their tnsnames if I need to failover to the standby database).
Now, I need to have both RAC nodes of course, the question is what I should do with the standby...
    The problems are:
    1. If I add the standby as another address, 1/3 of the connections will get to it and I don't think it's a good idea
    2. I can disable the load_balance, but then all connections will go to the first node's listener
    3. After a failover, if the RAC nodes are down, it will take a long time to connect (the servers will not respond and the client will wait for timeout if it tries to connect to the RAC nodes first, only after the timeout it will try the standby and succeed)
Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Liron

    Hi Robert,
I agree that the standby should be up, but you have to admit that if it is down it should not delay connections to the primary...
About the DNS, it's not that I don't trust the SA, but this is an environment for a customer so it should be as independent as it can be. So the failover process will be easy and fast. I don't know if I can get DNS permissions, but that's a good idea...
A question that can be derived from this:
assuming that I use observer to have an automatic failover, how should I configure my TNS? If the standby will become the primary automatically, I have to configure the clients to connect to the activated standby automatically. With no DNS changes or anything manual.
I guess in this case, my best option will be with LOAD_BALANCE=off, some of the clients will have RAC-NODE1 as first address and some will have RAC-NODE2, the standby will be the last address and we'll suffer the timeout if the primary will be down when connecting to the activated standby.
If anyone has other ideas, it would be great.
    Thanks,
    Liron

  • Cloning 11i non split to split configuration with RAC and ASM

    Hello Hussein,
I just want to ask some ideas on what is the best way to clone our UAT/DEV environment to our PROD environment.
Right now no RAC and ASM setup for the source system still 9.2.0.5 but the plan is to convert to ASM + 10g RAC.
Can you please let me know on what is the best way to setup PROD out of our UAT environment?
    Here's my options:
    1. Install a fresh prod system
    2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
    (Source)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
    (Target)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bit
    3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
copy source APPL directories to target
Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
    Install clusterware 11gR2
    Convert database to RAC
Can you please let me know on what is the best approach to do this? For fresh install it will take some time to apply the current patch level and applying other patches.
For Option 2, seems a bit complicated to do 32bit - 64 bit cloning on RAC. Appreciated if you can provide doc id for this.
For Option 3, not sure how smooth the conversion from 32bit to 64bit.
    Appreciate your insights on this.
    Regards,
    jeffrey

    Hi Jeffrey,
Since you are on 9.2.0.5, I assume you are running Oracle Apps 11i and not R12.
    1. Install a fresh prod systemThis option requires applying all patches (as you mentioned above) plus you will have to convert to ASM/RAC on the source/target instance. I would not recommend this approach since would require extra work/time.
    2. Convert source system to ASM + RAC before cloning to target - setup as below:
    (Source)
    APPS server - 32bit
    DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 32bit
    (Target)
    APPS server - 32bit
DB server (2 node RAC + ASM) - 64bitWhat are the source and target database version?
As per (Certified RAC Scenarios for E-Business Suite Cloning [ID 783188.1]) this is supported by Rapid Clone. So, in this case you need to convert the source instance to RAC and migrate to ASM then use Rapid Clone to clone the application/database.
Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone [ID 230672.1] -- 6. Cloning a RAC System
You will have to convert the target database then from 32-bit to 64-bit.
    3. Clone existing target system (non RAC and non ASM)
copy source APPL directories to target
Install 64 bit Oracle 10g to the target system
clone/convert database source (9i 32bit) to database targer (10g 64 bit) using RMAN.
    Install clusterware 11gR2
Convert database to RAC Here you will have to convert to RAC/ASM on both the source/target instances -- You are eliminating the patches part in Option 1, but again extra work need to be done to convert the database from 32-bit to 64-bit on the target instance + convert to RAC and migrate to ASM (on both instances).
Based on the above, I would recommend and suggest you go with Option 2.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Oracle RAC + Clusterware and another Cluster with Clusterware for SAP

    Hi,
I have some questions about implementation of Oracle RAC and Clusterware with SAP
For exemple, an architecture with 4 servers ( 2 real and 2 vritual ).
I would like to know if i can do this
2 servers for the first cluster.
First cluster is with Clusterware and Oracle RAC
This is for all the SAP Oracle databases environment
I think there is no problem here.
Now, with 2 others servers il would like to make another cluster (with also clusterware ) for SAP Central services (SCS) and enque replication server (ERS)
Because all architecture is for only one SAP environment with separate services.
    1 for Database (cluster 1)
1 for Central services ( cluster 2, virtual machine )
1 for Dialogue Instance (no cluster)
To be clear, the second cluster is to make HA of central services SAP (SCS and ERS )
    My question 2 are :
Is it a good job to do this ? or there is anything wrong ?
Do i have to install antoher clusterware for this 2 servers or i have to make anything with the existing clusterware + oracle RAC ??
Thank you very much for you help

    Hi Givre,
have you checked: Providing High Availability for SAP Resources (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/pdf/sap-availability-on-rac-twp.pdf) available on otn.oracle.com/clusterware? Not being an SAP expert myself, I still think, this paper describes the configuration - at least partially - that you are trying to set up.
    Just an idea. Thanks,

  • Configure the ADMIN and CLUSTER service connections to be SSL

Can you configure the ADMIN and CLUSTER service connections to be SSL
    rather than tcp?
I was wondering about the present or future ability to secure other
connection services with SSL. Can you now or are there future plans
to configure the ADMIN and CLUSTER service connections to be SSL
rather than tcp? I suppose I should add the PORTMAPPER to that list.
My primary interest is for an SSLCLUSTER service in the case where
two brokers are connected over a non-trusted network. It may
not be too difficult to secure all the services the same way, but
perhaps that is on the TODO list.
A related question is if there are plans to add SSL with client
authentication as a stronger authentication mechanism than 'simple'
username and password. I believe you could get the username from
the client certificate's DN and continue to use the same LDAP user
repository for access control. I think this is similar to the way
that BEA's Weblogic server does it.
Finally should it be possible to deploy the HTTP tunnel servlet to
a webserver (such as iPlanet Web Server) configured to do SSL with
client authentication as a work-around to get stronger authentication
with the current release of the product? Or am I perhaps missing some
obvious and important detail? :) I guess I would like to know it's been
done already or is at least possible before I try and do it myself.

    3 scenarios involving SSL are:
1: JMS client <------- SSL -------> iMQ broker
2: iMQ admin <------- SSL -------> iMQ broker
3: iMQ broker <------- SSL -------> iMQ broker (i.e clusters)
    (1) is currently supported in iMQ 2.0
    (2) and (3) is not supported in iMQ 2.0. No concrete plans yet to support
it in the near future but we'll definitely consider doing it if we
hear a lot of demand for it.
]A related question is if there are plans to add SSL with client

This is on our todo list, but due to other more pressing issues we
have not been able to address it. We will continue to keep it
on our potential list of new features.
Sorry if I sound pretty wishy-washy in my responses above, but the fact
is that the things you mentioned above had to take a backseat
to other more critical features. That and the usual time/resource
constraints caused them not to be implemented.
]Finally should it be possible to deploy the HTTP tunnel servlet to

Yes, this should be possible (although I don't believe we've tried it here).
The client authentication here is really only between the JMS client and the
web server (not between the tunnel servlet and the iMQ broker) and should
be similar in setup to any other java application talking to iPlanet Web
    Server.

  • Oracle database 10g RAC and ASM configuration

    Hi all,
I want to ask to everybody something about Oracle 10g RAC and ASm configuration. We plan to migrate to Oracle 10g from 9i, and we will begin configuring oracle but we have to decide which configuration are the best.
    Our materials are bellow:
    Hardware: RP 3440 (HP)
    OS : HPUX 11i Ver 1
Storage: EVA 4000 (eva disk group)
    The problem is:
Our supplier recommand us to use HP serviguard + HP serviceguard extension for RAC+ RAc and Raw device as configuration.
But we want to use Oracekl Clusterware + RAC + ASM
My question is if anybody know what is the best configuration, we want to use ASm.
Can we use HP serviguard and ASM.
Some documentations or link explain oracle RAC and ASM configuration will be appreciate.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards.
    raitsarevo

    Hello,
there's no extra RAC software package, but the option is only offered, if one of the supported cluster layers for the respective OS has been installed before.
10.1.0.3 looks like a complete redesign, but anyway it is a patch, you have to install 10.1.0.2 first.

  • WCCP Configuration HTTP and HTTPS

Looking for anyone that might have a clue in on this, im attempting to configure a pair of routers to use WCCP to redirect HTTP and HTTPS traffic to two content keeper devices. The network im building is going to be used for a guest internet connection where defining proxies on end devices would be unusable.
I'll drop the configs in below but for now what i have are 2 cisco 3925 routers configured for HSRP. 2 content keeps running squid for the cache engine. with my current configurations, I have wccp web-cache and wccp service 70 configured (all 4 devices are available/usable in both services). this is a layer 2 setup. HTTP traffic is picked up and redirected to the content keepers without issue. https traffic does not appear to be detected by the routers. I have chosen not to use ACLS for WCCP and use the redirect in because we want to capture http(s) traffic from all hosts.
for HTTP, I see hits counters rise on the router under show ip wccp, i see hit counters for the content keepers increase, i see http traffic on the firewall from the content keepers and I get the web page on the device
For HTTPS I do not see hit counters under wccp increase, I do not see any traffic on the content keepers bridge, and i see traffic on the firewall from the hosts orginal ip address.

    Hello Josh,
    1. Yes, port-specific ACL is not supported. But it is not a big problem. Usually on WCCP server you can configure very specific bypass (Cisco WSA supports that - do not know about Sophos). For bypassed traffic WCCP server will reinject that packet in GRE and send back to ASA which will decapsulate it and send as normal packets.
It's a good design, because you can have very granural bypass policy on WCCP server.
    2. Yes, configuration is correct, although it's better to be more specific (not send all traffic to WCCP if there is no need for that).
    3. Yes, you can use deny in redirect-list to exclude traffic.
    4. WCCP keepalives are being send by WCCP server by default every 10 seconds. If ASA does not see that replies for some time it marks server as dead and uses other ones.

  • Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g

Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.

Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
    Hope this help. :)

  • Configuring WCCP for http and https

How do I configure wccp on a 6509 to redirect http and https trafic to a S650. I am using the following config and http is working fine:
    ip wccp version 2
    ip wccp web-cache redirect-list aclwccp
    interface Vlan23
    description Rede Firewall
    ip address 10.0.23.20 255.255.255.0
    ip access-group 172 out
    ip wccp web-cache redirect out
    mls rp vtp-domain coc_block1
    mls rp ip
    mls netflow sampling
    end
Should I config an other service for the https protocol?

    Cecato,
The WSA can be configured to send 80 and 443 traffic, in the WCCP settings area (5.2.0+). There are some things you will need to be aware of before doing this though:
    1. If you are on 5.2.0-x, you will not be able to inspect HTTPS traffic. Only version 5.5.0+ has the ability to decrypt HTTPS traffic. Because of this, it is not recommended to redirect port 443 on WSA version 5.2.
    2. You will most likely need to specify a service ID other then web-cache. On most Cisco devices, web-cache is reserved for port 80 traffic only and cannot be changed. Any other service ID will work as you want it to.

  • How to install and configure OEM agent in VCS cluster

    Hi there,
I would like install 11g OEM agent for SUN SPARC OS for two node VCS cluster. OEM repository is residing in another server.
Database (to be configured) is running on one node of VCS cluster, but it will be able to failover other server for any issues.
I have downloaded the agent for sparc and planning to do the silent install.
Could you please give me the steps to configure both nodes of the cluster including the parameters which need to be changed in the response file?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

We are using OEM agents on VCS clusters. Some options are to 1) fail-over the agent with the database; 2) manually inform OEM that an instance has moved using emcli relocate_targets; 3) use VCS to relocate_targets through a fail-over script. Since our databases don't move much we have been using option 2 but are now testing option 3.

  • Manually starting Intelligent Agent Configuration Assistant and HTTP Listener

I have installed Oracle 9i on Solaris 8 and it stopped with an "Out of Memory" error during the Starter Database creation. I have fixed the memory problem and have now manually started the Database Configuration Assistant manually and managed to install a new database. Now I am trying to start the Intelligent Agent Configuration Assistant and the Apache HTTP Listener, but I cannot find out how to do this so that I can continue on with and complete the installation process from where I left off.
Do anyone know how to do this? I would appreciate any help that anyone can give.
    Thanks
    Anthony

Lets start with what product you are installing and why. An Oracle database installation, in and of itself, does not install an HTTP server.
Of course one might also wonder why you are, just now, installing software so old it is in desupport.

  • Https and http configuration

    Hello All
Can anyone tell me how to configure a website which contain both https and http pages? I mean for example, if you go to your online banking website, all the pages before you reach the Login page are in http. But once you have login, all the pages are under https.
For my own project, I have also installed the SSL onto my Tomcat, it works fine. However, all the pages are under https, even the index.html page. Below is my server.xml, hope it may give you more information.
    Many thanks

True for my version of TOMCAT
I think that if you check http://localhost:8080
you will find that you can access your pages
    with out using http also.
You are applying ssl to the server not the individual
war files. So you can access the files using both
    https and http.
What you need todo is set the security parameters of the
war file that you want to access using https to only allow
    connection using https.
So now you can access the web pages using http or https
but you can only access the file with the security settings
    using https.
Note if you are using sessions becareful you don't jump between
http & https and leave the session id exposed.

  • Running 9i RAC and 10g RAC on the same physical cluster

We are planning to run 9i RAC ( with OCFS2 ) and 10g RAC ( ASM ) on the same cluster with 4-Nodes.
I will really appreciate if any of the forum members can share the information and experiences if the have done such implementation. We are currently running six 9i R2 clusters and are in the process of migrating them. The current need is to make the 9i and 10g cluster co-exist up to a certain point.
    Thank You,

Yes this is possible.. you may want to check out some papers relating to this on OTN and on the RAC SIG website at www.oracleracsig.org.
