Configure listener for new database

When trying to setup my database I get a warning "Configuring the dababase with dbcontrol requires a listener to be configured in the current oracle home"
I run netca and there is a LISTENER there, any ideas what is going wrong?
Many thanks

    hi guys,
just want to check whether this is the right way to configure my Listener.ORA . I am using 1 listener.ora to listen for incoming request connection from remote client. There are multiple databases installed in a server.

)sorry i am reading about it so did not install another database to test out. Just thinking in the line that it mention that the list of SID is refering to the multiple database that is installed in a server and i am using 1 listener.
    Please further advice.

    Hi,
You need to a script and run it on os level. Here is an example:-
    emcli relocate_targets -src_agent=agentmachine1.domain:3872

  • Listener for new incoming SMS

    Hi,
Can you tell me how to make or use (may be a library ) a listener that can response if an incoming sms received.
    Thanks.

What's the listener that listens for new tabs being
    added to JTabbedPane?ContainerListener

  • Same listener for 2 databases

    Hi,
i installed oracle EM GRID CONSOLE on my linux system with database called "emrep"
and then i installed another database "orcl"
now when i log into grid console and i view my targets i see only one listener
    called "LISTENER0_oracle.ebenezer.com"
and when i see the serviced databases for this listener, i see both the databases under this listener.
does this mean that one listener in one system is all required to service how many databases as possible.
or do we need one unique listener for each database. if then how can i create unique listeners.
    Can someone help me please.
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    Philip,
I will try to answer at your questions.
so from what u r saying is, if i have 3 databases in
my linux system under different oracle_homes.
all i need is one listener.ora file and have all 3
databases start under this one file. and i can delete
the other 2 listener.ora files, because i dont need
them at all.For this, my answer is a question : why have different ORACLE_HOME if databases are in same version ? This is Ok when database are in different oracle version.
    1. if i want to know how many listeners are in setup...You can see it with lsnrctl command, after set well ORACLE_HOME (for linux, export ...) :
    set ORACLE_HOME=e:\oracle\ora92
    E:\oracle\ora92\bin>lsnrctl status

    2. when i create a listener using net configuartion...For my part, manually seems the only one solution in your case.
    >
3.when i have 3 databases and i when i login through...When you are logon to database, you can see what db with
select * from v$instance; But to connect to an other db, you need first set as well your ORACLE_SID
    export ORACLE_SID=emrep
    sqlplus '/ as sysdba'>
    4. when i create a database by default the listener...Default name is well in most of case, but you can give a name to know the environment (like LISTENER_DEV, LISTENER_PROD...)
Perhaps you need to read some Oracle docs. You can find here http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 too many docs, I can advise you to read 2 Day DBA to start as well your dba life.
    Good luck in your job,

  • NETCA listener configuration error for RAC database

    Hi,
WE have a RAC setup on 2 nodes and now we want to change the default listener port for RAC database.
    Database ver: 10.2.0.4

When we try to start the listener say listener_I it throws following error:
    Problem in configuration :node1
Listener start to failed:Listener may already be running
    CRS-0215:Could not start resource
    This is urgent

  • How to configure different listener for each database in 11gR2 RAC

    Hi Friends,
    Current Prod Setup :
11gR2 (11.2..0.2) RAC on RHEL 5.5 with 3 SCAN Listeners on default 1521 port.
Having 4 databases which are using SCAN-IP and listening on default port only.
As per policy, we have to create separate listeners (on different port) for each database.
    like,

    DB2 - 1523
    DB3 - 1524
    DB4 - 1525

I installed Oracle 11g on Windows 7 and created my 1st database instance (oracleInstance1) successfully with a listener and service configured. I could access this database using DBconsole URL: https://hostname:1158/em.
I see the services started for:
    OracleDBConsoleOracleInstance1
    OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    OracleServiceOracleInstance1
Next, I created a second database instance (oracleInstance2) and have configured a new service for this database. I am using the same listener as I intend to use one database instance at any point of time.
However, I got this warning message during configuration:

When I try to start dbconsole manually using "emctl dbconsole start", it starts OracleDBConsoleOracle1 instead.
    I changed environment variables ORACLE_SID=oracle2 and ORACLE_UNQNAME=oracle2
What am I missing here. Please help!

"I am using the same listener as I intend to use one database instance at any point of time. "
Doesn't' matter if you use one instance or 100. The listener was DESIGNED to service multiple instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is nothing but a connection broker. A telephone switchboard, if you will. All you need is a single listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running on the default port of 1521. It will handle all the database instances you care to throw at it. More instances than anyone in their right mind would ever put on a single server. Your server will run out of capacity to host additional instances before the listener runs out of capacity to service them. Especially since your 'server' is really just a toy in the Oracle world.

So I can plant it after Create DB script and have both in 1 step.
    P.S.
The most obvious keywords on main SE don't return something for this so it worths adding it

Better: create database template and execute dbca in silent mode.
Also execute netca in silent mode as Harrison suggest.
PS: Adding the 5 lines to tnsnames.ora does not create a network service, first you have to set the "service_names" init parameter and the listener will create the service when the database starts (simplified explanation).

    Hi Ken,
You need to configure this on both primary and standby, I would have kept different listener name on primary and standby. Also if you are going to use dataguard broker you would need to set GLOBAL_DBNAME in your listener.ora file
I have give a sample entry for tnsnames.ora and listener.ora
    TNSNAMES.ORA on primary
    STNDBY =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2-prv)(PORT = 10521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = STNDBY)
    PRIM =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1-prv)(PORT = 10521)))
    PRIMARY =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =

    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PRIMARY)

    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
Copy the same file to the standby server and adjust it based on the listener.ora file. Also update the listener.ora file so that it listen the SIDs mentioned in the tnsnames.ora file.

  • Configure Listener for Multiple IP's???

I need to know how to configure my listener on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server using Oracle 8i to allow for the following conditions:
    1) I have 4 NIC'S in my server and I have 1 different IP address on each NIC.
    2) Stations will connect to Oracle via those 4 different IP's/NIC'S for load balancing of the NIC'S.
    3) There is only 1 SID used for my database.
Any suggestions of how to configure the listener?
    Any Help GREATLY appreciated!!!

Can you use the idea posted here?
You only have 2 options if you want to use remote desktop on multiple pc's on the same lan. Change the listening port, or forward an external port to a different internal port. Don’t enable upnp, there’s no need for it and it will just cause more problems than its worth. why would you want an application opening ports on your firewall without you knowing it? Just change the listening port on pc 2 to 3390, pc 3 to 3391. Then forward these ports to each respective ip address (should be static ips). and you are done. When you want to connect to pc 1 you type {your ip} and it will connect to pc 1. For pc 2, you type {your ip}:3390. pc 3 {your ip}:3391.

  • Do we need run catbundle.sql file for new databases.

    dear all,
i have doubt over execution of catbundle.sql or not?
    scenario:
    i have insatlled 10gr2 on rhel5 and applied patchset 4 (10.2.0.5) and applied Oracle® Database Patch 10248542 - 10.2.0.5.2 Patch Set Update
after this i have create fresh database.
    now,
in Oracle® Database Patch 10248542 - 10.2.0.5.2 Patch Set Update document it has specified in belwo section
3.4 Post Installation Instructions for Databases Created or Upgraded after Installation of PSU 10.2.0.5.2 in the Oracle Home
These instructions are for a database that is created or upgraded after the installation of PSU 10.2.0.5.2.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.2, "Loading Modified SQL Files into the Database" for any new database only if it was created by any of the following methods:
Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
Cloning a database that was created by either of the two preceding methods, and if the steps in Section 3.3.2, "Loading Modified SQL Files into the Database" were not executed after PSU 10.2.0.5.2 was applied
Upgraded databases do not require any post-installation steps.
so do we need to run catbundle here or not.
since i have created fresh database after applying 10.2.0.5 PSU2 why does it required.

  • Is it possible to add support for new database type in Data Modeler?

    Hi,
I see that Data Modeler v.4 supports different versions of Oracle, DB2 and MS SQL. Is it possible to add support for a new database family,
PostgreSQL for example? I hoped that RDBMS Site editor can do it, but so far I don't see any possibility to add XML files with metadata for a new RDBMS.
I did it previously for PowerDesigner were it is possible to add and modify definitions for new relational databases.
    Thank you,
    Sergei

  • Trouble using asm instance for new database

I have an asm instance and am trying to create a new database that will use the asm storage. I'm using dbca to create the new database. This is a test system on windows so I'm using the asmtool -create flatfiles for disks with the asmallow_only_raw_disks parameter set to false.
If I have #SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) commented out in my sqlnet.ora, then I can't get into asmcmd:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
and dbca won't create the new database that uses asm because the dbca gets the same 01031 error when trying to create the control files for that database.
If I have SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) NOT commented out, the I can get into asmcmd, but I can't startup the databases using sys, even though I am sitting at the server,
AND, dbca won't create the new database that uses asm becuase the dbca can't start the instance
    credential retrieval failure.
I'm in a catch 22. Something is not right with my system but I just can't seem to figure out what it is.
The asm instance does have a password file.

I let the dbca create scripts and am currently walking through the scripts. I think it's my asm database that is actually creating the problem. I did the orapwd and oradim manually and can startup nomount the instance just fine. The create database statement fails on creating the controlfile but it's saying it already exists. I suspected the dbca form wasn't giving me all the errors like it should.
Thanks for your suggestion on the password file.
