Configuring SquirrelMail to use SSL with SMTP

I ran the conf.pl script to have SquirrelMail access my IMAP server via SSL, and everything works.
I then tried to use SSL with SMTP as well but when I used SquirrelMail to send mail, I got an error saying "Can't open SMTP stream". What is the correct setting to tell conf.pl to use?
I had secure SMTP enabled and chose CRAM-MD5 for the authentication method.
I actually have my web server and smtp server on the same machine, so this is more of a hypothetical question. In the end I turned off secure SMTP and set authentication back to none.

I don't have access to logs right now, but to answer your other question, SSL works fine when sending from Mail.
But with Mail, I supply the username and password; which user does SquirrelMail use to send?

  • Configuring GALsync to use SSL

    Hi all,
    Does anyone have a link to instructions for configuring FIM GALsync to use SSL rather than just sign and encrypt LDAP traffic please?
    just ticking the box doesn't work, so I'm assuming certificates need to be installed at both ends, not sure what certificates (internal vs public CA), or where to install them (just at the OS level?)
    Thanks

  • Mac mail: Use SSL on SMTP Server turning on

    I recently received and set up a new macbook pro (OSX 10.8.3) and I use it in both a wireless and wired network state.
    I set up some POP accounts in my mac mail, and everything works great.  But it seems that whenever I switch between networks, the "Use SSL" checkbox in my SMTP account for the mail magically turns on (I say "seems" because it could be some other factor such as actually changing to a completely different network location).  At this point I can send out no new mails.  I tracked this down fairly quickly, and annoying as it is, it *appears* at first glance to have a simple solution, go in and uncheck the box every time.  However, the frustrating thing is, as soon as this occurs, I can't get the unchecked box to save. I'll go in, uncheck it, close it down, mail still won't send, and when I go back in I find it's still happily checked as "Use SSL".
    The only way I've found to solve this problem so far is to delete the SMTP account, and then create a brand new one with the option unchecked.  But having to do this every time I switch networks is ridiculous!
    Does anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on or how I can *permanently* resolve this issue rather than resetting up my SMTP account over and over.

    This seems to be a bug in 10.8.3. I submitted a bugreport and Apple replied this was a 'known bug'. Hope they fix it rather soon.

  • Configure MQ Connection using SSL

    Hi,
    I wonder if its possible to tell the "foreign" JMS MQ client to use a specific
    private key/certificate when communicating with its MQ Server which requires a
    SSL connection. I have setup the parameters for the MQ part so far and if run
    in an example outside WLS it uses the JCP from Sun and perfectly communicates
    with the Server. We also have setup SSL with a differnt key and it works fine
    (T3s, etc.). But how to tell the WLS what additional keystore/alias it should
    use when the connection to the MQ server should be handled ?
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Regards
    Tomy

    WLS configuration allows to set the server's SSL identity and trust that will be
    used by the server to identify itself to its SSL clients. The SSL clients running
    on server using WLS SSL APIs inherit server's SSL trust configuration. The identity
    of the client has to be configured via particular client API. There is no way
    to configure WLS to do that for you.

    Hi,
    I assume you did create a keystore and trustore, right?
    Could you verify that the paths to these files you give in your java options
    are correct?
    You could also try to activate debug traces - in particular security traces - see
    at the end of this blog:
    http://blogs.sun.com/jmxetc/entry/troubleshooting_connection_problems_in_jconsole
    This may help you diagnose what is going wrong.

  • Is it possible to use SSL with LDAP, but not rest of Hyperion environment?

    Hello Experts,
    We need to encrypt the user credentials passed between LDAP and Shared Services. For this, I believe, we need to use SSL. And for that, we need to SSL enable the Web App Server that Shared Services runs off? If we enable SSL on this, is it possible to continue using non-SSL versions of App & Web servers in the rest of the Hyperion environment? This is because SSL will cause a negative impact to performance, and we want to reduce that impact as much as possible.
    Environment:
    Shared Services 9.3.1.0.7 on WebSphere Application Server 6.0.2.11 on Windows 2003
    Planning 9.3.1.1
    Essbase 9.3.1
    HFM 9.3.1
    BI+ 9.3.1
    Please Suggest. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sonu

    Both windows and osx do a few things that can cause problems, they do what you say, they assume that you will connect to the same network you last connected and try to use the same configuration, they try to skip most steps like dhcp and arp and it will probably work fine if it actually is the same network and no one else got the same IP otherwise they will have to go through all the steps.
    I have seen a blog post describing the differences a while ago but now I can't find it and I don't remember how I got there, I guess that if you search long enough you might stumble upon some description of this. From what I remember, the short story is that on linux programs go by the book and try to be good neighbors, windows and osx don't and they can cause trouble just for the sake of shaving a few seconds of the time to get connected, the thing is most of the times it works fine

    Regards,

    A possible reason for this is the requirement for something in the 'Path' field such as public_html - some ISPs don't use this, some do, or something different. This is a folder in your server space, and its contents represent the published webspace, so if you don't have the path when it's required you are publishing to a level on the server one above what outsiders can read. This is something you'd have to check with Easyspace.

  • How to configure sap to use gmail as smtp server?

    Hi experts,
    I need to know how to configure gmail as my smtp server. In the scot transaction I don't see anywhere where to specify whether it is a ssh connection, ports for secure smtp, username, password.
    Does anyone know how to configure sap to use gmail as the smtp server?
    I've seen some similar threads about this, but they are of no help. Although they are classified as answered, in most cases the reason they are answered is because the person who made the query dropped the cause trying to make it work. I'd like to know for sure is this is possible or not.

    Hi Camilo,
    You can't set up gmail as your smtp server to handle this. gmail is an email server which generally are based on POP protocol. now for SAP to send mail to gmail, you would need one SMTP capable server which can relay those message received from SAP to configured email address.
    As of WAS 6.10 SAP kernel supports SMTP without more components. i.e e-mails can be sent (or received) from the SAP system to each SMTP-compatible mail server. see SAP note 455140 for more details.
    Hope this clarifies your doubt.

  • Using SSL with Apache Virtual Hosts

    I am configuring Apache to use 3 virtual Host(Named base virtual Host).
    I would like to run SSL on two of the 3 virtual host.
    Do I need to gen a certificate for each virtual host or can I just use 1?

    William,
    I thought I'd give my 2 cents on this...
    Is there any particular reason as to why you are using named based virtual hosts?
    Apache recommends using IP based virtual hosts over name based virtual hosts.
    Go to http://httpd.apache.org/docs/dns-caveats.html and read the discussion on IP based virtual hosts and name based virtual hosts. The document describes the drawbacks to using the name-based approach.
    Hope this helps!

    Can anyone help me on this issue?
    Regards,
    Bindu

    I have already tried this before and this not work too, but strange that even if I use JDBC:ODBC bridge driver, the return value for output parameters are not correct, that is, only return the value that I input but not the value after executed in the procedure....
    The code that I used with JDBC:ODBC bridge is as follow:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    String url = "jdbc:odbc:;DRIVER=SQL Server;Persist Security Info=False;database=db;Server=sql;uid=sa;pwd=pwd";
              Connection con;
              ResultSet rs = null;
    CallableStatement callS = null;
              try {
                   Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
              } catch(java.lang.ClassNotFoundException e) {
                   System.err.print("ClassNotFoundException: ");
                   System.err.println(e.getMessage());
              try {
                   con=DriverManager.getConnection(url);
    callS = con.prepareCall("{ call dbo.CpJavaTest (?)}");
    callS.registerOutParameter(1, Types.INTEGER);
    callS.execute();
    rs=callS.getResultSet();
    int ret = callS.getInt(1);
    System.out.println("return value : " + ret);
                   while (rs.next()) {
                        String f1 = rs.getString(4);
                        String f2 = rs.getString(5);
                        System.out.println(f1 + " " + f2);
              } catch(SQLException ex) {
                   System.out.println("SQLException: " + ex.getMessage());
    The value of the output parameter is same as what I inputed! Hope any one can teach me how to correct it...
    Thank you very much!

  • Using SSL with client auth from a JNLP-launched app

    We have an application that is launched by JNLP, and which needs to make a mutually authenticated SSL connection to a server. The client cert and trusted certs that it needs to do this are stored in the Sun\Java\Deployment\security directory where JNLP knows to look for them. And Java WebStart itself seems to be able to use these certs just fine. However, our app seems blithely unaware of the location of the keystore/truststore unless we explicitly set the system properties javax.net.ssl.keystore and truststore. But we don't want to do that (it could be different for different users), and we shouldn't have to do that. So the question is, how can we use the same KeyManager/TrustManager that Java WebStart itself is using? Are they somehow available for the JNLP-launched app to use?
    Failing that, is there a way for a JNLP-launched app to query the deployment properties? There are a bunch of properties to direct the behavior of Java WebStart (see [http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html]), such as deployment.user.security.trusted.cacerts. These don't seem to be System properties. Can the app see them, or are the "private" to Java WebStart itself?

  • When sending email I get this error message: An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Cannot establish SSL with SMTP server

    This issue has popped up before then went away after I switched to SSL setings as suggested by my website host. Or...was it pure coincidence? Same problem today and I haven't made any changes since the above mentioned and have had many successful emails sent. Can't reply or send emails and the draft gets removed from the draft folder even if I saved it before hitting send. Thank you!

    Thank you Matt. I'm sure this will be frustrating ...but the more I think about this problem there more info I have to share. The emails I write that do not get sent do end up in my "sent" folder but never reach the recipient. And, most perplexing, the issue/problem is sporadic. It was coming and going before I switched over to the SSL/TLS option in T-bird. And...since the switch it has reappeared and disappeared. I have made zero changes other than the above mentioned. I did get a security update today for T-bird perhaps this will help?
    I read your link, thank you.
    I obviously don't understand how these systems work. I'm baffled how an issue like this can come and go...

  • Use of SSL with Apple Mail 3.4 on FIOS

    I can use SSL with email to and from comcast.net, me.com. and gmail.com, but not to and from verizon.net, using FIOS. I have been using FIOS since August on my Mac PPC G5 and OS 10.5.7. Of the threads I have checked, the consensus seems to be that SSL will not work with Apple Mail. However, when I log in via my browsers, the connection is secured via SSL. Anybody out there know if one can use SSL with Apple Mail via verizon's servers? If so, what are the port settings?

    Sad, but true.

    Comon Verizon, other ISPs have had e-mail over SSL for years. Please, get with the program.
