I'm makin an EJB but I don't kown how I have to configure it in WSAD.

There is a test client in WSAD for testing EJB's. I think it is called the "Universal Test Client" which allows you to lookup EJB's in the JNDI tree and execute methods on them. It is not terribly user friendly.

Jdbc connection in EJB using wsad 5.0

Hi,
I want to develop a small application using Ejbs by using oracle 9i as D/b, wsad 5.0 as app server . The problem is i am not able to connect to oracle database in WSAD. What i am doing is i have installed Oracle 9i in my system and has given the Global database name as "samp" while installation . I open my SQL plus with username scott and password tiger and i am able to do all my sql queries successfully.
Now coming to WSAD,
while creating a JDBC connection using Oracle 9i driver,
i ve opened in Data perspective and in that go to DB Servers -> Right click -> New Connection
There a window is opened for Database Connection.
We need to fill the fields there.
I have given samp as Global d/b name while installing Oracle 9i .
In the window , the feilds are
Connection Name : conn
Database Name : samp
user id : scott
password : tiger
D/b vendor type: Oracle 9i
Jdbc Driver : Oracle Thin Driver
Host : 127.0.0.1
port No: 1521
class location : c:\oracle\ora90\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip
connection url : jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:samp
the class location and connection url are automatically coming.
and please check whether all fields are correct or not
Is this the correct way.
Next in code if i want to connect to database should i use connection establish commands again or i can directly use create statement or prepare statement.

Adding a Oracle9i DataSource from WSAD5

Before you begin, make sure that you have Oracle installed and a database is created. In this document we will use a database called MALL.
Create a WAS V5 Server
If you don't already have a WebSphere V5 server created, do so following these steps. Switch to the Server perspective. Right click in the Server Configuration view and select New->Server and Server Configuration.
Name the server WASV5. Make sure that the Server type is set to WebSphere version 5.0->Test Environment. Click on Finish.
Add the Database User
In WSAD5, the default user ID and password to be used by a DataSource are first entered as a JAAS authentication entry.
In the Server Configuration view, double click on WASV5 to open the configuration editor. Click on the Security tab. Next to the JAAS Authentication Entries list click on Add and add the user.
Add the JDBC Driver
Still in the server configuration GUI click on the DataSource tab. You can add the DataSource at the server level or at the node level. We will add it at the server level. Make sure that the Server Settings is expanded. Next to the JDBC providers list click on Add.
Select the following options:
Database type: Oracle
JDBC provider type: Oracle JDBC Thin Driver or the XA version of it if you need two phase commit transaction.
Click on Next.
Set the name to Oracle Thin Driver.
Notice that the location of the driver's class is automatically set to ${ORACLE_JDBC_DRIVER_PATH}/classes12.zip. Here, ORACLE_JDBC_DRIVER_PATH is a node level variable. We need to make sure that the variable is pointing to the correct directory where Oracle's JDBC driver is installed. In our case, we had installed Oracle in c:\oracle. This had installed the JDBC driver class in C:/oracle/ora81/jdbc/lib/classes12.zip.
In the server configuration GUI click on the Variables tab. Under the Node settings select ORACLE_JDBC_DRIVER_PATH from the Defined variables list. Click on Edit and set the value to C:/oracle/ora81/jdbc/lib.
Add the DataSource
Click on the DataSource tab again. Select the Oracle Thin Driver you had created in the previous step. Click on Add next to the Data source defined in the JDBC provider selected above list.
Select the following options:
Select the type of JDBC Driver: Oracle JDBC Thin Driver.
Select the data source type: Unless you will be testing your application with WAS V4, select Version 5.0. You can not use a V4 DataSource from a J2EE 1.3 EJB module running in WebSphere V5.
Click on Next.
Enter these key attributes in this screen:
Name: My Oracle DataSource
JNDI Name: jdbc/MyDataSource
DataSource helper class name: com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.OracleDataStoreHelper. Should be selected by default. The helper class is needed if you wish to access IBM extensions to JDBC. For more details search in WSAD help for "WSDataSource interface".
Component-managed authentication alias: Set this if you wish to lookup the DataSource using its global JNDI name or using the java:comp/env/ name space and have set the authentication type of the resource reference to Application. Select the JAAS entry you had created. That is, Database user.
Container-managed authentication alias: Set this if you intend to lookup the DataSource using the java:comp/env/ name space and have set the authentication type of the resource reference to Container. Select the JAAS entry you had created. That is, Database user.
Use this data source in container managed persistence (CMP): Check on if you intend to use the DataSource from CMP EJBs.
Click on Next.
You need to set these properties:
databaseName: MALL in our case.
URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@noble.webagesolutions.com:1521:MALL. In my case the server host name is noble.webagesolutions.com. The listener port number is 1521 (usually the default in most Oracle installations).
Click on Finish.
You have finished adding the DataSource. Save the server settings by clicking Control+S. Close the server configuration GUI.
Testing the DataSource
There is no out of the box way to test the DataSource. You can create a simple Servlet and add the following code:

Jserver Configuration for EJBs

I am having trouble with running the EJB demo basic/helloworld.
The problem should point to a configuration problem of some sort, but I do not know what.
I get the following output:

Error configuring new EJB

I am trying to install a new EJB named SecurityUtil. I'm using WL 6.1,
SP2 on a Win2k machine. The EJB jar is in the list of application
files currently installed on the admin console. I think I
'auto-deployed' it by copying the .jar to the /applications directory
of my server. The server and domain that I'm trying to install this
EJB into is up and running fine, because we're running our current
application there just fine. (our application uses a different
framework than EJBs, with JSPs, Servlets, and JDBC, and I'm trying to
see if we want to use EJBs now.)

When I try to configure a new EJB and click the Create button, I get
no response at all. No message, no error, nothing, even after waiting
several minutes. When I hit the Create button a 2nd time, I get a
stack trace for javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException. I
have noticed the following tag in the config.xml file, I'm assuming it
was written there when the EJB jar file was auto-deployed :

Path=".\config\vwdomain\applications\SecurityUtil.jar"/>

It looks like something has gone wrong. I'd suggest deleting that
<Application> entry from your config.xml and try again.
You can basically deploy in a few different ways in WLS:
1) copy the jar/war/ear file to the applications directory
or
2) deploy through weblogic.deploy or weblogic.Deployer(7.0)
or
3) deploy through the console

EJB adapter configured in Jdev is not reflecting in Oracle BPM References

Hi All,
I have configured an EJB service adapter in Oracle Jdeveloper in external references swim lane to call it from Oracle BPM workflow/process. But, that is not getting reflected in Oracle BPM process "References(folder)" in Business catalog. I dont know why it is not reflecting.
I tried with Service activity in BPM process, there also it is not reflecting.
Can somebody help me on this.

EJB 3.0 @Stateless @EJB @Resource and JNDI clarity..

Hi,
I am trying to configure an EJB 3.0 but not able to do so properly.
I have a single business interface and 2 bean implementation class of the same business interface doing different things. How do I access the EJB's if I have the same business interface class.I am getting JNDI error while trying to lookup.
Also what does the "name" and "mappedName" in @Stateless(name ="...",mappedName="") signify.
Then in case of Dependency injection,how should I look for the EJB? What would be it's JNDI name in this case?

In @Stateless, @name() is the annotation equivalent of <ejb-name> in ejb-jar.xml. It gives a unique bean name identifier to the component within the ejb-jar. It is completely independent of mappedName. If no @Stateless name() is specified, it defaults to the unqualified bean class name.
In @Stateless, mappedName() is used to assign a global JNDI name to the bean's remote interface. This can be used to explicitly lookup the EJB reference to that interface or as one way to resolve a caller's EJB dependency.
In @EJB, if the target of the dependency lives within the same application, you can always fully resolve it using only beanName(). beanName() takes the value specified in @Stateless name(), or the default as described above.
@EJB name() assigns a name to the client dependency within the caller's component environment. It is optional. In most cases that value doesn't matter since if the dependency is being injected you never have to refer to the name() attribute anywhere else.
@EJB mappedName() is used to resolve an EJB dependency that spans applications. It holds a global JNDI name, e.g. the one specified in @Stateless mappedName(). mappedName() is not required to be supported by all vendors.
So, to sum it all up, it's fine to have two different beans that expose the same interface. E.g. :
@Stateless(name="A1", mappedName="A1Global")
public class A1 implements A { ... }
@Stateless(mappedName="A2Global") // name() defaults to "A2"
public class A2 implements A { ... }
In a caller within the same application :

Ejb-ref in oc4j 10.1.3.2.0 standalone

i asked this before, but i didnt receive any answers. So i looked in more deeply to be more precise.
I developed and deployed a Webservice with JDEV 10.1.3 which looks up EJBs in a remote oc4j. I configured the ejb-references in web.xml and orion-web.xml like shown in the documentation by using ejb-ref-mapping attribute jndi-properties-file and remote-server-ref=true. That works fine in embedded oc4j 10.1.3.2.0.
If i deploy the same application to standalone oc4j 10.1.3.2.0 the application fails wih a naming exception. If i hardcode the jndi-properties again all works fine, so it seems to be a problem of configuration.
So i let print out some information about the InitialContext constructed im the ServiceLocator-Class i use:

The difference is obvious.

dosnt neither define jndi-properties-file nor remote-server-ref for ejb-ref-mapping. On the other hand, thats what one finds in the documentation.
Another problem is, that originally the oc4j tried to lookup with protocol ormis.
So i had first to delete ssl-port = "23943" from rmi.xml to see ormi.
Now on the first call of the Web Service after start of the server in fact the lookup goes to the remote-IP not to the IP-ofTheHostOfOC4J as written before. But the lookup fails with a namingexception anyway. After the second call the lookup goes to IP-ofTheHostOfOC4J again, even though the application is restarted or redeployed.
Its not very funny to go through this configuration issues with every new revision of the software. Perhaps the lack of feedback in this forum is a hint to open more often a tar than to post herein.

First of all this is not a Web Service specific issue at all, its about configuring ejb-references for web-components.
The difference was between embedded and standalone.
The reason for this behavior is a bug in 10.1.3.1 standalone.
I think this could be fixed in this 1/2 GB patch from july 2007, so why not upgrading to 10.1.3.3 for which i assume that it includes the fix as Olaf proposed following my proposal ;-)
Anyway you can work around it quite simple:
The reason is that during the deployment the contents of the custom (contained in the ear-file) orion-web.xml is not properly added to the generated orion-web.xml in applications-deployments.
The ejb-remote attrbiute is discarded.
So just add it to the generated orion-web.xml after the deployment and restart the oc4j. Dont redeploy or restart the application cause a redopleyment would overwrite your changes.

I have successfully developed and deployed an EJB using WSAD 5.1.2's WebSphere 5.0 Test Environment. I have even able to access the EJB using UTC(Universal Test Client) in WSAD and by launching the j2ee client module using

I read somewhere with axis mailing lists that it is problem related to axis's saaj.jar and wsad's websphere 5.0
test environment's webservices.jar so I even replaced my wsad installation's D:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere Studio\Application Developer\v5.1.2\runtimes\base_v5\lib\webservices.jar with
saaj.jar but this did not help and even I have added an references to saaj.jar usign wsad's websphere 5.0 test environment
environment tab->ws.ext.dirs property and even this did not help.
Can anyone please tell me why is error occurring and how to solve it ?

A prefix can be included in the EJB JNDI name dynamically?

In the Stateless annotation, we can specify the mappedName attribute to the EJB JNDI name bind.
Can we specify a prefix to the mappedName separately?
For example: We have this:
@Stateless(mappedName="myEJB")And don't want to do this:
@Stateless(mappedName="prefix/myEJB")We want to include the prefix in another place in the code dynamically.

Can a session EJB be accessed by more than one client?

I would like to have an instance of a persistent EJB which is accessible by more than one client and which will not be destroyed after usage. Apparently session beans can only be accessed by one client and are created every time they are accessed. In my case this creation is quite time and resource consuming. Is it an alternative to use an entity bean instead, even if the logic of the bean doesn't have anything to do with direct database access?

It seems to me that what you want is exactly a session bean will do. The EJB container is responsible to maintain a certain number instances (configurable) of your session bean and serve multiple clients at the same time. Session beans are not necessarily destroyed after serving a client. If you configure your ejb server to have a pool size of 2 to 100, then you will always have at least 2 instances (no more than 100 even there are a lot of client access) of this ejb ready to serve. The only thing not clear to me is that do you want to use only ONE instance of this bean or you don't care as long as multiple clients can access this bean's service? Since you mentioned that there is not a real database access, you can certainly use a Singleton but a 'regular' session bean with static fields should do it also if these fields will not be modified by clients.

EJB Client JAR Creation - Workspace Studio (ALSB 3.0/WLS 10)

I'm trying to create an EJB Client JAR for an 2.1 Session Bean EJB Created in a WLS 10 domain using BEA Workspace Studio (i.e. this is the Aqualogic Service Bus 3.0 Product install).
I'm doing this in preparation for testing the ALSB EJB Transport which requires a client JAR.
I simply can't get a useful JAR from the facility provided in the Workspace IDE. The Workspace help is pointing to an IBM generated page and I'm following the procedure there.
I have configured the EJB for an EJB Client Project.
If I export an EAR from the Application containing the EJB, the EAR only contains the EJB JAR (with a Manifest entry to a non-existent Client JAR).
If I export the EJB Client Project to a JAR the JAR is simply empty i.e. contains some descriptor type artefacts but no classes.
I have tried this quite a few times with the same outcome. Can anyone from BEA or the user community confirm whether or not this facility actually works!

The standard way to configure an ejb is to add ejb-resources
and environment entries to the deployment descriptor of the bean.
environment entries can be accessed over the java:comp/env context
in JNDI (from within a bean).
