Configure service application associations using PowerShell
Hi all,
I have configured my service applications with PowerShell scripts and created a new web applications (also with PowerShell scripts).
However, I don't seem to find the necessary information on how to configure the service application to be used by this new web application using PowerShell cmdlets.
Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Florin
What you're describing is called a Proxy Group. You add Service Application Proxies to the Service Application Proxy Group, and that Proxy Group is assigned to the Web Application.
Step 1:
Use
New-SPServiceApplicationProxyGroup
Step 2:
Add Service Application Proxies by adding Members via
Add-SPServiceApplicationProxyGroupMember
Step 3:
Assign the Proxy Group to the Web Application via
Set-SPWebApplication -ServiceApplicationProxyGroup
Let us know if you need further help.

Last week, I installed 3 virtual servers (WFE, APP and DB).
When I started to create the service applications on the app server, several of them gave me the following error at the end:
"Your session has expired. Restart this wizard to continue. "
Although the error occured, they actually are created. But I'm having difficulties with the Secure Store Service. I try to add a new Target Application and when I click Next, I get the same error.
I tried to delete the application and recreate it. Tried to stop/start the Secure Store Service. I'm doing this as a local admin on the server (which was also used for installation and configuration of Sharepoint).
No events in the eventlog. There is some logging in the ULS :

The funny thing is... the service applications which I expected to give me some kind of trouble, are working perfect (User profile sync, Search). I installed numerous servers in the past 3 months and this is the first time I'm running into this and it's
driving me crazy.After searching and searching, I found something...

And the first reply caught my attention.
It says that if your servername contains an underscore, these kind of errors might occur.
And for sure, my servernames contain underscores. DOH!
I'm going to change it and recreate the farm... just to be safe. Will get back with the results.

How to configure ADF application to use OAM Identity Assertion ? web.xml
We have a web application developed using ADF (application development framework) and deployed on WebCenter 11.1.1.2 (weblogic 10.3.2)
OID Authentication and OAM identity assertion is configured in WebLogic 10.3.2 .
How to configure security in ADF application (web.xml or weblogic.xml) so that it uses OAM identity assertion (already configured as authentication providers in weblogic server)
Any pointers or documentation so that application (developed using ADF) check for identity tocken and verifies it with one of identity assertion providers.John,
I have to concur. With OAM you don't need this. OAM intercepts the calls and inserts a cookie for WLS to get user information from.
I strongly advise to go through the above mention OFM Security Guide. Esp. Chapter 10 tells you in every detail how to implement OAM SSO with WLS (with or without OHS as a proxy).
Reading this chapter saves you time and turnarounds on this topic...

Renaming SCCM package application catalog using powershell
I am trying to change the application properties in SCCM Configmgr2012 of over 2000 applications, i need to have the Application Catalog name changed to match the package Name, for doing this i need to design a power shell script, since i am new to
power shell i am not sure what parameters i should use and appropriate functions to be used. if anybody has created something similar please share information on this. Hope i am clear with my question.
Thanks.
Example
Path: Software library-Overview-Application Management-Applications-Adobe
Application-Right click-properties-General Information tab-Name
Adobe_Acrobat X Pro_10.0.0_01
Application-Right click-properties-Application catalog-Localized application name Adobe_Acrobat X Pro -EnglishThat the applications are not in the same folder is not a problem, as you can iterate through all applications without knowing the folder location. The problem is that if you want to script this there needs to be a starting point. Something that's the
same for all application names, so you can script something to get a specific part of the name.

Hi all. I have been searching for days for a solution to a problem I am having with SP2013 Enterprise edition.
We recently upgraded from SP2013 Foundation to SP2013 Enterprise. After the upgrade, the search services are no longer working and we are receiving many application log entries indicating the following:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (ea2019ef-bb9e-4efe-85ee-5d2307406f31).

I have tried to remove the search service application and recreate it, and even though the SharePoint Central Administration states that it was created successfully, I am still getting the same errors in the log. If I go to the Search Service Application
Search Administration page, the "System Status" shows the following message:
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '0359af35-0982-4ede-8838-b1d390e915bf' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and
try again
Additionally, under the "Search Application Topology" section, it states "Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running" which I assume is normal if the admin is not
running.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem?
Thanks!Hi Joaquin,
According to your description, the error occurred when you re-created the Search Service Application.
Based on the error message, I recommend to verify the things below:
1. Check if the association between the Search Service Application proxy and the web application is configured.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Configured service application associations > Click Default to see if the Search Service application is checked.
2. Change the app pool for the Search Service Application to SharePoint Web Services Default in the properties of the Search Service Application.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > Highlight the Search Service Application > Click Properties in the ribbon > Change
the two app pool to SharePoint Web Services Default: App Pool For Search Admin Web Service and Application Pool for Search Query and Site Settings Web Service.
3. Run PS command to check if the search admin timer job is enabled: Get-SPTimerJob
job-application-server-admin-service | fl. If it is not enabled, use PS command to enabled it and then reset Internet Information Services: Enable-SPTimerJob job-application-server-admin-service.
Best regards.
Thanks

Service application database 2010 migration to 2013
If we want to migrate e.g. only Managed metadata service application database from 2010 to 2013 environment what will be exact steps?
(I know for content db we have to use Powershell Mount command).
But I guess in case of service application databases Mount command will not work, Can any one say if it true or not?
What are the steps involved to migrate such service application databases through Powershell?See here for a guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839719%28v=office.15%29.aspx
In short, you create a new MMS and reference the copy of the MMS database you've moved to the new SQL instance for 2013. -
How to remove farm account from Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application
Hello Community
Using Sharpoint 2010 Server I think the reason
the User Profile Synchronization would stop is because somehow the farm
account was registered as a managed account. So I removed the farm
account from all services that ran under the farm account so that I could
run Remove-SPManagedAccount or click the Remove icon in manage service accounts
and then unregisted farm account as a managed account.
But before I can run Remove-SPManagedAccount I need to remove it from one more
service account that uses the farm account which is:
"Application Discovery and Load Balanceer Service Account".
However, nothing seems to remove it from there.
I tried :
"get-spserviceapplication | where {$_.TypeName -match "Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application"}
and then
"stop-spserviceinstance "dde7fbef-b068-4687-bedb-f67230efab5a"
amongst a host of other methods so that I could ultimately
unregister farm account as a managed account.
But no matter what I do when I try to remove the farm account from Application Discovery
and Load Balancer Service Application
and then unregister the farm account as a managed account a message always says
"Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application" is using the farm account
as its service account.
What can I do to free the farm account from Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application?
Thank you
ShabeautThe Farm Account is always a Managed Account and can never be "unmanaged". You don't have to set the automatic password roll.

Hi Basva,
Do you want to provision two search service applications in single farm?
Commonly, only one search service application is needed in a farm for Search function.
Here are articles for detail information about how to provision search service application using powershell:

Application-to-application authentication using Calendar Web Services
Calendar Web Services
Application-to-application authentication
(Proxy authentication)
Abstract:
Application-to-application authentication allows services to trust other services without having to authenticate the end-user making use of these services. The Calendar Web Services offers an application-to-application authentication mechanism called âProxy Authenticationâ.
What is Proxy Authentication?
The Calendar Web Services Proxy Authentication is a solution that was developed by the Oracle Calendar team and is similar to what SSO would be to the web. Proxy Authentication allows any application developed using the Calendar Web Services Toolkit to establish a trusted authentication link to the Calendar Server via the Calendar Web Services.
What do I need to get Proxy Authentication going?
- The Calendar Web Services Toolkit 9.0.4.2.X (Calendarlet.jar)
- The Calendar Web Services 9.0.4.2.X (OCAS)
- The Calendar Server 9.0.4.2.X (Calserv)
- Oracle Internet Directory 9.0.4.X (OID)
Your collaboration suite deployment MUST be configured in a way where the Calendar Server is connected to the OID (done by default). This is fundamental given that Proxy Auth is designed to extensively use the OID security schemes.
How to configure Proxy Authentication?
You must have:
1. Access to the OID administrator account.
2. Access to the ldap tools ($ORACLE_HOME/ldap/bin).
3. Access to the Oracle Calendar Server administrator password.
OID Configuration
Create an entry for your application product in OID
The following entry needs to be created:
- cn=OracleContext
- cn=Products
- cn=MyApplicationProduct
The MyApplicationProduct.ldif will look like:
dn: cn= MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products, cn=OracleContext
objectClass: orclContainer
objectClass: top
The command to add the entry is
./ldapadd -h HOSTNAME.COM -p OIDPORT -D "cn=orcladmin" -w PASSWROD -f ./MyApplicationProduct.ldif
Where [HOSTNAME.COM] is the OID server hostname, [PASSWROD] is the password for the OID directory and [OIDPORT] is the OID port.
Create an application entity for MyAppName in OID
The following entry needs to be added to the OID:
- cn=OracleContext
- cn=Products
- cn= MyApplicationProduct
- orclApplicationCommonName=MyAppName
The MyAppName.ldif will look like:
dn: orclApplicationCommonName= MyAppName,
cn= MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products,
cn=OracleContext
objectClass: orclApplicationEntity
objectClass: top
orclApplicationCommonName: MyAppName
userpassword: test1
The command to add the entry is
./ldapadd -h HOSTNAME.COM -p OIDPORT -D "cn=orcladmin" -w PASSWORD -f ./MyAppName.ldif
Ensure the entry is properly configured
Perform an LDAP search to locate the entry's distinguished name:
"orclApplicationCommonName= MyAppName,
cn= MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products,
cn=OracleContext"
./ldapsearch -h HOSTNAME.COM -p OIDPORT -D "cn=orcladmin" -w PASSWROD
-b "cn= MyApplicationProduct,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext"
"objectclass=orclApplicationEntity" "c"
Grant proxy privileges to the new application entity
This creates an entry in OID:
- dc=com
- dc=oracle
- dc=us
- cn=OracleContext
- cn=Products
- cn=Calendar
- cn=UserProxyPrivilege
- uniquemember:
orclApplicationCommonName= MyAppName,
cn= MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products,
cn=OracleContext
From the $ORACLE_HOME/ocal/bin
./unioidconf -grantproxyprivilege \
"orclApplicationCommonName= MyAppName,
cn= MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products,
cn=OracleContext"
NOTE: you need the calendar server admin password.
How to use Proxy Authentication?
Once successfully done configuring your OID and Calendar Server, you must start the real work; coding. It is actually simple to implement.
In your Java application, you will simply change the BasicAuth class with the ProxyAuth class. You then set the end-user identity, along with the proxy application name and proxy application password, you registered a moment ago.
Ex:
ProxyAuth auth = new ProxyAuth();
auth.setApplicationName("orclApplicationCommonName=MyAppName, cn=MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products, cn=OracleContext");
auth.setApplicationPassword(âtest1â);
auth.setName(myUserId);
Your application will no longer need to pass the end-userâs password to the Calendar Web Services. From now on, it is your applicationâs responsibility to authenticate the end-user.
Frederic LeblancI found the solution:
Using the CalendaringResponse.getReceiveBuffer() and getSendBuffer() methods, the soap request looks something like this:
Sendbuffer: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<SOAP-ENV:Header>
<auth:ProxyAuth xmlns:auth="http://www.oracle.com/WebServices/Calendaring/Authentication/1.0/"><ApplicationName>orclApplicationCommonName=MyAppName,cn=MyApplicationProduct, cn=Products, cn=OracleContext</ApplicationName><ApplicationPassword>testpw1</ApplicationPassword><Name>king</Name></auth:ProxyAuth>
</SOAP-ENV:Header>
<SOAP-ENV:Body>
<cwsl:Search xmlns:cwsl="http://www.oracle.com/WebServices/Calendaring/1.0/"><CmdId>MySearchCommandID-1</CmdId><vQuery><From>VEVENT</From><Where>DTEND >= '20061007T220000Z' AND DTSTART <= '20061014T215900Z'</Where></vQuery></cwsl:Search>

Log Message:
Fix typo in error string for situations where there are advanced messaging configuration settings from LCDS used in the configuration files but no AdvancedMessagingSupport service. The error string said that there was no flex.messaging.services.AdvancedMessagingService registered but it is the flex.messaging.services.AdvancedMessagingSupport service that needs to be registered.
Add configuration test that starts the server with a destination that has the reliable property set which is an advanced messaging feature but there is no AdvancedMessagingSupport service registered.

Unfortunately I already tried all kinds of re-installs (the full list is in my original message). The only one remaining is the reinstall of Windows 8 itself, which I would really like to avoid.
What I find really strange is the time it takes for the above error message to appear. It's like one hour or even more (never measured exactly, I left the computer running).
What kind of a timeout is that? I would expect that, if ports are really used by some other application, I get the message in less than a minute (seconds, actually). To me this looks like the emulator itself for some reason believes there's a problem with
some port while in reality there isn't.
I'll eventually contact Microsoft Support, thanks for the suggestion.
